3 of us went for rib eye steak unfortunately it was very fatty, not appetising at all - served with little rocket, one mushroom and little potatoe not good value, lots of little bits of "grizzle" left on plate, we decided not have desert we were so disappointed. We have been for early bird much better value and food.

The Lobster Pot (Wexford)
Ballyfane, Carne, Wexford

On recommendation went for sunday lunch/brunch. Were given seats in dark back area and extortionately priced menu. We decided as we were here and had travelled a long way to stay put that food had to be good if they were charging these HIGH prices. Food was average..... and definitely OVER PRICED. What was also annoying was we were not asked if we wanted lunch from a la carte menu or something from bar/sandwich menu. Also we were not told about specials on "board" it felt like outsiders give them the big menu. It would have been nice to have been offered a choice as the table next to us were by their waitress. Definitely won't be back or would not recommend. Definitely overpriced.

The Linden Tree @ Carton House
Maynooth, Co Kildare, Maynooth, Kildare

On a package deal as it was a special occassion 3 nights with one dinner. What a disappointment - We were asked how we would like our steaks, 3 opted for steak medium to well to be told you can only have it "RARE" "MEDIUM" or "WELL DONE" you cannot have a bit of both ways - we never heard of this before and were stunned! Our other member had opted for Duck. Starters arrived 3 again opted for duck - a lonely overcooked shriveled duck leg was presented on each plate - how sad . Pigeon arrived tough/over cooked like rubber. We were wondering if there was a chef on duty or reheats from the night before. Manager was busy looking after a table of 4 and spent majoirty of his time entertaning their table with wine and plenty of food large bowls of chips and potatoes were on that table. Our mains arrived BLACK steaks no veg just with sauce and large lardons (which got stuck on ones throat) on a plate - awful accompanied by a side dish of 4 chips each - Duck was rubbery reheated and served with a supposed potatoe cake yuck..... we gazed at the table of 4 and their bowls of chips and potatoes and wondered what/who they were to get such treatment..... (did we see one of them in uniform next day???)Tthe memory was so bad one left the table and her steak without finishing our her wine... we did have desert by 3 and one cheese board these were OK but our overall experience was disgust We did complain to Duty Manager on departure who took complaints on board and did not charge us for the wine... a small gesture but one we acknowledge. Beautiful place and grounds but we have a bitter taste in our mouths.

Avenue Cafe & Restaurant
Main Street, Maynooth, Kildare

Four of us went without reservation - we were given a table upstairs - no problem. welcome by staff supberb, one had starter twice cooked pork with prawns beautifully presented and taste supberb Two had fish pie, one had shank of lamb and one had chicken. No fault here lamb beautifully presented fell off the bone and melted in the mouth. Girls said their fish pie was "To Die for" Chicken dish faultless also. The three girls shared a sticky toffee pudding which they throughly enjoyed - definetly a restaurant to recommend and visit again - well done to all concerned

Warm friendly staff - we were a group of 17- all well looked after - service excellent portions were decent, set christmas menu was €45-00 perhaps it should have included a soup course to make it better value - €45 for three courses was we felt slightly on the high side, nevertheless we all enjoyed it and will return. Atmosphere and food are excellent highly recommended

Hong Kong Kitchen

Lovely restaurant with extensive menu - spoilt for choice. Value for money excellent, service is efficient and great care taken by staff. All four of us enjoyed our meal, from mixed platter starter/prawn cocktail/won ton soup to Duck special which was supberb!! to sweet & sour prawns and beef with green peppers. We were all to full for desert - a very good sign. No complaints here highly recommend this restaurant.

Market Lane
5/6 Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork City, Cork

Busy, friendly restaurant, excellent value. Service was wonderful, looked after by our waitress and waiter. No complaints here! We had the confit of duck starter and the prawns both get a 10/10. Duck was served on a bed of rocket was beautiful moist and tickled my taste buds. 6 large prawns were served on a bed of noodles which to my niece were WOW!! I had the quiche special, a little rich for my taste but presentation made up for this. Roast chicken with roasted veg and mash were delightful for E and she was delighted with her choice. I passed on dessert and I was very nicely mellow but herself had a strawberry, meringue glory which in her words was THE BEST EVER!! definitely worth a visit and a return highly recommended. Total for two under €55 - supberb!!!

O'Donovan's Restaurant
58 Main Street, Midleton, Cork

This is my favourite restaurant... Food is wonderful with a extensive starter choice from soup, goats cheese, homemade spring roll, scallops, I could go on.. Mains range from rack of lamb, duck(which is to die for) steak, and 4/5 fish dishes. Wine menu is concise but you will find something to wet your palate here. Staff are excellent, your table is yours for the evening no rushing out for a second sitting... Overall a fantastic restaurant, friendly and service with a smile. 5* ++

Eastern Tandoori (Cork)
1/2 Emmet Place, Cork City, Cork

Took my nephew for his first Indian outing on fri evening around 6pm - the restaurant was quiet.. We were welcomed and given an extensive menu to choose from with ample time. We decided to go for the set menu @ €28 odd each. We got a lovely table over looking the river and night traffic. Complimentary popodum served with various sauce/spices. Our mixed starter was plentiful, all chicken dishes mouth watering and spicey. I wasn't so keen on the lamb pattie but himself loved it. Then we were given our plates with rice, followed by Chicken dish, lamb dish and vegetable curry. We both loved the chicken 10/10.. Lamb 7/10 unfortunately we didn't like the curry..we finished off with kuli (indian icecream) which was delightful and tea. Overall lovely, enjoyable - we would recommend.

We travelled west again as my parents love this restaurant.. we had booked our table in advance upstairs as we love the atmosphere and surrounding stainglass windows. We had soup followed by steak sandwich beautifully cooked served with onions and mushrooms and a peppercorn sauce that was wonderful. N had her usual goat cheese salad as she absoultely loves this. The others had fish of the day served with mouthering fries and salad and R had pasta... which was so big she couldn't finish.. a first for her.. service excellent food excellent no doubt we will be back and would recommend a visit here.

The Lobby Lounge, InterContinental Hotel
InterContinental Hotel, Simmonscourt Road, Ballsbridge , Ballsbridge, Dublin

we went here for supper after our visit to the RDS... four of us altogether.. we ordered the "platter to share" @ €23 a platter... excellent value all round it came with 2 mini burgers, 6 spring rolls, 2 mini ham&cheese sandwiches, 4 tiger prawns, 2 slices of toast and 4 mini chicken kebabs... all wonderful in taste presentation supberb and staff excellent. We enjoy both tea followed by brandy while the other two ladies had wine. I highly recommend to anybody to eat or even enjoy a drink here - Excellent. (a word of warning though we had had cocktails earlier in the day here and the waiter place a bowl of nuts on the table - complementary we thought - not so when our bill arrived the nuts were charged at €7-00) so beware if nuts are served send or check if these are complimentary or not - don't get caught - next time we will know better!!

Man Friday Restaurant
Scilly, Kinsale, Cork

Best early bird menu ever!! First class food and service. We arrived early without a reservation- no problem.... I would however book in future as it filled up quickly and I would hate to be turned away from this wonderful place. We had deep fried brie cheese, followed by fish pie (best ever) and steak washed down with lovely house wine and ice cream that was to die for. Early bird for twenty five euro per head. First class +++++++++ PS the brown bread is WOW!
