Delighted that the food is still of the excellent quality that we have come to expect from this restaurant. The service was, unfortunately, a bit hit and miss. Our pre-dinner drink glasses were left on the table even though empty. The food was served and our waiter scooted off before we could ask for sparkling water and wine.A manager who looked as if he did not want to be there wandered around and while he did ask if we were ok, he never smiled once. A pity as every other aspect of our visit was great!

BANG Restaurant & Bar
11 Merrion Row, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Food was excellent but portions a little on the small side! Background music was far too loud - not background! The waiter did lower the volume a bit when we asked. A very pleasant experience without being memorable

Indus Spice
2 Kilmacud Road, Lower Stillorgan, Stillorgan, Dublin

This was our third visit since the new owners took over. There were very few other diners which took a bit away from the atmosphere. Not sure why it was not more full as the food was excellent and the young girl who served us was extremely friendly. We opted for the "early bird" menu which is very reasonable with a good choice. We shall continue to eat there but would like others who read this to join us and improve the ambiance!

Dobbins Restaurant
15 Stephen Lane, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

This is our third visit in the last year and I am delighted to say that standards have not dropped.Even though we had a menupages voucher there was no feeling of being treated differently. The choice of food and the quality were excellent. We ended up sharing a dessert as starters and mains were more than adequate. Highly recommended!!

Rolys Bistro

Superlative as usual! The atmosphere is always buzzing, the food delicious and the staff attentive and friendly. We have been coming to Roly's for many years and are delighted that they have managed to keep the standard high for so long. Well done guys!!

Roast
10a Merrion Rd, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin

This place is a gem! My wife and I dined there on a Friday when every table was taken and some had second sittings - always a good sign. I started with the pork and prawns an unusual but excellent combination that worked brilliantly. My wife had the smoked haddock fish cake that she proclaimed very good - her only complaint was that it was a large helping that left her struggling a bit with the main course! The chargrilled pork chop was my main course and was full of flavour. Carol had the cod which she said was delicious. It seems nit picking to complain but there was a long wait for our starters after which there was no problem. Definitely we shall return.

Rolys Bistro
7 Ballsbridge Terrace, Dublin, Ballsbridge, Dublin

I had been to Rolys many times for lunch (excellent) but this was our first dinner. I had a Menupages voucher yet still got exactly the same service, choice and attention as if I were paying the full price. The ambience on a wet Friday was welcoming with numerous candles giving a romantic air to the dining room. I had the seafood platter to start and it was an explosion of tastes ! A wonderful way to start the meal. Deborah had the duck terrine which she pronounced gorgeous. For mains I had the roast Venison which came exactly as I requested it - rare. Deborah had the Cod and practically licked the plate clean. We had no room for desserts, so two coffees finished a great meal and experience.

Ashford Oriental
Main Street , Ashford , Ashford, Wicklow

My Son and I called in on a wet Thursday and were met with a warm welcome. The food was excellent and if I had a comment it would be that the starters - BBQ ribs and shredded chicken with chilli - were almost too large ! We both had the sweet and sour chicken which was excellent but the egg fried rice was only ok. Pancake with banana and ice cream for me and chocolate cake for my son were both very good and again quite large portions. Excellent value for money, good food, but go there hungry !!

Crown Of India
73 Main Street, Bray, Bray, Wicklow

My Wife and I shared the combination platter for starters and there was plenty to satisfy both of us. Her lamb Rogan Josh was just as she ordered it - medium spicy. I like a hotter Jalfrezi which was not on the menu, but the waiter said he would ask the chef to prepare it for me. That is service ! There were very few other diners there (Thursday evening) which is a pity because this restaurant deserves to do well offering as it does excellent food at reasonable prices.

JD's Steakhouse
4 Rathfarnham Road, Dublin 6W, Terenure, Dublin

Great atmosphere and the best steak I have had for a long time. Good value for money also. The only quibble is that the tables are small and crowded when there is cutlery, wine glasses, water glasses, wine bottle and water bottle all jostling for space! But this is a small point when everything else is so good. My wife and I enjoyed hugely!!

Aqua Restaurant
1 West Pier, Howth, Dublin 13, Howth, Dublin

A group of twelve visited Aqua on a recent Friday and were , in general, most impressed with our visit. We had various starters and main courses from the a la carte menu. The Prawn, crab meat and melon starter was beautifully presented but with only two prawns, a spoonful of crab and three small slices of melon , was very over-priced at Euro 14.95 ! The same complaint was echoed by those who had different starters. The main courses were excellent - steaks cooked exactly as ordered and the Dover Sole was melt in the mouth. One major complaint: no pre-dinner gin and tonics nor after dinner brandies. Aqua do not have a spirit licence! They said they are waiting for it to come through. Not good enough as they opened ten years ago. Otherwise a great night if a little over-priced.

Bon Appetit
9 James Terrace, Malahide, Dublin, Malahide, Dublin

My wife and I had a really great night here a few weeks ago. The atmosphere and service were first class. The waiter took time to explain the items on the menu and there were canapes, amuse bouche and sorbet among the listed courses so that , even though the helpings were on the small side, one did not leave feeling hungry. The wines were expensive but not frighteningly so. I was disappointed that having paid a lot of money for our 3 course set meal (60 euro each) I was charged an extra 5 euro for some potatoes! A venue for that special night out - but bring the credit card as it is not cheap!!

The Mill Steakhouse
Davitts Quay, Dungarvan, Waterford

This restaurant does not live up to the sum of its parts! On a wet Sunday evening we were looking for somewhere to eat in Dungarvan and saw the welcoming lights of the Mill across the square. A lovely old building, with the soft glow of lamps in the windows. There the good experience ended. The interior is long and narrow with no attempt to make in inviting. It badly needs a good interior designer to smarten it up. The waitress was both charming and helpful. The food also was good. If anything the helpings were too large. We got boiled potatoes, and a huge bowl of chips as well as a mound of vegetables. Prices for the food were a little on the high side but the wine list was very reasonable. If they change the decor we will definitely be back.

Seapoint Restaurant
4 The Crescent, Monkstown, Dublin, Monkstown, Dublin

Ok, we went for the early bird which may not be indicative of the full menu, but nevertheless we found it unexciting. We were shown to our table with bad grace by the Mistress'd (the female of Maitre'd?) but the waitresses who served us were lovely. The wine list was very dear compared to nearby restaurants. The atmosphere was good and the buzz of conversation enjoyable. The restaurant was about 3/4 full. If fuller, the wooden floors and lack of sound deadening may have raised the noise level to unacceptable levels. I can find nothing wrong with our visit but we both felt a sense of anti climax when we finished. Not somewhere we would rush back to.

Le Petit Cochon
Glasthule Road, Sandycove, Dublin

My wife and I have eaten here a number of times recently, both on our own and with friends. There is always a buzz of conversation that makes for a welcoming first impression. The food is excellent and the specials on the blackboard worth looking at. The portions are not huge but this suits us as we are not in the first flush of youth and heaped plates are a turn-off. This is a friendly inexpensive restaurant that is consistantly good.

Purple Ocean Restaurant
St Michael's Pier, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

Myself and my wife eat in the Purple Ocean every month. They have a loyalty card scheme that gives 10% off the bill - and that includes the wine! A great idea. Overall the food is very good but once in a while they seem to have a glitch in the kitchen and a dish can be decidedly second rate. Luckily doesn't happen often. The prices are very keen with the price of the main course determining the price of the meal. The staff are both friendly and good at their job. I am not so sure about the purple decor- it can appear cold; especially in the winter. Overall though we will continue to eat there for good food at reasonable prices.

Bistro One
3 Brighton Road, Foxrock Village, South Dublin, Foxrock, Dublin

Visited with a friend for her Birthday on a Thursday evening and every table occupied at some stage of the night. The food was, as usual, excellent. The standard of service first class. If I had a slight quibble, it would be that in these tougher times the prices are a little on the high side, especially for the starters which are quite small. Delicious, but small. This won't stop me going again but it will be for a special occasion.
