What a fab place - great atmosphere, very authentic and the food to die for. I had a fabulous chicken dish with lots of chillis and it was SPICY! Its not like other chinese type restaurants in Galway - certainly a more sophisticated feel to it. Good special offer during the week - main and glass wine for 15 I think! Take way to be recommended also and no MSG..Thumbs up for sure!

Monroes
Upper Dominick Street, Galway City, Galway

The Pizza Cabin serves the best pizza in Galway. Enjoy it with a pint in the pub and listen to live music, especially tradtional music. Garlic bread is excellent also and staff are very funny..Very popular with students. Close to the pub for that perfect takeaway location during the 'summer'.

McSwiggans
3 Eyre Street, Woodquay, Galway

Hot meals are served in restaurant while a good selection of sandwiches and bistro type food is served downstairs. At the moment they have a hot plate special and coffee for 7 euro - very good! Nice atmosphere at lunchtime and very popular. Free newspapers.Quiches are an excellent choice.

McDonagh's Seafood House
22 Quay Street, Galway, Galway City, Galway

Come for the chips! YUMMY! A huge portion of chips and nice wooden tables to sit at, great atmospherere overlooking quay st. Can also sit outside during the summer. Avoid seafood plate! Also serve chicken, but fish is definitely the best. Its a pity they dont have french bread/sliced bread for the ultimate chip butty!! Service is very quick.

Kelehans
Bushypark, Galway City, Galway

Nice old style pub setting with outdoor area during summer. Lot of locals drink and eat here. The toastie special is very good value but dont expect the staff to smile....Gets a lot of lunchers from ida business park closeby.

Java's - Galway
Upperr Abbygate Street, Galway City, Galway

One of the best coffee houses in Galway especially on a rainy day. Great selection of coffees and also offer tapas free with glass of wine between 5pm and 7pm. French air about the place and atmosphere is top notch.

Home Plate
13 Mary Street, Galway City, Galway

Good size portions and many veggie options in this tiny restaurant which is very popular with students due to value for money. They offer many combos eg soup and sandwich or a drink with main courses. It is good wholesome food. Only downside is sometimes not that clean and you can see in behind the counter en route to TINY toilet beside kitchen....

Golden Ricksham
Mayrs Street, Galway City, Galway

Had lunch in this restaurant - really its more of a takeaway with 3-4 tables, with street view out large window. Good value sit down chinese food.

Food 4 Thought
5 Lower Abbeygate Street, Galway City, Galway

Having been a vegetarian for 9 years, this has been a godsend in Galway. If you want wholesome food at an affordable price, its a good lunch spot. My favourite is vegetarian moussaka/shepherds pie and they usually have a good selection of salads. Unfortunately, pies etc are heated in microwave. Desserts are yummy and good coffee served. Can get very busy so may have to sit at counter as not very many tables.

Restaurant @ Renvyle House Hotel
Renvyle, Connemara, Galway

This is my favourite restaurant anywhere in Ireland, so its strange that its a hotel restaurant. Its an old style hotel in which the dinner menu changes daily with a large emphasis on fish and locally sourced produce. The dinner menu for approx 45 is CLASS and includes 5 courses. During the winter, there are lots of fires lit so the perfect place to relax before dinner. As for the brekkie, yummy and make sure to try the eggs benedict or their homemade potato cakes. Service is 100%. If you are not up to 5 courses, you can select as many courses as you like or opt for fish and chips (excellent) etc in the front bar before you collapse on a couch in the library in front of an open fire. They deserve their many awards. If staying in the hotel, dont charge to room or you'll incur a 15% service charge....

Fat Freddys
The Halls, Quay Street, Galway City, Galway

It you want a yummy pizza and cold beer with a cool atmosphere, this is the place on quay st. With chequered table clothes and fat freddy cartoons on the walls, its very easy on the eye. My favourite pizza is the gourmet vegetarian or you can opt for chef's selection of toppings if feeling adventurous. Chilli oil and parmesan cheese provided. It is extremely good value for money. Make sure to visit the ladies toilet ( only if female of course) for a surprise experience!

Couch Potatas
40 Abbeygate Street Upper, Galway City, Galway

If you like spuds and want a big feed that's light on the pocket, this is the perfect spot. A huge selection of potatoes - 2 baked potatoes, served with massive side salad and topping of your choice - my favourits is sir walter raleigh or nora barnacle! A very popular student hangout. They also offer 1/2 portions for the less hungry client. Only drawback really is the tiny toilet available for customers and sometimes have to share a table if dining alone.

Cookes Restaurant & Wine Bar
28 Upr Abbeygate Street, Galway City, Galway

Went there for meal with 2 girl friends to catch up. All 3 of us were disappointed with the limited menu and were served very bland food indeed. The restaurant looks lovely from the outside but other than that cant think of any positives.

Cava Spanish Restaurant & Tapas Bar
51 Lower Dominick Street, Galway City, Galway

A REAL spanish experience in the nicest part of Galway City. The paella on a mon/tues with glass wine for 15 shouldnt be missed - huge portion and a choice of 3 types. Usually very busy so nice spanish atmosphere, with background spanish music. Service has been exceptional and offered tapas/glass of wine while waiting for table - FREE! This a very nice touch and so rare in Irish restaurants. The tapas menu is HUGE and a fine selection of wine for all budgets.

Buddings Cafe
Sea Road, Galway City, Galway

A faboulous little cafe that is away from the normal hustle and bustle in Galway. The menu is somewhat limited but the food is homemade and healty - quiches, pies served with lovely salad. Portions not very big but enough for lunch. As for the desserts, yummy! A place to be experienced as you enjoy lunch while observing the comings and goings and fabulous smells of a little flower shop.

Bistro Bianconi (Galway)
Westside Shopping Centre, Galway City, Galway

Its easy to see why bistro bianconi have won many awards for their pizza - they have unusual combinations and the best quality ingredients used. Its more suited to take aways as is located in a shopping centre so certainly wouldnt recommend for a romantic dinner date, lunch ok! However, usually only 1 waitress so can take time. Coffee is excellent. If passing, look in the window and watch them preparing pizzas! They dont do chips!!!

KC Blakes Brasserie
Quay Street, Galway City, Galway

The early bird is often available until 8.30 and offers exceptional value. Avoid being seated upstairs as downstairs has a much better atmosphere. Found the service exceptional and it is usually very busy, so there's a nice buzz. Love the carrot soup! It certainly looks a lot more expensive than it is, very good value.

Park House Restaurant (Galway)
Park House Hotel & Restaurant, Forster Street, Eyre Square, Galway City, Galway

Have eaten business lunches there on a regular basis - your typical irish type traditional lunch but what makes it different is the service - second to none in the restaurant. Also serve paninis, soup etc - desserts very good value!
