We live local and had been meaning to go here for a long time so on a rainy Sunday afternoon ,McHugh's came to mind . The location could put off a lot of people ,in the middle of a housing estate and opposite a very popular local pub "The Cedars" .But don't let that put you off ,this is a quality place to eat and a really relaxed atmosphere . I will start with a bit of and my only negative .I chose for my dessert the cheese ,it was a little disappointing as it was an eight of a piece of brie with lovely biscuits and walnuts .I just thought there could have been a bit of variety .As a desert it was really good . So to the food and what food it was . My wife had the soup of the day which was Butternut squash and Chilli .I think that a clean plate was the perfect answer to how good it was .I had a taste and it was creamy with a hint of chilli without it being overpowering ,a very good balance . I chose the HOUSE MADE FALAFELS, PICKLED CUCUMBER, MINT YOGHURT DRESSING. they were just so good ,everything on the plate worked so well together .The taste was delicious .Falafel at times can be dry and overly spicy but this was nice and moist . We both chose SHOULDER OF IRISH LAMB, HERB MASH, ROAST CARROTS, MADEIRA JUS .The lamb was so tender with the creamy mash and glazed carrots and the jus ,Heaven on a plate .On such a horrible rainy July afternoon that more resembled a November day, this was really comfort food . As said before I had the Cooleeney cheese and my wife had APPLE TARTE TATIN, BUTTERSCOTCH SAUCE, VANILLA ICE CREAM.She is a butterscotch fan and really liked the taste of it with the apple .A real winner of a dessert . We chose a bottle of Malbec 2013 and this really complemented the lamb . A nice touch was that a bottle of water was brought to the table without having to ask . A big plus was the service and the waitresses ,friendly and knowledgeable .At €21 for 2 courses or €25 for 3 ,for the quality of food being served it is hard to beat .
