My wife and I fancied a nice lunch but didn't have much in the way of spare cash flying around.... I give you 'Mexico to Rome'. This is not the first time that I have eaten in this nice, quiet little restaurant. The menu is fairly extensive but that is really not important. The reason to go is the lunch specials. For (I think) €8.50 you can pick up a lovely, large and totally satisfying main course and either a glass of wine or a big glass of soft drink. The food is well prepared, nicely presented, piping hot and quickly served. There is also a two course lunch special which is tremendous value as well. If you want a quick, hot tasty meal that will not set you back much more than the price of a sandwich in the Spar next door this is truly tough to beat. I've knocked off a few stars from the 'service' score on account of one waiter who was a bit too business-like. I enjoy a bit of friendly banter in a small cafe/restaurant and he was all about getting the plates out and back in again. This may actually be a plus point for some people; I prefer a slightly more human touch. This however is my ONLY gripe. Go there and give it a go.

La Pizzicheria
Main Street Enfield, Enfield, Meath

I've only eaten in this little restaurant once but have ordered take-away on several occasions. The pizzas are of a good high standard and I'm quite partial to the chips and garlic bread which are of good quality and very generous size. It is not a place that I would recommend dining in for a special occasion however the few small tables that are available are convenient for a quick snack. As regards the take-away, it is actually very good quality and the price is not too bad provided you don't have them deliver it. I could do without the fairly hefty charge for that particular luxury. Also they do not accept Laser so have your cash to hand when picking up the grub. But by all means give it a go, I've never been disappointed and I doubt you will be either.

Milano (Baggot Street)
1 - 2 Haddington Road, Dublin 4, City Centre South, Dublin

This restaurant does a few things very well but needs to address a few issues that are dragging its rating lower than it really aught to be. I stopped into Milano late on Saturday evening to avoid the cold and indulge in a late evening meal. The decor is modern and nicely lit. The waiting staff were only average and got worse as the evening progressed. My wife and I ordered some pizzas on the romana base and this is where the evening started to pick up. They were delicious and the romana base is as good as any I could recommend anywhere. The price is about what you would expect from any restaurant on Baggot Street, average but certainly not fabulous. Would I go back? On the strength of the romana base alone I would say yes, but the attitude and attentiveness of the staff does need to be addressed.

Street Side Cafe
Main Street Enfield, Enfield, Meath

I have had the pleasure of dining in this wonderful little cafe on a good number of occasions now and I have found a number of constants. 1. The food is almost constantly very good, well prepared and nicely presented. 2. The atmosphere is just what you would expect from a family cafe and cannot be faulted even if space is a bit tight. 3. The service is always very pleasant but not always accurate or correct at the first time of asking. It seems to depend very much on the individual serving you. Some are superb and some are well... less than superb. Give it a go. It'll never blow your mind, but I doubt you will be disappointed. (and not badly priced either)
