An excellent spacious restaurant with great food and professional courteous staff. We went here for dinner to celebrate a birthday and I was surprised at how professional and seamless the whole operation is - there aren't many places in Dublin offering this type of service at these accessible prices. Location ideal for making your way in to town afterwards too. I recommend the steak in particular although give the Moet champagne a miss - the cheaper option is much the same.

The Chop House Gastro Pub
2 Shelbourne Road, City Centre South, Dublin

First of all, this isn't a gastro pub. It's an overpriced restaurant. A party of 16 went there before heading upstairs for a 30th party recently (more about that later). It was a Saturday afternoon and we were told immediately there was no chicken on the already severely limited menu. The 'specials' board had a steak that cost 28 euro and a fish at the same price. 28 euro for a bit of fish I kid you not. So really the primary options that existed were lots of fish (it was if they got it in from the supplier on a deal that day) or the steak. I got fish and chips served on one of those superfluous board things. The batter was stodgy and almost wet. Worst fish dish I have had in a restaurant in recent memory...mind you the 28quid steak looked great. I was tempted to go across the road to the chipper and get the smoked cod for a fiver afterwards! Service was satisfactory but it came to about 55 each which seemed rather expensive for what we got especially with everyone still hungry. After a less than satisfactory dinner we went upstairs to the 30th. The bar was being handled by a young lad who appeared to be experiencing his first day behind a bar and was left by management to fend for himself. Flat bottles of red lemonade that had been there all week were used as mixers, Gigantic Guinness heads etc. Embarrassing for everyone. Regardless of the food review above I can't stress this enough - AVOID IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING THIS AS A VENUE (Sorry for the caps). We had considered my fathers 60th to be held there prior to that night but that's gone out the window after the poor bar service and food. Celtic tiger nonsense we will not be returning to.

Indie Spice (Sandymount)
23-24 Sandymount Green, Dublin 4, Sandymount, Dublin

The atmosphere is something quite similar to that of the branch in Swords - a lot of people running around, cramped and compressed 'get em in and out' style business. The staff, like all Chinese and Indian restaurants, were perfectly acceptable though in this care were a little difficult to comprehend. The food for what it is, was massively overpriced though that probably isn't that much of an issue for the local Sandymount clientele! More to the point, the food itself is overcooked, stodgey and we got the feeling had been someone else's returns as the plate had a stain baked in to it. As usual, forget about the wine and the dessert in a restaurant like this.
