The Cedar Tree
11a St Andrews Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

2 course lunch 10.95. bargain. tabbouleh and chicken shawarma were both top notch. tabbouleh best I have ever had. atmosphere is very authentic and pleasant. the only down was when I asked for a tomato or chilli type sauce instead of garlic sauce. if I go here again I will stick to the menu because everything on it was fantastic.

Annamars Restaurant
Station Road, Kildare town, , Kildare Town, Kildare

1st time eating here. Décor is slightly dated but atmosphere is nice. food very good, goats cheese and pear and frog leg starters both very nice, game plate and lamb plate mains both good although some of pigeon was slightly over cooked. trio of homemade desserts and ice cream plate were also good. the breads came with a delicious home made roasted almond and basil pesto. which was so nice I bought a jar of it. this restaurant also sells jams, pestos etc. made by the chef which is a nice touch. 1st time here but not the last. great value

Les Gourmandises
17 Cook Street, Cork City, Cork

when a restaurant is full to capacity on a Wednesday night it's always a good sign. food here is very good and great value. charcuterie plate very enjoyable, open mushroom ravioli same, mains of pork belly with thyme jus and beef with celeriac tasted great but beef was very under seasoned. desserts were good but no taste of coconut in coconut and basil crème brulee but tasty nonetheless. staff were friendly and knowledgeable but at times we were left with empty plates for long periods and poured our own wine for the night. overall great place and would definitely return

Pitt Bros Smoked BBQ
Unit 1, Wicklow House, Georges St, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Went here with small group, its order and sit service but food was along soon enough and ribs and 2 sides were tasty and substantial enough that I left happy with free ice cream from the self service ice cream machine. everyone in group left happy and satisfied. I will definitely return here

had bit of lunch here. was very nice. bar was dead when we were here but seemed a very good bar. would like to return here. had smoked chicken salad and some chowder portions were generous

An Port Mór Restaurant
1 Brewery Place, Westport, Westport, Mayo

had dinner here in private dining room upstairs. was very good start to finish. service atmosphere and food. desserts were not on par with everything else. pannacotta very sour and rum baba very dry. but would definitely recommend this place. complimentary limoncello was nice touch at end

Ukiyo
7-9 Exchequer Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

I eat here regularly occasionally for lunch their bento box daily offer is great value. on this occasion was delicious chicken stir fry, smoked salmon sushi rolls and vegetable gyoza. the salad that comes with it is kind of pointless as it never comes dressed and I realized after I left they neglected to give me the rice that comes as part of the box. but its defo kind of place that warrants repeat custom

The Strawberry Tree-Brooklodge
The Brooklodge Hotel, Macreddin Village, Aughrim, Wicklow

went here for dinner and was very much looking forward to it. the food was very nice. we had the wood pigeon & scallops for starters, chicken and hake for mains and 3 unknown flavoured sorbets and rice pudding for dessert. sorbets are listed as unknown because we were not told what they were before or after or informed that there was an array of options between ice cream and sorbets for this course as we heard another waitress outline to a nearby table when we were finished. overall the experience was let down a bit by inconsistent service from the waiting staff. food arrived in good time but waiting staff didn't explain some of the dishes , we poured our own wine for the night when our empty glasses were over looked for a period. on one occasion my companion was away from the table when a course arrived, the waitress picked up the napkin and rather than refold as it as would be the norm she looked around for somewhere to discard it and even appeared to be considering putting it on their seat but settled for placing it still unfolded at the side of the table. I would return for the food which was good value for money but the service could definitely improve.

juju
The Johnstown Inn, Johnstown, Naas, Kildare

stopped off for sunday lunch. decent selection. service efficient. food was decent. had calamari and duck for starter and mains. calamari were ok. half duck obviously came apart in oven and smaller piece was overdone and larger piece was cooked better. came with nice smooth mash potato, roast veg and deleicious 5 spice style glaze. had meringue for dessert which was also ok. this is nice place and i will return. only real complaint was that staff at the bar were constantly make loud noise by banging cutlery around.

Coppinger Row
Coppinger Row, off South William St, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

went here for lunch. very busy place with good atmosphere. menu was reasonably varied. i went with 2 of the daily specials. chorizo, kale and potato soup for starter was simple but tasty. the venison ragu with pasta was nice, venison was plentiful for the portion which for a main was a bit on the small side. but tasty nonetheless. went for tiramisu for dessert which was also very nice. decent food here didnt break the bank but main was bit small. service was efficient. would return

Cornucopia
19/20 Wicklow Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

went for sunday lunch here. had very nice aubergine and mushroom moussaka and 2 okay salads. moussaka was tasty with potatoes through it for texture, almost tagine style. sprout and bulgar wheat salads were a little dry and bit bland. staff were very helpful with choosing meal from counter. tasters were given to assist my decision which was nice. the atmosphere in here is very relaxed and homely. good spot decent value

Crackbird
60 Dame Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

went for quick bite of lunch here. got the chipotle beans and torpedo roll with chicken skewer which i think is just for lunch. well what i got most certainly was not a chicken roll of any sort. it was a lovely crispy roll absolutely stuffed with bland coleslaw. there was a skewer sitting on top with 3 miserable pieces of chicken and some chargrilled vegetables attached to it. very disappointing for a place that sells itself as a chicken specialist. the chiptole beans were very tasty. and i tried the so called sweet potato noodles which did not appear to contain or taste of any sweet potato and were served surprisingly cold. informed server when asked that the amount of chicken was not satisfactory they did apologise but doesnt really help. service was ok. not sure if id go back and id definitely say if you want to actually try thier chicken dont get the torpedo roll. way too dear for what i got. not good value

Skelligs Chocolate Cafe
Opposite Quills, Killarney, Kerry

eventually found this badly sign posted location. had to ring them and helpful staff on phone put me on right track. not sure what i was expecting. had 2 paninis in cafe which were reasonable as paninis go. surprisingly the chilli hot chocolate i got was grainy and only barely warm the little marshmallows didnt even melt. didnt enjoy it or finish it. bought some chocolate from store. pricy enough overall. very nice view from outside area and close to beach. service good

Iskanders Kebabs

Montys of Kathmandu
28 Eustace Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

went here on busy wednesday evening. food service and atmosphere all very good.had the mo mos which were ok basically a marinated curried chicken steamed dumpling but enjoyable. the raw lamb mince was the nicest dish. not for the faint hearted. big lump of blood red mince nicely spiced and seasoned. all curries were lovely as were naan breads. dessert of carrot halwa was very good other halawa cake was bit bland and too dense. staff were engaging and informative and clearly knew the menu. value was good and would definitely return

Relish
5 Bayview, Bettystown, Meath

had lunch here on a lovely sunny day. bettystown is good place to be on a sunny day and this is a nice sea front restaurant. i had a slightly unusual but tasty sweet chilli type ratatouillie in filo basket with goats cheese and pesto which worked. this came with what was described as moroccan cous cous which didnt taste of anything in particular. rest of table had burgers and chunky chips which all went down well. prices were average and service was ok.

Farmgate Restaurant and Country Store
Coolbawn, Midleton, Cork

went here to try the traditional tripe and drisheen dish. queued to have name taken for table and then sent off for 10 minutes but was more than happy to wander around the food market in which the cafe is situated. i ordered the tripe and drisheen but because i hadnt tried it before they very kindly served me a taster portion in case it wasnt for me. exellent idea and nice touch. tripe was ok plainly cooked with white sauce and onions. drisheen was absolutely bland. i dont think this was a reflection on the cafe it just seemed to taste of nothing with a light airy texture. not how i had imagined it. went on to order lemon and thyme chicken with peas, leeks and champ. chicken was well cooked even if it didnt appear to have any flavour of lemon or thyme. mash was gorgeous but with 2 singular pieces of spring onion in it could hardly be classed as champ. companians had chicken salad which was just ok and at 13.50 per salad very overpriced. service and atmosphere were ok they forgot tea. sample was free but salads and chicken main were very overpriced. this place is ok but iv definitley had better for less

profile_review

Cafe Paradiso
16 Lancaster Quay, Cork City, Cork

went here for dinner with 3 others. some were sceptical about the vegetarian concept. but everybody left more than happy. great restaurant. for starter i had the chilli, cardamom and honey aubergine with pomegranite and sesame yoghurt. it was exellent. i didnt know aubergine could taste that good. also tried the mozzarella and ravioli starters both were very good aswell. for main i had the cous cous cake which was okay but was the weakest of the mains that i tried the spiced chickpeas on the plate were very bland. i also tried the butternut squash eggroll, beetroot and goats cheese tart and the aubergine involtini. all were very good. the side of chips were so good we got seconds. large chunky fluffy chips, perfect.other side of sea kale was interesting but was little salty possibly from soy sauce. desserts were also good i had the cardamom custard with lovely poached rhubarb. 3 course menu is 40 euro which is amazing value. very good food for a very reasonable price.service was faultless and atmosphere good. im glad i went here and if in cork again would definitely return

Homemade by Clodagh @ Arnotts
12 Henry Street, City Centre North, Dublin

went here for lunch to canteen on 1st floor. expected good homestyle food. got fairly average fare that was overpriced for what it was. indian curry was bland and if it was homemade they shouldnt have bothered. iv had better from a jar. chicken and brocolli pie was ok but chicken was dry and roasted parsnip side was undercooked. the food here is standard canteen food but twice as expensive as most canteens. wont return. staff were pleasant and efficient but thats just not enough in this case.

profile_review

The Kingfisher Restaurant, Guesthouse & Apartments
166 Parnell Street, City Centre North, Dublin

this is a great comfort food place. homely food served in nice atmosphere. had fish and chips, fish very fresh and chips exactly as they should be. for some reason they no longer serve mushy peas and now give out garden peas?? mushy peas are traditional fare with fish and chips so i personally dont think they should be changing something like that. garden peas and deep fried fish and chips just dont work as well. got few bones in fish but i understand these things can happen. great spot for food would not hesitate to recommend or bring anyone here.

profile_review

Gibson's Deli & Bakery
17 Wicklow St, City Centre South, Dublin

went here for breakfast/lunch. lovely little cafe decor and atmosphere are top notch. food and service less so. ordered cinnamon french toast and blt with tea. french toast came first and blt came about 5 minutes later. why they could not have been brought at the same time is beyond me. meant one of us were nearly finished while other one had to watch and wait until the blt arrived. not really satisfactory. french toast itself was nice but cinnamon was absent except for pinch over whipped cream on side. blt was just ok. little bit overpriced and service issue let it down

profile_review

The Harvest Room Restaurant
Dunbrody Country House Hotel , Arthurstown, New Ross, Arthurstown, Wexford

went here for dinner. dining room is large and well laid out. clever spacing made it look fairly busy on the night. staff are all very helpful and efficient, particularly the hostess. on the food front started off with lovely mushroom mousse as an amuse bouche. then ordered Asian style duck consommé with duck ravioli and scallops for starters both tasty. consommé in particular had subtle aniseed flavour. for main courses had confit pork belly and duck with 4 spice sauce. both very well cooked. pork came with delicious mustard fruits puree and small deep fried morsels which were nice enough but unfortunately one of them contained a knuckle size bone which i bit down on. bit disappointing. waitress apologized and said she would inform the chef about that and the fact that the parsnips in the side order of vegetables were burnt. Didn’t hear anymore about it. other side of potato gratin was well made. desserts of orange and rhubarb jelly and sticky toffee pudding were nice enough. 3 courses for 65 euro was good value as was house wine for 18 euro. we were both full and contented. but cocktails were very over priced at 15 euro each which meant we didn’t get any even though they would have been nice finish to meal.

Dunbrody House Arthurstown
Arthurstown, New Ross, Wexford

had lunch here in seafood bar. i ordered main course of charcuterie plate which consisted of 4 different types of cured and air dryed meats, little brown and white bread crudites and a nice homemade chutney. everything on the dish was lovely but it was missing a pickle of some sort. ie. caper berries or similar. i also expect some kind of pate/terrine with anything described as charcuterie. but either way it was lovely and i enjoyed it. companian had carmelized onion and goats cheese tart which was lovely aswell. fresh goats cheese placed on top, not the usual melted down standard fare. not a cheap place but on balance worth it

profile_review

Pichet
14/15 Trinity Street, Dublin , City Centre South, Dublin

went for dinner here after previously having very enjoyable lunch. again food here is of good standard service was very good and atmosphere was ok. although more than one item between my 3 courses was bordering on being oversalted.pork belly was standout dish with little pithivier also being of very good standard. seems to be a very consistent restaurant but second visit now where over salting has been slight issue.

profile_review

The Waterfront
Rosses Point, Sligo Town, Sligo

went here on a very quite wet windy wednesday night. service was efficient. food was varying some very nice some just ok. one of fish courses had no less than 9 bones in it and thats before it was 3/4's way gone through. for apparent seafood restaurant that was very poor. desserts were homemade and very nice. probably better place to visit during busy season. prices were little high for what was served

profile_review

The Cat & Cage - Closed

Juniors
2 Bath Avenue, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin

went here for takeaway lunch. place is so cramped and busy. cramped to the point of it being uncomfortable. wasnt sure what they were serving, menu on wall wasnt laid out very well. staff are efficient. got chicken sandwich on ciabatta bread which i think was chicken tikka. was ok, chicken was juicy but marinade was little salty. pasta salad was beetroot, fennel seed, basil and goats cheese and was tasty pasta cooked to al dente. food here was ok i might try it for a seated dinner sometime but wouldnt bother going into that stuffy atmosphere for take away sandwich again

profile_review

Elephant & Castle

Bon Appetit
9 James Terrace, Malahide, Dublin, Malahide, Dublin

i like this restaurant normal service and food was impeccable when i went there. was also there for tribute to el bulli night and it took way too long and was underwhelming to say the least. went back for the noma tribute night and it was much better. best course was yoghurt parfait with mangetout, celery, peas and mint oil. a brilliantly simple dish. worst dish was apparently an apple course which was in fact apple sauce with a tastless weak hazlenut foam. pointless... but overall food was enjoyable, service ok and atmosphere decent

profile_review

L'Ecrivain Restaurant
109a Lower Baggot Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

went here for dinner tue night with group of four for tasting menu. started with lovely cocktail which was a well made fresh bloody mary. food was of a very high standard throughout with the standout dish being the duck liver/foie gras. the dessert of apple clafoutis with calvados ice cream was bit of let down was just average and would have expected a better finish to meal.we then ordered a cheese board which to be frank was very miserable the cheeses themselves were ok and came with a tasty chutney. but the portions of cheese were not appropriate for 4 people and then to be charged 20 euro for it was bit much. the service was flawless througout and had good atmosphere. total bill was 629 euro which included 4 botles of wine and 4 cocktails. i do take issue with places charging 'optional' 12.5 per cent service charge which meant a 75 euro tip which is alot no matter how good service was.

profile_review

Urban Picnic - Market Arcade
South Great Georges Street, City Centre South, Dublin

found this place while out and about. its small cafe in georges arcade with long wooden bench communal style seating. menu is straight forward but varied, i had slight bit of problem with starter but it was so well handled by an observant and obviously caring chef im going to disregard it for this review and focus on the main which was confit duck leg with potato rosti steamed spinach and carrot and star anise jus. was all very good duck crispy skinned and falling apart, rosti tasty and well made and star anise jus went really well. water kept topped up and for 10.50 was definitely worth it and can see myself going here again for good value good food.

The Long Stone
Townsend Street, City Centre South, Dublin

went for food here with group we sat out in garden area because there wasnt enough room inside. we ordered inside with barman and had no sooner sat down when a different member of staff came out and demanded immediate payment. we said we would pay aftrewards but he was adamant that we had to pay first 'because we were outside'. very annoying and not satisfactory at all. fish and chips were below average and the payment issue left bad taste in the mouth anyway. wont bother returning for food anyway although bar itself seemed okay and had decent atmosphere

profile_review

Ukiyo
7-9 Exchequer Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

got the bento box here for takeway lunch. was great value at 10 euro and contained rice, noodle salad, panko crumbed chicken, 2 prawn sushi, and miso soup and also had some pickled ginger and little bottle of soy sauce. chicken was lovely and came with little bit of a sauce seemed similar to teriyaki or yakitori. soup was little bland and rice needed something else was just plain and with no substantial sauce was bit dry and little unnecessary. bento box changes daily and will defo try it again.maybe for sit down i could have requested more sauce and that defo would have helped. nice place though decent service and good atmosphere

profile_review

Cafe Azteca
19 - 21 Lord Edward Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

stopped here for carnitas burrito was expecting good things but was bit of a let down. burrito was ok but pork seems to be cooked fresh by being fried and was bit tough. would have expected pork to be slow cooked and tender. there wasnt really any strong flavours or heat and was just a bit lacking. atmosphere is very relaxing, staff were good and menu looks interesting. will return here and try again but would expect bit better.

profile_review

101 Talbot
Talbot Street, Dublin 1, City Centre North, Dublin

had lunch here. nice place staff were welcoming and efficient. bread and water kept topped up. food is simple yet tasty. both of us had different curries for mains. i had the lamb and chickpea moroccan curry which while tasty only had a paltry 4 pieces of lamb in it which was disappointing and left me feeling like i didnt get value for money overall, came with tabbouleh which was slightly lacking in flavour. the butternut squash, aubergine and nut curry was plentiful and delicious. my creme brulee was perfectly cooked with a nice crisp sugar coating. overall enjoyed the lunch with lack of lamb in main course only downer

profile_review

Bia Bar
The Drury Court Hotel, Stephen Street Lower, City Centre South, Dublin

had lunch got salmon fishccakes. bar was quiet but atmosphere was ok. cakes had nice crispy coating but were bland and had no texture inside. it was like the fish had been blitzed up and its not how i like my fish cakes.side salad was decent but overall slightly below average and wont hurry back

profile_review

Louies Bistro
20 Mountjoy Square East, Dublin 1, City Centre North, Dublin

went here for lunch. exellent value lunch menu with good options. warm soda bread was nice. my starter of gourmet sausage with puy lentils was fantastic and there was pomegranite seeds in the lentils which iv never seen before and was very interesting and lifted the dish, main course of haddock and pepperinade was let down by the fish which was not evenly portioned and meant half of it was very overcooked and other half was well cooked. this is not acceptable in a restaurant environment. there were also 4 bones in it which again is elementary stuff and shouldnt happen although the pepperinade was very good. companian had chicken breast with mash and gravy and raved about it. dessert wise i did not enjoy mine at all it was called a blueberry and coconut tart with coulis and was bone dry and not tasty at all i brought this to waitresses attention but got no feedback on it. overall i did like this place it was very busy for lunch the room is cosy with good atmosphere. the food was nice but some dishes needed work. i will return here and hopefully these mistakes will be gone next time.

profile_review

Bewley's Café
Grafton Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

stopped in here for spot of lunch in cafe part. had spiced lamb with taboulleh and rocket. lamb was dry mince nicely spiced and very tasty. the taboulleh had to be searched for and was minimal which was shame because i was looking forward to it and thought it would be a more prominent feature of the dish. companian just had toasted ciabatta and hot chocolate. ciabatta was nice and hot chocolate was decsribed as the best they had ever had. service was little bit off, there was difficulty in waitress taking order due to communication problems and i had to request cutlery for companian to eat side salad with but overall decent spot with good value and would return

profile_review

Harte's Bar & Grill
Market Square, Kildare Town, Kildare Town, Kildare

second time eating here. seems decent place for bar food. bar is kind of set up for diners. had the pork belly with veal jus and bacon and spring onion mash and mixed greens. pork belly was enjoyable but iv had better. the mash came in a hollowed out baked potato and was bit dry and lacking any real flavour, peas and french beans were nice and cooked well. there was also a pesto style sauce with the dish and while it was very nice for what it was it didnt go with the rest of the dish and was bit overpowering. companian had fish and chips and what were described as curried mushy peas but were in fact just peas. the fish was very fresh and impressive to get in a pub setting in kildare. atmosphere was let down a bit by screaming children presnt but i suppose you cant really blame the premises for that. good spot overall would return.

Pablo Picante

iv gotten food from here many times thier burritos are very enjoyable. on todays date was in their new clarendon market place which is bit more spacious than baggot st location. had the slow cooked beef burrito with chipotle salsa. unfortunately i couldnt get any smokiness taste from mine which i had been looking forward to. but it was tasty nonetheless and the beef was melt in the mouth. staff here are friendly and efficient and the burritos are great value for the price. great spot for quick cheap tasty food

Victoria House Asian Cuisine
5/6 Nugent Street, Station Road, Kildare, Kildare Town, Kildare

have eaten here many times and this is defo one of the best chinese/asian restaurants around. service and food is always top notch. menu is maybe little pricey but when food is consistently good still decent value. here on saturday evening had thai chicken and cucumber salad with spicy dressing which was refreshing, spicy and lovely. also tried same salad with mango, also lovely. chicken and mango fried rice for main was nice. also tried chicken curry and crispy duck with mango sauce. all delicious. service was very efficient prawn crackers and water kept topped up and staff appear to be well trained. only complaint was room was very cold to point that i had to keep my coat on but this probably had something to do with the -12 temperatures outside

Chapter 16
The Silken Thomas, The Square, Kildare, Kildare Town, Kildare

had lunch here. pumpkin soup was nice came with nice brown bread. ordered fillet of sea bass with pesto ratatoullie. sea bass fillet was possibly the worst most overcooked fish i have ever even seen. honestly could not get my knife through it. it was like it had been semi dehydrated overnight, pesto ratatoullie was good idea if bit oily. brought it to attention of waitress who handled it very well and immediately acknowledged its flaw took it back and returned with an apology from the chef. companian had lovely basil and mozzarella stuffed chicken breast and lovely buttery champ potato. ended up having decent salmon fillet which had come from carvery next door in attached pub but was practicle option to catch up with companian. dessert of bread and butter pudding was bit heavy but enjoyable. would come here again decent value

Tenors Grill Room (Naas)
Fairgreen Street, Naas, Kildare

went here for sunday lunch room is nice. this restaurant is and the one in donnybrook are always good value because of the prices but this time the food was just ok and the service could have been better. starter of duck confit and orange is great idea and was enjoyable but it came with mandarin segments possibly tinned and would have been alot better with fresh orange segments. cajun burger lacked any real cajun taste and was bit bland. chips were nice and dessert of pudding and custard was fairly standard. service could have been better waitress was bit off lacked seemed to lack basic training knives/forks not replaced when used until we asked, forgot about drinks order, didnt place replacement cutlery in front of us but kind of threw them in bundle on table for us to distribute ourselves. missed few please and thank you's throughout interaction. the concept of this restaurant is good cheep/cheerful decent food but would expect better service in future

Ivans Oyster Bar & Grill
17 - 18 West Pier, Howth, Dublin

was in howth buying fish when decided to eat in beshoffs/ ivans so sat at seafood bar in shop for few minutes with menu in hand but when it became clear that nobody was interested in taking our order we went into restaurant. it was all uphill from there as staff were friendly and efficient. bread and water were brought immediately. i ordered starter portion of fish, tomato and fennel soup 'cioppini' and it was gorgeous, full of fresh fish and shellfish and the aniseed from fennel seeds and bulb really lifted it. dining companian had the seafood array and was also quite happy. some of stuff on menu looked very expensive and even though the starter portion of cioppino was 14 euro it was so good i had no problem with paying it. bread was also very tasty and was generously offered. will return here again as quality of food was impressive

Indian Ocean Dublin
15 Montague Street, City Centre South, Dublin

went here with group we were only people here but because the way we were located still had good atmosphere. food was mixed the starter was lovely which was prawn bhuna. side orders were bit below average. the peshwari naan was very very sweet tasted like it was stuffed with sugar and coconut. ordered chicken ceynan for main which was ok not memorable but nice. dessert was poor as unfortunatly it often is in indian restuarants. ordered pistachio kulfi which was amazingly served in a small plastic container similiar to the plastic hb cone ice cream sold in newsagents. did not taste of much and is a shocking dessert to serve in a decent indian restaurant. 20 euro early bird is very good value. starter and main alone would have been worth this.

Green Nineteen
19 Lower Camden Street, Dublin 2, Camden Street, Dublin

have eaten here good few times always enjoyed it but wasnt up to scratch on this occasion. had the lentil and tofu curry which strangely comes without rice or naan bread or anything. was fairly bland and just wasnt up to much. service was also off water was kept topped up but once dinner was finished it was made fairly clear the table was wanted back asap. staff stood near looking at us and we were asked twice did we want anything else and when we declined the bill and 2 mints were put on table without a word. worth mentioning that it wasnt the case that we were hogging the table we hadnt even been there 35 mins. was just a bit rude and i wont hurry back because of it

Murphy's Ice Cream Shop

this shop is exactly like their shop in dingle which is a good thing because the staff in both shops are so friendly and welcoming. and the idea that you can try as many flavours as you want before you buy without a hint of begrudgery from staff is brilliant.. had the sea salt, kilbeggan whiskey and rum and raisin ice cream all were gorgeous. little pricey for ice cream but what i got was quality. worth a trip if around killarney

Chapter One Restaurant
18/19 Parnell Square, Dublin 1, City Centre North, Dublin

went here for lunch was bit disappointed they weren't serving the ala carte or tasting menu during lunch but had ok options anyway. black pudding boudin was tasty and rabbit main was tasty if a little small. the dessert of brown bread and strawberry mille feuille was very nice. the thin crisp brown bread was particularly good. room is nice, atmosphere was good. service could have been better. would return but have had better

The Station House Bar and Grill
Blennerville, Tralee, Kerry

went out of my way to eat here after hearing good things. was very very disappointed.server lacked any personality and was fairly abrupt in their style of service which got meal off to bad start. simple requests were ignored or declined. food wasn't that great either considering the price. skewer of kerry lamb and chorizo was let down by chewy sometime fatty lamb. special of hake came basted in salty basil rub which took over the fish. also several bones found in both hake dishes which is shoddy for a restaurant naming fish as a specialty. dessert of bread and butter was very over cooked and dryed out and just wasnt worth eating. on plus side the large chunky chips were nice and room is nice. wouldn't bother eating here again

1A Lower Pembroke Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

came here on monday night with group of 12. was actually busy enough. room is nice. value menu that was on was quite reasonable. had the cheese and bacon cake with mustard sauce for starter, which was a bit bland. also tried onion soup which was ok but surprisingly didnt come with traditional cheese crouton garnish. breads were nice particularly the fennel seed bread. had the special of john dory for main which was very much overcooked and dry but came with interesting warm pepper and potato salad. dessert was rhubarb and ginger mouse which tasted mostly of cream. hard to rate service when your in large group but it seemed like they were a staff member short as there was also another large group and some individual tables and there were excessively large gaps between courses.

The Winding Stair Restaurant

had lunch here was very nice. tables very close together but wasnt issue on this occasion. food was very nice and homely. charcuterie plate was various dried meats chutney and caper berries, which was nice but could have done with a some pates or terrines on it. bisque sauce that came with fish was very grainy but was ok. service was top notch and overall would return here as was good experience.

Glenmalure Lodge

had food here on busy sat. place has great homely atmosphere. had the locally sourced venison for starter and main, venison sausage and medallions of venison. both were delicious and came with red onion marmalade which was perfectly made. medallions of venison were perfectly cooked with tasty mash and vegetables and were exellent value at 14.95 which is a lot less than most places charge for food of this quality. its off betaen track but if in area is defo worth visit.

was here on a busy friday night. on arrival was nobody there to greet customers, was few minutes before i caught someones attention. this was not what i expected from a restaurant with this reputation. was bad start but did get better complimentary cocktail from bar while waiting for table. amuse bouche fish cake was lovely. most of what i tasted over course of night was nice but that was all. it was all just lacking a little something. there was no heat in any of the dishes which would have raised it a bit. i had lamb shank main which was ok but shank wasnt falling off bone could have done with another hour or so. best dish was the traditional lamb and rice dish which comes with a pastry lid. this was gorgeous. got unusual dessert of carrots to end. actual carrot dessert and creme fraiche sorbet was lovely but it came with shot glass of a disgusting salt water like carrot juice. we were offered complimentary drink at very end but it was right at end after we had tea and drinks already. seemed too late. didnt find this place that expensive but i just expected more. would return but wont be in any hurry

nice bar with good atmosphere. food here was nice soup, sandwiches and wraps well made but was bit dissapointed that the quality ingredients used were let down by shoestring chips. given homely atmosphere in here would have expected homemade chips. but still worth visit for bite of lunch

The Storehouse Restaurant - Closed
Friary Lane Naas, Naas, Kildare

ate here last year and was delighted and gave it great review. ate here recently and it was totally different. sent back burnt starter and replacement wasnt up to much anyway. it was black pudding and blue cheese tart with very little blue cheese, some carmelized onion and was very dry with bland salad, the dish just doesnt work on any level. 2 of us got pork belly both were burnt on the bottom and instead of the described sage mash came with spring onion mash and nice pickled red cabbage. dessert was ok but coupled with all the other average food and the not great service wasnt good occasion and would be slow to return here now. just wasnt good value for money

Kildare Chic Outlet Shopping Village, Kildare, Kildare Town, Kildare

went here for lunch here. some of stuff here is bit pricey. but i dont mind paying for good food and thats what i got with pasta pesctore which was very nice and a decent portion. they didnt have my 1st or second dessert choice and i was given a dessert presented as one i had ordered. only when i had eaten some of the fresh fruit garnish did i realise i had not been given what i had ordered and brought it to the waitresses attention who immediately took it back. seemed an unlikely error but there ya go. had the hot chocolate which was best iv ever tasted so thick, creamy and chocolately. worth a visit if your in the area atmosphere is very relaxed and staff are attentive.

The Oyster Tavern

went here for dinner. had chowder which was very gloopy/paste like. ordered the organic salmon which was in itself lovely after i removed the chowder/paste like soup which was poured over it over it which was described as a julienne sauce????? sampled some deep fried tiger prawns with sweet chilli which were well cooked and tasty but bit overpriced. 10.95 for 6 prawns and tiny limp salad. seems the actual fish here is nice but soup and sauce were terrible and really brought meal down

have their book and have used their recipes but the shop is very much an experience. a lesson in service to other establishments. from the second you walk in the door you are engaged in a welcoming fashion. sampling of different ice creams is encouraged. i got 3 and tasted more. particularly liked rum and raisin ice cream and mango sorbet. well worth a visit

Thornton's Restaurant

had dinner here saturday night food is good but i was just expecting a bit better for the money 36 euro per starter is big money. plenty of amuse bouches which are always appreciated but partner found hair in the brulee which in fairness was immediately dealt with and apologized for. the manager here is very good. professional and humourous. at end of night kevin thornton himself came out and introduced himself to each table.is on par with other restaurants in town but if here again will be for the better value lunch

Farm Restaurant (Dawson Street)
3 Dawson Street, Dublin 2, Dawson Street, Dublin

went here for lunch wasnt that busy but nice atmosphere. greeted on arrival and service was pleasant and efficient. i ordered from great value set menu, companian ordered off pricey ala carte. starters were asian salad and brie and black pudding puff pastry tart. both were very nice. i had beetroot cakes for main which were like nothing iv had before and were really tasty. dessert was tipperary ice cream in vanilla, black cherry and kiwi flavour. kiwi had wierd texture like freezer burn but other 2 were tasty. well worth visit only downer was the the supposed 'hand cut chips' were obviously frozen chips similiar to well known fast food establishments and werent comparible to the quality ingredients used in all other dishes

Pearl Brasserie
20 Merrion Street Upper, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Everything about the service started off great, greeted on arrival, wait in cocktail lounge was fully acceptable. Initial table service perfect then after the mains I think our waiter must have went home. Poured our own wine most of night waited ages to order dessert and also ordered cheese board to follow dessert as seen the table next to us having it and it looked good. After waiting for 25 mins after dessert realised we probably weren't getting it and so asked for bill and left. Staff here were nice but not once by anyone were we asked was the food or everything alright because had we have been asked I would have said about the cheese board and would have said everything was lovely except a sauce/paste that was pasted all over the duck mains which just took away from the whole dish and was completely over reduced. The squab pigeon done two ways was fantastic with the black truffle mash and foie gras adding to it. There is a problem with this restaurant though their desserts menu. Bannoffee, creme brulee, chocolate cake, selection of sorbets/ice cream etc. are more suited to an fast food type establishment and do not compare with the standard of the food being served for starters and main course. worth a visit but this place could improve. oh and the art work on display from the merrion row entrance is fantastic food made into art. brilliant

ate here recently restaurant decor is very 80's and all food comes with 80's style cress garnish which is very unecessary. however food was nice had salmon main with very nice and unusual yellow pepper sauce. wasnt as fresh as i would have thought it should be being so close to sea. overall food was ok, price 40 euro set menu reasonable. waitress was pleasant but atmosphere took some points away.

Rolys Bistro
7 Ballsbridge Terrace, Dublin, Ballsbridge, Dublin

Been meaning to eat here for ages finally got around to last Saturday night after getting a late booking. Staff very well mannered and courteous. Greeted on arrival. Ordered off the set dinner menu which isn't much different from the a la carte and brilliant value at 42 per person + 10% service charge. Fish cakes were very well made and very tasty duck wontons were good a twist on the aromatic duck every Chinese in the country serves. Salmon with tomato and basil was perfectly cooked and well matched. Duck was very tasty but prob didn't need the heavy 'mustard sauce' it came with. Desserts were good. Overall 145 for 3 courses and 2 bottles of wine brilliant value. Would go again.

Went here for Sunday lunch very nice food everything fresh and tasty. Had chicken and mushroom pie which was with very fresh tasty side salad. The Barge
Charlemont Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

I shouldn't really be reviewing here as I have found it impossible to be actually fed here on 2 occasions recently.. first occasion group of us went prior to attending funeral hoping to get quick bite to eat ordered food including 3 sandwiches, one salad and meat balls, 40 minutes later no sign of any food 4 of us had to leave as had gone too late. One person who had the time was served his salad after 50 mins said it was poor. To be fair to Bar they comped the salad. Decided to try it again on Sunday 2 of us went in for food on lunch break from work sat at fireplace under stairs where for 10-15 minutes we sat with food menu trying to get attention of most inattentive, tunnel visioned staff I have ever encountered. As we sat there trying to get their attention as one by one and again and again they walked by without a glance. I decided life was too short to be sitting there waiting for service and left.. ridiculous...

ely bar & brasserie
CHQ Building, Georges Dock, Dublin 1, City Centre, IFSC, Dublin

Got a late reservation here last sat night. Fantastic room and service. Had the scallops to share for starter, which were exceptional, came with spiced carrot puree and some sort of creamed black pudding which was excellent and even converted my non black pudding eating partner. Monk fish main was good but not great, chicken main was tasty but broad beans were seriously undercooked and desserts were particularly poor. Had to ask for knife and fork for under poached pear belle Helena which tasted of nothing in particular and came without described sticky chocolate brownie and was smothered in indescribable butterscotch sauce. Trio of ice creams and sorbets blueberry, pineapple and pear tasted very similar no distinct flavour to any of them. Including wine bill was 134.00. Don’t think I’ll be returning.

was here saturday night and as always was very impressed. the menu changes all the time and the food is exellent. had delicious kidney and black pudding starter and tasted duck sausage which was also very nice. had the venison for mains which was perfectly cooked and accompanied by a blueberry sauce. the overall service and atmosphere was faultless. this restaurant has good food, staff and service. the menu was seasonal and suppliers listed. the price was very reasonable for the quality received and i will definitely return again.
