I ate here recently with my boyfriend. It was a Saturday night but the place was fairly quite although that didn't detract from the atmosphere too much. The service is quite formal but very good. We didn't order starters but the mini loaf of bread and slice of Giunness brown bread were perfect! We both had a steak. (There were two kinds on the menu but we fancied one steak with the side dishes of another and that was no problem for the kitchen!) The steaks were beautiful, as were the chips, pepper sauce and veg. Desert was just as nice, as was the wine! Will definately be back

The Market Bar
Fade Street, City Centre South, Dublin

Ate here recently with a few friends from work. The early bird is great value. We each ordered from it and there was an abundance of food! The patatas and chicken salard are my favourites. Service is ok. They could do with playing a bit of background music, the place is so huge that the atmosphere can get a bit lost. All in all a good evening.

The Purty Kitchen (Dun Laoghaire)
3-5 Old Dun Laoghaire Road, Co. Dublin, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

A group of 8 of us ate here on Sunday. Easily the worst service I have ever encountered. We'll never go back. This place is shown to be wheelchair accessible which it is far from. There is 2 steps down into the restaurant and then 4 steps up to the bathrooms - ie not wheelchair accessible!!!!!!!!! The food was quite good (not great) but the service was so shocking that the food became irrelevant. The first waitress who took our orders was pleasant but didn't see her much after that. The girl who took over from her then was appalling and rude. The staff stood around the till chatting, on several occasions I could hear the chefs calling for service but they still didn't budge. My chicken wings were so long under the heat lamp that the cucumber on the side was roasting hot ... a mouthful of hot cucumber is not nice. We asked for chips with the crispy hake (that wasn't the slightest bit crispy) We were told that our hake would probably go cold by the time the chips arrived! We ordered a whiskey and ginger ale. The whiskey came very quickly but no ginger ale. We could see the waitress standing at the bar chatting. I went up to ask her for the mixer and I got a one word grunt as an answer. I sat back down only to have to go to the barman another 5 minutes later to get it myself. Not once were we asked if we needed anything or how our meal was. I know it's only Sunday lunch but the place isn't cheap so I expected some kind of decent service. We said we weren't happy with the service and would like the 12.5% service charge removed from the bill. This was done in silence and not a word of an apology for the bad service. This is little reflection on most of the food, there was high praise for the chowder, chicken wings and crab claws. Never again.

Hugo's
6 Merrion Row, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Came here with a few girls from work for lunch. The lunch menu is great value although I wouldn't be as impressed by the prices on the evening menu. I had the croque monsieur and chips. It was lovely and crispy on the outside and very cheese on the inside! The service is great, they added chicken to the feta salad at no extra charge. The soup and sandwich deal is great too. A medium bowl of soup with an open sandwich and salad. The atmosphere is lovely and the staff are pleasant if a little rushed. All in all a lovely lunch at a reasonable price.

The Counter Dundrum
Pembroke District, (adjacent to the Mill Pond at Town Square), Dundrum, Dublin

I have been here a few times but my most recent visit was the best. I usually get here and order way too much - wings to share, a burger and chips on top but this time I only ordered a burger. I got the chicken with pickles, onion rings and sundried tomatos. It was just gorgeous and just the right amount for dinner. I was a little disappointed to be charged for an espresso AND a cappuccino when I asked for the coffee to be made strong. I thought it was a little much but other than that a pleasant experience.

Frango's World Cuisine
Level 3, Dundrum Town Centre, Sandyford Road, South Dublin, Dundrum, Dublin

I can only comment on the breakfast as I've never eaten anything from their lunch menu. Myself and my mum come here regularly for breakfast at the weekend. It's very well priced at €5.50 for a medium breakfast with toast and coffee/tea. It is always very tasty and I find the service great. They are very accomodating swapping bacon for gorgeous grilled portabella mushrooms every time, Yum!

The Restaurant @ Marks and Spencer
Marks and Spencer, Grafton Street, City Centre South, Dublin

Came for a work lunch with a few girls. Got there just before 1pm and there was a queue forming already with most tables full! The place is bright and airy and the outdoor seating looked lovely. We had the "buy one main meal get on free" and the menu was nice. I had the salmon noodle salad which was lovely. The nachos are amazing with lots of cheese and 2 sauces/dips on the side (I think they were only €5). Service was ok but the food made up for that. The chicken kiev and lasagna went down well with the others. Will come back but make sure to get in well before the lunch time rush!!!

Gotham Cafe
8 South Anne Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

A large group of us came here after work for dinner. 11 in total. We arrived about 10 minutes early, our table was ready and we were seating no problem. The menu is plentiful and varied. They do have an early bird special but we all ordered from the main menu in the end. We shared some garlic bread which was warm and delicious. For main there was a mixed bag ordered. Pizza (Upper East Side was gorgeous) Vietnamese Beef (tasty) Coconut curry of some sort I was told was very good, sea food salad which was huge and looked amazing! Green Thai Veg curry was a little bland but with some black pepper just about cut it! All in all everyone was happy with their mains. We had 4 bottles of wine between us which went down very well at a reasonable price. Deserts came in the form of chocolate cake, sticky toffee pudding and sorbet. All of which were heavenly! All in all we had a great time and although we had to give the table back at a certain time we didn't feel rushed - the kitchen handled our orders very well. Would definitely go back again.

Eddie Rockets (Dundrum)
Dundrum Town Centre, Unit K (cinema block), Level 2M, South Dublin, Dundrum, Dublin

Myself and the whole family came here on last wednesday. There was 8 of us in total. The seating here is awful for big parties. We ended up siting at two seperate tables that were laid out in a right angle triangle - this meant that people at either ends were left out the conversation as they were just too far away! On a brighter note the new menu is brilliant! There were numerous orders of the various Red Baskets and the Sliders and Fries. Someone did order the chicken goujons which at €8 was ridiculous for the amount you got on the plate. Over all it was great value and tasted good too!

O'Sheas Clonskeagh House
Clonskeagh, Clonskeagh, Dublin

We usually don't eat at O'Sheas but decided to try it. It's your typical pub grub menu and it was lovely. The burger was tasty and the cocktail sausages and chips were delicious! Can't go wrong!

Hobarts
Ranelagh Village, Ranelagh, Dublin

This is a regular haunt for me, my friends and family. The fry is to die for and perfect for a hang over. If I'm not suffering I'll have the french toast with maple syrup and bacon which is just gorgeous. It's also great for lunch, their bagels are yum. Service is alwasy great, value is spot on. I've been going for years and will continue for years to come.

Maia Restaurant
47 Shelbourne Road, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin

Came for brunch .... well for the chicken wings really but they were all out! Had the full Irish which comes with top quality ingredients down to the Roly's tomato bread. We also have the Nova Eggs Maia which were just gorgeous! Service is great but it can be a little on the dear side.

TriBeCa
65 Ranelagh Village, Dublin 6, Ranelagh, Dublin

came for brunch with my other half 3 weeks ago. It was about 3pm on a Sunday afternoon and the place was packed! He had the chicken wings and I have to eggs McSwiggan (smoked salmon, poached egg, hollandaise sauce on an english muffin with baby potato chips) and they wer both Heaven! Service was great too. Retuned with 4 others in tow last Sunday (13/6/10) but much earlier ion the day and the place was ampty. 3 of us had the eggs and they were all hard as rocks which was a shame but generally good. Overall a great experience but I would recommemd going later in the afternoon as the atmosphere is much better! And maybe a little on the expensive side ...

Gotham South
4 Kilmacud Road Lower, Stillorgan, Dublin

Myself and 3 others decided to try out Gotham South as I have had nothing but great food and service from Gotham ity! The reception was lovely and we were shown to our table by a very nice hostess but unfortunately the service went downhill from there. We found it to be slow and generally rude. The food as always was gorgeous and quite good value. I hope it's just teething problems with it only opening recently!
