Just in from a great discovery. A friend recommended this place tonight so off we popped in the car to Sandymount and quelle surprise!!.Delightful staff, great food and best of all €48 for two. Starters of seekh kebab, mains of Lamb Bunha and Chicken Tikka with Pilau rice and one dessert of delicious Strawberry ice-cream, 2 glasses of Merlot with a complimentary glass and a Baileys. Best value in town and take a table by the window and watch the evening stollers of Sandymount doing their thing. Brilliant!

Surma
43 Lower Camden Street, Dublin 2, Camden Street, Dublin

This is the maddest quirkiest restaurant in Dublin with running waiters to boot, yes RUNNING waiters. I like the place for its honesty, no frills, eccentric Bangladeshi waiters with poor English but delicious food at very reasonable prices. Try the special menu for €50 for 2 including a bottle of wine. We had chicken shashlik kebabs and sheekh kebabs to start, delicious followed by Balti chicken and Balti lamb with pilau rice. The nans are €4 extra but worth it as they're delicious. Desserts are hit and miss like the place itself. The running waiter has to seen to be believed though, Atmosphere is non-existent and don't expect good service as they are totally inefficient but it's all good fun. Great value for money.

F.X. BUCKLEY Steakhouse Crow Street
2 Crow Street, Dublin 2, City Centre, Temple Bar, Dublin

And the award for the noisiest restaurant in Dublin goes to FXBs in Crow Street! In vited by two friends for dinner it was with serious trepidation that I approached this place last Wed and within 10 seconds of opening the door and ascending the staircase I knew we were in for a rocky evening. The screaming and shouting was at an all time high, incredible. Our booking was for 9pm and hadn't been noted but we got a table. A group of 16 office types were celebrating their best week of sales for ages and were letting rip. We managed to shout our order to the waiter and before he moved off we asked if there was anything that could be done about the noise. He looked at us bemusedly and said that they would be leaving shortly, which was a blatant lie as they hadn't even started their main courses! With a bill of appx €1k in the offing he had no intention of upsetting such important clients and the look on his face suggested 'who did we think we were?' just put up with it or leave. It's important to stress that this resto is not cheap with steaks ranging from €22 to €32. I have eaten here many times and it has always been loud and noisy but Wed took the proverbial biscuit. The food was excellent though, thankfully. Seafood chowder, devilled kidneys and a Caesar salad were all first class and the three steaks were cooked to order, again very good. Beware of the chunky chips as they came blazing hot and an actual danger to the mouth. Considering that our bill was almost €200 in my opinion the carryon in the resto and the indifference of the staff was totally unacceptable. To make matters worse one of the gang of 16 when leaving came over to offer his apologies for the noise they had made. He said it with a large drunken grin on his face. Enough said. Needless to say I will never go back.

Chez Max (Palace Street)
1 Palace Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

This delightful French restaurant never fails to please. Another great night, we had a starter portion of delicious mussels in white wine and garlic and the Tartare de Saumon which was perfect. For mains, I had the steak frites, cooked medium to order while my guest had the mussels with fries. A creme brulee and a tarte aux fraises were the perfect desserts. We washed it all down with a superb Cotes du Rhone Chateau Labourie which is a steal at €26.50. Gorgeous staff, lovely music and authentic French ambiance make this place a joy to visit.

Harrys Kitchen Restaurant
22, Dawson Street, Dublin

What a pleasant surprise. Paid a visit here on Sun 28/6. Here is friendly polite staff, nice atmosphere and food great value at €50 for 2 incl. bottle of very drinkable house wine. No rush at all, delightful young chap served the table and he even had a sense of humour! No need to elaborate on the food, it was very good, my lamb shank was delicious and the grilled salmon was equally good. A very satisfying meal all round. I'll be back many times.
