We decided to select the Huntsman Inn for a joint birthday party and as we had a very eager 6 year old wanting to be in on the celebrations we chose a 7pm slot. I had told the waitress in advance we had a birthday event going on and she said she'd look after us well. The menu selection and presentation was just amazing, everything we saw coming out to tables looked so fabulously designed and tasty! Sarah our waitress was the total professional, making us feel very welcomed and also kept our 6 year old engaged when he spoke to her which was a 5 star treatment as far as he was concerned! Sarah brought us our desserts and a lovely candle, and we weren't charged for the birthday boy's dessert! The food, atmosphere and quality were all simply out of this world, I cannot honestly fault any of it whatsoever. If you haven't dined here already, you are missing an experience in a million!

I eat here quite regularly, simply because it is a handly location for a bit of lunch on the way home. I do however have to agree with another reviewer when they say that lately the standards have become very poor. Their lunchtime menu is bordering on ok price wise, but the food is normally good quality. You can't go wrong with either their vegetable soup or the bacon and cabbage is also delicious. Their fish and chips is nothing really to shout about considering what you pay.. Their sandwich menu is good except I only noticed recently that they don't do just plain sandwiches!! They're either open or toasted which put me off as I wanted one with my soup on my last visit. Their staff are what let the place down, they ignore you for the first twenty minutes , they don't offer you a menu to look over until they get back to you. I recently asked a male waiter if I could get some chips and I got a snappy remark back which really put a sour note to my visit. None of the staff smile, they look so miserable and you wonder is this being filtered from the top down. I once complained about my food and although I received a voucher in the post as a token of apology, they vehemently denied any wrongdoing on their part. I think the only people that rate Lohan's as a top eatery are the owners themselves.

Kirby's Restaurant
Cross Street, Galway City, Galway

My partner, son and I went in on a very recent wet Saturday evening, looking for a nice meal to treat ourselves. I hadn't visited Kirby's in such a long time and always remembered how good it was previously. They made us feel very welcome indeed, and although it was quiet in there due to the time of day it was a lovely atmosphere nevertheless. I opted for something special for my starter, I got a poached egg fried in breadcrumbs on top of black pudding and salad. It was simply beyond delicious and the poached egg despite being fried somehow in breadcrumbs was still beautiful in texture and soft in the middle. The main course I had was chicken in a cream and chorizo risotto - Again, this was a culinary delight as the skin on the chicken was crispy, but the rest was so fluffy and light. We also had dessert and the staff were so extremely amazing and helpful, I could not fault this experience in any way whatsoever. For the quality of the food and the delightful staff, I will definitely be back to Kirby's very soon!

Da Tang Noodle House
2 Middle Street Mews, Galway City, Galway

Having promised myself I would eat here for a long time, I finally got my partner and son into town to visit Da Tang. I had heard so many great things about the place and I am a fan of noodles myself. Firstly my partner and I ordered dumplings. I had steamed pork ones and my partner had the pan fried lamb dumplings. We were definitely not disappointed and they were delicious. We then both had duck noodles for our main course. My son had stir fry pork. We all agreed that our mains were delicious apart from one common thing - The Noodles!!!! Yes, we all thought that the noodles were kinda bad, they were slimy and tasteless. I hope I'm not insulting the owners by saying that but I was very very let down by them. Also they went cold very quickly. But the other elements of the dish were fantastic. The waiter was very friendly and attentive, and could not fault him on that. It's not a great place if you have a buggy either as we found out. We had to lift it over people's heads when we were leaving! When it came to settle our bill, I thought it was very pricy at 70 euro. There are other restaurants close to Da Tang which offer similar food but would be under a tenner for a main course, so perhaps they need to look at their pricing as this would be a strong deterrant for me going back. To summarise, I think I'll sit on the fence on this one...

Tysons Restaurant Duplicate
Rockbarton Hotel, Rockbarton Park, Salthill, Galway

After promising to visit there for a long time, my husband and I went there over christmas. When we arrived we were seated in the bar area as there was a large party in the main restaurant section. We were greeted by a lady who promptly showed us to our seats. The greeting was friendly and very welcoming. When we got the menu I noticed that there was not the full menu on as advertised on this site so I was a tad disappointed. We both had starters which were lovely, then for main course I had steak and my husband had duck. Both were absolutely gorgeous. The duck was so crispy yet tender inside and we were so stuffed we had no room for dessert! All the way throughout the meal we were attended to so very well and we both left very very happy. I would really recommend this place but would love to see a full menu available next time.

Bistro Bianconi (Galway)
Westside Shopping Centre, Galway City, Galway

Oh My God. The food here is to die for. The cannelloni, Lasagne and the garlic bread are way top of my list!! Been there loads of times for lunch and found it absolutely great value. Normally there is only one waitress and she can handle multiple tables with no problem at all so fair play to her. Only last night I was drooling over the thoughts of going down and getting some of their garlic bread!! They would do a roaring trade if they moved to a proper larger restaurant. Well done to them for a fantastic menu and great value.

Padraicin's Restaurant & Bar
Furbo, Furbo, Galway

I used to rave about this place for years!! The loaded potato skins to die for and anytime I had a main course there was never disappointed. Good service and fantastic view. Unfortunately, standards have slipped quite a bit over the past couple of years. My husband and I visited there a few times recently hoping they would redeem themselves but have failed to do so. First visit, I ordered my old faithful potato skins. They were burned and crispy, so much so that I only ate half before I gave up on them. On our last visit I decided to give the skins a miss and ordered the Lasagne. The portions were fantastic but unfortunately the lasagne was stone cold in the middle. There were only 3 other tables occupied when we were there so it's not like they were pushing dinners out hand over fist. I think that we will only go there for a pint on a sunny day and leave the dinners to someone else, until they improve at least.

Busker Brownes
Cross Street, Galway City, Galway

Having not visited Busker's in a while we returned to see if the quality had improved as we genuinely liked eating there in the past but found it had gone downhill somewhat. As we were not starving we decided to have just an open sandwich and my partner had soup. I ordered an open chicken sandwich as I loved these as they are very filling and the portions good. The waiter arrived with my sandwich and it was a closed one. I mentioned to him immediately that it was in fact an open sandwich that I had ordered. He looked at me as if to suggest "well now you have it, you might aswell keep it". But he did go back and get the order corrected. To say it was measly was probably the best way I could describe it. Usually before you would get two chunky slices of homemade brown bread. This was just like thin soda bread and it was just not enough. There was enough chicken and onion, but immediately after eating it I was hungry again. Within half an hour I was eating a bag of chips! I was very disappointed, I appreciate we're in challenging times but scrimping on portions will do nothing for their reputation

Scottys Steakhouse
Cuirt na Coiribe, Headford Road, Galway City, Galway

Wow, Wow, Wow. The owners have the midas touch when it comes to food. Stuff the price, you get so much that you just cant finish it but you always want to go back for more. The most friendly family restaurant I have ever been to and I just cannot rate the place higly enough. One thing, sometimes you hear the staff getting an earbashing every now and again is uncomfortable to listen to as a customer, but I'm sure they expect the best from their staff which shines through their professionalism. Well done, and please dont leave galway again!! we need you too much

Sheridan’s Bar & Restaurant
Clybaun Road, Knocknacarra, Galway

Short and sweet. The bar itself is quite nice but the menu just spoils it for me. For an eatery on the outskirts of town, you would think you were dining in Temple Bar with the extortionate prices. The food is pretentious, tasteless and just not worth what you pay for it. We visit there for a drink every now and then and would just like some decent, good value food. For nearly €14, you get burger and chips. The lasagne at €13 is tiny and looks like something you'd buy from the frozen dept of a supermarket. Soup and sandwiches (old, hard bread) are €9 whereas places in town have got sense and are charging €5 for fresh soup and home-made fresh chunky sandwiches. They would seriously need to revise their food quality and prices if they want our business again.

The Spanish Arch
Quay Street, Galway City, Galway

As my husband and I eat out regularly in town, we have become very familiar with establishments that are all too quick to rip off their customers. I am pleased to say that the Spanish Arch Hotel is definitely not one of them. We had passed the hotel on many occasions and decided recently to try out their menu as it looked very reasonably priced - a little too good we thought. My husband had the club sandwich at 4.95 and I had the beed noodles at 8.95. We were bot extremely pleased with what we got, the food was absolutely delicious! We have returned many times since and we are absolutely hooked on their club sandwiches as they are really filling and huge for a fiver. We would recommend it to anyone looking for both hot food or a light snack. They definitely put their close competitors to shame.

Basilico Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria
Oranmore, Main Street, Coach House Hotel, Oranmore, Galway

We have visited Basilico on 3 occasions now but as we have a newborn baby tend to go there for lunch. During this time the restaurant is normally quiet but still gets some good customer flow. The same member of staff has served us on all 3 occasions and we have found him and his staff to be extremely helpful, especially with the baby - ensuring we have a good comfortable table. The food is of the best quality I have tasted and extremely reasonable. We looked at the prices of the menu for their evening trade and the main courses only increase in price by about a euro or two. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys value, quality and good service. Keep it up!!
