Avoca Handweavers restaurant
Kilmacanogue, Bray, Bray, Wicklow
Reviewed 25th September 2009 ( visited 19th September 2009 )I have visited Avoca on many occassions and I love it! Food is gorgeous, menu is regularly changed around, portions are huge, no dinner could be fit in after a lunch in avoca! service is good. Although prices seem high for a cafe, the food and service are so good its worth every penny. Comparing to many cafes in South Dublin, I dont think its much more expensive but quality is far superior to others. Coffee could be improved though. Always a firm favourite and definitely one I would recommend.
Canal Bank Cafe restaurant
146 Upper Leeson Street, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin, Area Code: Dublin 4
Reviewed 12th July 2009 ( visited 03rd July 2009 )nice restaurant would return. not expensive, food good and wine reasonably priced.
Pizzas n Cream
Albert Walk, Bray, Wicklow
We used to dine here alot many years ago (10+) then had a bad experience 5yrs ago. Decided to give it another shot this wkend and honestly had the nicest meal i have had in ages. Staff were very good, service was maybe a bit slow but it was very busy so thats fair enough & to be expected. Excellent value for money. We will definitely return :)
Fade Street Social - The GastroBar
4-6 Fade Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre South, Dublin
Food was good, although a tad expensive for the portion sizes & atmosphere was great. Waiteress wasnt the friendliest though & seemed fairly disinterested in being in work...would return if friends wanted to be probably wouldnt suggest it myself.
12 Quay Street, Galway City, Galway
Gorgeous food & wine would definitely return and recommend, great value too. It was a very busy night & my only (tiny) complaint was that we were forgotten about after main course & coffees took ages...but it wasnt a problem because the evening was so enjoyable and restaurant so nice!
The Port House Ibericos
5/6 Pembroke Cottage, Pembroke District, Dundrum Town Centre, Dublin 14, Dundrum, Dublin
Having heard so much about this restaurant, I had to see what all the fuss was about...and i cannot wait for my next visit!! The service was fantastic, friendly and helpful staff. The food excellent, plenty of choice. Great atmosphere & good wines on offer. Very reasonable too. 7 tapas, 1 bottle of wine & 2 coffees €55. A bit of a pain not being able to book a table but we fortunately only had a 20minute wait which wasn't bad considering it was a busy saturday night in dundrum. can definitely recommend and will absolutely be returning myself.
Mercy's @ The Carlton Abbey
Town Centre, Athy, Kildare
The restaurant itself is a bit thrown together decor wise, not a great atmosphere and quite small for a hotel restaurant. In saying that staff were very friendly and the menu had a good selection. The mussels were a great starter and the sauce was really tasty. Risotto main course equally yummy but quite heavy. Not a great wine list but reasonably priced. If i was staying in the hotel I would probably eat here but not for any other occasion.
Milano (Dun Laoghaire)
1 Harbour Square, Crofton Road, South Co. Dublin, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin
It took a lot of convincing to get me to Milanos in Dun Laoghaire, my experience of Milanos (Dundrum & city centre) was less than impressed. It was very busy bank holiday monday and initially my perception was how unattentive the staff were. It was a while standing at the door trying to catch someones eye before we were spoken to. Eventually after a few mins we got a table and from then on I cannot say a bad word. It has totally changed my opinion of the Milanos group. The staff were so friendly, especially the waiter looking after us, he was extremely chatty to our toddler, and looked after her with colours, paper and cup for her to drink from. The childrens menu is fabulous with plenty on. The pizzas we had were delicious, I suspect one of the other reviewers had a romana base and this is why they found the pizza to be thin and unfulfilling, we had classic bases and there was more than enough in the serving. The antipasti for starter was meant for 2 but we shared between 4 and there was enough to do so. Wine was good. Coffees also good, but for the service alone I would definitely return here. Far better for children than any other italian in Dun Laoghaire.
47 Ranelagh Village, Dublin 6, Ranelagh, Dublin
After many recommendations I ate for the first time in DDillingers last night and can absolutely see why it gets rave reviews. The staff were friendly & attentive without being overbearing. The menu covered all area and price ranges, main courses from €14 -€26. Food was definitely worth returning for, although the gambas starter was €12.50 so a little on the expensive side, it was so tasty & for that alone i'd return! Portions were plentiful. Don't miss Dillingers, its one worht a try!
Frango's World Cuisine
Level 3, Dundrum Town Centre, Sandyford Road, South Dublin, Dundrum, Dublin
The one and only positive point to Frangos is that for space its fantastic, especially with children, there is always a table free and the baby area with microwaves is so useful. On the downside, the service is dreadful, i have eaten here a few times, purely for the convenience as I have my children with me, the staff barely engage with customers. They are so busy chatting amongst themselves behind the counter you almost feel as if you are a burden placing an order. Also on more than one ocassion I have overhearrd them slagging customers off. The food is very hit and miss, I had a BLT last week and the filling was hard to find, I felt so robbed eating my lunch. The only enjoyable part weas the cup of coffee. After my last visit I have sworn never to return again, regardless of how well spaced it is or how handy with children. I cant stand rude staff, especially when I am handing over hard earned cash, and to top it off with a dreadful excuse for a sandwich, I'm done with Frangos.
Douglas & Kaldi Terrace Cafe and Restaurant
Level 2, Dundrum Town Centre, Dundrum, Dublin
I enjoy d&k for lunch and can definitely recommend as the food is good quality and not overpriced as it can be in some restaurants in dundrum town centre. the service can be a bit hit and miss though, staff are friendly but not particularly attentive and can sometimes fly by the table whilst you wait and wait to order! not ideal if in a hurry back to work. the ciabattas have plenty of filling and if ordering chips on the side its a big lunch for less than €10. i would recommend it, especially in summer as its nice to sit on the terrace.
L'Officina by Dunne & Crescenzi (Kildare)
Kildare Chic Outlet Shopping Village, Kildare, Kildare Town, Kildare
The problem with Kildare village is the lack of choice when it comes to food. L'officina is expensive and food is average. Foccacia @ €9.50, very oily, no side salad...bottled water €5.... The only way they cater for children is the public toilets with baby changing beside the restaurant. I wouldn't be rushing back to eat here. Service was fine, not amazing but not terrible either.
The Mill House
Lower Kilmacud Road, Stillorgan, Dublin
a couple of us dropped into the mill house enticed by the special offer 2 courses for 19.95 or 3 courses for 21.95. There were very few people in the pub and service was still slow but staff were friendly enough. We actually weren't keen on the special menu and found that there werent great choices so we ate off the regular menu, both having starters and main courses. which actually worked out the exact same price as the special so maybe they should revisit their pricing to make it more "special offer" and less "get them in the door and still make the same money". food was good standard for pub grub and while value was ok too, i think there are better pubs within the surrounding areas to eat in so i doubt i'd return.
7 Ballsbridge Terrace, Dublin, Ballsbridge, Dublin
I could not possibly credit Rolys with anything other than a perfect 5/5 on all counts. I have visited a few times, with groups, or with my husband for romantic meals. It is perfect for all ocassions. Service is attentive without being in your face, food is excellent, I can always recommend the beef. I look forward to my next visit.
8 South Anne Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
Gotham Cafe is one of my favourite restaurants in Dublin, so cheap and cheerful. Food is excellent, service can be a bit slow but its such good value that that can be overlooked. Always busy & in the few times i've eaten here i've always enjoyed my food.
Palmers - The Golden Ball
The Golden Ball, Kilternan, Dublin
Visited for dinner with husband and daughter today. Staff were friendly, efficient, and service was quick. Portions ample and great value. 2 mains, 1 pint, 1 soft drink and a kids meal for €32. Food was as good as any pub grub and I'd definitely return.
Luigi Malones Restaurant
5/6 Cecilia Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre, Temple Bar, Dublin
I have to disagree with other reviewers when they say Luigi Malones is expensive. I ate there with a large group at the weekend. I found the menu to be very extensive, and very reasonably priced. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was excellent and wine was good. Sure desserts may be expensive but this is a trend that we can say of most restaurants in Dublin. I quite happily settled for a starter and main course and left nicely satisfied and didn't feel as if I had paid over the odds.
TGI Friday (Dundrum)
Dundrum Town Centre, Dublin 14, Dundrum, Dublin
Had a meal in TGI last night and was pleasantly surprised. I generally dont like to eat here as the food has never been up to much standard but was convinced by friend to pop in for quick bite. Service was ok as always but food was better than I have had in here before. They are doing a deal, €15 for 2 courses. Food was good, although I wish they wouldn't put paper on plate under food, drives me mad and I reckon its just a space filler where they would be better off sticking a few extra fries. Where they lack value is in drinks...€4.90 for large bottled water (750ml) is outragious. But...in saying all that I would probably return if someone really wanted to go, I dont think I'd put it top of my list for dinner out. Its about time they offered special deals, the main menu is pricey for what you get.
The Stillorgan Orchard
1 The Hill, Stillorgan, Stillorgan, Dublin
Visited the Orchard for lunch today and was impressed. We ordered a BLT and toasted sandwich, both were lovely and good value. Staff seemed a little rushed but were polite and competent. The decor is lovely and the place was clean and smelled fresh. I would return if in the area and would recommend to anyone looking for somewhere pleasant and good value. Lunch menu has a wide range of options.
The Dining Room
35 Dawson Street, City Centre South, Dublin
I have just found my new favourite restaurant... visited Balzac on Saturday night and fell in love. The service was impeccable, no rushing between courses which can happen so often and we left feeling nicely full of good food and wine. I can't wait until i can visit again, if only just to have the grilled prawn starter. Seabass main course was delicious and the duck was apparently beautiful too. We had enjoyed starter and main so much we decided to skip the dessert and have a coffee, which is my only problem...it was like rocket fuel, i have never had such strong coffee, most people may love this but i would have preffered my americano not to taste like a double espresso! I will absolutely be returning and cannot wait until I do.
Carr's at the Park Avenue
Main Street, Thurles, Tipperary
Fairly average lunch in Rolys. Food was alright, i couldn't say it was up to Rolys dublin standard but service was fantastic and I would return because of this. maybe chef was having an off day when we visited. I love Rolys in dublin and was surprised to be served the standard of food we were in thurles.
Fishy Fishy Restaurant
Crowleys Quay, Kinsale, Kinsale, Cork
Had heard so much about Fishy Fishy and have to say it was all true! fantastic restaurant, staff were very friendly and most attentive. The food was beautiful and portions were perfect sized. The only downside I found was that they aren't particularly baby friendly. Nice for a treat.
Brambles Cafe - Dundrum
Level 2, Dundrum, Dublin
Expensive enough for a lunch but portions are big & I have always found staff friendly and helpful. Usually end up eating here if I am in Dundrum as find it consistently good. Would recommend Brambles.
Kilmacanogue, Bray, Bray, Wicklow
I have visited Avoca on many occassions and I love it!
Upper Kilmacud Road, Dundrum, Dublin
Lovely spot for lunch, very tasty food, and huge portions. Service with a smile! Baby/child friendly. I believe it is very busy at weekends but I was there with friends on a thursday and we got a table no problem. Nice place to stroll around after some food. Will definitely return.
Elephant & Castle
18/19 Temple Bar, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
If you like chicken wings a visit to this restaurant is a must!! we had booked a table but on arrival were told there was nothing in the book. it was an extremely busy saturday night and in fairness to the staff they sorted us out, we went for a drink and they called us 5 minutes later and said to come over in 10 mins, we got the best table in the house and had a great night. wings are to die for, hummous is lovely also & caesar salad very tasty. some of group ordered burgers and said they were good too. as a starter wings between 2 is plenty. not expensive either.
20 St. Patrick's Road, Dalkey, Dublin
appalling service, we waited 50 minutes for our food (after the wrong order appeared twice at the table). the waitress we were told was in charge on the day was the one to originally take our order told me (when i queried the delay after 45 mins, and twice brought incorrect to our table) that she had given the chef her order, if he didn't listen or get it right it wasn't her fault!!!! no apology!!!! she ignored us the entire time, buried herself in washing up and ran past our table anytime she had to leave the kitchen area. sandwiches range from €8 - €12 so Idlewilde is by no means cheap. I cant believe in these times that a management could be so rude and unprofessional. Customer service lessons would go a long way here. I will not be returning, nor would I recommend to anybody!!
Cafe Kylemore - Liffey Valley
Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, Liffey Valley, Dublin
good value for lunch in a clean spacious cafe, staff service was alright, could do with some smiling lessons! would return if in liffey valley as its nicer than sitting in open area.
Dublin Road, Trim, Trim, Meath
had a lovely lunch in the bar of knightsbrook, service was good, staff were friendly and efficient without being all over us. family friendly. food good, knightsbrook salad was tasty and filling and desserts are fabulous! not many to choose from but what was there was good. would return for food here. have also been here on busy sunday and found them more than accommodating and everything up to high standard.
Wrights Findlater Howth Restaurant
Findlater House, North Co. Dublin, Howth, Dublin
enjoyed an excellent lunch in wrights with four adults and 1 baby. have to disagree with previous poster, found them extremely baby friendly, they took buggy for me and stored it away, organised high chair, carried everything to table for me. staff were very friendly and helpful, food was delicious. can definitely recommend the mussels and the fish and chips. good value for money. will definitely return anytime im in howth.
Siam Thai (Dundrum)
Dundrum Town Centre, South Dublin, Dundrum, Dublin
fantastic atmosphere on a saturday night and service was good but unfortunately we were disappointed with the food, i have had better thai in dublin and doubt i would return.
The Burnaby Lounge Bar
Church Rd Greystones, Greystones, Wicklow
had lunch in burnaby on a quiet friday, service was good but was surprised to find that table and floor were filthy around our seats. good menu choice for lunch and paninis were okay. wouldn't rave about it but its alright for a quick lunch.
Mao Restaurant (Dun Laoghaire)
The Pavillion, South Co, Dublin, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin
great value lunch menu, starter and main for €12.95 also add a beer for €2 and/or coffee for €1. baby friendly restaurant, clean and modern, food tasty and presented well, staff efficient, would return/recommend. parking is free in pavillions for all customers at moment too which is added bonus!
The Crystal Bar @ The Beacon Hotel
Beacon Court, Sandyford, Dublin
lovely food, good service, can recommend the pad thai! have eaten in the restaurant and this was my first visit to the bar for food. menu is short enough but was nice for an informal evening, would definitely return.
Dundrum Town Centre, Dublin 14, Dundrum, Dublin
first time to try here but I'm a fan of their sister restaurant Chakra in Greystones. Ananda doesn't dissappoint, service is great, food amazing, best indian food i've ever had. can highly recommend tiger pran in black pepper with melon and avocado starter. tandoori murgh main course was lovely. there were 5 in our group and everyone had something different and everyone loved their dishes. looking forward to returning. if u like indian food you'll love ananda.
Milano (Grand Canal Harbour)
Grand Canal Square, Dublin 2, Grand Canal Dock, Dublin
small enough menu but cant go wrong in milano, food good as is service, very good value for money.
The Step Inn Lounge Restaurant
Enniskerry Road, Stepaside Village, Stepaside, Stepaside, Dublin
I am a big fan of The Step Inn. The staff are friendly and efficient. The food is always good. I understand what other reviewers say about prices but portions are always generous. Lunch menu is good value. It is far superior to other pubs in the surrounding areas in relation to food.
The Queens Bar & Steakroom
12 Castle Street, Dalkey, Dalkey, Dublin
very disappointed with this well known spot, food was okay but service was terrible, we were waiting 20 mins for someone to take our order and it wasn't busy - not even half full - waiteress seemed less than happy to be there, took a further 20 mins for soup and sandwiches to arrive, there are no baby changing facilities. would not recommend it.
118 Kilmacud Road Lower, Stillorgan, Dublin
definitely be returning here, 1st time to visit, service excellent, food great, typical pub grub, very reasonably priced. 2 starters, 2 mains, glass of wine and a coffee under €50. very family friendly also.
Canal Bank Cafe
146 Upper Leeson Street, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin
nice restaurant would return. not expensive, food good and wine reasonably priced.
