I had a fantastic meal in Roly's with my wife last night. We used a Menupages deal which made it great value, though had we been paying full price it would have been a bit pricey for us. For starters my wife had the prawn coctail, which was one of the best I've ever tasted, with absolutely delicious Dublin Bay prawns. I had the tian of crab and apple which was also beautiful. The main courses didn't disappoint either. My wife had monkfish which was again perfect. I had steak which was cooked perfectly (I asked for rare and unusually for an Irish restaurant I got rare). My steak was served with a bearnaise sauce which was out of this world. For dessert my wife had the taster dessert, which got the thumbs up, and I had a delicious cheeseboard. My cheeseboard would have been even better had it been served with a little more fig chutney as I thought the amount given was a little sparse. Maybe I should have asked for more as if I did I might have been facilitated. The only criticism I have about Roly's is that they have a service charge. This is one of my pet hates and actually puts me off going to certain restaurants. I think the price of the food on the menu should be the price you pay and gratuities should be at your own discretion. Overall I can't fault the food at Roly's. It is a great place for a special meal and if you can get a Menupages deal it is terrific value.

Anvil Bistro Restaurant
Saggart Village, Dublin 22, Saggart, Dublin

Myself and my wife went to The Anvil Bistro to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were very impressed. For starters my wife had lemon sole tempura and I had the terrine of Clonakilty black and white pudding both of which were delicious. We both had 28 day aged striploin steak for mains and again we were delighted. It was served on a substantial bed of champ and came with peppercorn sauce and beautiful mushrooms. My one small gripe is that my steak was not quite as rare as a rare steak should be, but this appears to be the norm in Irish restaurants. For dessert I had banoffee pie and my wife had apple pie which were very nice. The set dinner menu costs €29.95 for three courses which is good value for the quality of food on offer especially with no supplement for steak. The staff were very friendly and efficient and seemed to genuinely want you to enjoy your time in the restaurant. All in all a very pleasant experience and we will definitely be returning.

The Peacock Restaurant @ Finnstown Country House
Newcastle Road, West Co. Dublin, Lucan, Dublin

We visited Finnstown last night using a Menupages deal and were very impressed. I had been there before many years ago and it is just as nice as I remember it. The house the dining room and the bar are beautiful. The food was excellent. The prawn starter, in particular, was delicious, as was everything else. The service was efficient but I thought it lacked a little in friendliness. We had a drink in the bar both before and after the meal and found it to be a really nice comfortable place to relax in. We had a very enjoyable evening and we definitely will be returning.

Wrights Anglers Rest
Strawberry Beds, West Dublin, Dublin 20, Chapelizod, Dublin

Visited on a Sunday evening with a family party. We really liked the setting and atmosphere with a lovely open fire and some traditional musicians. The service was friendly but a little bit slow. Most of our party opted for the fish and chips for main course. This was generally well received and the chips came in for special praise. I had pan fried cod which I found delicious. I had bread and butter pudding for desert which I love to see on a menu but this one was only average. My biggest gripe was that for a seafood restaurant there wasn't enough choice of seafood on the menu. For mains you could have pan fried cod, fish and chips (I presume cod again) or a fish pie. There was a monkfish dish on the specials but at €28.95 for one course I don't think too many people would be opting for it. This was disappointing as I was looking forward to a nice selection of seafood.

Di Bella Restaurant (Lucan)
Griffeen Centre, West Dublin, Lucan, Dublin

I live very close to Di Bella so I eat here quite a lot and am never disappointed. I went today in the early evening with my wife and two children and was pleased to see that there were a few people in considering it was early and midweek. As always, I found the food and service were very good. I had a main course made up of Cajun chicken served with penne pasta which was delicious. My wife and children were well pleased with their pizzas. The service was attentive and friendly and our meal didn't break the bank. Di Bella add a couple of nice touches for people with children. They provide crayons, and the children's menu doubles as an activity sheet to keep the little angels from getting bored. They also always offer to bring the kid's mains with the adults starters (when the kids aren't having starters) which I think is a great idea. All in all a nice family restaurant that I always enjoy visiting.

Ravellos Restaurant
Clonsilla Village, Dublin 15, Clonsilla, Dublin

This was my first time to eat in Ravellos and I was very impressed. The food was very good, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the prices were very reasonable. I had lamb cutlets for my main course which were delicious and I was offered a choice of sauces to accompany them. Others in our group had chicken dishes and pizzas and they were all well satisfied. The tiramasu dessert was delicious. If I had any issues at all it would be that there were very few dessert choices on offer. Just three which I thought strange when compared to the large number of starters and mains to choose from. All in all a very pleasant experience at a great price, €115 for four adults and two children including a bottle of wine and some soft drinks.
