Myself and my mum went to this place as a bit of a last resort after checking TripAdvisor for the top places in the city to eat, it was the only one that was highly rated that wasn\'t full on short notice, probably due to the price, which was slightly higher than its competitors. We were more than pleasantly surprised with what we discovered. We arrived early and were seated beside the cosy bar where my mum ordered a gin and tonic, which she remarked was particularly nice. We were then moved into the main restaurant which had a gorgeous decor of old stone. We went for the set menu and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. The staff had fantastic attention to detail. It is slightly more expensive than some of the other local restaurants but it was a bargain for the service that was delivered

There was a good buzz about the place, as always, and much like almost every other time I've been there, the food was lovely. I've been back time and time again and I suppose that says more than anything, the only time I didn't like my food here was once when I had a burger and it was a bit dry, but that's the risk you take when ordering a burger I suppose. That being said I have found a major contrast in some of the staff. There usually aren't a lot of floor staff in the restaurant however it never seems like it's understaffed, I've never been waiting to be served, but there is a huge difference in the attitude of some of the staff. About half of the staff are really lovely, accommodating and will do everything they can to make your meal more enjoyable, but there are a few of them who are just a bit grumpy and not very pleasant. They will throw your food on the table without any care and just simply will not smile. So it can be a bit of a lottery in that regard. What annoyed me most, and what drove me to write this review, was that the last two times I was there they were playing music via Spotify. I only know that they were playing music via Spotify because the advertisements started playing. It costs €10 a month to pay for premium Spotify, it's not going to break the bank, and it really comes across as cheap and almost disrespectful to the customer that they have to sit there and listen to those annoying Spotify ads because no one is willing to spend less than any customer is spending in the restaurant to get rid of them. I'll be back again, hopefully the ads won't be.

McHugh’s Wine & Dine Restaurant
59 St. Assam's Park, Dublin 5, Raheny, Dublin

My mum had been here the week previously and was raving so much about it that we had to go. We arrived a few minutes before they opened but they let us have a seat anyway. We went for the set menu, sharing chicken wings to start, which were just how I like them, lovely and crispy and full of flavour. Following that I had the fish and chips and my mum had the shoulder of pork (if I recall correctly). The pork was lovely but the fish and chips were only ok. The batter on the fish tasted like batter on fish you\'d hear up in the oven at home and the chunky chips tasted like they were hanging around for a while, they weren\'t very crispy on the outside or fluffy on the inside. We ordered the fig and almond tart for dessert and after waiting for half an hour for it the waitress came over and apologised saying that our order mustn\'t have gone through, that she was very sorry and we wouldn\'t be charged. It came another few minutes later and was quite tasteless really, the ice cream was nice. As we were dining on the set menu anyway it only saved us about €3 by not paying for it, which didn\'t really make up for it in the end. As I said my mum had a fantastic meal the week before so maybe we just caught them on a bad day. The place was full with a great atmosphere though!

I heard great things about this place and maybe that\'s why I was a bit disappointed. It was fine, no different to any other burger place really other than the limited menu. We were sat at a bench where my backrest was another man\'s back and the light was shining straight into my partner\'a face, nothing to cry about but a bit of an annoyance after having to wait so long for a table. It certainly wasn\'t bad but I don\'t think it lived up to the hype.
