Stopped off in this welcoming pub with an open turf fire on the main road through Ballyvaughen. We had just completed a strenuous walk of the nearby Burren and friends had recommended the legendry house chowder here in the bar. All three of us availed of three bowels of the chowder which came with homemade soda bread. I have to say it was prob the best chowder any of us have ever tasted and was almost a meal in itself! Little pricey at €7.50 a pop but all the other food there looked very good as well

The Fern House Cafe at Avoca Kilmacanogue
Avoca, Kilmacanogue, Wicklow

Went for a long awaited breakfast here in the Fern House Avoca, had heard many good reports. Over the weekend you def need to book which is mad to think for breakfast but just shows how popular it is. The breakfast menu is very varied and carries plenty of choice. Considering the mega portions that value is reasonable as well, though the service charge of 10% bit annoying. Had the full irish breakfast and was one of the nicest have ever had, def will be back. All the staff were extremely friendly and professional as well.

Lobster Pot Restaurant
Galway Bay Hotel, The Promenade, Salthill, Galway

This is a very nice restaurant in the Galway Bay Hotel overlooking the sea and the burren. For a hotel restaurant the standard is very good and all the staff were among the most friendly I have come accross. The restaurant where we had dinner and breakfast is very spacious with extremely comfortable seating throughout, well worth a visit even if you are not staying in the hotel.

Royal Villa Chinese Restaurant (Salthill)
1st Floor, National Aquarium of Ireland, Salthill, Salthill, Galway

Visted here on a Friday night while on a weekend trip to Galway. The restaurant is set in a modern building on the first floor with panaromic views of the sea and over to the Burren. The staff were very friendly and made recommendations about which dishes to have etc. There is a good three course value offer for EUR 28.00 We ordered various dishes and then shared between us. There was also a good selection of international beers. For starters we shared Goats Cheese parcels which were delicious along with Spring Rolls. For mains it was a house tandori chicken curry, a green prawn curry and a sizzling duck dish. All were of a very high standard. For dessert then they stocked movenpick swiss ice cream which was delicious!

The Hen House
The Pavilions, South Dublin, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

Went here with a group of four pre a show in the nearby Pavilion Theatre on a busy Thursday evening Interior is very nice and the atmosphere in the restaurant is very good along with friendly staff. We all opted for the early bird two course option which offered good choice in mains and desserts and great value. Early bird is avail until 7.30pm. For mains I had the buttermilk battered homemade chicken dippers. These were attractively presented on a wooden board along with the hand cut fries and home-made coleslaw. My friends shared the Duck and a further chicken dish and all were excellent everyone had empty plates. Dessert we opted for the ice cream selection, a cheese cake of the day and a Chocolate brownie. Again all were very tasty, service was quick and attentive only a slight delay in the desserts but other than that would def recommend. Is worth booking in advance as will be very busy at weekends I’d imagine.

Fishy Fishy Restaurant
Crowleys Quay, Kinsale, Kinsale, Cork

Visited this well known restaurant with a group of four on a busy saturday evening in Kinsale. We all had Main courses and desserts, great choice of Seafood dishes available throughout. This is a very popular restaurant so booking for dinner is advisable especially during the summer months. For mains we had between us the legendry fish pie which was delicious, a Fish and Chips, a Vegetarian and haddock on a bed of root vegetable puree. For dessert they stock the amazing swiss Movenpick ice cream which is delicious. Fishy fishy is not cheap but the food is delicious. Only gripe was it came too quick, we had barley finished our bread and they were delivering the main course.

Bibi's Cafe
14b emorville avenue, South Circular, Dublin

Just back from lunch in this new restaurant in the heart of the liberties off the south circular road. Was impressed by some recent reviews in the media and online so made the trip. The cafe is nestled in a nice quiet residential street with outdoor seating for the summer. All the staff were very friendly and enthusiastic. Interior is quite small can accomodate only approx 14, so many people come in for take out coffee and food. Menus are handwritten daily which is also a nice touch. For main I had the Pizzette of Goats Cheese, Carmelised Red Onion finished with Rocket. There was way too much rocket on the dish and appeared to be undressed with a taste of salt from it. The goats cheese was nicely browned along with the mini pizza and carmelised onion was delicious. For dessert I opted for the Chocolate brownie again very nice prob a bit too rich as was very hard to cut through. Tea came with a portion of their home made peanut brownie which was nice touch. All in came to €17.45 which for lunch is too pricey.

The Blueberry Tea Room
Castle Street, The Diamond, Donegal Town, Donegal

Stopped off here on a wet Monday lunchtime at this busy eatery just off the diamond in Donegal Town. There was very good selection including a number of specials on the blackboard. The staff were very friendly including the owner/chef who went down to the tables to enquire with diners about their meals etc. For lunch we had the soup and sandwich special. The soup of the day was butternut squash and Chorizo which was very tasty. The chips served with the sandwich were a bit cold other than that was very nice. Good selection of cakes and desserts on view at the main counter which we didn’t avail of. Was also offered a refill of coffee. Overall nice and worth a stop bit overpriced for what you get though.

Jacksons Hotel
Main Street, Ballybofey, Donegal

Was in Ballyfofey with Friends on a Sunday Night in February when we went for dinner in the Bistro at Jacksons hotel in the town. This is a very large comfortable hotel which seems to have been upgraded over the last few years. There was extensive choice on the menu and the prices were very fair. For starters we had Chicken Wings, Soup and Garlic Mushrooms. Mains ranged from Steaks to the House Burger a Chicken Pasta and Lamb Shank. My friend said the lamb shank was delicious. For dessert then we finished off with Sherry Trifle and Profiteroles. There was an interesting selection though including a dessert based around carrageen moss. Service was extremely friendly and would have no difficulty in recommending. Was a bit slow in stages other than that no gripes!

The Winding Stair Restaurant
40 Lower Ormond Quay, Dublin 1 , City Centre North, Dublin

Was really looking forward to heading to this well loved Dublin institution for dinner for a number of months. Bookstore and cafe downstairs is very quirky and has a very good selection of new and old books. Restaurant upstairs layout very nice and old style and a good view out to the quays and the Halfpenny bridge. We went for pre theatre menu on a Busy friday evening before a show in town. When we arrived at 5.45pm we were the first diners but it wasnt long before the entire restaurant filled up. Service was very frienly and efficient throughout. Menu offer was €25 for two course so we opted for Mains and Desserts. Though there is a big gap in price between the a la carte and the early bird the offers for main course were quite restrictive, the options were Ray / Pork Chop / Vegetarian and Lamb Shank. An option might also to be to take an item or two from the a la carte and charge a supplement on the early bird so that diners have more choice. Food was ok nothing amazing, Portions relatively small and ordering sides would be advisable. Desserts were tasty again very basic had the lemon tart and came on a plate with no garnish what so ever! For the prices being charged the standard of food should have been better.

Millstone, A Dublin Restaurant
39 Dame Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Went for dinner with my girlfriend in this well-known Dublin Restaurant in Dame Street on a busy Wednesday evening pre-christmas. We availed of the three course for €23 option which was fair enough early bird during this busy time (though in in line with many restaurant you have to specifically request this menu it’s not automatically given reminds me of Ryanair’s opt out polices). We were told in advance that the table had to be back by 7.45pm. On arrival there was confusion over our booking as we waited for nearly five minutes while the manager moved another large table and didn’t even acknowledge us. Overall he was very unfriendly and the bulk of the staff appeared to be under huge pressure and directionless from him. Our waitress was extremely friendly though and rescued the situation from our abrupt start. In general the food was good nothing amazing for the cost, if we hadn’t availed of early bird would have been way overpriced. The starters of Portobello mushroom were nice, mains of venison stew and turkey roulade very tasty as well. Only gripe here was the portions were small so we had to order extra sides on the spot. The accompanying buttered Brussels sprouts with the turkey roulade was unfortunately of the singular variety which was disappointing. We had a long wait between starter and main course nearly fifty minutes which was way too long, though in fairness our waitress continually apologised. After our mains were cleared the desserts were dispatched within about three minutes as they clearly wanted the table back in spite of delaying us. Dessert choice was restricted to Chocolate Profiterole or Apple tart which was ok. Would probably give it another go at a quieter time but def could improve their management and customer care.

FIRE Restaurant and Lounge
Mansion House, Dawson Street, Dublin 2, Dawson Street, Dublin

Work christmas lunch was on here on the Monday of Christmas Week. Hadnt been here before so was looking forward as people speak highly of Fire as a venue for dinner. The room is very nice and the atmosphere good in the venue which is adjoining the Mansion House. We all opted for the set €32.50 Christmas Lunch which offered good choice and as we were a group was subject to 10% service charge on top. In line with every Dublin City Centre Restaurant in the month of December this as a christmas offering was over priced. For Starters I had the Goats Cheese Bruschetta, Main course the Turkey Roulade with Mash Sausage Meat and Brussels sprouts, finishing off then with the zesty lemon tart. Food was OK and only that, portions small service was sluggish enough wasnt over enamoured with the food so not sure would go back. For a large group service was a bit sloppy at the start they gave us one small plate of bread, no bread plates we had to ask for these and the same with the tea and coffee after no milk jugs on the table. If you are going to charge thirty bucks plus for lunch you need to get the basics right.

Burritos & Blues
2 Wexford Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre South, Dublin

Went for lunchtime take out buritto in this popular camden street Mexican. Had the chicken other options included steak and mince beef, tasted OK nothing special and a bit pricey at 6.45. Doesnt seem to be any reductions for take out or specials prob wouldnt go back as there are nicer places in town with more menu choice etc.

Honest To Goodness
25 Market Arcade, Georges Street, City Centre South, Dublin

Very tasty spot for take out sandwich or lunch special in the popular Georges Street Arcade. Gets very busy so a good idea to get there before the lunchtime rush, great choice of specials each day.

The Maigue Restaurant @ Dunraven Arms Hotel
Dunraven Arms Hotel, Adare, Adare, Limerick

Had dinner here on a Friday night in this fantastic Adare hotel. Really nice old style dining room with excellent and professional service. Meat carved in the middle of the restaurant which is a nice touch as well. Three course dinner for one was €30. Food was excellent, only minor issues portions on the small side and dont agree with compulsory Service charge on all F&B in the hotel but other than that a real gem and well worth the stop!

profile_review

The Wild Geese
Rose Cottage, Adare, Adare, Limerick

Went for a birthday dinner on a sat night in november to this highly recommended restaurant in Adare. Really nice from the outside as is located in a traditional thatched cottage. Two choices for dining the better value early bird set menu and the a la carte option as well. A La Carte is pricey, up to 8.50 for dessert which is too expensive. Most mains ranged 28-32. Very good choice overall and the food was delicious. Only gripe was there were a number of dishes where sweet potatoe was the main ingredient could do with a bit of variety. We had cod and the seafood selection for dinner which didnt dissapoint, service very friendly though took a while for our mains and desserts to be cleared. Would head back again though and have no problem in recommending.

Fernhill Restaurant
Fernhill House Hotel, Clonakilty, Cork

This is the best sunday lunch around, we ate in the bright and airy dining room. Euro 28 for three courses food was excellent and service very friendly. Hadnt been at this hotel in years and looks like they have really invested in upgrading the interior and gardens etc.

profile_review

Blue Geranium Café
Hosfords Geraniums and Garden Centre, Cappa, Enniskean, Cork

Stopped off here on the N71 main road between Bandon and Clonakilty. Great selection of lunch including hot dishes of Bacon and Cabbage, Beef stew etc. Great selection of salads quiches etc and the desserts were excellent. Reminds me a bit of the avoca offer in Wicklow and Dublin, nice selection of local art displayed as well. Best spot for lunch in the area, only gripe would be the portions are smallish you have to ask for more of everything. Def worth a stop though.

profile_review

Guinea Pig
17 Railway Road, South Co. Dublin, Dalkey, Dublin

Visited this well-known Dalkey restaurant with a group on Saturday night last availing of the good value early bird offer. Overall the food was very good, plain in some areas but perfectly cooked and executed. Menu is old style and interior quaint. The service was excellent and attentive throughout. Nice touch that the chef / proprietor comes out after service to meet his customers and the desserts are offered on a tray for you to choose! Def would go back only gripes are, without the early bird or any other offers it is overpriced. Wine prices were very dear also and don’t agree with compulsory service charge other than that great place!

Hardy's Bar & Bistro @ Royal Marine Hotel
Royal Marine Hotel & Spa, Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

Went for a family lunch on Bank Holiday monday to this popular hotel in Dun Laoghaire. First impressions via the Underground car park werent great, rubbish on the floor and floors that could do with mopping. Never the less the lobby and public areas are very smart. Went to Hardys bar for lunch around 2pm them there were four of us. Food was OK nothing special, the dish of the day beef pie was nice but very small portion. Service was apalling, took close on an hour for our main courses. Similar story with dessert the assiete was very poor total rip off at €5.80 took nearly forty mins when ordered! Wouldnt go back again, maybe for a coffee but not to eat unless you have a spare day you can take off!

Gourmet Food Parlour Dun Laoghaire
7 Cumberland Street, Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

Popped in on a saturday morning for two late breakffasts in this new and sytlish restaurant in Dun Laoghaire. Exterior looks very attractive, however inside we were seated at the back which was very dark and near the busy corridor to the kitchen. Food was excellent and really impressed with the menu, good choice of cakes and coffees as well. Falls down though in the service, on the morning in question there were four people serving yet we had to wait for ages and the service did seem a bit chaotic. If this could be ironed out would def we worth another shot.

profile_review

Giddy Goose Cafe
138-139 Lower George's Street, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

Went on a busy saturday morning for a late breakfast, interior very nice and staff extremely friendly. Food was very good had two full Irish breakfast and the choice on the menu was very detailed as well, would def recommend good value and a short walk to the harbour after to work off the excesses!

profile_review

The Leopardstown Inn
Brewery Road, Stillorgan, Dublin

Went here with a group of friends for evening bar food on a Wet Thursday evening. Interior very nice and comfortable and had to have a look at the famous revolving bar as well. Unfortunately the food offer is dreadful though and very over priced. Between us we had a Beef Burger, Chicken on Foccacia and Pasta Disk of Penne Arbiatta. Nobody was happy with their main courses and desserts were even worse. Selection of three scoops of ice cream came squashed into a tiny metallic bowel! Definitely a good place for few pints but skip the food here.

The Pig and Heifer (Pearse st)
151 Pearse st, City Centre South, Dublin

Went to meet a friend for a quick lunch on a Tuesday, great selection of New York Deli still sandwiches on a variety of different breads. Went for the new New York type Reuben which was Pastrami Gherkin Cream Cheese etc, came with some cold salad pasta noodles. Friendly staff but very busy for lunch so come early to get a table, think there are a few other outlets around town as well

The Old Fort Restaurant
Shannonbridge Fortifications, Shannonbridge, Offaly

While on a cruising holiday on the river Shannon stopped off at this impressive Restaurant overlooking Shannonbridge in Co Offaly. The restaurant itself is actually on the Roscommon side of the river in an old fort that has been restored very sympathetically by the hard working owners. The restaurant and bar is split on two levels, we had a look upstairs and the upstairs seems to be used for large banquets or parties in the off season. Downstairs was busy as it was a Saturday night. Most diners opt for the value menu of two courses for €20 or three for €25 as the a la carte on its own is quiet expensive. For example sirloin steak is just under €30 and only three main course choices are available. All in all the food was delicious though, for main courses there were three of us dining and we opted for the Fish of the day which was Hake, a Sirloin Steak and the Spare Ribs. All were excellent as was the accompanying baby potatoes and veg. Staff are all very friendly and attentive as well. Only gripes the ice cream for dessert was a bit basic and didn’t taste homemade as advertised. A little bit more flair in the area of desserts and presentation of them would have made an overall perfect meal. Good choices of wine as well although one of my diners did comment that the wine list was pricey as well. All in all though a great place to stop well worth the diversion and a gem in Shannonbridge.

The Derg Inn
Terryglass, Nenagh, Tipperary

Was looking forward to visiting this well known restaurant near Lough Derg while finishing up a cruising holiday on the river shannon. Terryglass is a really nice little village just off the lake with a good choice of bars and restaurants. We opted for the Derg inn as the menus looked the best and there were a lot of awards on display outside. Interior is very nice and comfortable and the staff friendly and attentive as well. We opted for three main courses, two had the scampi basket with chips and one the southern fried chicken with mash. Food was a bit basic for the prices charges, the mash was very runny and luke warm. The scampi had way too much batter. Not sure would go back as there are other restaurants on offer in the village as well which I would try the next time.

Flynns Bar and Restaurant
Banagher, Banagher, Offaly

Excellent find in the heart of Banagher. Stopped off for well deserved dinner while on a cruising holiday recently on a busy Friday night. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. The bar is very comfortable and the menu for dinner has huge choice, we opted for Fajitas, Lamb Shank and the Homemade burger. Everyone was delighted with their food, reaonable wine list was also available along with homemade triffle for dessert which is an old time favourite. Will def be back well worth the diversion!

Little Caesars (Harcourt Street)
The Harcourt Hotel, 59 Harcourt Street, City Centre South, Dublin

Had a quick dinner in this Italian restaurant part of a chain in Harcourt Street Dublin on a Thursday evening. Great value early bird three course available for EUR 12.95 per person though with a pretty limited choice which is fair enough. Popular venue for pizzas and pastas etc and all reasonably priced. Service was quick and friendly, I opted for the Pasta Ariabetta which was basic enough and prob not worth the 10 Euro. Would prob not go back as there is a lot better choice in this space of Italian Restaurant in town

profile_review

Harrys Cafe Bar
21 Upper George's Street, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

Visited this popular spot opposite the shopping centre on Dun Laoghaire’s Georges Street for a spot of breakfast on a nice Saturday morning. Restaurant was nearly full which was a good sign, there is a very nice selection of breakfast and brunch items so plenty of choice of eggs pancakes etc. I opted for the full Irish and my girlfriend had the scrambled egg on toast. Both were very fine, only gripe was the cost at EUR 18.00 for the two of us this is too much for breakfast. Can get similar offer and nicer further down Georges Street for about EUR 5 less. The owner at the till when paying appeared to be very gruff with staff and customers as well.

Seagrass of Portobello Bridge
30 South Richmond Street, Dublin 8, Portobello, Dublin

Heard good reviews about this restaurant near the Grand Canal at Portobello in Dublin 8, so was looking forward to give it a try. Headed up on a Friday lunchtime when the restaurant seemed about half full. Main courses all great value at EUR 10 and the range included baked chicken, Goats cheese tart, Smoked Haddock and what I actually ended up going for was the Penne Dish with Peppers Tomatoes and Roasted Sausages. Tasted delicious and was served with a basil pesto on top, although I didn’t have a starter was given a generous portion of bread to also start with. Service was extremely friendly and attentive, would definitely recommend a trip though not sure what the dinner offer is like.

profile_review

Lennox Cafe and Bistro
31 Lennox Street, City Centre South, Dublin

Excellent little restaurant for lunch off the beaten track around the corner from Camden Street, visited on a busy wednesday phone ahead would be the recommendation. We just about got a table as they have an upstairs area as well. I had the parma ham salad with brown bread which was delicious and very generous portion my colleague opted for the burger which again was very good and came with homemade hand cut chips and onion rings. Top notch food and service def will be back!

Gourmet Burger Kitchen - GBK (South William Street)
14 South William Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Went for a quick early evening bite here with a Friend on a Quiet Tuesday evening in town. Very nice restaurant inside and comfortable seating good atmosphere etc. Staff were brilliant and very friendly. We both had the special of 9.99 Euro for Burger Fries and a drink. There was a 2 Euro supplement for alcoholic drinks, they have a good selection of New Zealand beer as well. I had the cheese burger which was very tasty, came with a very decent size portion of fries topped with sea salt and thyme. My friend had the classic burger which was similarly very good, def would head back and a good few restaurants around the city as well as think they are a chain.

Saagar Indian Restaurant
16 Harcourt Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre South, Dublin

Went to this well known Indian Restaurant with a work lunch function last Friday. Everyone was on the Credit Crunch menu of €9.55 for starter and main course which is great value. Interior and atmosphere is nice, staff were very attentive and friendly. Starters impressed and ranged from Vegetable Samosas to Onion Bhajhs etc. Good sized portions for both starters and main courses. Mains of Chicken Korma and Vindaloo with at least five options per course and available as spicy or as mild as required. Main courses a little disappointing, food not overly warm and dishes seemed basic enough.

Wagamama Dundrum
Unit G1, Building 12, Pembroke District, Dundrum Town Centre, Dublin 14, Dundrum, Dublin

Visited this new restaurant in Dundrum on a Tuesday evening, very similar to Stephens Green interior wise. Ordered a tasty chicken katsu curry with rice and salad, very tasty. Washed down by a thai beer which was also very refreshing. All the staff were extremely frienly and efficient. Very nice restaurant, and a welcome addition to Dundrum will be back!

Ryan's & F.X. Buckley Steakhouse Parkgate Street
28 Parkgate Street, Dublin 8, City Centre South, Dublin

Went for a group lunch in this popular restaurant over Ryans bar in Parkgate street near Heuston Station. Attractive menu for lunch including the well known Steak Sandwich, BLT, Chicken dishes and a Fish and Chips. Food was pretty basic for the money charged, no garnish with any of the dishes. Everything seems to come with Chips which is grand but would be nice to have a few healthier options as well like salads. Staff friendly though the restaurant upstairs is a bit poky. Many in the group complained that the batter with the fish and chips was very greasy, not sure I d rush back many much nice options avail in the area for around the same money.

Bobo's Gourmet Burgers (Wexford St)
22 Wexford Street (Beside Whelans), Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Visited this popular Dublin eatery on a quiet Thursday evening around 6pm. Was looking for some quick and tasty food and was attracted by the attractive menu and exterior. Had heard friends mention Bobo’s before but had never got around to visiting. Good choice of all different type of Burgers on the menu, including Lamb and Chicken options as well. Went for the special Cheese Burger with accompanying Chunky Fries and a soft drink for €9.99 which was good value. Chips were nothing special disappointing really, and the burger was only ok. Huge amount of lettuce flavour was basic enough. Was disappointed overall considering the appearance, menus and the ‘Good Food’ Ireland signage. Toilets were very dirty as well. Don’t think would go back as there are a lot more gourmet burger type restaurants in the capital which do a much better job.

Reeds @ Ferrycarrig Hotel
Ferrycarrig Bridge, Wexford, Wexford Town, Wexford

Stopped off for evening bar food at this popular Wexford Hotel beautifully situated overlooking the Slaney estuary on the road back to Dublin. The bar and restaurant are on the ground floor when you enter the building. Bar was very noisy with kids etc so we asked to eat outside on the terrace to be told that they weren’t serving food there. Luckily there was a much quieter adults only snug adjoining the main bar, were we eat some really good bar food. Very nice choice on the menu and good value as well. Options include main joint of the day, burgers, duck steak sandwiches etc. Staff and service were very good would def recommend. Hotel is starting to look a bit dated in areas but still can’t beat the location!

The Yard Restaurant
3 Lower George Street, Wexford Town, Wexford

Visited this popular and lively Wexford evening dining spot on a busy Saturday in August. There are generally two sittings so we opted for the 8.30pm slot. Very nice table and interior, good lively atmosphere prob not a venue for peace and quiet or first date! We had two main courses and two desserts. All the options on the menu are very reasonably priced and the service was extremely friendly throughout. My girlfriend had a really nice dish of monkfish wrapped in ham on a bed of risotto. I didn’t score as well with the Slaney rump of lamp on a bed of Garlic Roasties and ratatouille. The Ratatouille was stone cold, and the potatoes were basic enough. Lamb and the sauce were very tasty. Accompanying chips and veg were delicious. For desserts we had a strawberry sundae and a chocolate cake with cola flavour. Both very nice except the cake was massive and the strawberry dessert very small so a bit disproportionate. Other than that nice restaurant just a few glitches with the food. Good mix of couples and groups as diners as well and enjoys a central location.

Greenbarn Cafe Bistro
Inchiquin, Killeagh, Youghal, Cork

Visited this popular restaurant for lunch on a busy Saturday afternoon. The restaurant and adjoining garden centre are just off the main Waterford Cork Road before the Youghal Bypass. Very good selection of food and offer. We both went with the roast of the day which was beef. Vegetables were perfectly cooked along with the accompanying mash. Prob a bit too much gravy over the meat for my liking but tasty none the less. Service was extremely quick and friendly. Only negatives there was a lot of food debris on the floor from what must have been a busy service and the toilets could have done with a bit more attention. Otherwise a great place to stop on this busy road at any time of the day, looking forward to going back again.

Courtyard Restaurant @ Summerhill House
Enniskerry, Enniskerry, Wicklow

Very nice hotel country house style near the Powerscourt Estate in Co. Wicklow just outside Dublin. Hotel looks to be a popular venue for weddings. Just had barfood there, menu had good choices. Food was basic enough. Decor inside main building in bar and restaurant is a bit dated. Newer spa area and banqueting area look much newer. Not sure I would rush back there again.

The Poachers Inn Bar & Restaurant
Clonakilty Road, Bandon, Bandon, Cork

Visited here on a busy monday evening. Restaurant is closed during the week but bar is very cosy and comfortable for eating. We all (4) had the early bird menu which at EUR 24 per person is great value. Glad to see they have passed on the recent vat reduction as well. Mains range from their well known fish pie to fish and chips. Food is delicious and service very friendly as well def worth stopping off for on the way to West Cork!

Seaview House Hotel
Ballylickey, Bantry, Cork

Excellent restaurant at this small country house hotel just outside Bantry. Visited here on a busy Tuesday and we had the three course meal for EUR 40.00. Worth every penny the service and food is really excellent. Had Guinea Fowl and Veal as the main courses. All served in a bright comfortable conservatory extension. Definitely the best in the area and much cheaper than Blairs Cove. Staff are extremely friendly.

The Brasserie @ The Europe Hotel & Resort
The Europe Hotel & Resort, Fossa, Killarney, Killarney, Kerry

Sitting outside on the terrace here over looking the lake on a warm day in Hotel Europe is pure bliss. A very good selection of creative bar food all very well presented excellent staff throughout. Very nice walks around the gardens are also possible, nice pitstop on the ring of kerry just outside Killarney town. Only gripe is prices havent been revised downwards to take account of the recent vat reduction.

Packies
Henry Street, Kenmare, Kerry

Was looking forward to eating in this well known Kenmare restaurant for months. Has been booked out on previous visits to Kenmare as it is very popular particularly during the peak summer months. Food definitely impressed and service was very attentive as well. Main courses very much seafood focused due to the location. Great selection including a number of specials on the night, Monkfish, Seabass, Turbot, Cod, etc. We went for the Monkfish with a Ginger and Garlic crust and dip and the Turbot Special. Sides include Salad / Fries / Colcannon and a nice selection of roast baby veg. Desserts were very good as well we opted for the praline ice cream with chocolate sauce. Was a very impressive meal in a very nice restaurant and would recommend. Only gripes are as follows; prices are way too expensive 28 to 34 Euros for a main course is too much. We had a table from 6.30 to 8.30pm which they needed back which is fair enough, but no allowance for early diners through an early bird or cheaper menu. Finally it doesnt look like they have passed on the recent vat reductions again. If they could get their prices more reasonable would be perfect!

Zaytoon (Lower Camden Street)
44-55 Lower Camden Street, Dublin 2, Camden Street, Dublin

Visited this popular restaurant for the lunch special on a busy Friday. Very good choice on offer and value is great for Chicken Kebab chips and soft drink for €8.50. Portion size is very decent and food all seems to be very fresh etc. Staff arent that friendly though so dont expect much service wise, nice spot though and prob best Kebab in Dublin City.

Dunne And Crescenzi (Sandymount)
11 Seafort Avenue, Dublin 4, Sandymount, Dublin

Visited this well known and established restaurant in Sandymount last night not having been there for a few years. First thing I have noticed is they have seriously cut the prices compared to before. Very friendly staff food was excellent good selection of pastas and salads. Their desserts and Italian ice cream are top notch as well. Only gripe as previously is some of the tables are more or less on top of each other so not a first date venue unless you want to hear your fellow diners conversations! Beware also of the clampers as well on the street outside the restaurant as pay and display is required up until 12 midnight and not 7pm like some adjoining streets! several people were caught last night.

Padraigins Pizza
St. Patricks Quay, Bandon, Cork

Visited this very nice restaurant in Bandon which does very good Pizzas and Pastas located on the back quay parallel to the main street. Had the Clonakilty Black and White pudding pizza which was top notch and my companion had the speciality pizza. Again very good and great value, believe they off the same menu take away as well along with selling their pizzas in local stores as well.

Pacinos
18 Suffolk Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Visited this popular casual restaurant in Suffolk Street on a wet July evening in Dublin. Had the Italian Beef Burger as main course and my girlfriend had the Carbonara which she said was very nice and looked good. The burger was basic enough though not very tasty with an undressed side salad and skinny chips not fully cooked and half cold. Service very friendly though throughout. Desserts mediocre as well, we ordered one cheese cake and one strawberries and cream Beware if you have the O2 Treats 2 for 1 code as we did that you need to mention this at the start as it doesn’t apply to all main course choices. Not sure if I’d rush back as there are a lot of restaurants in this space in the city centre and food was basic enough.

Gotham South
4 Kilmacud Road Lower, Stillorgan, Dublin

Was looking forward to going to this south Dublin restaurant for ages following rave reviews from friends and colleagues over the last few months. Went yesterday evening with a group of five other friends. Monday is always a quiet night for restaurants so restuarant was about one third full. Overall was very dissapointed with Food Service and Price. Pizzas were basic enough very dry no tomato sauce base and generally not tasty at all. Starters and desserts were very basic for the prices charged, the chocolate brownie dessert was very dry. My friend found a hair in the onions that came with the bangers and mash. Service very poor as well, big gaps between people getting their main courses and then clearing haff the tables starters while others were still eating. For the basic enough food offer the prices are way too high, def not heading back and woulnt be able to recommend to friends to go either.

Bits and Pizzas
15 Patrick Street, Dun Laoghaire, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

Visited here on a quiet sunday evening with my girlfriend for dinner. Looked closed and run down from the outside. Once we got in though was a different story very friendly staff and nice spacious restuarant inside. There is a main menu and a value menu with good options. We opted for the garlic mushromos with cheese and the Garlic bread to start with as previous reviewers have stated was very tasy, for mains then the Sicillian Pizza was really top notch along with the BBQ Chicken Kentucky. Would def go back again and recommend not on the main st in Dun Laoighaire so wouldnt have known it was there were it not for menupages article.

C Central Bar @ The Camden Court Hotel
The Camden Court Hotel, Lower Camden Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Went to this popular lunchtime spot for carvery, very nice atmosphere in bar plenty of seating and very bright. Two main options for lunch the carvery area and a sandwich and soup counter. The carvery looked decent most options priced around the 10 Euro mark. Meat and veg all very good, the only complaint was the mash was horrible. Way too much butter in it and yellow in colour as opposed to white, other than that decent enough spot for lunch though there are a few places on harcourt st much cheaper and with carverys for 6/7 euro.

Ashford House on the Weir Gastro Pub
Ashford House, Ashford, Wicklow

Visited this recently refurbished well known Wicklow inn for Sunday Lunch with family, Interior decor is a bit drab all ceilings and wall painted a shade of grey. Good choice on the menu for sunday lunch, starters a bit pricey at 8-10 Euro Mains all around the 15-20 mark. Starters of Deep Fried Brie and Crab impressed. Roast beef main course wasnt great and didnt look fresh. Desserts nice, service good at start but then a very long delay for dessert. Nice restaurant with a few tweaks could go a long way, prices need to come down a bit as well for Sunday lunch offer.

Boulevard Cafe
27 Exchequer Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre South, Dublin

This is a very good restaurant casual in heart of town. The food is super and always good value, seafood expecially. Desserts are great as well and all the staff very friendly. Can get very busy at weekends though so book well in advance ideal for early bird or pre theatre venue.

Deasy's Harbour Bar & Seafood Restaurant
Ring Village, Clonakilty, Clonakilty, Cork

We were here with a large group of 11 for a family birthday celebration for Sunday Lunch. Very nice location and atmosphere just on Ring harbour near Clonakilty. Food was super great choice of seafood including a Monkfish Risotto which was among best ever tasted. Service not great though and very very slow. Took three hours for lunch in total which is unbearable on the uncomfortable seating, and at EUR 32 per head is way overpriced. Would have to say though the food is worth trying if you can put up with the down points

Christys Grill Bar
Blarney Woollen Mills Hotel. Blarney, Blarney, Cork

Part of the Blarney Woollen mills complex in cork, Christys bar and adjoining carvery restaurant. Bar food is basic and overpriced toilets filthy, not a good advertisement for the coach loads of tourists that arrive here daily. Carvery recently re jigged and although food is better the service and queueing was chaotic the day we were there.

Ouzos Bar and Grill Blackrock
Main Street, South Co. Dublin , Blackrock, Dublin

Very nice restaurant in Blackrock main street only recently opened, same options as in Dalkey very good seafood reasonable priced early birds etc. Good atmosphere upstairs and nice bar on ground floor for pre or post dinner drinks. Have a look at their site for regular specials and updates as we got a good discount being a tuesday night etc. Good to see a decent restaurant in Blackrock for once!

Juno's Cafe
26 Parkgate Street, Parkgate Street, Dublin

Very nice restaurant near Hueston on Parkgate St, great choice for lunch. Good selection of Sandwiches soups etc and very tasty fish cakes. Their homemade brown bread is superb as well. Only drawbacks are the tables are pretty much on top of each other and if you order a sandwich they tend to put LOADS of butter on it which is not to everyones taste even when you ask for without butter!

The Ivy @ Dunboyne Castle
Dunboyne Castle Hotel and Spa, Dunboyne, Dunboyne, Meath

Was here for a wedding and stayed overnight for june bank holday. Food at the banquet was very good. Service not great though not enough staff on and all seemed to be very junior. Fantastic location and grounds, the gardens are nicely kept. Breakfast the next morning was chaotic though sloppy service huge queues no butter for toast no one taking orders etc. Shame as very nice hotel otherwise with good food.

Innishannon on a warm day sitting outside in the garden with food and drink is one of the nicest locations in ireland over looking the river. Had a very tasty lunch here bar food and portions are great, they have added on a new bar as well behind though this doesnt share the nice fews. Only quibble is sometimes food is a bit pricey.

Very tasty food always great choice on the menu would recommend as one of the top asian restaurants in Dublin. Nice atmosphere as well. Starter portions were very generous compared to other restaurants like Siam Thai etc who charge similar prices. Selection of vegetables with all the curries brilliant as well, top marks.

Milano (Dun Laoghaire)
1 Harbour Square, Crofton Road, South Co. Dublin, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

Great location for this Milano in Dun Laoghaire on the seafront, went there recently with my girlfriend for dinner. Usual very nice food and service as in all the other outlets in town. The only thing though is they seem to have increased their prices a good bit. Would only go back if had a 2 for 1 or similar offer as was nearly 50 euro for 2 x Pizzas 1 x Dessert and 2 x drinks. Nice but not worth this much!

Brasserie Sixty6
66/67 Great South Georges Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre South, Dublin

Very Poor, overpriced food waiting an hour for starters. Staff were very unfriendly and second sitting at 9.15 were queuing for half an hour beside all the tables while everyone else on earlier sitting were still trying to finish their meal. Wouldn’t recommend.
