The Vee Bistro restaurant
1 Main Street, Tramore, Waterford
Reviewed 18th August 2008 ( visited 16th August 2008 )I went here on a visit to Trá Mhór. The first thing that you notice about the restaurant is the striking exterior, which gives a taste of the modern experience within. The service was excellent, friendly and efficiently dealt with our party of 18 or so. I got the 225g Fillet Steak which was delicious, although it must be said that I got medium rare after asking for rare. During the meal a guitarist started playing in the corner, and he was absolutely excellent - playing modern chilled music from the likes of Jack Johnson, James Blunt and Eagle Eye Cherry etc. It really added to the already great atmosphere. Highly recommended after a day at the Fun Fair! :)
Chi Asian Restaurant
9 Georges Avenue, Blackrock, Dublin, Area Code: South Co. Dublin
Reviewed 21st August 2008 ( visited 20th August 2008 )Wednesday evening we went here on a whim. I was very impressed all round. Service was very friendly, and food was lovely - although I did get the heavy feeling afterwards that is usually a sign that the food has MSG in it. The place was quite empty too, and the atmosphere suffered a little - though my girlfriend tells me it's an entirely different story on the weekend. Definitely recommended.
BamBoo Tapas and Grill
38 - 40 Parliament Street, City Centre South, Co Dublin, City Centre South, Dublin
Went here last Friday as I'm always on the search for good sushi in Dublin. The atmosphere was a little dead, but we were quite early (6.45). While the restaurant doesn't only offer sushi, their offerings are numerous and delicious. I would highly recommend this place for any sushi lover. One recommendation for the restaurant is that I would have preferred if there were bottles of soya sauce on the tables!
Zaytoon (Lower Camden Street)
44-55 Lower Camden Street, Dublin 2, Camden Street, Dublin
The Chicken Sish is nothing short of a taste sensation. Atmosphere can be a little raucous in the early hours of the morning, and a little quiet during the day. But, in all honesty, you don't come here for the atmosphere, it's for the delicious comfort/early morning food. Top tip is to get the smaller size; the full size ones are a little too big!
Alexis Bar And Grill
17 / 18 Patrick Street, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin
I've been to Alexis a good few times in the last while and would definitely count it as one of my favourite restaurants; the set menu is arguably the best value in Dublin. The food is of exceptionally high standard for the price, and the a la carte can satisfy those with more expensive tastes. It's worth noting that portions are quite small on the set menu, so possibly not the best option if you're famished!
The Killarney Plaza Hotel, Killarney, Killarney, Kerry
We had an absolutely excellent meal in the resturant. Fillet steak was cooked perfectly as requested. Prices were tiny considering the quality of what you get. 3 course meal for two (a la carte) was only €75 including 2 fillet steaks for main and drinks. Highly recommended.
The Bistro at Ella
7 Main Street, Howth, Howth, Dublin
My girlfriend and I visited Ella on a sunny summer Saturday afternoon and were delighted by a €19 for 2 courses lunch offer that, considering the quality of the food, was an absolute bargain. I started with a deliciously creamy haddock and muscles chowder and followed it up with the extreamly fresh fish of the day (cod, muscles with a creamy and garlicly prawn sauce). My girlfriend had a cheese/mushroom starter which was tasty, if a little meagre in terms of portion size. The hake she had didn't fail to impress. Service was also excellent and was very friendly and prompt, yet quite unassuming. We both left very happy and keen to return.
Sheehans Cafe Bar
20-22 le Road, Blackrock, Blackrock, Dublin
Good range of pub grub with quite reasonable prices. The food is always delicious and it's an excellent venue for a few pints and dinner on a match day with the lads. Beer garden will be incredible if we ever have a nice summer again! Interior could do with a lick of paint; it's looking a bit tired.
63/65 Main Street, Blackrock, Blackrock, Dublin
Absolutely delicious food in beautiful surroundings. Definitely the best that Blackrock has to offer. Service seemed a little stretched on the night, and I got the feeling they were a man down - but they still managed very well. Prices are very reasonable for the quality you get, and compared to the menu on menupages, which seems a little outdated, the prices have come down quite a bit. For example, my main course was €23. Overall, a definite must!
Siam Thai (Dundrum)
Dundrum Town Centre, South Dublin, Dundrum, Dublin
The first thing you notice about Siam in Dundrum is that it is visually stunning - an absolutely gorgeous restaurant. We went at 7.30pm on a Friday night, and although the place was full and booked out, they managed to accommodate us. The food was delicious (and didn't contain MSG) and the service was absolutely impeccable. All that coupled with very reasonable prices and I can fully understand why it was so full of happy dinners. I will, without a doubt, be returning very soon.
Sandyford Road, Dundrum Town Centre, South Dublin, Dundrum, Dublin
Went to Nando's the other week. I was very impressed. One of my pet hates in a resturant is trying to get the waiter's attention to get your bill - in Nando's you go to the till, order and pay before your meal, then they bring you down the food. I love it. It also means when you're finished you can leave straight away! I got a starter, main, chips and a drink with free refils for under €20. It was delicious too!
The Counter Dundrum
Pembroke District, (adjacent to the Mill Pond at Town Square), Dundrum, Dublin
Went to the Counter the other week on a recommendation from a friend. Overall, I would say that I was impressed enough to return - however, there were certain causes for concern. Music was far too loud and bassy! The food took ages to get to us. We asked for the chips and onion rings as soon as possible, as a kind of starter, but they arrived quite literally seconds before the burgers. The burgers themselves were faultless. Absolutely delicious. Chips were nice enough, though nothing Mr. McCain frozen chips himself couldn't rustle up, and the onion ring things were overly greasy for my taste. It's only been open a month, so I'm going to put it down to teething problems. But, for a delicious burger, the way you want it - it has to be The Counter.
Captain America's Cookhouse And Bar
44 Grafton Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
A group of 10 of us went here last night. Despite us arriving a bit late, we were seated straight away. Food was good... service was very good and delt with our large group very well indeed and, of course, the atmosphere was electric. We arrived at 8... didn't leave till 12.30!!! Highly recommended.
7 Ballsbridge Terrace, Dublin, Ballsbridge, Dublin
No matter how good the food is, your visit to Roly's will most likely be ruined by the extremely unprofessional, rude and arrogant service. From being excellent to being one of the worst - Roly's is on a slippery slope to the bottom.
Eddie Rockets (Blackrock)
Main Street, Blackrock, Blackrock, Dublin
I've always liked Eddie Rockets... it's very good quality american style food. The cheezy chicken is epic, and who can fault the chili chips. The price is always a sticking point; who hasn't heard Eddie's called Empty Pockets - but if you get the 9.95 euro meal deal that's sometimes on, it can be very good value. Service can sometimes be very rude and this is the reason I don't go that often.
Main St. Carrick on Suir, Carrick On Suir, Tipperary
I enjoyed the meal I had here. The food was the type you'd expect in a country hotel; good, honest, tasty fare. The service was good and the atmosphere excellent. However, vegetables are considered a side order and some of my party were quite perturbed by this - especially as this wasn't pointed out by the waitress when ordering. I recommend the Chicken Maryland - a retro classic done perfectly!

Dundrum Town Centre Dundrum, Dundrum, Dublin
My advice is to avoid this place like the plague. The food was lacklustre and drab. It was pricey enough for what it was and the service was beyond belief. Somehow our table managed to get caught in no-mans-land between different waitresses. After sitting without service for ages, we actually got up to get someone - which started a full blown argument between the two waitresses in question. Beyond a joke.
The Real Gourmet Burger - Dun Laoghaire
The Pavilion, South Dublin, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin
Real Burger is a nice place for a quick, very reasonably priced bite to eat. Their selection of burgers is excellent and they're quite tasty. Chips with the rosemary salt are always nice. However, I always find the burgers themselves a bit big and dry; the meat feels like it's been cooked for hours on end and there's so much of it that you can find yourself struggling to swallow it, and drenching it with ketchup to try and moisten it up. Service is good to a point - I've always had trouble paying - I don't know if they're supposed to bring you the bill, or if you're supposed to go to the till - but they seem entirely disinterested in making you pay.

3a The Crescent Monkstown, South Co. Dublin, Monkstown, Dublin
This is a lovely restaurant with friendly staff and steak to die for. I had the fillet with a scallion mash and it was absolutely epic. I'm only giving two stars for value as there's an early bird menu advertised on their website between 6 - 7.15 and it was no where to be seen – that was quite misleading and disappointing. Otherwise highly recommended.
Village Bistro at Tonic Bar, Restaurant and Club
5 Temple Road, Blackrock Village, Blackrock, Dublin
Having been a regular in Tonic (the bar) for many years, I never actually got around to visiting the restaurant part. But, now that I have I'll certainly be going back. The food is of an excellent standard, I had the tuna which was deliciously tasty and beautifully presented. Value is okay-ish... though slightly pricey (look out for the early bird offer). However, the best part is the excellent service. The gentleman (I think the restaurant manager, not sure) is the perfect host - impeccable manners, friendly and always keen to help!
Bits and Pizzas
15 Patrick Street, Dun Laoghaire, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin
I've been going to Bits and Pizzas for years now and it's always been of a very high standard. After my visit last night I was once again very impressed. The pizzas are incredible; certainly the best I've ever had, and sharing the epic Chocolate Sundae is a Bits and Pizzas tradition! Add that to really friendly and plesant staff and a lovely family atmosphere and it's easy to understand why Bits and Pizzas are celebrating their 21st year in business.
