A lovely cosy seafood restaurant, they do great value lunch specials and the tastiest seafood chowder I have ever had, available in a regular or large bowl for larger appetites. Lovely welcoming atmosphere, definitely one to visit when out on the Coast Road.

Great value for money, an ideal spot for a quick healthy tasty lunch with sushi rolls. They also do excellent value combinations of miso soup and rice ball/sushi roll. Opening hours can be awkward howver, and as seating is quite cramped and functional it wouldn't be a spot I'd shoose to linger in for an evening.

Padraicin's Restaurant & Bar
Furbo, Furbo, Galway

This is a regular stop for me en route to Conemara. The views can't be beaten, they have a good value wide-ranging menu and service is warm and friendly. It can be busy at weekends and bank holidays, very popular with families. Staff are accommodating and on my last visit they made up a simple tuna salad sandwich on soda bread to my request as I was on a health kick!

Buddings Cafe
Sea Road, Galway City, Galway

This cafe is about atmosphere and character, an ideal place to catch up for a chat. The food is homely and simple with a lovely range of scones and home baked cakes. It is slightly more expensive for teas and coffees than other chains in Galway but it is a cosy corner to linger in surrounded by the scent of fresh flowers.

Asian Tea House
15 Mary Street, Galway City, Galway

This is a really lovely place to come with friends, great atmosphere, attentive staff and delicious food. We were celebrating a birthday and the staff kindly allowed up to bring our own cake which they decorated with candled and presented with much flourish. Foodwise, I had a vegetarian stirfry dish, enormous portion and very tasty. It is pricy, especially when wine and teas are taken into account but for a special treat it is worth a visit.

The Boat Inn
Main Street, Oughterard, Galway

A lovely spot to stop on a Connemara drive. We go with grandparents and cousins and there is something on the menu for all tastes. The food is simple, hearty and in generous portions. It can be noisy though when matches are being broadcast.

Java's - Galway
Upperr Abbygate Street, Galway City, Galway

This is a regular stop of mine, cheap, cheerful with the type of atmosphere that encourages you to linger reading a book for hours on end nursing a cup of tea. The downside is that service is slow. The upside is their excellent value cheese plate for €5, they also do a happy hour 6-7 daily, with every glass of wine you get a few tapas style nibbles. The fact that it is open till around 2am is a huge bonus, the one place in Galway where you can enjoy a cup of hot chocolate after a night out!

Ristorante Da Roberta
161 Upper Salthill, Salthill, Salthill, Galway

A crowd pleaser for our family of fussy eaters. The menu is also suitable for all budgets eg it is possible to get a very filling pasta dish for under €10, or pricier items include veal, salmon etc. Their smoked salmon salad is delicious and very generously sized, pizzas are immensly popular with an authentic thin base. Vegetarians and meateaters alike are well catered for. Deserts aren't that exciting, they tend to rely on various combinations of icecreams and the tiramisu is the standard type that is widespread in Ireland. I recommend going for an nice choice of starter and maincourse instead. The restaurant is currently in a new location, it has a large dining room and as it is very popular with families it can tend to be noisy, but it deverves its popularity.

Food 4 Thought
5 Lower Abbeygate Street, Galway City, Galway

a cute and cosy lunchtime spot. The emphasis is on hearty healthy vegetarian food, nothing spectacular but good value, tasty and filling. Main courses tend to be lasagna/veg bake with a choice of salads. Lighter appetites could go for homemade soup or a mix of salad portions. They also have a range of muffins and cakes/crumbles. Da Tang Noodle House
2 Middle Street Mews, Galway City, Galway

A lovely restaurant and excellent value for money. The menu has something to appeal to everyone whether you want a hearty ( generously sized) bowl of noodles of a lighter option...at the moment I love the stirfried veg and tofu. You'll be well fed for under a tenner. Its location and atmosphere makes it a lovely place for lunch or early evening meeting with friends
