Reviewed 27th February 2012 ( visited 23rd February 2012 )We ate there on a Thursday for the early bird menu. The athmosphere was very good and the place was quite busy. The service was excellent, not in your face but very attentive. Our water glasses were topped up all the time. I had a lamb kebab for starter and Guinea Fowl on a bed of black lentils for main, my partner had patato cakes and a meatball curry. I really enjoyed both dishes. For the quality of the food €20 for 2 courses is excellent value. I will go back again and again.

Ambience, Décor space and hygiene were also excellent. The friendliness and service was among the best I have experienced anywhere. Come hungry because portion size is big.

We had mixed feelings about the restaurant. For starters we had char-grilled sardines which were disappointing, it came as 2 large sardines with salad but the sardines were covered in olive oil and the char taste that you get in Portugal was missing. For mains my partner had pasta that was excellent and I had baby back ribs which were also excellent. They were cooked to perfection and the portion of ribs and chips were generous. We did not order desert because even though it was only 8.30 have the options were not available. The service was good and I was happy with the bill. I would go back and I think knowledge of the restaurant and how to order and specify would help make it a better experience. If I do go back I will order the ribs again.

I had a good experience on my second visit to this Restaurant. We went for the specials of the day. The food was gloriously Italian and the portions were certainly generous, there was flexibility, if you wanted potato instead of salad type of thing. We ordered house wine and were given 4 choices of white. Service was work-like rather than warming and there could have been a bigger gap between courses. 2 courses 2 people with house wine was about €65. The food will tempt me back.
161 Cafe Bistro
161 Upper Rathmines Road, South Dublin, Rathmines, Dublin
I went there on a Tuesday and the place was busy so noise and atmosphere was most welcome. They had a Tuesday special of 2 courses and a bottle of wine for 2 for €50 euro. The offer allowed a choice of wines. Our waitress was helpful and friendly and professional and made a great impression which will bring me back. The food is simple with good ingredients nicely presented. I enjoyed my meal very much. I hope to come back a number of times when I want to go out and not break the bank. The menu is small, which is good but also means you can exhaust it quickly so it needs new dishes from time to time. Long success to 161

Its hard to beat BBQ ribs as a starter and a beautiful rib eye steak, thick cut chips and onion rings to follow all washed down with a pint of lager.Even better with a 50% off voucher. Its nice to try different cuisines cause it makes you appreciate a good steakhouse - its like coming home.
Bella Cuba Restaurant
11 Ballsbridge Terrace, Ballsbridge, Dublin
This is my first time to this Restaurant and my first time eating Cuban food. I had a voucher as a present. I loved the place and the big portions of delicious food. It is all so earthy and rustic. What made the night so good was a very talented, helpful and friendly waitress. On arrival she went through the voucher to make sure we understood the terms. Her knowledge of the dishes was amazing and really helped in choosing our food. The prices are competitive but the wine could be a bit less expensive. I want to sample more Cuban food so we are planning our next visit. I can see us going back here a number of times.

This was an OMG experience.
Szechuan Chinese Restaurant
Above Eden House Pub , Grange Road,, Rathfarnham, Dublin 16, Rathfarnham, Dublin
I like this restaurant because the food tastes more like you get in China or Hong Kong than any other Chinese Restaurant I have been in. I don't think they use enhancers such as mono sodium glutamate and the taste of the food does not stay with you for hours and hours. I have been here 4 times so had a good journey through the menu. If you like spicy its there, if you like very spicy its there and if you don't like spicy that's no problem. Price is OK 6 for starter, 17 for main + 3 for rice and 4 for dessert, a bottle of wine is about 22. I think the wine price is a bit dear and I hate having to pay extra for rice - how are you suppose to eat a curry without rice. Staff are efficient and friendly. There is a pub down stairs and you can combine a drink before or after the meal. The 16 bus stops outside and there is a taxi rank outside the restaurant door so it has it all -

This was an adventure because we never ate Persian food before. It was nice to sample authentic Persian cuisine and we will have to go back to try other dishes. The staff are very good and very helpful. I really enjoyed the food especially a dish called Bij Bij. It was good value because we had a Menupages voucher.
D4 Urban Cafe
5 Upper Baggot Street, Ballsbridge, Dublin
I got a Menupages voucher for this Cafe for 4 courses for €27 for 2 - that's €13.5 per head for 4 courses folks - the most amazing value ever if the place/food was OK and there was no catches. That was my mindset going anyway. I am glad to say it was pleasant surprises all the way. The décor was simple but with atmosphere. It was busy and you could see and feel that people at the other tables were having a good time. I would describe the food as simple, great quality fare. The BYOB is a fab idea and saves loads. There were 3 staff on for a full house - 2 chefs and a waitress. The chef/owner is very friendly and chatty if you approach him. The waitress is amazing she buzzed around all by her self with a smila on her face - always helpful and never rushing you and very friendly and efficient. She made the experience much better. We loved the night and everything about it and hope to go back there again and again. I am giving this a 5 star rating but do have one negative and that is the poor choice of desserts - you could have lemon drizzle cake or chocolate cake. But then again there are not many desserts that I like but a bowl of Ice Cream would please me. Congratulations D4 Urban Cafe for getting everything so right to suit these recessionary times. Hats off to ya.
The Port House Ibericos
5/6 Pembroke Cottage, Pembroke District, Dundrum Town Centre, Dublin 14, Dundrum, Dublin
I have eaten there a number of times and love the place. There is comfortable room at the tables and a lovely atmosphere. The food is always very good. A lot depends on the waiter you get and up to the last visit they were first class. However the service for the last visit was not good. We were told it was very busy (its always very busy) and that we would have to order all tapas at once - we were a party of 3 and had hoped to order 4 followed by 4 but we got all 8 together. We gave up waiting for a waiter to take a desert order and got the bill instead. Having said all that negative stuff it does not put me off and I will be back again. Still had a good night.
The Dropping Well
Classon's Bridge, Milltown, Milltown, Dublin
I eat in the Dropping Well 5 or 6 times a year and really like the place. If you get a seat overlooking the water it does not feel like pub grub but more of a restaurant atmosphere . I always enjoy the food and think it is good value for the size and quality you get. I avoid battered fish because they do not make a good batter there - my only negative. The service is always quick and polite.
Roly Saul The Restaurant
The Mill House, Dundrum Town Centre, Dublin 14, Dundrum, Dublin
We had the pre-theatre menu and were very disappointed with the food. Sea food chowder was mostly salmon. We had steaks for mains (there is an extra charge for Steak) they were the right colour for medium rare, but there was no juice left in them, they were dry and unappetizing. Service was OK. I won't go back.

Pavilion Restaurant @ Herbert Park Hotel
Herbert Park Hotel, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin
I went to the Herbert Park Hotel to dine with friends. It was not my choice of venue and my expections were low. There was not a lot of people there so the athmosphere was not on fire. But the food and service were of a very high standard. Pate started was 8 out of 10. My main course scored a very deserved 10 out of 10 - first class roast Goose. I had a cheeseboard to finish and my only complaint is that it was too generous.
