Lovely meal. Waiting staff very pleasant. However, downstairs seating area was not to our liking, and not what we had booked. No great effort at apology. This is the third time that a booking through Menupages has not worked (various restaurants) so better to book direct with restaurants in future. Disappointing, as Bijou had been one of our favourites.

Gleeson’s Townhouse and Restaurant
Market Square, Roscommon Town, Roscommon

Just back from a short break at Gleeson's Townhouse & Restaurant in Roscommon. Gleeson's Townhouse is a very nicely converted and extended Manse, and has preserved the charm of the old house. Entry to reception brings you into the old parlour, where we sat and read by the roaring log fire. A full bar service means that we could enjoy a drink while we relaxed. The staff are lovely, and nothing is a problem. The restaurant provides terrific food. Two starters of baked brie, with a sweet relish which had a lovely aniseed flavour, and lovely crusty bread. Jennifer's main was a large salmon steak, with prawn mousse. Mine was a delightful braised lamb steak, which looked like it had been slow cooking for hours. Absolutely top class food. Gleeson's Townhouse is a real find - we will be back for more !!

Fiorentina
40 Parliament Street, Dublin 2, City Centre, Temple Bar, Dublin

Lovely meal on Friday night, having read a very good review from Paulo Tullio. Greeted by very friendly staff, followed by terrific food. We both had Crab Risotto to start, followed by Braised Ox-Cheek. The risotto was soft and creamy and delicate in flavour. The ox cheek was a big piece of meat but I could have cut it with a wooden spoon - soft and dark. Not too keen on the texture of the polenta but that is personal preference. Both meals were terrific. Followed by two good desserts. Value for money for the standard of food. Highly recommended. Will be back.

I Monelli restaurant
1-2 Portobello Road , Portobello, Dublin

Had a lovely night out on Friday at I Monelli - still one of our favourite local restaurants, previously known as Il Divo. A very warm welcome as usual, and the service was as good as ever. The menu has changed along with the name, but still as good as ever. All the food was terrific. Accompanied by a good bottle of wine and the whole meal (and the night) was great. I Monelli looks like it will continue the good characteristics of Il Divo, and is highly recommended - we will continue to come here for the food, the service and the value for money.

The Italian Corner
23/24 Wellington Quay, Dublin City Centre, Dublin 2, Temple Bar, Dublin

A great evening at The Italian Corner on Friday last. Warm and friendly greeting at the door, and our discount voucher and menu options were explained clearly and without fuss. We could order anything we liked, and they would adjust the bill accordingly. Food was good, and we shared a very good Antipasto Misto starter. Good pizza and pasta dishes. Very pleased with our visit, and we plan to be back.

The Wild Goose Grill
First Floor, Above McSorleys, 1 Sandford Road, Dublin 6 , Ranelagh, Dublin

Had a terrific meal at The Wild Goose. From start to finish, everything is very good here. The food is terrific - this was my third time here, and each meal has been equally good. Booking is quick and efficient - the welcome is warm and friendly - the service is attentive without being intrusive - and the food is top drawer. Highly recommended. Plan to return soon.

il Divo Restaurant
2 Terenure Road East, (Above Comans), Rathgar, Dublin

Another great night out at Il Divo. Great to see it very full on Friday night, as these guys deserve to do well. Been here more than 20 times over the past five years, and never been disappointed. Twice brought guests with us. Always liked it, and it's even better since the change of owners. Great food, great service, and great value for money. Still one of our favourites. Definitely be back.

The Duck Terrace@Marlfield House
Marlfield House Hotel & Restaurant, Courtown Road R742, Gorey, Gorey, Wexford

Once again, we have enjoyed a truly remarkable meal at Marlfield House. Everything here combines to produce a wonderful dining experience, from the elegant setting of Marlfield House itself, to the warm and welcoming staff, and of course the food !! Everything on the plate is delicious, and so beautifully presented that you don't know whether to eat it or photograph it !! Marlfield House is an absolute gem - we've been before, and we'll be back again !!

Boulevard Cafe
27 Exchequer Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre South, Dublin

Enjoyed a very nice meal at Boulevard on Friday evening. A good crowd in, so plenty of atmosphere. My starter of chicken liver pate was really very good, and my wife was very happy with her salad (particular mention of the tasty dressing). Wife's main of prawn pasta was also very good. I was disappointed with my rib-eye steak, but I really should not have ordered it - I just don't like the fat content in a typical rib-eye, which I must remember for the next time. Service was attentive and very pleasant. This was our second time here, and we have enjoyed both visits. We hope to be back.

Les Freres Jacques
74 Dame Street, Dublin City Centre, Temple Bar, Dublin

Enjoyed a terrific night at Les Freres Jacques on Saturday evening, availing of a Menupages voucher. A very friendly greeting on arrival was followed by lovely food, despite the fact that it was a special (presumably discounted) menu for Menupages customers. A good selection to choose from, and all of it very good, along with a choice of very reasonably priced wines. The beetroot soup was terrific, much to my surprise, as beetroot would not be a favourite of mine. I would have preferred a little more bite to my terrine, as I found the consistency to be a little too jelly-like for my taste, but the flavour was good. My wife's calamari and prawn salad was very good - again, she has had poor experience of calamari in the past, but this was very good. My steak and her salmon were great, and the dark chocolate mousse to finish was excellent. Plenty of atmosphere, and it all added up to a great night out. This restaurant is back on our list of favourites.

Rolys Bistro
7 Ballsbridge Terrace, Dublin, Ballsbridge, Dublin

Thoroughly enjoyed a terrific evening out at Roly's Bistro. Two very good starters - blue cheese and pear salad, and a chicken liver parfait - followed by two really very good sirloin steaks. Both tasty and juicy and tender. Accompanied by an ordinary looking selection of vegetables, which tasted anything BUT ordinary. Simple boiled potatoes tasted great, and the broccoli with tarragon sauce was an eye opener. Two great desserts to finish off. Service was very good, and the value for money with a Menupages voucher was first rate. A terrific night out - Roly's is still on our list of favourites. Highly recommended.

Chez K's Restaurant at the Fitzwilton
The Fitzwilton Hotel, Bridge Street, Waterford City, Waterford

Staying in the hotel overnight, and decided to try the restaurant rather than going out. Knew nothing about either hotel or restaurant, so had no great expectations. Were very pleasantly surprised. Extensive menu with a lot to choose from. All the food was very high quality, and some of it was tricky and technical stuff - think MasterChef on TV. Also, the waiter was both friendly and helpful, and explained how some of the meal was prepared - obviously very keen on his job, which is always a good sign. A great meal, at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Bijou Bistro & Wine
46/47 Highfield Road, Dublin 6, Rathgar, Dublin

Another excellent night out at Bijou - a party of four, as one of us was celebrating a rather special birthday. Lovely touch to be welcomed back by name, with a remark that it is some time since we were last here. Food was excellent, and the service as good as ever. Can't remember what everybody ate, but my blade of beef was superb - presumably a long slow cooking time. A big lump of meat (rather like a filllet steak) but so dark and soft that I cut it with the side of my fork. Never been disappointed at Bijou, and this night was no exception. Great night out.

Bridge Bar and Bistro
The Malting Tower,, Grand Canal Quay, Dublin, Grand Canal Dock, Dublin

Excellent night out here on Friday last. Friendly and attentive staff. Lovely scallop and black pudding starters for both of us, and the wife was very happy with her gnocchi main course. My fillet steak was good, but was stone cold by the time I had it finished - a hot plate might have kept it warm while I ate it. However, the Menupages voucher didn't work out too well - there was no allowance made on the bill for the fact that we didn't have desserts. However, everything else was charged for, including water - as well as two drinks that we didn't have. This strikes me as - well - a bit mean-spirited. The live singer was great, and the atmosphere was terrific. A great night out - pity there wasn't a little bit more thought when preparing the bill.

Lautrecs Tapas & Wine Bar Kilkenny
9 St Kieran's Street, Kilkenny City, Kilkenny

Just the one night in Kilkenny on our way back from Wexford, and nowhere booked for dinner. Checked out a number of restaurants, and liked the look of this one. What a find !! Lovely cosy atmosphere - very friendly welcome - very good service throughout - and all the food was terrific. We did the whole deal this time, with starters, mains, desserts, and irish coffees. This was very good food in a great location - definitely one to recommend (which we do now) and one to go back to again (which we will do on our next Kilkenny visit). Great restaurant - very well done !!

Bar Italia
26 Blooms Lane , Lower Ormond Quay, City Centre North, Italian Quarter, Dublin

Finbished off a lovely evening here on Easter Thursday, having shared a bottle of wine in a nearby wine bar. Found the staff very friendly, and the two pizzas (and another bottle of wine) were very good. A lovely friendly place, with very reasonable prices for the quality offered. We've added this place to our list of favourites - definitely be back.

Seasons Restaurant (Portlaoise)
24A Market Square, Portlaoise, Laois

Called in to Seasons on our way back from Kinsale, and had a very pleasant meal, in very comfortable surroundings. We had been eating all week-end, so our appetites were small, but both main courses were very good. This is a real find, to break the journey from either Cork or Limerick. Good and friendly service, and tasty food with some nice and unexpected touches - this restaurant deserves to do well. Recommended

Crackpots Restaurant & Pottery
3 Cork Street, Kinsale, Cork

Had the most wonderful meal in Crackpots on Friday night. Everything about the place was first class, from the very warm welcome and friendly service, to the great atmosphere, and the terrific food. Beautifully presented, every mouthful was a pleasure. Possibly the best meal out we have ever eaten. In a town renowned for its great food, Crackpots stands out. Kinsale is a long way from Dublin, so we don't get there often - but we are looking forward to our next trip, and Crackpots will definitely be on the plan. Tops marks !!

The Wild Boar
Stepaside Village, Dublin 18, Stepaside, Dublin

Went to the Wild Boar on Friday night, using a Menupages Voucher. High expectations, as this restaurant is operated by the owner of two other restaurants in Dublin, both of which we enjoyed very much. No surprise, the food was excellent, and the service warm and friendly. However, the location is a problem for us. Too far out of town, means two very expensive taxi trips simply add too much to the cost of the night out. Lovely place for a special occasion, and ideal for anybody living nearer - but too costly for a regular night out.

Little Caesars (Harcourt Street)
The Harcourt Hotel, 59 Harcourt Street, City Centre South, Dublin

Very pleasant meal at Little Ceasars Harcourt Street on a Friday night. Drinks nearby beforehand, and then in for their usual reliable food. Good service - even making up my favourite pizza, which was not actually on their menu. Good food, at reasonable prices - still very good value.

Reeds @ Ferrycarrig Hotel
Ferrycarrig Bridge, Wexford, Wexford Town, Wexford

Had a lovely meal in Reeds on a Saturday night, while staying nearby in Wexford. My Smoked Salmon starter was terrific, and the wife's Pate was good, if a little dry for our taste. My Roast Lamb was lovely, while my wife's Seafood Plate was tasty and generous. Nice bottle of reasonably priced wine, before finishing with two good desserts and coffee. We had dressed up for dinner, and the dining room and service were stylish and elegant. A lovely night out.

Casapepe Gorey
92 Main Street, Gorey, Gorey, Wexford

Stopped off in Casapepe on our way to Wexford after work on a Friday night, because it had been well recommended on Menupages. The reports were all good, and all accurate. We found a cosy, friendly restaurant, offering good food and service. My Crostini Misti starter was really good - tasty and well presented. My wife's Garlic Mushrooms were equally good, and we both followed with the same pizza - a vegetarian option with spinach, rocket and egg. Very tasty. The bill was € 47 including a 500 ml carafe of wine. Good food - good service - good value.

Brasserie Sixty6
66/67 Great South Georges Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre South, Dublin

Went here on Friday night, and the atmosphere was great (if a bit noisy) - seemed to be very busy, and plenty of fun was being had all round us. Cocktails to start were tasty, but slow in coming. As a result, our starters were served before we had started the cocktails, even though we asked the waitress to hold them until we were finished. Result - my starter was cold by the time I got to it. My wife's crab starter was very tasty, by my deep-fried coat's cheese lacked any subtlety - just a golf ball of strong goat's cheese which was rather hard to eat (stuck to the roof of my mouth). This could be a much tastier dish, if a more gentle cheese was used. My pork chop however was excellent, and beautifully served. My wife's mackerel and seared vegetables was good too. A lovely bottle of wine, and a very friendly waitress. It was a pleasant night out, but without the WOW factor - I'm not sure we will be rushing back. Overall, a little pricey - if it hadn't been for the Menupoints Voucher, the meal would have been too expensive.

L'Ecrivain Restaurant
109a Lower Baggot Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Wonderful .. Fantastic .. Superb .. I'm running out of superlatives here, but I'm sure you get the idea. Everything about L'Ecrivain is just terrific. All of the staff who looked after us were so pleasant. The food looked so good that we didn't know whether to eat it or photograph it. It all tasted wonderful, with all sorts of flavours playing around the tongue - simply superb. Lovely glass of champagne to start, followed by a very reasonably priced wine. L'Ecrivain is top drawer, and is certainly not cheap - the bill is not for the faint-hearted. However, if you can save the pennies, this is a wonderful place for a special occasion. Probably the best meal we have ever eaten in Dublin. This is what they award Michelin Stars for !!

Millstone, A Dublin Restaurant
39 Dame Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Off to the Millstone on Saturday night, using a birthday present voucher from the kids. Great atmosphere on a Saturday night - downstairs was full and quite a buzz. First table we were shown to was right beside the kitchen, so we asked to be moved. Went upstairs where there was plenty of room. Service from a nice girl was very good - friendly and attentive. Then the food arrived, and a good night turned great !! My salmon and mackeral plate was very tasty, and very generous. Wife's fried mushrooms were also good, and we were very pleased with them. The two mains were also very good, with my fillet steak particularly good. Two desserts, and Irish coffees finished the meal off nicely. This place was recommended to us, and we would have to agree. Very good.

Dax Cafe Bar
23 Pembroke Street Upper, City Centre South, Dublin

Off to DAX Cafe Bar on Friday night, to use a promotional voucher which came our way. Great use of the voucher, as it brought us to their door, and on this experience we intend to be back ! Warm friendly welcome, and the menu options explained clearly to us. As it was a Friday night, there were plenty of customers, and a great atmosphere. Food was terrific - just love the idea of smaller portions of this and that. Everything we ate was to our liking, and the house wine was lovely. A great night out, and we intend to make a return visit.

il Divo Restaurant
2 Terenure Road East, (Above Comans), Rathgar, Dublin

Had a lovely night out on the Friday before Christmas, at Il Divo - one of our favourite local restaurants. A very warm welcome as usual, and the service was as good as ever. A good crowd in - plenty of couples and a larger party - and there was a buzz about the place. Decor and fitting out here are good - subdued lighting and soft furnishing give the place a cosy feel. Also, possibly the cleanest toilets in Dublin. We ate from a Christmas Special menu, and there was plenty to choose from. All was lovely - my smoked cheese starter was great, and my pork chops main were terrific. Accompanied by a glass of prosecco to start with (included in the set price) and a good bottle of wine and the whole meal (and the night) was great. Il Divo is highly recommended - we will continue to come here as the food, the service and the value for money are terrific.

TGI Friday (St Stephens Green )
St Stephens Green, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Another great night out at TGI Friday. Always a great place, with plenty of atmosphere. The last Saturday before Christmas was always going to be busy, but we didn't have to wait long, and we were dealt with courteously and efficiently. Service was up to the usual standard, and the food was great. Loaded potato skins to start, followed by the best burgers in town. Lovely bottle of wine (plenty of reasonably priced wines to choose from) and a rather spectacular coffee based cocktail. Well Done to TGI Friday - a winning formula, consistently delivered.

profile_review

Novo
Harry Street, St Stephens Green, Dublin

Went here because of a Menupoints Voucher - never been before, but looked forward to it because of the Westbury Hotel connection. Big disappointment ! Friday evening, and we were the only diners in the place. Absolutely no atmosphere. Waiting staff were helpful and friendly, but the food was poor. My goats cheese starter was very good, but wife's smoked salmon lacked flavour (tasteless was the word she used). Wife's sea bream was good, but I gave up on my steak after removing a mouthful of chewed meat - it was like chewing string ! Deserts were good, but the damage was done by then. A very nice bottle of wine, but the cheapest bottle available was just too expensive. Over-priced for indifferent food - definitely will not be back.

Roly Saul The Restaurant
The Mill House, Dundrum Town Centre, Dublin 14, Dundrum, Dublin

Wife works very hard on Christmas Day, so we like to have a good night out in the days following. Back to Roly Saul on a Wednesday evening, as we have been before, and enjoyed the experience. Once again, we had a lovely time, with food, service and atmosphere all contributing to a very good night out. Two glasses of Kir Royale to start, which I hadn't had before, but were very nice. Two starters of Black Pudding Boudin, which were delicious. Wife has a small appetite, so I finished hers as well as mine. Wife's Pheasant and my Venison were both terrific. Once again, we noted the wide selection of wines, many at very affordable prices. A cracking meal including Kir Royales and Wine came to € 125 (service included) - which I reckon is good value for the quality delivered. Roly Saul is still one of our favourites - definitely be back.

Fallon and Byrne
11-17 Exchequer Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Had a lovely meal here on the Saturday evening of a rugby weekend, so plenty of atmosphere with a party of french visitors beside us. Lots of couples as it was also St Valentine's weekend. Very friendly welcome at the door, and shown straight to our seats, despite being very busy. Smiles from all the staff all evening, so top marks for the service. Food was just great - oysters for the wife and smoked salmon to start. Everything on the plate tasted marvellous - each flavour distinct. Main courses equally good - I can't remember eating a better fillet steak. Portions judged just right - both plates wiped clean - well fed but not stuffed ! And every part tasting delicious. Bill including tip came to €130 for two three-course dinners with wine and sambucas. This compares well with other restaurants in town. However - the food was such good quality, I'd have to say that this was good value for what you get. Certainly will be back.

One Pico Restaurant
5-6 Molesworth Place, Schoolhouse Lane, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Had a lovely evening in One Pico the night before New Years Eve. Despite the water shortages, our meal was terrific, and no sign of any problem. Service was prompt, courteous, and attentive, without being too over-powering. Lovely smiles from the waitress in particular. Food was excellent, as it was on our two previous visits. Foie Gras Terrine was delightful, and mains and desserts were top class. Not a cheap restaurant, but good value for the quality of food on offer.Certainly one to visit again for a birthday or anniversary.

Cafe Topolis
37 Parliament Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Went to Cafe Topolis on Friday night with the wife. We've been coming here off and on for many years, and always enjoy it. Prawns in filo pastry to start, which we shared - crisp and tasty. Lovely pizzas to follow - thin crisp base, with tasty toppings. Not a scrap left on either plate. Nice bottle of wine, reasonably priced. Service friendly and attentive, as always. A great value night out. We'll be back !

Rolys Bistro
7 Ballsbridge Terrace, Dublin, Ballsbridge, Dublin

Went to Roly's on Saturday night for the wife's birthday. Because of the special occasion, we wanted a safe bet - and Roly's delivered as usual. Possibly the nicest dinner, and best night out, that we have had in ages. From the greeting at the door, to the way we were seated, followed by the attentive service, we were made to feel both welcome and appreciated. The set menu was moderately priced, considering the high quality of the food. The wife's Prawn Bisque was terrific, and my Asparagus Salad was wonderful - who says good food has to be complicated ?? Roast Chicken, and Fish and Chips were excellent, with nothing left on either plate. We don't usually go for dessert, but we did on Saturday, and they too were great. All in all a great night out - certainly one to recommend, and yes, we will be back !

Brambles Café Bistro
102-104 Terenure Road North, Terenure, Dublin

Visited Brambles recently on a Tuesday evening for a family birthday. Not very busy, but still a happy atmosphere. All ordered the burger, which was good honest food, tasty and filling. Mother in Law has a small appetite, and asked for a starter in place of a main - this was not a problem, and was dealt with politely and without fuss. Waiting staff were friendly and attentive. Not our first time here, and we will certainly be back. One of our regular Terenure haunts. Good value food, in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

Bellagio
92 Terenure Road North, Dublin 6W, Terenure, Dublin

Terrific night out in Bellagio on Valentine's Night. Very busy, and there was a great atmosphere. We have never been disappointed here, and we've been several times. Service was attentive and friendly. Stuffed olives to start with, followed by Scallops for the wife (very good) and Pate for me. Wife was very happy with her Lemon Sole, and my Pizza was great. A nice touch for Valentine's day - my pizza was delivered heart shaped, instead of the usual round shape ! A great night out, and very much enjoyed. Definitely be back.

Bijou Bistro & Wine
46/47 Highfield Road, Dublin 6, Rathgar, Dublin

Sunday lunch at Bijou was an absolute delight - from the very warm welcome, to the excellent food, and terrific service throughout. The staff here are really the friendliest you could meet in Dublin - other restaurants should take note, as this is how it should be done. Food as usual was excellent - chicken liver parfait to start with, and cured salmon. Mains were polenta and aubergine (very good), and delicious braised steak. Never had roasted bone marrow before, and I would have been nervous of it - but it was a terrific touch. Lovely desserts, and good coffee to finish. A lovely lazy Sunday lunch with family, in a terrific restaurant. Top venue - top value !!
