Went here for my birthday dinner. The taxi driver wasn't even sure where is was but it was so central to town. I got French Onion Soup and their special of a trio of fish (fab), my boyfriend got the prawns to start and the special of Casoulet for the main. The atmoshpere was lovely but some hoity toity people there who were looking at me a bit funny when I was laughing loudly but I didn't really mind- I was enjoying myself. The service was great, the hostess explained everything about the specials and we never had to ask for anything- they were always on hand to offer more water or whatever else we needed. Plus it was good value. For a 3 course meal for 2 it was €70, plus a lovely bottle of red for €26. Would reccommend

La Lavanda
Main Street, East Village, Douglas, Cork

Went here for late lunch on Saturday.. Just for a pitta and burger.. Place was pretty quiet so we got seated quickly but half way through my chicken pitta I found a long black hair. I brought this to the attention of the waitress and she went away. We ordered 2 coffee's and when the bill came there was no reduction to the bill and no apology about the hair in my food. I was very disappointed and even though we only live 5 minutes walk from Amicus we will not be going here again and will not be recommending it to anyone in the future.

El Vino @ The Elysian
The Elysian Tower, Eglinton Street, Cork City, Cork

Went here for the first time last night. I've been to the one in Douglas a few times so I knew what to expect. There are more main courses on the menu in town so it meant many of the customers didn't really understand the whole tapas idea. I thought the staff should have made it clearer to the older customers that tapas are not starters. Food was lovely overall, we got 5 tapas between 2 of us. Scallops tasted like they weren't the freshest but they were still pretty good. The worst part of the night was when we ordered a cocktail at the end of the night- I got mine within 10 minutes but my boyfriend waited about 45 minutes for his! When we enquired after waiting for about 25 minutes we were told then ran out of limes and someone had popped out to get some so he ordered a different cocktail which took another 20 minutes to come. Left us feeling annoyed

The Bay Leaf
Main Street, Douglas, Cork

We booked a table for 6 at 7.30pm on Saturday. It all started off well. The selection on the menu was good. 5 of the 6 people decided to get the 4 course special for €35 but we all left 3 hours later after getting only 3 of the course. The first 2 courses were good but the deserts were terrible- the tarlets were anyway- they felt like they had been taken out of the freezer and the bases were rock solid and impossible to break with your spoon without sending it across the room. Services was very slow so we just ended up leaving. I've been there 4 times now due to the location and all times my experince has been similar

The East Village Bar Restaurant and Hotel
East Village, Douglas, Cork

We went to the East Village for lunch during the Munster match so there was a great crowd there and a good atmosphere. However on entering the restaurant one of the waitress was taking money from one couple and didn't even ackowledge us. When the other people let we asked for a table for 2 and she threw her eyes up to heaven. she picked up the menus - saying nothing and put them on near by table never saying a word to us. 3 times after that she walked past banging off my chair. The food was good and our waitress was very nice (a different girl) but I left the place feeling like our business was not wanted. I won't be going back there again even though we live in the village and dine out once a week or every 2 weeks

Fat Freddys
The Halls, Quay Street, Galway City, Galway

Been here a few times before and I think it's a safe bet for a nice meal at a good price. however this night it was pretty quiet- only 4 other tables full so there wasn't much of an atmosphere. Service was ok but my partner was offered a free refill of his drink when we ordered, the waitress never actually came round to give it to him. good cheap eats but not for a special occasion

Oscars Seafood Bistro (Galway)
Lower Dominic Street, Galway City, Galway

I really enjoyed this meal. we got 2 starters 2 mains and a botle of wine for €90. Steak was one of the nicest I think I've ever had - that's high praise coming from a beef farmer.. Got the mustard mash swapped in in place of the standard chips option with no fuss. THe staf were friendly, helpful but not too in your face. A very enjoyable experience I have to say and I would reccommend to my friends next time we are in the city

Hardwood Restaurant
31 Popes Quay, Cork City, Cork

Went for the recession buster meal deal on a Tuesday night. there were 4 of us and we were make feel extremely welcome from the minute we walked in the door. Everything we all got was cooked to perfection, tasty, plenty of it and the service was immecible. Our waitress was really friendly but not too in your face. I really think this is such a great venu. I'd be happy to bring anyone there. Half thinking of booking it for my boyfriend's 30th. I haven't been anywhere in the last 12 months where the service and atmosphere is as good- especially in places where we've spent more than 4 times the cost of dinner here. I'll be back
