Family outing, there was supposed to be 6 of us but only 5 could make it, which is just as well as we seated at what was a table for 4. Whilst waiting for starters we were asked did we want to change but we didn't bother as we just made do. Service was excellent and our waitress couldn't do enough for us. The food itself was generally lovely. On the starters my mushrooms were probably the most disappointing, if you are going to serve a salad with them it has to be more than a few dry wilted lettuce leaves with a little bit of tomato - it was tasteless. My surf and turf main was delicious but I'm not a great fan of places where absolutely every side is extra, so I had steak, chips, prawns and chips. With the exception of the fillet steak which came with a few green beans, vegetables were lacking on every dish. When it came to dessert the list of what was available was shorter than the list of what wasn't - so no desserts for 4 out of 5 of as a result. Overall we had an enjoyable meal but with a bit more effort and thought it could have been a lot lot better.

Herbstreet
Hanover Quay, Dublin 2 , Grand Canal Dock, Dublin

3 of us went for brunch on Saturday. We arrived about 12:40 and there was a queue out the door, which obviously is a sign of it's popularity. We were told the wait would be about 40 minutes if we wanted to leave our number. As it was a beautiful day weather wise that was not a problem and we soaked up the atmosphere with a quick walk. After 30 minutes or so they rang to see were we still interested and was our preference to eat inside or out. We chose outside due to the weather. The brunch menu was very comprehensive. We chose the breakfast of champions( organic, paleo, smoked salmon, duck egg, cassava rosti, avocado, lettuce with lime), eggos mexicalos and chicken wings with chips. A side order of toasted sourdough and tea completed the order. All of the food was absolutely delicious, fresh and the quantities were substantial. This was my first visit to Herbstreet but I will be back

Chez Sara Wine Bar
3 Old Street, North Co. Dublin, Malahide, Dublin

3 of visited here at 19:30 and first surprise was how empty the restaurant was. On leaving we were no longer surpised. For starters we had a mains portion of the calamari and starter portion of wings. I'd hate for the claamari to have been my main course, there wasn't many of them and they were of a poor quality just like straight from a packet !!. Fish and chips fo rmains were alright nothing to write home about and the chicken pasta was deemed to be fine. Desserts were another matter entirely the chocolate fondant was cold, the centre was just like a brick so obviously straight form fridge and not heated properly. The tart tatin was just obnoxious - a slimy piece of pastry which again looked completely uncooked and apples that quite frankly had no resemblance to apples in either taste or appearance. There followed a debate about the fact I had a gift voucher and the restaurant apparently had changed hands. The only redeeming feature of the night was the two waitresses were excellent, attentive and friendly but they were so let down by the food. Obviously the change of ownership hasn't done Chez Sara any favours and it really wasn't surprising that as we were leaving there were still only two other people in the restaurant. One to avoid methinks.

Roast
10a Merrion Rd, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin

Just back from an absolutely fabulous meal at Roast. From start to finish it was great` wonderful staff both friendly and efficient. Of course the food is to be the real star and it certainly was - we both started with the pork belly and prawns which was delicious and substantial, lamb shank and steak followed both done to perfection and finished with two very tasty desserts of a fondant and tart tatin. We were there on a voucher and I was a little apprehensive but there was no skimping in any respect because of that. As well as the three courses there was an amuse bouche a pre dessert and tea/coffee. All in all a wonderful night - we will be back

Farm Restaurant (Leeson St)
133 Upper Leeson St, Dublin 4, City Centre South, Dublin

It was my first visit and I had a voucher and all i can say is basically I had a very enjoyable experience, the food was fabulous, the waiting staff extremely friendly and even when they never brought the tea at the end I didn't mind because the overall experience was really enjoyable. I will return

The Oasis Bar & Grill
White Sands Hotel, Portmarnock, Dublin

Was given a voucher for the Oasis bar and have to say was more than pleasantly surprised. The surroundings were pleasant certainly not 5 star but more than adequate. On to the food the starters were both gorgeous, fishcake which was full of fresh fish and deliciously light. I had the chowder which unlike any chowder I had before was a plate of fish with a small sauce to the side - not what I was expecting but absolutely delicious. On to mains where we had steak and a burger. Both were delicious - only downside was that mine was to include onions which were missing whilst the steak was to include onion rings. Whereas other tables got lovely looking rings we got what looked like frozen onion rings you would buy cheap in supermarket (maybe they ran out). However this was the only downside to an otherwise very enjoyable meal. The glasses of wine were substantial and tasty. OK not what would be described as fine dining but a very enjoyable meal. I would return.

La Mere Zou
22 St Stephens Green, Dublin , City Centre South, Dublin

Ended up here for lunch as where we intended to go wasn't open - and probably we were lucky as La Mere Zou turned out to be fantastic. L of us went for the lunch and to be honest the only mistake we made was in going for the 2 course rather than 3 courses - but there will be a next time and we won't make the same mistake. The chowder was fantastic and the main of salmon and risotto was delicious and this from someone who wouldn't normally go for risotto. All in all I would really recommend this restaurant.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK Liffey Valley)
Unit 40B, Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, West Dublin, Liffey Valley, Dublin

Was going to cinema so decided to have a bite to eat first. No queue here so decided to go - was a mistake. Were show the set menu for €15 so decided to go for that. I think in hindsight that was a mistake. Starters were ok though not plentiful. I went for the classic burger and it could have done with a much sharper knife to saw through it, it was dry and nasty. The chicken burger was apparently a bit better. The chips though were a disaster, soggy, lukewarm and looked as if they had been through the fryer a few times. Dessert was a tub of ice cream or a cheesecake so no complaints there it is what it is. the tea/coffee was never offered. At no stage did anyone come to ask was food ok, so I said I would wait until paying the bill and see what happened. Not a word to ask so hence the review. A complete waste of time and money - other tables who had obviously not gone for the set menu seemed to have much nicer looking food, hence the comment at start.

Punjabi By Nature Indian Restaurants & Takeaway
15 Ranelagh Village, South Dublin, Ranelagh, Dublin

First time visit and have to say a wonderful experience. Went on a boards deal so wasn't sure what to expect. I have to say food was delicious, portions were huge (by my experience of other Indian restaurants) and service was attentive and friendly. I certainly would go back. All in all a wonderful evening.

Cactus Jacks Galway
Courthouse Lane, Galway City, Galway

On a miserably wet evening in Galway we decided to avail of the early bird menu at 19.95 for 3 courses plus a drink, there were 4 of us and we were first in. First of all have to say that the booths which we were directed to were obviously designed for supermodels as we found them very small and uncomfortable. starters arrived and were ok, 4 chicken wings com was a bit on the measly side, caesar salad didn't taste as usual was ok and guacamole was good. Mains of enchilladas and fajitas were good, decent sized and tasted good so went down well, I went for the fish bites which comprised of 2 small pieces of battered fish and the batter had a bit of a weird taste. By the amount of bones in the fish at least it was probably fish. Chicken strips were dry and over cooked. Desserts were average. Service was excellent in so far as the waiter/waitresses were attentive, friendly etc. We were hungry so we did eat most of it but would I go back - No.

Cafe Provence
1 Church Road, Malahide, Dublin

Made a late booking for 8:00 of a Saturday evening and have to say glad we did. Staff were extremely courteous, friendly and willing to engage and talk to you. We had 2 bruschetta, a soup and a chicken wings to start and all were a resounding success. For mains we had 3 fish and one fajitas, again no complaints and I like the fact that when fajitas were delivered further tortillas were offered. Dessert was probably the least successful dish but yet there was nothing wrong it it, it's just that most of the options seemed to be a kind of cake/tart and if you weren't interested in that then you would be disappointed. Anyway I had a "class of a sponge" which was very nice. Only disappointing bit was that it wasn't very busy which is a shame. Anyway a great meal, helped by great staff

Masterson's Steakhouse & Wine Bar
17 Main Street, Swords, Dublin

Went here as part of a group. The place was buzzing and there was a great atmosphere. However the food had certainly deteriorated since my previous visits. My main course was a particular disappointment and went back practically untouched. Service was very poor and we had a 45 minute wait between starter and main. The highlight of the evening was when I went to get some jugs of water, which we had asked for many times but never received, and the gentleman at the counter said - " No you are our guest I'll bring them down" A nice gesture but it shouldn't have been necessary and certainly not the highlight. I have to say would take a lot of persuading to visit again

Tarragon Restaurant
24 Strand Street, Skerries, Dublin

Booked a table for Tuesday night, turned up 45 minutes late but no problem. I had the dressed crab to start while my wife had the mushrooms. Both starters were delicious however the dressed crab was just that bit more and therefore out of this world. My wife had the prawns for main course and they were delicious obviously fresh and cooked just right. I had the rib of beef which was cooked as requested and came with bone intact - huge but thoroughly irresistible. For dessert I had the 15 minute apple tart - so called because cooked fresh for yes you've guessed it, herself had the cranachan which was described as containing whiskey cream - wow was it strong. The atmosphere was great, busy for a Tuesday night and our waitress was friendly, efficient and extremely helpful - all in all my first visit but not my last

Courtyard Restaurant
Carnegie Court Hotel, North Street, Swords, Swords, Dublin

Late decision (17:00) to go for early bird so booked table for 7 people at 17:30. Arrived and promptly shown to table. Ordered the special on wine advertised on menupages a bottle for 12.95. Have to say wine was delisious for price. Great choice on menu we had 3 brie, 2 prawn salad, i vol au vont and 1 duck spring roll. All were delicious though 12 year old found brie a bit strong but that was her rather than cheese as we finished it off. Main courses again great choice and we had 4 roast beef, 2 chicken and 1 noodles with chicken. All were delicious mind you the veg accompaniment was a bit strange as it seemed to be in a thai red curry sauce which mixed with the roast beef and gravy was a bit overpowering but worked with the chicken. Good choice of desserts all o which were tasty. At 18.95 represented great valure and we will continue to come here

The Harp Lounge
Carnegie Court Hotel, Swords, Dublin

Visited here for early bird, having heard it was good value. Arrived at 17:30 unortunately football just starting so with tv on was a bit noisier than expected but ater all was a pub so accepted it. Unortunately having ordered at 17:35 our starters (2 of us) did not arrive until 18:15 a long time to wait for garlic bread and mushrooms. Overall food was fine but service dreadful it was 19:15 before we left and we ate as quick as we could as didn'r expect to be there so long.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK Swords)
Pavillion Shopping Centre, Malahide Road, Swords, Dublin

Have to say have been here a few times and each has been more disappointing than the previous one, first time the chips were delicious real "home fries" as they say, now they just appear to be frozen ones - so if I went here again would not bother with them. Main criticism is the service getting someone to take the order correctly was a difficult as they did not appear to understand me. Now whilst my diction may not be perfect it is not so bad that I can't be understood. The burgers are still very nice but that's what I'd go for - forget the chips waste of money
