My wife and I have been in this restaurant many times and it is definately up there with the best. It does move away from the more gourmet style and the curries are a little heavy, just the way I like them. Balti Chicken is recommended to anyone.. I always go for the lamb chilli masala or vindaloo. Only reason I gave a 4 for service was because the waiter was a little cranky with us on our last visit.

My wife and I visited this restaurant today for the first time. The place was quite busy and we were quickly seated by a friendly member of staff. Lunch isnt exactly the ideal time to visit a restaurant and then pass comment but it does give a fair indication as to what is on offer. Anyway, the restaurant did offer a reasonably varied lunch menu, but I passed on the Panini's, the carvery beef, the curry, the burger and opted for the sirloin steak sandwich. My wife opted for the fish cakes. Both came out of the kitchen pretty quickly and my wifes dish definately looked the more appealing with 2 fine size cakes on the plate along with a side salad, dressing and side portion of fries. The first item I tasted from my steak sandwich was one of the over cooked mushrooms which was stone cold. Very quickly taken back into the kitchen by friendly staff and returned with luke warm over cooked mushrooms (It is frightening as to how many chefs do not know how to cook a mushroom). Anyways, the steak is well sourced and of a very good quality, so I cut in half and swapped for one of my wifes fish cakes which were tasty, but had a very average quality of smoked haddock lurking around but was still well cooked and well flavoured. For the type of restaurant and location I was surprised not to see a seafood dish on the menu and there was no pasta dish offered either. All in all, I would say it is a well run restaurant with good quality suppliers but lacks a lot of imagination in the kitchen... actually, i dont think there is any imagination in the kitchen. Would I go back there,, probably not.

Aroma Chinese Restaurant
5/6 Emmet Place, Cork City, Cork

With so many restaurants closing down, my love for Chinese restaurants had started to dwindle. I encountered this one recently and to put it simply, this is one of the best sweet / sour restaurants I have discovered. My recommendations are the Szechuan, Kung Po or the House Special Shanghai Sauce... absolutely amazing ( from a person who only ever eats Sweet / Sour dishes from other peoples plates ). Oyster Sauce is to die for. Ingredients are top quality... this is a cracking restaurant. One or two items which haven't tickled my fancy but I'm only half way through the menu at this stage. My top recommendation - Beef with Shanghai Sauce - delicious!!!

Mr Dee Chinese Restaurant
Riverstown Glanmire, Glanmire, Cork

I'll keep this really simple... This restaurant serves the best Salt and Pepper Prawns and the best Fillet Steak in Black Pepper Sauce that I have ever tasted, and i've eaten in a lot of chinese restaurants. I have to say, I wouldn't be an expert on their menu, but I would go back there again.

La Lavanda
Main Street, East Village, Douglas, Cork

After reading some of the reviews on this restaurant, I thought I would post some of my own. I have dined here on a number of occasions and it is my honest opinion that this restaurant serves some of the tastiest salads in town and I have had to put a lot of effort into reproducing something similar myself at home, I'd love to know what Balsamic vinegar these guys use... but I can guarantee you that it isnt cheap. The restaurant offers a wide range of courses but I have to agree with the comments regarding the nacho's... in so far as yes, they are rubbish. To sum up I would say that Amicus is a very good and popular reastaurant with some really good dishes, far better than some of it's local competitors but the restaurant needs to address a few poor dishes on its menu (mainly the fun food which seems to be very popular with a lot of restaurants in this area). If you know how to avoid beer dishes, then this place does offer some cracking food and very reasonable prices.

Spice Indian Cuisine
Pelican House, Main Street, Carrigaline, Cork

This is a great restaurant, regardless of your knowledge or experience of indian cusine. Staff are fantastic, restaurant is spotless and the food is top notch. For the curry heads - this is a contemporary indian restaurant which has focused on emphasing the quality of the ingredients used rather than the spice. I've sampled a lot of the menu dishes and the food has been designed to appeal to a wider pallete range. To put it simply, this is a wine restaurant and I'd highly recommend No.23 shiraz with any of the restaurants dishes. Lamb has always been top quality as has everything else. Chutney's are yummy, pilau rice is so good but what I really like about this place is that every single dish is unmistakably theirs. This restaurant does offer some seriously hot dishes but as someone who loves spicy food, it will appeal more to the milder taste buds. To put it simply.. I'd highly recommend it and hat's off to the chef's and staff. Oh.. and their meat samosa's are made with chicken rather than the traditional lamb and are seriouslyyyyyyyy good.

Kudos (Liffey Valley)
Clarion Hotel, Dublin 22, Liffey Valley, Dublin

After reading the two comments posted, I must first comment on the portion size which I found to be average but certainly not small. I'll keep this really simple. Bar / restaurant was very untidy, staff were friendly but messed up the order. Now the food.... Had a mixed starter, Potato Samosa's were fantastic, then there was deep fried chicken wings (yeah, plain old deeep fried chicken wings) with bottled sweet chilli sauce, satay chicken was good, and a couple of scewered prawns and peppers. My wife had Lamb Curry... bit of bottled curry paste in there and the lamb quality really wasn't that good. I had the prawn curry which I must say was well balanced and tasty. Both portions of steamed rice were rubbish. The other people with us both had the chicken fried rice dish which had tinned pineapple in it. My recommendation on this one is simple... If u like to cook asian food at home, this place is an absolute must because it will inspire you and help you realise how you can easily wipe the floor with this place by cooking it yourself. Whoever is responsible for planning the menu for this four star hotel certainely hasn't pushed themselves but as someone who likes to cook asain food at home, I found it to be most inspiring.

Punjabi By Nature Indian Restaurants & Takeaway
15 Ranelagh Village, South Dublin, Ranelagh, Dublin

On a recent stay in Dublin, my wife and I decided to avail of their 50/50 offer with the bottle of wine. Restaurant is very simply decorated but a little bright for my liking. Anyways, the food. As someone who likes and can cook Indian food at home, i'd like to say the following... Chutney's were very average.. compare to a lot of other indian restaurants. We shared a Chiken Tikka for stater.. charcoal flavour mainly but four big chunks of chicken on the plate served with a vinaigrette salad??? ( the salad was all wrong ) I must say, at this stage I was thinking this is gonna be a disaster. My wife had the Lamb Gorkhali, which was a mild creamy curry with cashew nuts and coconut.. not a lot of lamb but lots of really good sauce and the lamb was top notch.. really good dish. I had the lamb vindaloo, again, not a lot of lamb, but a nice spicy curry which was very well prepared and had a lot going on. Pilau rice was really good.. but had to order a third portion. Peshawari Nan was yummy with lots of coconut and really sweet... and the waiter suggested a bottle of Rioja wine which was was again, top class. So, fantastic staff, top notch mains, average starter and terrible chutneys... small portions, but it was only €50 for the lot. If u like your curries, it's worth a visit but if the portions are the same size for the full price menu... honestly... I'd give it a miss.

ECO Douglas Restaurant
1/2 Eastville, Douglas Village, Douglas, Cork

Went with a group for my sisters birthday party. I have been here a few times now and this is a very hard restaurant to describe. Atmosphere is great because it's always busy. Cajun mushrooms are top class, salads are good, curries I would cook myself (but good), hazelback potatoes are heaven, steak is average and they always refuse to take the duck of the bone ( I always ask just to annoy them ). Coffee is rubbish, desserts are good but quantity over quality. Had the Cod with vegetables and all I could taste was rosemary. My wife had the chicken burger which was really good. My opinion is that it is a good restaurant, depending on what u like but it is very over rated. Yes, I would go back again, but after dining there so many times, I know what to avoid.

Panda Mama
14 Parnell Place, Cork City, Cork

Went with my wife and child for lunch. Waiters had people waiting in reception area for about a minute or two which gave an impression of of a very upmarket restaurant. Anyways, starters were greasy and I have a very high tolerence of deep fried food... main courses were just piled on a plate and my main course arrived approx 10 mins after my wifes. Taste wise, main courses were ok.. will I be going back, definately not. Very average chinese restaurant.
