40Foot Bar&Grill; restaurant
Pavillion Centre, Royal Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, Area Code:
Reviewed 18th July 2011 ( visited 10th July 2011 )Hadn't been here in a while and the menu had changed since I was last there, it was hard to make a decision because everything sounded delicious. Decided on a Louisianna Chicken Bap with roast red peppers and basil mayonnaise it was soooo tasty! Service was super as always and had some lovely cocktails. Prices are very reasonable for the standard of food you get and for the surroundings you are in.
Jacks Bar & Dining Area @ Killashee House Hotel restaurant
Killashee, Naas, Kildare
Reviewed 04th October 2010 ( visited 04th August 2010 )We had our wedding rehersal in a local church and decided to book here for the bridal party and our parents (10 of us in total). We arrived and there was no table ready for us and they seemingly had no record of our booking, I booked it early in the afternoon on the same day. The waitress made a half assed attempt to try find somewhere to seat us and in the end we pulled tables together ourselves, all of which were dirty, considering the place was not busy we found this odd as there was plent of staff on. Overall the service was appalling from start to finish and for the first time in a long long time we didn't tip. We asked 3 times where was the wine we ordered on arrival. We were embarrased as we were paying for the meal for the group. The food wasn't too bad at all so their kitchen must be alot more efficient than their floor staff.
14/15 Trinity Street, Dublin , City Centre South, Dublin
The food was fantastic - could not be faulted in the slightest. The atmosphere was very pleasant, the value was excellent for the standard of food; lunchtime 2 courses €20 or 3 courses €25. It was an added bonus seeing Nick Munier chat to the chefs at the pass! But the service really lets this great place down. It started off great but went downhill. Our mains were delicious but no one came to check to see if everything was ok or if we'd like another glass of wine/another bottle of water. We were handed dessert menus and chose two desserts which sounded fab and we'd decided on coffees and we waited......and we waited......and we waited!!! Over 15 minutes passed and the staff were more interested in clearing down dirty tables and resetting them than looking after the customers they actually had. We got fed up and asked a young girl who'd just come on duty for the bill. Our bill came to €63, about €30 less than we had planned to pay we would have ordered extra wine/water/dessert and coffee....if we were given proper service. Just to mention again how fab the food was though!
Soho Bar and Restaurant
77 Grand Parade, Cork City, Cork
Stopped off here after a break in Cork. First impressions were good, nice airy bar, lovely Christmas decorations and the menu looked good with plenty of choice. I ordered Blackened Chicken Quesadilla's, with sour cream, salsa and guacamole dips. There was hardly any chicken and they were destroyed by too much cheese, also the salsa and guacamole were very obviously out of a jar. Guacamole was inedible. My husband had a chicken jambalaya which was described lovely on the menu but was just ok. Two mains, two glasses of house wine and two coffees came to just under €50 which is expensive for lunchtime. Service was ok, cutlery that was put down in front of us wasn't polished and had water marks. Simple things that let an otherwise nice bar/restaurant down.
The Grapevine Cafe Wine & Tapas Bar
6 Rose Inn Street, Kilkenny City, Kilkenny
Probably the most authentic tapas I've had outside of Spain. Generally what you are given in Ireland is basically a selction of starters that can be seen in any restaurant, ie Goats Cheese Crostini, Chicken Satay etc. What we got here was in a different class altogether. The food, although fantastic, was quite expensive, averaged about €6 per tapas and almost €12 for a simple but fantastic cheeseboard. The service was brisk and friendly.
Main Street, Schull, Cork
Nice simple food, quite overpriced for what you get but it is wholesome and if anything the portions are too big. The service was pretty bad but they were all young teenage girls who obviously weren't being given any direction. If we had seen the lady chef standing outside the door at the main entrance having a cigarette when we were on the way in we would have never have gone i,n but as we saw her on the way out there was not much we could do.
Deasy's Harbour Bar & Seafood Restaurant
Ring Village, Clonakilty, Clonakilty, Cork
Just about made it in before 3pm before it closed for lunch. Very quaint little pub on the seafront just outside Clonakilty. We had probably the best Seafood we have ever had, ever! We had starters of Fish Spring Rolls & Crispy Pork Belly & mains were amazing, Monkfish & Prawn Risotto perfectly cooked and a Brill, Plaice & Crab Parmesan Gratin. Fantastic food. Service was neither here not there, no one checked on our table and the staff were scruffily dressed and seemed all over the place. Paying €32 a head you'd expect a reasonable standard of service. Our bill with 2 glasses of wine, water & coffee was €77, well worth every penny, if only they could up the service...
Friary Road, Naas, Kildare
Have never had a bad meal here. It is consistently good from the service to the food. Great value too. Was delighted to see how busy it was on the Sunday evening that we were there.
Victoria House Asian Cuisine
5/6 Nugent Street, Station Road, Kildare, Kildare Town, Kildare
Had a lovely meal here recently and was delighted to see that they have reduced their prices, even if it was only on their wine. They were offering 35% off all bottles of wine. The food is always good but a tad expensive.
The Village @ Lyons, Celbridge, Kildare
Had a beautiful lunch here today, the risotto starter was amazing and main course of beef was delicious, gorgeous mash & roast veg. Only negative was that the service, although very friendly, was not up to scratch. We were waiting 10 mins before anyone brought us a menu and then we were interrogated for the second time as to if we had a reservation and what name it was booked under, we had already given our name etc at the restaurant reception. We ordered wine which only arrived when I was almost finished my starter. Overall though it is a beautiful setting and again, the food was fantastic.
The Egg Cafe (Avoca Rathcoole)
Naas Road, Rathcoole, Dublin
Definitely not a "cheap eats" restaurant as it is advertised on this site but for what you get for your money it is worth every penny. I had the Beef Curry and it was amazing, my sister in law had the Fish Pie and it would easily have fed 2 people. The curry came with 3 ramekins of dips and nuts, salad, garlic naan, tender beef, gorgeous rice with raisins and peaches, my mouth is watering at the tought of it! We had 2 starters, 2 mains, a bottle of house wine and a pitcher of delicious sparkling lemonade, it came to €89 and although it was expensive it was worth every cent!
Dew Drop Inn
(Centre of) Kill Village, Naas, Naas, Kildare
Fab Chicken WIngs. Think this place has improved. Great service from a lovely waiter. Wish I'd have been hungrier!
The Riverside Restaurant - Closed
Market Square, Kilcullen, Kildare
Ate here with some friends just before Christmas. Gorgeous surroundings, really nice girl served us and she was very efficient. Food was tasty and good value for money, the Tagine is delicious. Will be back for sure.
Fallons Cafe and Bar
Main Street, Kilcullen, Kildare
Came here on Bank Holiday Monday. Food is tasty and there is a lovely cosy atmosphere but it's very overpriced. Over €20 for chicken breast! Staff are normally efficicent but service was sloppy and a bottle of wine was left off our bill.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK Newbridge)
Unit 57 – 59, The Avenue, Whitewater Shopping Centre, Newbridge, Kildare
Very pleasant staff who are attentive and are masters at upselling! We popped in for a bite to eat before the cinema and I made the mistake of ordering a Chicken & Chorizo Salad, in places like these you should stick to what they are good at, Burgers! The salad was very disappointing but my husbands burger looked great and the onion rings and fries with the garlic dip were very tasty too. They have nice wine by the glass and Heineken on tap. We'll be back, but I'll be having a burger!
Boss Byrnes Bar and Restaurant
Canal View, Sallins, Kildare
Stopped here for lunch. Bad choice. The food tasted like everything had come out of a packet and think carvery is old hat in this day and age. Couldn't even get a decent panini/sambo. Stale bread and cold bland soup :( Over priced for what I got. Much better value in the area. Wont be back in a hurry!
Shanahan’s on the Green
119 St. Stephens Green, Dublin , City Centre South, Dublin
Had dinner here last night and it was amazing as always. We went for the early bird menu starter, main course, dessert, coffee €45. Exceptional value as there is a fillet option for main course and cheese board on the dessert menu and included in the price was 3 side orders for the table. The fillets were cooked to perfection and everything from start to finsh was delicious.
Devoy Quarter, Naas, Kildare
Had lunch here today. I've only ever been here during the week when they do carvery at lunchtime and usually have a nice sandwich made up to order which is always tasty. The a la carte menu was only available today and the menu read quite nice but what we got after a very lengthly wait was not good. I ordered the chicken wings which were neither hot, sour or sticky as the menu said, they were miserable wings deep fried within an inch of their life. Definitely way over priced at €8.50. Side order of skinny chips were over cooked. Left most of the food. No one came to check on us in fact the staff seemed under pressure even though it wasn't busy. We odered tea which never arrived and our dirty plates were still in front of us half an hour after we were done.
Weeping Thaiger (Naas)
Wolfetone Street, New Town Centre, Naas, Kildare
Not overly impressed with the stater selection as almost everything is deep fried but their mains are delicious and superb value at €10. Nice wine list and reasonably priced too. The restaurant itself lack a bit of warmth but always looks spotlessly clean.
The Ballymore Inn
Main Street, Ballymore Eustace, Kildare
Decided to give here another go and was a bit disappointed yet again. The food is so overpriced, €3.95 for just 4 bad onion rings in a portion! We ate this time in the back bar and the male staff were much busier looking at a football match on the TV than serving customers, bar one girl who was very pleasant and attentive even though she wasn't even serving our table but she was keeping a close eye on the teenage girl who was. We ordered two pizza's which were mediocre and at €13.50 each you'd expect a decent level of toppings. The House Wine is consistenly good, we were given glasses of water without having to ask which is always a plus. Over all the service is on average good but their prices really need to be reduced.
Flaming Wok The
Woods Centre, Clane, Kildare
Really enjoyed the food here everything was absolutely delicious. They could do with some soft furnishings to absorb some of the noise though! The noise level is something else and they could do with dimming the lights a bit to create a bit more atmosphere. Anyway, the food is consistantly good.

Vie de Chateaux
The Harbour, Naas, Kildare
Heard recently that this restaurant won the "Best Restaurant in Kildare" award, very well deserved! If only the tables weren't so close together it'd be perfect.
Milltown, Newbridge, Kildare, Newbridge, Kildare
Ate here last week and just found the food was very expensive. The starters were very pricy in particular. Prawns in pastry were €15.50!!!!! I expect to pay that for a main course in these times not a starter. Service was ok, atmosphere nice enough.
The Bridgewater Inn
Canal View, Sallins, Kildare
Came here with another couple just before Christmas. We went for their special offer, 2 two course meals and a bottle of wine for €50. So for €100 we shared two starters, (best chicken wings in Kildare and the garlic prawns are sooo good), had 4 delicious, way above pub food standard main course's followed by chocolate fudge cake and homemade baileys & chocolate chip cheesecake and two bottles of Pinot Grigio. Wow, fantastic food and there is no where in or around the area offering such good value for the quality of food, wine and service is second to none!
