What can be said about Kelly's that hasn't already been said a million times? Where else would the waiter be offering second helpings with a smile? Where else would the owner be encouraging us to choose dishes that weren't even on the menu? Delicious lunch, wide choice, cooked to perfection. Five stars aren't sufficient!

We enjoyed our lunch thoroughly. 2 of us had Beef Bourgignon which was well cooked and excellent value at €11. The other diner had the sea bass with spinach which she said was delicious. The atmosphere was as good as it's possible to have with very few other customers around.

The Pembroke @ The Imperial Hotel
South Mall, Cork City, Cork

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. The pasta was truly delicious and hubby enjoyed his traditional fish and chips too. The Bailey's souffle served in a chocolate shell was light and tasty. The restaurant was very busy (for a Thursday evening) and the early-bird value was excellent. Will definitely return.

Park House Restaurant (Galway)
Park House Hotel & Restaurant, Forster Street, Eyre Square, Galway City, Galway

The menu is a real blast from the past, with starters such as egg mayonnaise, shrimp cocktail and pate maison. But the food is good quality and the portions generous. Variety of vegetables and choice of potato styles. Go there if you are hungry! Service was friendly and efficient. The only gripe was that wine was served from those small bottles, which is a particular pet aversion of mine. Otherwise a most enjoyable experience.

Alexis Bar And Grill
17 / 18 Patrick Street, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

The early bird is available up to 7 p.m. on Saturday and what value - 20 euro for three quality courses. No wonder the place was buzzing, and the hard-working, friendly staff come as a bonus.

Oliveto Restaurant & Bar
Oliveto At The Haddington, 9-12 Haddington Terrace, Co. Dublin, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

Very disappointing. "Rosemary potatoes" with the evening's special were two small marbles. Mushroom risotto was devoid of any taste or flavour. Must try harder!

Bistro Martello
1 Martello Terrace, South Co. Dublin, Sandycove, Dublin

The early bird was available all evening and was excellent value, especially as it seemed to contain the majority of dishes on the regular menu. Pan-fried cod on rosti was delicious. Definitely worth a return visit.

Restaurant Marinas
Radisson SAS Hotel, Lough Atalia Road, Lough Atalia, Galway

We ate from the "selection" menu - a choice of three starters, mains and desserts. The food was of excellent quality, beautifully presented and served by charming and attentive staff. The only blip was the poor coffee, served lukewarm and not at all appealing. It seemed to be the same coffee in the lounge later.

Alex Restaurant
Conrad Hotel, Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Very surprised that the cost of Sunday lunch has been increased to 38 euro for the month of December compared to 25 euro for the rest of the year. Definitely not worth the price, especially as other restaurants have realised that there is a recession on and they are making an effort. No wonder only two tables were occupied.
