This was my first visit here and it turned out to be an excellent dining experience. The reception was welcoming and efficient; the atmosphere was very pleasant, the dining area being open and spacious, with decor that emphasises the "Fishy" nature of the establishment. The staff were attentive and very helpful. The menu offered a good choice of fish dishes, and the wine-list was first-rate. The food itself was superb; a delicious chowder, followed (for me) by Sea-Trout and (for my wife) warm chicken salad. Both were prepared to perfection, were served at the proper temperature, and the helpings were generous. The post-prandial tea was the best I've had in a restaurant for as long as I can remember. Definitely a place to return to!

Alfies
10 South William Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

This was my first visit here. Three of us had lunch here today, one of us had been here before, and recommended it as a good place to eat. We were very pleased with it. One had the Lunch Box option, one had Vegetarian and one had soup and then Chicken Curry. We were each fully satisfied with the meal. The waiting staff were excellent: they were prompt, attentive and helpful. The flavours of the food served fully met the high expectations raised by the excellent presentation.

Les Freres Jacques
74 Dame Street, Dublin City Centre, Temple Bar, Dublin

This is a lovely restaurant; from the moment you enter you know that it is out of the ordinary. There is a very definite French theme underlying everything, from the welcome to the ambience to the food itself. To eat here is to realise that the owners strive for excellence in the provision of Frence Cuisine, and spare no pains to achieve their aim. I had a Gazpacho, aubergine-based, to start - delicious! Lamb to follow was equally good, but the serving was less than I had expected. Previously I had Sole here, the "signature" dish of the house, and I was fully satisfied with it. Cheeseboard to finish was very, very good. The wine-list offers a wide range of wines, including a Pinot Noir d'Alsace. I always think that to offer a somewhat unusual (for Ireland anyway) wine shows readiness to push out the boundaries in the interest of providing a distinctive dining experience. And Les Freres Jacques succeeds in the attempt.

The Garryvoe Hotel
Ballycotton Bay, Castlemartyr, Cork

We had lunch here on Saturday the 4th. Soup, sandwiches, and for one of us, mackeral fillets. Quality and quantities were all that could be desired, the atmosphere is pleasant. Situated close to the beach, this pub/restaurant provides a comfortable and welcoming place to have either a snack during a trip to the sea, or a good meal at the end of a day spent on the beach.

Marina @ The Carlton Shearwater Hotel
Marina Point, Ballinasloe, Galway

Three of us stopped here on our way from Dublin to Galway, for a meal, at about 7pm. The food was excellent, cooked to perfection and with the most wonderful blending of flavours. We had soup, salads, fish, chicken and a vegetarian dish, and each of us was delighted with our choice. In each case, the herbs and flavourings used gave a delicious flavour to the dish; each was truly a triumph of culinary art. The dining room is spacious and airy, and is of a modern style; the waiting staff are welcoming, helpful and friendly. The atmosphere is one of comfortable elegance. Without doubt, this is a restaurant to return to.
