Restaurant Reviews from clarife
The Winter Garden Restaurant @ Red Cow Hotel
Red Cow Moran Hotel, Naas Road, Dublin 22, Clondalkin, Dublin, Area Code: Dublin 22
Reviewed 26th May 2007 ( visited 26th May 2007 )I have eaten here three times as I was attending a training course in the business centre. We had a set menu with around five options and I have to say I looked forward to the training just for the lunch! I had beef with the most beautiful roast potatoes; mash veg & red wine gravy, chicken the next day with the same sides, and beef again on the third day with a side of chips. It offered salmon, risotto, and a couple of other vegetarian dishes along with a few changes from the set menu every day. The food here is absolutely beautiful and I would drop in to eat again.
Brannigans Dundrum restaurant
Dundrum Town Centre Dundrum, Dundrum, Dublin, Area Code: Dublin 14
Reviewed 06th February 2007 ( visited 06th February 2007 )Myself and my boyfriend popped in before the cinema, and were seated quickly and our order was taken promptly. I want crazy about the food, the atmosphere was ok but I would say it would be great to go for a drink and watch some sports, as there are large TVs for screening big games.
Gourmet Food Parlour Swords
Unit 2 St Fintans, North Street, Swords, Swords, Dublin
Visited for the first time this week and cannot rave about this place enough! We ate off the Tapas menu. I had patatas bravas with alioli & chunky tomato which hit the spot, friend had goats cheese & fig salad which she raved about. The real revelation however was the slow roasted pork which we both got. two portions of pork that literally melted in the mouth, yet was almost crusty on the outside, served with two pieces of garlic potato gratin, apple sauce & the tastiest gravy/sauce I have ever had!! Have had the same dish as a main in other expensive restaurants and this blew it away - for €10!!! Cannot wait to go back for the daytime menu which seems really extensive.
Okra Green Howth
1 Island View, Harbour Road, Dublin 13, Howth, Dublin
Visited Okra for the first time last night and could not recommend the place highly enough. We had two starters, a shared main (as we weren't that hungry going in, but wanted to sample a few different things) and desert. On top of that, we had free poppodoms which came with mixed pickles, pineapple chutney & mango chutney before our food, and we were given a free tandoori chicken starter as we finished our food which was an added bonus - we left stuffed! The service was really amazing, without being annoying. Also, just to note that the menu they have is actually a lot bigger than that on their webstite or on menupages so there is an even larger selection. To start we had Makhni Aloo Tikka (potato cakes) which were really tasty, & with all the usual sauces around the plate which really adds flavour. We then had beef boti which was really delicately flavoured at first but has quite a bang in it. definitely a starter id get again. For the main we had a malai lamb yellow curry, with sweet naan. My partner thought this was the tastiest thing he'd every eaten! Quite creamy & the lamb just melted as you ate, again I would definitely try again. All of this plus 4 beers & home made ice cream came to just €59 between the two of us. Amazing value for such a high class of food - will definitely be back!
Carnegie Court Hotel, North Street, Swords, Swords, Dublin
Went for the early bird 10 days before christmas and the food was just beautiful. The service was a small bit slow because the restaurant was so packed, but the staff were extrememly attentive and polite. I got the vegetable soup which was delicious, but so filling that I only ate half the bowl to make room for my main. Friends also got the duck spring rolls and brie starter and everyone thought the food was top notch, The brie was apparently really good. Everybody on the table besides me and one other got steak and said it was beautiful, I got turkey and ham and it was cooked perfectly, but the best part of the main was the half new potatoes which were so simple but cooked perfectly. I was so stuffed I ate about two spoonfulls of banoffie for desert, but every bite was divine, I will definitely be back. All of this for 18.95, can't think of anywhere at this price with the food so good!
Howth Road, North Dublin, Clontarf, Dublin
I absolutely LOVE the nuthouse! I lived on their nuthouse salad with chicken and bacon for a about a year we went about three times a week for lunch. I rarely switched options but the bacon bagel is a must - Real bacon and so tasty! My friends got the cheese please and that looked really tasty too. The manager is a lovely lady and the staff are always incredibly friendly. The also do a mean breakfast!
Smyths Cock Tavern Swords
31 Main Street, Swords, Dublin
Have had some lovely meals in the Cock tavern on Swords main street. They do lovely Mexican food, I got the steak but everybody else had Mexican and it looked yum! The sides are really tasty and the chicken wings really hit the spot! You will always be satisfied no matter what you get - and you have so much options its great with a group - great location and old pub atmosphere too.
Swords Garden Chinese Restaurant
U 7 Castle Shopping CentreSwords, Swords, Dublin
I got a take away here for the first time the other day and it was delicious. really fresh, particularly for a take away. They give you the option to order meals without the usual chips or rice which I liked. Can't wait to go for a meal here!
369 Clontarf Road, Dublin 3, Clontarf, Dublin
Went here for Lunch yesterday & must say the food was beautiful. I had tomato & bean soup & although not as thick as I like, it was very tasty. My friend had the stuffed mushroom and I thought that looked much nicer. We both had chicken for the main course and it came on a bed of champ mash with asparagus & pea sauce (which was very tasty!) This came to around €14 each I think. The service is brilliant and I would definitely recommend for Lunch. I have never been for Dinner but although the food is beautiful the tables are very close together so it wouldn't be ideal for a romantic meal for two, although the view onto the sea is a nice touch! Would definitely recommend. Update: Since my first visit almost two years ago, Bay is easily my favourite place to eat. I am addicted to the sesame beef salad and love nothing more than a club salad with chips for brunch on a sunday after a walk along the coast. Great value for money - would also definitely recomment the pork belly - extremely tasty!
Malahide Road, Artane, Dublin
I work five minutes from the Goblet so I often drop in for Lunch. Downstairs you can get a lovely sandwich, bap or roll along with soup - they always have two options and they have one(I cant remember the name) that is like curry soup - beautiful! The brown bread that comes with the soup is also gorgeous. Upstairs is the restaurant and although I never ordered from the menu I often get a full dinner from the carvery. I was here during the week and had chicken with mash veg & pepper sauce & it really hit the spot! The gravy here is also really tasty. The staff are always really helpful and it has a great atmosphere - no wonder it’s always packed!

Top Floor Powerscourt Townhouse Centre, City Centre South, Dublin
I agree with the canteen feel opinion that people have mentioned because of how its laid out - and also about the comment somebody made about it being cold, although I wasn't well the day I was here and that could have been why I felt cold. I haven't been here in a long time but I had soup and brown bread and the bread was beautiful. I can't really comment on the vegetarian food as I haven't tried it but the soup and homemade brown bread has a really home kitchen taste
Clontarf Castle Hotel, Castle Avenue, North Dublin, Clontarf, Dublin
Although I only popped in here for Lunch I couldn’t resist the steak. The food was beautiful and a friend had gotten a sandwich with chips and was just as happy with hers. The restaurant was very relaxed and was quite busy so we waited a while but didn’t mind the selection was great and I will definitely be going back for an evening meal
1 Shantalla Road Beaumont, Beaumont, Dublin
Whether I drop in here for lunch or dinner in the evening the food is always beautiful. The lunch can be a tad expensive but there is a great selection for dinner & a great set menu. The pub is decorated lovely and has a real family atmosphere. A definite must for a nice meal & a drink
The Upper Deck duplicate
Harbour Road, Above the Waterside Pub, Howth, Dublin
Went to El Pasos with my boyfriend, and (although the heating was unbelievably high) I had some beautiful chicken wings for starters and a nice steak for main & to die for banoffi for desert!!!! :-) It has a nice atmosphere although it can be extremely busy and we had to wait in the bar (waiting room!) until our table was ready - a nice experience though with some beautiful food
Elephant & Castle
18/19 Temple Bar, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
I can’t say much about the price as I went for a work do, and was the only person to not order wings!!! Big mistake as they are delicious - I craved them for weeks afterwards and went out of my way to find them. I had ceaser salad to start which was nice and steak for main but if I returned I'd definitely go for the wings! Service leaves a lot to be desired and the wings are really the main attraction
Eddie Rockets (Swords)
Main StreetSwords, Swords, Dublin
I love the way all Eddie Rocket’s are decorated but hate how long it can sometimes take to be served - the burgers are a must if you don't mind getting a bit messy!
Thunder Road Cafe
Fleet Street, Dublin 2, Temple Bar, Dublin
I have been to Thunder Road loads of times, always with a gang - for birthdays mostly. It can be absolutely mental at the weekend but if you’re with a large crowd your probably being noisy yourself. The staff are very friendly, buffalo wings are a must to start with - I’m hungry just thinking about them. No matter what you go for you get what you pay for, the portions are large, and always enough to share around. Don’t go if your looking for a quiet romantic meal, but if your looking for somewhere with good food to start a night out - this is a must.
66/67 Great South Georges Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre South, Dublin
Went here for a night out with work, and had a great time. The food was beautiful and the menu was quite varied - if you call in advance you can order a roasted pig (medieval or what!!!) and I think it comes on the table with an apple in its mouth! The decor is nice, very relaxed & bistro-ey - would definitely go again, great to pop in for a bite before heading out on the town - but not very romantic. If I remember correctly (I was a bit tipsy) the toilets are very retro, I think they're unisex. My co-worker told me that the meatballs were lovely - the lamb also, lovely white wine too :-)
Spurs Family Restaurant
U42 Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, Liffey Valley, Liffey Valley, Dublin
I have been to spur quite a few times with my boyfriend before going to the cinema in Liffey Valley. The service, and atmosphere is lovely, and the food can be nice but I haven’t been overly crazy about the food, it can be a bit hit and miss. The burgers are absolutely huge, but the serve lovely side onions and chips and salad dressing (instead of mayo!) - so can be nice but I haven’t been crazy about it.
Airport Road, Cloghran, Dublin
Absolutely love the Coachman's, it has to be the best for a carvery on a Sunday around Dublin. The restaurant serves an early bird menu, which is fabulous (I think it is €17) and has something for everybody, includes starter (chicken wings are beautiful), main and desert. They have turkey and ham, chicken, pasta dishes, a curry dish, and a couple of other dishes to choose from. Great selection, definitely try out the early bird, but book in advance even just a couple of hours.
Kealys of Cloghran
Old Airport Road, (Off Airport Roundabout), North Dublin, Cloghran, Dublin
Have eaten here many times on a Sunday - can get really packed. Food is lovely - particularly the steak and pepper sauce. Has a great atmosphere and staff are really friendly - can be a tad expensive for a Sunday lunch when you can go to many other nice restaurants serving carvery nearby, but well worth the money.
Wongs of Clontarf
436 Clontarf Road, Dublin 3, Clontarf, Dublin
I can’t really comment on the food because I got a Thai curry that I did not like (but do not like anyway) but the starter was fabulous and the atmosphere is great because always packed and the staff are very friendly especially with children! Nice deserts also, chi chi chicken was nicest I tasted anywhere (from my brothers plate) A tad expensive, you would find as nice for cheaper, but a nice treat :-)
Golden Elephant Restaurant
Sutton Cross Shopping Centre, North Dublin, Sutton, Dublin
The first time I was here it was beautiful, the crispy chilli shredded beef is fabulous here! The second time wasn’t so great as we were the only people here and it was slightly cold. To take away from here is the nicest take away you can get, as it tastes exactly like it does from the restaurant.
Northwood Demense, North Dublin, Santry, Dublin
I went to the Mandalay two weeks ago as a last minute Sunday lunch with my boyfriend. We were surprised we had gotten a table as it is always booked up when I ring!! The atmosphere is lovely and the staff are really friendly! The food was beautiful as well and I will definitely be going back!
Eddie Rockets (Liffey Valley)
Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, West Dublin, Liffey Valley, Dublin
I love the theme of Eddie rockets and although this one has queues halfway thought the shopping centre you don’t be waiting long. The food can be hit or miss, its either beautiful or a real let down. The chicken tenders are beautiful, and although they are so big you can barely fit them in your mouth the chicken burgers are a nice meal in themselves!!! A nice bite to eat, and nice atmosphere :-)
Dundrum Town Centre Dundrum, Dundrum, Dublin
Myself and my boyfriend popped in before the cinema, and were seated quickly and our order was taken promptly. I want crazy about the food, the atmosphere was ok but I would say it would be great to go for a drink and watch some sports, as there are large TVs for screening big games.
Kudos Restaurant (IFSC)
Clarion Hotel Dublin, IFSC, City Centre North, Dublin
I went to the Kudos with my boyfriend for a romantic meal, and was a bit disappointed when I realised that it was laid out more like a café than a restaurant. Our waiter was lovely & I have to say the Thai food was beautiful. I ordered a chilli beef salad for starter & it was one of the nicest I have ever tastiest, & my boyfriend ordered Singapore noodles, which were also fabulous. I ordered a European main though which I regretted as the Thai seemed so nice. All in all I would recommend this restaurant for the food, for a casual meal but not for a romantic dinner.
Siam Thai (Malahide)
1 The Green, North Dublin, Malahide, Dublin
I have been to Siam Thai a number of times at the old location and thought it was a beautiful restaurant. I went about two weeks ago to the new location and although the food and service was lovely it just wasn't the same. If I were going for something to eat with the girls or a large gang of friends it would be perfect as the décor is fabulous & the room was buzzing with chatter & people & the singers are great, but it is just not as cosy or intimate as the old place. All in all a lovely restaurant with lovely food, I just loved the romantic feel of the old location.
ZAO Thai Restaurant
96B Omni Park Shopping Centre, Swords road , North Dublin, Santry, Dublin
I have been to Zao a good number of times as it is local, and have never looked back! We first went on Valentines night of last year and the atmosphere was very romantic. The staff are extremely friendly & often offer suggestions regarding the food. I absolutely love the salt and chilli chicken wings to start & there is a great choice for Mains. If I had any quibble it is that if the restaurant is not packed it can sometimes be a tad cold! A definite must and extremely reasonable!!!
