Booked this restaurant for our team christmas lunch. We arrived quite late (just after 1.45pm) and ended up being the only party left in the restaurant but it was just fab. We had an eclectic group with diners from India, South Africa and New Zealand as well as us Paddys and nobody ordered the same dish. Starters and Main Courses were excellent and the chocolate cake for dessert is to die for. Venue is just fab - really nicely decorated and a fab smoking area (I am told!!) Service was excellent despite the fact that we did not leave till nearly 5pm - we were never made feel we being rushed out. Will definitely be back.

Greedy Goose
15 Townyard Lane, Malahide, Malahide, Dublin

Mixed feelings on my second visit! The food is undoubtedly really good. However, I did find that there were few light options and I left feeling I had missed something!! I went with a girlfriend who is a regular and we ordered 3 different tapas each and shared them. Started off really well - I had the crab claws (exceptional) and she had the prawn platter (again fab!). However of the rest of the options I am not so sure - the Seabass was definitely great however I was not mad about the kofta kebabs or the fish & chips but possibly that was our fault as we had ordered too many meaty/fishy dishes! Will most definitely be back. I found it to be overall good value for money and there was a great buzz. This is a really small dining area with a lot of tables fitted in yet you did not have the feeling of being on top of each other which is always a winner!!

Ard Bia - Closed
Spanish Arch, Galway, Galway City, Galway

Food divine, layout let it down. Having had an amazing dinner in Ard Bia in its original location above Ti Neachtains I booked for a girlie night out for a friend who was down from Dublin to visit. The restaurant was very quiet for a Friday night despite the restaurant downstairs buzzing but the service was excellent and the food gorgeous. We shared a Mezze plate which was a taste sensation and both ended up having the Chorizo, clam and mussel dish described by the waitress as a soup (which nearly put us off) but more so a stew - totally delicious either way! Only thing that I felt let this restaurant down was the lack of small intimate tables - we had to share which was fine but there didn't seem to be any tables for 2 which may put me off in future. Would definitely go back for the food though and I thought it was good value for what you got!

Merrys Gastro Pub & Restaurant
Main Street Lower, Dungarvan, Waterford

Good but not great. We have eaten in Merrys many times recently due to the easy access and space (with a double buggy its a necessity!). The menu is generally quite good but a couple of things disappoint. The bacon and cabbage is drowned in a very dodgy parsley sauce so much so I recommended to a fellow diner to request it on the side and boy was she grateful!! The potato gratin is also unlike any I have ever had and not in a good way. However, many of the other dishes are great. The chowder is excellent, the chips as per other postings are fab and the burger is divine. The staff are really friendly and helpful and we will undoubtedly be back!!

Trade Winds
16 Casement Square, Cobh, Cobh, Cork

Pleasantly surprised with our find in Cobh last weekend. Trade Winds was recommended by our hotel as they had no tables available and we arrived 20 mins after the booking was made. We had my parents and slightly off 1.5 year old in tow and I cannot say enough about the service we received. The dining room was really cosy, menu had lots of choice but the service was what really stood out. I don't know the name of our host but she was just fabulous. Made a total fuss of my daughter (which cheered her up no end!) and bent over backwards to ensure we had a good meal. My Dad and I both had the steak which was beautifully cooked, my mum the plaice & salmon and hubbie the chicken and none were disappointed. Only problem was we were too full for dessert!!! Will be back for sure...

Bodega! (Waterford)
54 John Street, Waterford, Waterford City, Waterford

Have eaten in this restaurant on many occasions and had mixed results!! Had lunch there today and know now why I keep going back! There was a lovely christmas buzz and reasonably good value with a set menu of 2 courses for €20. I had the spinach and mushroom risotto which although it looked stodgy was divine! My dining partner had the special which was baked salmon and equally tasty! Dessert was unfortunately the only letdown of the meal - I ordered the xmas pudding which was quite dry (and I had been so looking forward to it!!) My dining colleague had the chocolate mousse and it was just absolutely fabulous. Service was great so will be back again!

Les Jolie Brise
The Pier, Baltimore, West cork, Baltimore, Cork

Think we must have been unlucky but had a terrible lunch here - ordered fish and chips and both were awful - the haddock was not properly cooked and the chips were so greasy they were inedible. I counted 10 staff which was a higher number than customers and service was not great. Will defo stick to pizza if I ever go back as it is hugely popular which is why my expectations were high. Ate in their other restaurant which was excellent but this was a real let down. Also had brekkie here as we were staying in the guesthouse and I was dreading it but was much better thank goodness!

Fota Restaurant @ Fota Island Resort
Fota Island Resort, Fota Island, Cobh, Cork

Absolutely fab food in this top class restaurant. We had no expectations whatsoever although were a bit put off by the prices but as new parents we don't often get to eat on our own so decided to treat ourselves!! We shared a fab pork and pigeon starter and ordered the special of the night Chateaubriand medium-rare and it was cooked to perfection. Desserts were fab and finished off by good coffees. Pricey but worth it..
