I have visited both Chez Max (the one by Dublin Castle and the one in Baggot Steet) several times and my experiences have always been fantastic. My last visit was as good as ever. From the starters section I chose Frog legs, one my favourite starters and they were sublime. Delicate flavor with a hint of garlic. My boyfriend went for the roast quail and loved it. As main I chose confit du canard. It was beautiful, perfectly cooked, full of flavours and the lentils really added to the dish. Boyfriend had the steak with lovely chips and a pepper sauce. Although full and satisfied we went for desserts...the chocolate cake and the lemon tart were both beautiful. All the above with some Gigondas. It was the perfect evening. I like the informal atmosphere and the deco and everytime I have an opportunity I end up here. I consider it good food without pretensions. Traditional French cuisine in a laid back environment.

Went for dinner last Friday. We had no reservation and the place was quite busy but threy accommodated us quite quickly. We both went for the Early Bird which is good value for money. I had the Coq au vin as a starter and having lived in France for a while it was not up to what I expected, but the flavours were there and the portion quite generous. Boyfriend had the chicken goujons and quite liked them. As mains, he went for the steak with fries which was perfectly cooked (medium rare) and came with the sauce on the side (as requested). I had the fish of the day Salmon...which was fresh and lovely. Nice garnish and once again generous size. Service was prompt and friendly.

Texas Steakout
116 O'Connell Street, Limerick City, Limerick

Never, ever again! Went for lunch yesterday with a group of friends. Menu was not expensive...but choices were really limited! No vegetarian options or salads... Went for the ham and mushroom vol au vent. Ham was horrible and tasteless...and the sauce seemed out of a tin. Very salty...vol au vent was undercooked...not a great start. Chose a chicken dish with bacon and tomato sauce. The presentation was terrible...the chicken was covered with some fatty bacon, a tomato sauce which which tasted sugary and some melted cheese. At least the broccoli from the vegetables side order was al dente! Not a single waiter came and checked on our meal at any stage... The only person who enjoyed the meal had ordered BBQ ribs...so I guess I will give them that! Not a memorable experience...at all.

No.27 The Shelbourne Bar
The Shelbourne Hotel, 27 St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

I had lunch here last Thursday. Although I love the deco and atmosphere at the Shelbourne thought there was no value for money at all. Paying €15 for a Chicken Caesar Salad I expected something at least, edible. Not soggy lettuce! And paying €13 for a glass of wine I would like to think you are going to receive good service. Not for me.

Yamamori Sushi, Tengu
38-39 Lower Ormond Quay, Dublin 1, City Centre North, Dublin

Went there for dinner last Saturday. I liked the atmosphere and deco...and we got a table in the patio which was lovely. We ordered a bottle of Riesling and a combination of Norimaki (eel with cucumber, salmon and crabfish with spicy mayonnaise). All of them were lovely and fish was extremely fresh. We also had the seafood tempura which was fantastic. Service through the night was very attentive but not disruptive. At the end we shared some green tea ice cream (my first) and I really liked it. Only thing I would fault is...nobody came back with the change so we left a hefty tip! The place was very busy and I will come back again!

Treyvaud's Restaurant
62 High Street, Killarney, Kerry

Very good service and food. Went last saturday. Australian waiter could not have been more helpful, efficient and friendly. Had the confit duck salad as a starter...expected more leaves and veggies but the duck leg was nicely presented and beautifully cooked. My main of lamb was sublime. Pitty I culd not finish it! Perfectly pink and with a gorgeous sauce. The fondant potato was juicy and full of flavour. I chose to have it with a side salad which was also lovely. Boyfriend had the stuffed mushrooms for starter and medium rare steak. All perfect. We shared a warm chocolate cake dessert. Good value for money. I certainly recommend it!

Camden Kitchen
3A Camden Market, Grantham Street, Dublin 2, Camden Street, Dublin

Loved it. Friendly and efficient staff. Charming atmosphere. Really liked the blue/white walls. Tables are quite closed to each other but a minor point in my books. I tried the baby squid with broad beans and cherry tomatoes and it was full of flavour. The sea bream for main course was beautiful...full of mediterranean taste! Argentinian manageress was very welcoming and loved the whole concept. Will return! Soon...I hope!

L'Officina by Dunne & Crescenzi (Kildare)
Kildare Chic Outlet Shopping Village, Kildare, Kildare Town, Kildare

Worst experience ever. Having spent a couple of hours shopping decided to have lunch here. I did not mind the queu at first, I understood they were working under pressure and we patiently waited for a free table while looking at the olive oils and balsamic vinegars on sale. Our waiter was not very friendly....wanted to take our order asap to keep on going. I ordered the Chicken Caesar Salad...After waiting for 25 minutes I received a bowl of brown lettuce and chicken....in fact, I did not touch it as I am very conscious of chicken.... Risotto for my friend was ok...although overpriced. When the waitress came to clear my plate at no point asked if my meal had been ok. I mentioned it to the floor manager who replied with an "ok". Never, never again. Needless to say I had to stop on the way home to have something edible to eat!

Harrys Kitchen Restaurant
22, Dawson Street, Dublin

Had dinner here yesterday with a friend. The place was quite busy when we arrived a full when we left. I liked the deco and all the bottles of wine on the walls and the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. Good selection of wine by the glass. Had a lovely Riesling @ €8 and my friend had a good quality Pinot Noir. Ordered the Organic Salmon with Prawn's mash and was very tasty, nice presentation and good portion. My friend had the Burger and she really enjoyed it. We did not have dessert but stayed in with a second glass of wine. Service was friendly and attentive. Will go back again.

Really nice! Nice atmosphere, good food & service. Busy enough but well worth the trip. Brie Salad with pumpkin seeds is beautiful and the duck with noodles was lovely too. Really enjoyed it. Will be back!

Hamptons Grill
Henry Street, Limerick City, Limerick

Went to The Hamptons with some relatives to celebrate mother's day. Despite being a large group found the service and food very good. The restaurant was quite busy but did not affect the attention we received from our server. I had the pate with brioche as a starter and it was delicious. Very nicely presented and great texture and falvour. As a main I ordered venison ravioli. They gave me different options as sauce and I went for some olive oil. Although the pasta was a bit undercooked for my liking I quite enjoyed. Desserts were quite nice although on the small size. Only thing is we had to ask the server to lower the music but then again we were just under a speaker. I really enjoyed it.

Pichet
14/15 Trinity Street, Dublin , City Centre South, Dublin

I enjoyed the food. Great presentation, good combination of flavours... but I found the service a bit cold. No interaction at all. The restaurant was very busy and I quite like the concept of open kitchens. The potato gnocchi with Mozarella and courgette was lovely and the Seabream with scallops was to die for. I will return. No doubt.

Dax Restaurant
23 Upper Pembroke Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Having visited this restaurant quite a while ago when the experience turned out into a disaster I decided to give it another go. I phoned to make a booking an requested a table at 8.30pm to be told they only had 9pm. When I said to forget it, the table at 8.30pm became available. When we arrived the room was lively although not all the tables were occupied...which made me wonder... I ordered the Terrine of pressed giuinea fowl. Although tasty, it broke down when I tried to cut it.The tuile was also overcooked to a brown color. My friend ordered the Foie gras which was lovely and well presented. As mains, I ordered the Pigeon with cabagge and bacon. The combination of flavours did not work for me, although the pigeon was perfectly pink I could not find any bacon bits at all. Service was prompt and professional but my whole food experience did not live to the good reviews I had seen or my expectations.

The Signal Restaurant at The Station House Hotel
Main Street, Near Navan, Near Trim, Kilmessan, Meath

Went there for Sunday lunch yesterday and I have to admit, it did not reach my expectations.... Waited for a copy of the menu and a couple of drinks a good 15 minutes... Found the deco and atmosphere rather stuffy and aged... Sunday Lunch seems good value for money at €19.95...but did not do it for me. Crab and potato cake was ok. Lacked seasoning for my taste and did not understand the marie rose sauce...but fair enough. My companion ordered the chicken and mushroom vol au vent which came decorated with little pieces of red and green pepper...strange twist to a classic. I did not get the whole decoration of the plates with something that looked like saffron either. Mains were average. My Salmon came with brie and red pepper coulis...the brie and coulis overpowered the delicate flavour of the salmon...and I found the whole combination odd at best. The salmon was perfectly cooked itself but the flavour was lost. Companion ordered the Pork...which was quite tasteless and did not look appetizing... The Baileys cheesecake for dessert was ok and the Chocolate mousse wasn't too special. Service was inconsistent...with not a waiter assigned to our table but several of them serving us. When they collected my main course (barely touched) they did not ask if there was a problem with it. In general a disappointing experience. Won't be back.

The Ivy @ Dunboyne Castle
Dunboyne Castle Hotel and Spa, Dunboyne, Dunboyne, Meath

We decided to book The Ivy Brasserie as we were staying in the hotel visiting some friends. When I tried to change our dinner time on arrival and was told, they were very sorry but could not accommodate me on this occasion because they were full….at the time I found it odd, but they really were! It has been a long time since I have gone into a restaurant so busy….the atmosphere was lively and the servers were all polite and helpful, although working under pressure! Our server, was very efficient and polite…and the restaurant manager was a joy to deal with…permanent smile! I don’t know how she does it! I ordered the seared smoked salmon which was tasty and nicely presented. The rest of starters were equally as nice…my fiancée had the rillette of pork and rabbit and is still raving about it! As main course I had the confit leg of duck with braised red cabbage, gratin potato and puy lentils. What can I say? I would go back just to have it again! The pan fried cod fillet, the parma ham wrapped chicken and the fillet of beef were all delicious. I had to skip dessert but the rest went for it and they all loved it. I will be back.
