Happened upon this place while out cycling with a friend and we popped in for brunch not expecting too much from somewhere tucked out of the way. We both really enjoyed our eggs benedict, excellent hollandaise sauce which can often be quite poor in places. Brought my fiance back for dinner and we really enjoyed our evening there, food was great. My chocolate desert was everything a chocolate lover could hope for! I had the pate brioche and it was quite good, and the chicken for main. I hardly ever order chicken but it sounded so good I just had to this time and I was not dissappointed. My partner ordered the asparagus to start which was gorgeous and the lamb kofta for main which I did not taste but he assured me was delicious and filling. We both had a glass of the house red and it was good. Zest represents great value for money, a nice ambiance and staff/service were great. I could not fault them. This restaurant will definitely become a regular for me.

Love Eddies. While its jibed lovingly as "Empty Pockets", when your after some real fast food this is the place to be. The cheeky diner feel still works, and the service is always prompt. The malts are super, nearly a stand alone meal. Eddie's burgers are yummy, filling and full of that delicious mayo that has a special twist to it you don't find anywhere else. The cheese fries, with that amazing melted cheese from a can that never hardens are a little sweet but one of the reasons to visit all the same. The burgers are good value I feel, but other items on the menu are over priced. Am always way to full to attempt desert!

Bistro Martello
1 Martello Terrace, South Co. Dublin, Sandycove, Dublin

Ate here because of the good reviews, nice location at sea front and the advertised early bird special (which seems to run all night every night, there is no al la carte). The atmosphere was a little dead, but it was a weekday night and in these recessionary times, that is acceptable, plus the decor and lighting are inviting. The staff we quite lovely, and efficient at their work. The starters were average, the kidney was not cooked to perfection but acceptable, the chiken liver pate was tasty but the toast was cold and the whole starter lacked any zing. The clear winner in the appetizer stakes was the mushroom, delicious! Perhaps the goats cheese is good too but we missed out on that. Please be aware that NONE of the mains come with vegetables, so these will be extra, also the majority of the mains incur a supplement charge from €3 upwards. Members of the party who ordered the salmon were very dissappointed to be served a plate with literally just the salmon and plain rice. Barely any garnish. So if you are buying a supplemented meal, and would like veg, the price is actually over €30 before drinks for the four course. Stilll good value, but hidden costs! The steak was acceptable but I have had much better, it was unevenly cooked sadly. There is not a full bar, and miller was the only beer available on the night. For desert, lemon tart was very pleasant, meringue was given a big thumbs up and the apple tatin was passable but was accompanied by very good ice cream. Overall this restaurant is pleasant and good value, but the food is just slightly lacking in taste. Fine for a casual meal but not if you are planning something special.

The Stillorgan Orchard
1 The Hill, Stillorgan, Stillorgan, Dublin

Have eaten here on numerous occasions, and vow almost every time not to return because of the poor service. (Laziness and convenience ensure a return however). The look and feel of the place is inviting, with modern and clean yet comfortable decor. The menu is varied, and they do always have a number of different specials on offer. The food is just ok though, its nearly good but not quite there. I have found most of the dishes to be either a little bland or a little too much. Their mash is too oily and their "sizzling" platters have arrived only luke warm. Goats cheese salad is the best thing on this menu. The service is generally what lets the Orchard down, I have encountered servers ranging from bored, to frightened, to downright incompetent, mistakes with orders and bills being the rule rather than the exception, in my experience.

Bits and Pizzas
15 Patrick Street, Dun Laoghaire, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

Bits and Pizzas for me is like slipping into pyjamas and having a couch day. I have been a patron of this restaurant for over 12 years, the food is not gourmet but the value is excellent and pizza's are superb. I generally have the garlic mushrooms and a pasta dish. The mushrooms come served in oil and are a guilty pleasure! The chicken pasta dish is a small bit heavy and slightly bland, but good comfort food when your really hungry. I have tried many deserts here, ranging from fruit crumbles to chocolate cakes and they are always good. My dining partners always enjoy their pizza, and make comments on how good it is, especially the seafood pizza. Full bar and a sufficient wine list also. Lovely atmosphere and have never had bad service on any occasion here.

Dobbins Restaurant
15 Stephen Lane, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

We visited Dobbin's to avail of their early bird offering; we were nicely surprised to see it available on a Saturday. On etnering, we were greeted by a lovely hostess who promptly gave us a small table without reservations. Menus brought very soon after, along with two baskets of delicious warm bread. I chose the ham hock with foie gras to start. This had alot going on, and included some chicken which I felt did not blend with the dish. However, on the whole it was very enjoyable and stimulating to the taste buds. My partner chose the seafood sausage, which was enjoyed thouroughly. (I had a taste and found it to be a little fishy, but then I dislike crab in general so cannot blame the chef!) Our mains were superb. My fellow diner chose the duck, which was proclaimed as the best duck he has eaten. I chose the pork belly, which was extremely tasty, but while it was slow cooked some of the fat had not dissolved completely as it should. This came with a pumpkin puree which worked beautifully. We also received a side dish of veg and one of potatoe, being kindly offered to ask for more if desired. The veg were cooked to perfection in light oil. The potatoes were fried and a little disappointing but did not have a huge impression on the meal in its entirety. Both deserts were fantastic, I had the rasberry/apple and almond financier which I managed to finish because it was so flavoursome he even though I was quite full. My partner's desert was much savoured also, though I cannot recall what he chose. The meal was finshed off with two perfectly acceptable coffees. Although we did not partake, the wine list is excellent. Friendly service, relaxed atmosphere, and excellent quality food at unbeatable value is what we received from Dobbins, and we will definitely be returning for more!

L'Gueuleton
No 1 Fade Street, Off Georges's Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Absolutely the best restaurant in Dublin, in my opinion. The quality of the food is unsurpassed anywhere else I have eaten in this city. L'Gueuleton manages not to be pretentious, which is unusual for somewhere with food this good. For me, L'Gueuleton is practically a spiritual experience. A combo of the duck eggs, pork bellies and chocolate tartlet are some of the best dishes I have had the pleasure to taste. The service is excellent, unobtrusive while being friendly and prompt. This restaurant is the one to choose for a special occasion, especially a romantic one. The atmosphere is intimate and lends itself to deep conversation.
