Kens in Athlone is a very large dining space which on the many occasions that i've been there has always felt empty. Its pretty but not a wow decor. The staff are always friendly and very pleasant and there is always enough staff when i've been there. I wouldn't claim that the food is stunning but it's well cooked, well presented food of a very consistantly good standard - i've never had a bad meal from them. I recommend the Shredded Chilli Chicken to be a firm favourite with anyone who has tried it. My only quibble is that the prices are a shade high to dine in. They been running loyalty cards which are great but a small reduction in the prices accross the board would make a huge difference. All in all a firm favourite

I thought this restaurant looked very well and staff were very attentive. Starters were great. The chicken satay was spicy and flavoursome which is unusual for this dish in most Chinese restaurants in Ireland. My boyfriend was very impressed with his seaweed and paper baked ribs. I was not overly impressed with the menu selection - If you don't like seafood your choices are imediately quite limited. All in all the food was good

The Wolftrap Bar & Restaurant
William Street, Tullamore, Offaly

Visited here around half seven on a friday night. close to empty, service was friendly when it came but it was hard to get attention for a second drink. Food was fine but really nothing special. loads of space and a nice set up but food was just ok. I agree with another review here that they are missing the mark. dinner for two at fiftyodd euro should be better than basic i think

Jamie's Restaurant
Main Street, Tullamore, Offaly

Ate here last night. Was in just barely before seven and was allowed order from the set menu for €20 for me. A fair selection and at €20 not bad. €7 surcharge for the steak is a bit steep though. Boyfriend ordered three courses from the al a carte and had the steak. One beer, 2 cokes and two sides put the bill over €70 so definately not cheap eats! That said the atmosphere was nice (felt some dividers between the different areas would make it cosier) The service was cheerful and friendly (family run) and everything was clean and looked well. My chicken salad starter was a simple idea really well done. Chilli Chicken Stir Fry for main was served with halved tortillas which was a bit odd and messy. The Chicken could have done with being served in a bowl as it spread out over the plate but the taste was lovely. My side order of garlic potatoes was lack lustre but the chips we ordered were lovely and crispy which you don't normally get. The boyfriend had prawns to start which he enjoyed and a half a cow for mains! Served with Gaelic sauce he said the steak was lovely and the dog agreed for the leftovers. Meringue finished for both which was fine. Overall lovely food but for special occasions only i think!

Paddy's Bar
Terryglass, Nenagh, Tipperary

I'm a regular visitor here and the review date is a rough guess but i tend to order the same thing so it's pretty general. BF and I visit here regularly as he loves their Tiger Prawns and steaks. They're always willing to pander to his request for a bucketload of extra pepper sauce on this side. Personally i find their menu very limited in terms of choice but i like that they have good veggie options as i'm not a big meal eater. I think with a few more starter options the menu would appeal to more ppl. I tend to not get a starter even if i'm hungry simply because nothing on the menu is tempting enough. Atmosphere is usual nice enough as a traditional pub and staff tend to be attentive. The prices are a little steep though and i think an early bird offer would help

Cellar Bar
Eglington Street, Galway City, Galway

I've eaten here many many times for breakfasts which are normally large portions of ok food. It's usually packed cos it's a reliable place to eat. The food may not be groundbreaking but it's never terrible. Had a really lovely lunch here last saturday - the Cellar club. Lovely sandwich with unusual combinations. Staff are normally very busy and can sometimes be brusk but i would be too given the non stop go go go. If you have a Cuba card you get 10% off. Overall not groundbreaking but a reliable favourite.

Il Colosseo Italian Restaurant
Northgate Street, Athlone, Westmeath

We went to this restaurant on a warm summer evening having been there many moons ago with a friend and had a good meal. We ordered from the set menu which was a main and a glass of wine with either a starter or a dessert. I don't drink so i enquired if i could have a soft drink instead of the wine and the waitress impatiently told me no only wine. I replied that's fine you can bring me the wine - i won't drink it but you can bring it. She either questioned it with management or thought better of it but she brought my coke telling me it would be ok. After this bumpy start I had a delicious dish of Tikka Fettucine. A really tasty spicy twist on a classic. My boyfriend declared his pizza a winner also. As part of the set menu i was brought the dessert menu and found nothing to my taste as most contained alcholol or coffee, neither of which appeal to me. I asked if i could simply have some ice cream and was again told no and again she returned with what i had requested. The restaurant was well staffed and not that busy so i can't explain service with that but i wholeheartedly recommend going to this restaurant and eating well. just hope for a sifferent server!

La Salsa (Galway)
6 Mainguard Street, Galway City, Galway

Lots of visits here. Once you try a few things and figure out what you like you'll always be happy as they are very consistant. Lovely basics like chicken burgers but to really appreciate this place have a go at something different. make sure you bring a drink as some of the dishes are spicier than i would have expected.

Fu Xin
Main St. Borrisokane, Borrisokane, Tipperary

Dined here on the Sunday of a Bank Holiday weekend so a little bit of a wait between courses but that's to be expected. Started with Spicy Chicken Gougons (spelling lol) which are very very salty but that said i found them delicious! Starter portion was absolutely massive so you'd better be hungry. Main course was shredded chilli chicken which i've had in many places before. it's slightly smokey here compared to other places but not a bad main course. (due to the size of the starter most of the main came home with me in a bag and i can tell you it tastes much nicer as a reheat!) My two quibbles would be the egg friend rice which was very course and bland. Also my diet coke was completely flat but i drank it without complaint and when i ordered a second drink i mentioned it and without hesitation was told no problem i'll get you one out of a can. Clearly cheap big bottles of minerals being sold by the glass which is terrible!!! Overall a nice restaurant and a nice meal at a reaonable price but the cheapie coke really bugged me!

La Rivista
22 Parliament Street, Kilkenny City, Kilkenny

Both of us ate from the 3 course set menu. apx €25 each. Starters were lovely especially the creamed mushrooms with garlic toast. My boyfriends pizza toppings for mains were adjusted to his taste with no hassle or extra charge. My chicken caesar was good with very good quality cheese. The deserts were very well presented and my apple and berry crumble came with a small side dish of cream and custard and was absolutely divine. We ate early in the evening and so it was extremely quite so service was attentive and friendly. Couldn't vouch for whether that would be the same at peak times. All in all for a weeknight we ate very well for very little.

Cactus Jacks Galway
Courthouse Lane, Galway City, Galway

Two of us just made it in for the early bird and i had the chicken ceasar starter and she had the soup. Both were lovely and our mains of chicken fahijtas and fish bites were lovely. i thought the portion of fish looked a little measly but the diner eating said it was just right. i've had their fahijtas a few times and always find a plate to go with them would be great and also you get two tortillas and enough to fill three. Deserts on the set menu could do with a light option like meringue but that's personal taste. Set menu before 7 is 19.95 for three courses and wine or a soft drink (not sure if beer is an option) but it's great value in a place where the food is consistant and the service attentive. That's my recommendation for the early bird - i know it can be a different place later on when it gets busier

Kens Oriental Restaurant
1st Floor, Dunkellin Street, Loughrea, Loughrea, Galway

I've eaten in a number of Kens around the country and while the decor is a little plainer than the rest the food makes up for it. Quality food with good service. A tad pricey on some dishes but for the most part worth it. I recommend the Shredded Chilli Chicken. Really good dish

Amigo's Italian Restaurant
Main Street, Loughrea, County Galway, Loughrea, Galway

Food is generally very good - Really nice simple stuff. Have been there a few times and laid back is not the word. The service is sometimes painfully slow. You don't mind waiting for the food because it's worth it but waiting for coffees etc is very irritating. I like their Spag Bol and the steak/Chicken Sandwich is very well received. Check out the lunch menu for good value.
