visited on a saturday afternoon while enjoying a weekend in the city and the place was busy and buzzing. nice atmosphere, friendly staff and a nice lunch. we both went for a panini with chicken which had a lovely flavoured sauce on it, i think mayo mixed with sweet chilli, and it had lovely baby roast potatoes and a salad garnish. only complaint would be that its adverttised as a panini but only had a quarter of a panini bread!!!! even a half would have been nice. was a bit expensive for a panini. had 2 lattes which were served quickly and i assume they single shot their coffees (really need a double shot guys) would definitely go back though, a pleasant overall experience. jk

The Buttery Cafe
The Old School House, Newtownmountkennedy, Wicklow

Arrived here just before 4.30 and walked to the counter this is where it all started to go downhill... the guy did not even speak, just stood there.... (there was not any chance of a smile breaking out either) then after a few moments of me not speaking either he used the phrase i hate in any restaurant/coffee shop...."are you ok?" ....what ever happened to, hello, how are you, what can i get for you?.... i always feel like saying, i will be ok when you ask me what i would like.... i got my coffee and cake delivered to my table again without a word and within minutes the music was switched off and the door bolted...... there were still about 20-25 minutes to go before the place closed but i was already feeling uncomfortable now. I don know or care if the place is good during the day, if i am served in a place i then dont want to be put under pressure to finish up and leave. if 5 is last orders then you should not be made feel as if your holding the staff up half an hour before that... very disapointed

The Garden Cafe @ Avoca Mount Usher Gardens
Mount Usher Gardens, Ashford (off N11), Ashford, Wicklow

The food in here is lovely and well presented but the service was a little bit slow today, not sure why as it was not hectic, but the prices are crazy in this day and age. i dont care how good a bowl of soup is, its not worth €5.95 and i had a lovely fish pie but when i added chips that brought it to almost €20 for a fish pie with a few chips.... that is absolutely absurd. flash it up with a fancy name on the menu but its still fish pie and chips!!! when i go for lunch i expect a main course to include some veg and either potatoes or chips, this thing of charging extra for sides is starting to get ridiculous. here we have a lovely environment with nice food but way way overpriced. these are night time restaurant prices. Very poor value.

The Tap
The Tap (Inactive), Kilbride Street, Ashford, Wicklow

dropped in again today just in case i was being a bit harsh in my last review but this time i was very disapointed. the service was very poor as if the staff needed training in how to be nice to the customer. and they seem to be tripping over each other not sure who will serve you, and i dont mean in a good way. as i mentioned before the coffee is way overpriced and not that nice, a bit week. The food is nice but way way overpriced for what it is. i'm really fed up with places that are not a take away coffee place that expect you to go to a counter, place your order and pay for it before you had recieved your drink/food or found a seat. whatever happened to table service???? at these prices you deserve table service.

Ristorante Morsiani - Closed
1 Fitzwilliam Square, Wicklow Town, Wicklow

4 of us popped in with no reservation and the place was very quiet. it looks lovely and homely and is nice and warm but menu, even though it has been reduced by 50% since the place opened is still a bit too comprehensive and although its nice to have info about a dish, there is just a bit too much on this menu which takes ages to work through and pick your dish. sauces are lovely and main courses are good value but starters are too expensive for what you get. i think the pricing has just not been thought through properly. Good wine list but the cheaper wines are far more expensive than they should be. the food is nice, but there is just something that does not work, but not sure what it is to be honest. food is good, staff are friendly so give it a try. we will give it another chance and hope the place does work as we need a nice authentic italian in wicklow.

Diva Restaurant & Piano Bar
The Harbour, Greystones, Wicklow

myself and 2 friends visited and arrived early, the food was ok but nothing incredible and not great value. far too few staff on for a full restaurant and this showed in the service. people at the table next to us arrived at the same time, but left when we finished our starters as they had not even had their order taken. what i thought was the worst thing about that incident was the fact that no-one even noticed they were gone!!! paid an all in price for meal +wine and was disapointed then to realise if we had bought all the dishes seperately off the menu it would have been cheaper. would go back but....well maybe not

Leitrim Bar & Lounge
15 Leitrim place, Wicklow Town, Wicklow

visited with 2 friends and overall was disapointed. place was empty when we arrived and it still took 10 minutes to get a menu. no apology for the delay and not a chance of a smile. 2 of the group went for the special menu which is 2 eat for €20. very good value and food was fine... pub grub and a good standard, but 1 of us went for sizzling beef with black bean sauce which was good and a nice portion but at €16.95 this is just too expensive for a pub meal in our opinion. in these times with so much choice out there, all eateries really need to get the staff to realise that the customer pays their wages and should be appreciated more and there are much friendlier places in wicklow town only a short walk away. have eaten here lots over the years and the lunchtime carveries here are good value but have definitely noticed a big slip in service.

Casapepe
Wicklow House, Market Square, Wicklow Town, Wicklow

Re-visited Casa Pepe during the bank holiday weekend with 5 friends and arrived without a booking but were seated very quickly even though the place was jammed. I mentioned after a previous visit that they really need to have more staff and this time was no different.... just the owner and one waitress which i think is a bit mean... pay some staff when you know your going to be full on a bank holiday. All our food was lovely and i noticed that they have dropped the prices in line with the VAT reduction which is great, but the service is just too slow because of the lack of staff. We were not in a rush so were not getting annoyed at the delays but on other tables people seemed to be looking at their watches. It's a nice place with nice atmosphere and consistently good food so dont spoil it by not having enough staff

Summervilles of Greystones
1 Trafalgar Road, Greystones, Greystones, Wicklow

This is a lovely place, with great food which all seems to be homemade. Great atmosphere and crazy busy which really only adds to the atmosphere. as mentioned previously by another reviewer, the coffee is a little bit of a letdown.... had a latte which i can only assume was 1 shot as it was very week. bit of a fanatic here about my coffee and was not happy with it. we had a crumble and a scone and both were absolutely divine. have been here many times and will be back many times. staff are very friendly and helpfull. i think it ties for 1st place as my favourite coffee shop. These 2 places should be the benchmark for anyone thinking of opening a coffee shop.

Donelli's
Market Square, Wicklow Town, Wicklow

seems to have a great name for evening meal, but as a daytime coffee shop we were not impressed. it was a while since we had been in here and it will be a while again i think.(will try an evening meal though to be fair to them and only because of the good reviews posted) had 2 paninis with chicken and had never seen so little chicken in a panini. was very disapointed. if your charging these prices then at least fill the panini. had a coffee and cake, the coffee was lovely, but cake was just ok, and like the panini, was very expensive compared to what we have had elsewhere recently. the staff could be a bit more friendly although they were efficient but a smile would have helped soften the blow of the bill.

Square Steakhouse
Market Square, Wicklow Town, Wicklow

been here lots of times and love the place. the food is always lovely, although last time found the lemon butter sauce not really quite enough to lift my salmon. just something missing, but lots of veg dishes on the side, you will never leave hungry. midweek special menu is good value as mentioned elswhere with a glass of wine/beer included in price of 21.50. usually a nice atmosphere even when its not busy, and as mentioned before, the head waiter could be a bit friendlier, although service is quick and attentive. we will continue to visit.

The Coffee Shop
Fitzwilliam Square, Wicklow Town, Wicklow

lovely looking place from outside, and quaint inside too but tables in back area are ridiculously close together. been going here for years and always enjoy the food, although the choice has hardly changed in years. carrot cake as mentioned by someone else, is lovely as is the apple pie, but overall expensive. nice soups and salads too but again, a bit pricey when you add a few to your roll. biggest downside is the that the staff are a bit unfriendly, but the lack of friendliness in here lets the place down badly. not our favourite regular coffee stop anymore in the town, but will visit occasionally.

Halpin's Bridge Cafe
Bridge Street, Wicklow Town, Wicklow

visit this place every week and it never dissapoints. ... and they dropped the prices with the VAT cut on the first day... not too many in the town did that. the place has one of the nicest atmospheres I ever encountered in a coffee shop, with the friendliest staff of any coffee shop in the town. they always welcome you in and even thank you when you leave. the owner usually shows you to your table and is a bundle of laughs going from table to table chatting and joking and from what we saw of the way he treated some tourists that were dining, he should be getting paid by bord failte. he was recomending places to visit in the town and drawing on maps in the middle of the lunch rush. and the food... incredible. always a great choice on the menu and specials board, this visit i had lovely beef strogonoff and 3 side salads €9.50, and my companion had a warm tartlet with Vine tomatoes, basil and fresh mozarella €7.50.. finished up with one of the nicest cappucinos i have tasted ever, lovely creamy milk and the coffee is fantastic.and a really large americano coffee that was only €1.95, Cant believe a previous reviewer said the coffee was bad, one of the nicest blends i ever tasted. (did they work for ILLY lol) Dont even want to mention the desert counter, i can feel the weight piling on lol.
