Love this place - friendly staff, good coffee and great food! The chicken caesar bagel is a must! Only drawback is the lack of space.

Wallace's Asti
15 Russell Street, Behan Square (just off the North Circular Road at Croke Park), City Centre North, Dublin

I have eaten here several times now and each time have really enjoyed it. The meal deal for starter, main course and a glass of wine for €15.99 is really good value and the food is fab. I particularly like the goats cheese starter! The staff are really friendly and make a real effort to make you feel welcome. The last time we were there after we had paid and were getting ready to leave, they dropped us over complimentary espressos! I will definitely be back!

The Restaurant at the West Wing
Castletown House, Celbridge, Kildare

On beginning our tour of Castletown House, we (a group of 3) noticed the menu and were looking forward to a tasty lunch after our tour of the house. On completing the tour, we headed to the restaurant and while there were some cleared tables they were near the drafty doorway so we sat at another uncleared table out of the draft. We sat and waited as at least four waitresses wandered back and forth numerous times without even catching our eye. What made it worse was that the place didn't seem busy, the waitresses didn't seem to be stressed/overworked and none of them even made an effort to stop for a second to apologise and tell us they would be with us in a minute. After nearly ten minutes, we managed to catch one waitresses eye and asked her if we could please have some menus. It took another five minutes for her to come back and give us some menus and in the meantime the table next to us, who appeared to be similarly neglected passed their one menu over to us having made their choice. No sooner had the waitress arrived back and given us 2 more menus, then another waitress came over (while we were all still looking at the menus) and asked if she could take one of ours for another table. We waited another five/ten minutes for someone to come and clear the table and take our order and eventually gave up and left. The food could be nice for all I know but unfortunately we never got to find out!

The Grafton Lounge
Unit 2, Royal Hibernian Way, Dawson Street, City Centre South, Dublin

Went to the Grafton Lounge for lunch on the Saturday before Christmas. We had tried and left several other places which were jam packed and arrived in the Grafton Lounge, saw a couple of free tables and sat down. After sitting for about ten minutes at an uncleared table and having several staff walking up and down and obviously seeing us, we decided to grab menus from another table. After looking at these for another ten minutes, we went to the bar to ask if someone could take our order. They then sent someone over to clear the table and ask "if we were ready to order"...that got a smart response! I ordered scampi with fries and salad while my friend ordered bbq wings and homefries. Mine was pretty mediocre, the scampi was ok but not the nicest I've ever had, the chips were average and the salad was a pathetic few lettuce leaves on the side of the plate. My fried said her bbq wings tasted like they'd been dipped in water as opposed to bbq sauce and the homefries were thin potato slices soaked with olive oil and covered in cheese, which didn't look appetising or taste good. Also the place was quite cold and several tables were left uncleared around us (it wasn't that busy and there were loads of staff around - they just didn't seem to be doing much). When we finished we sat for a while and tried to wave at passing staff to get the bill but again we had to go to the bar ourselves to pay and no one bothered to ask if everything was ok. Overall, an awful lunch and we will most definitely not be going back.
