Had a 2-night stay here, and the food for the evening meal was excellent on both evenings. Fresh, flavoursome and as good as you will get in any "hotel restaurant". Only complaint is that the menu doesn't change often enough if you're staying for a couple of nights. Rabbit saddle starter a highlight.

The Dining Room
35 Dawson Street, City Centre South, Dublin

Arrived at 7pm to find 4 people in the restaurant. After walking all the way through the bar, decided to stay. The value menu @25eur has very limited choice. Ordered stuffed baby squid (delicious) and pork belly/scallops, to discover the latter was off. Confit duck was very salty. Crab creme brulee was much praised, but the risotto was not. Desserts were excellent, and the lemon posset in particular. Despite the good service, the room is too large with such small numbers, and the food is not good enough to tempt me back any time soon

The Bistro at Ella
7 Main Street, Howth, Howth, Dublin

A new early bird for the summer (2 courses for the price of a main) is great value. Menu may not be the most exciting ever, but always reliable, with friendly service.

The Strawberry Tree-Brooklodge
The Brooklodge Hotel, Macreddin Village, Aughrim, Wicklow

Was expecting to be 'wowed', but very disappointed. Dining room (as hotel) very empty, and for Eur65, expect a lot more from the food. Organic wines very pleasant for 30 euros.
