I have eaten here 4 times and it is has been really enjoyable every time. The restaurant is very nicely decorated & lit with comfy chairs and a great atmosphere. The food is excellent. I had the homemade ministrone soup for starter which was like a meal in itself and for main course the fillet steak with chunky chips, crispy onion rings & veg. The portions are large and the presentation simple & attractive. There is a reasonably priced wine & champagne list and also a full bar service if you fancied something else instead. The service is excellent and the thing I really love is that the restaurant offers a courtesy bus service that will pick you up and drop you home! This is a real plus considering the location of the restaurant in a village with a very limited taxi service - (I'm not sure what the distance limit is though ). If I had to find fault with anything it would be the choice of live evening entertainment that starts around 10pm (weekends only I think). On our last visit the restaurant turned into a singalong cabaret which took away from the intimate dinner we had just enjoyed. Perhaps a piano player or just keeping on the background music would be more appropriate. It's still well worth a visit and I look forward to going back!

Ate here with a group last Fri night. Place was freezing and chair uncomfortable. The menu was pretty basic but being attached to the Brooklodge we thought we were in for something really nice. The food was very disappointing. There was only a choice of 2 pizzas, one with 2 chesses and the other with spring onion & sausage which is what I ordered. The smell of cheese was pungent and it wasn't Mozzarella even though the waiter tried to persude me it was the only cheese included. He added insult to injury after my friend who lives in France tasted a slice & confirmed Gorgonzola was heavily included. He continued to deny this & even went to the point of bringing me bowl of cheese from the kitchen to try & make his point! He didn't take the pizza away so I sat looking at it while the rest of my group picked at their main courses of pasta which they all agreed was bland with the exception of the butternut squash ravioli which was ok. The wine was lovely but overpriced at €30. We decided not to wait for dessert and left . It was a real let down especially as we had just arrived to stay at the Hotel for the weekend. We left hungry and pretty annoyed at the waiter's attitude. Would not recommend!

The Strawberry Tree-Brooklodge
The Brooklodge Hotel, Macreddin Village, Aughrim, Wicklow

I ate here on Sat 4th with a group of 5 friends. I have eaten here many times over the last 3 years and the meal was always one of the hightlights of our stay in Brooklodge.Unfortunatley I think the restaurant has gone down hill while it's prices have of course gone up hill. The menu is set at a price of €65 & the wines average €30 - €40 a bottle which is pretty expensive for what you get. I would have expected fillet steak on the menu but alas only sirloin (an additional €6). You would really want to be a fish lover to enjoy a meal here. Unfortunately, I am not so I had an unusual starter 'poached egg on asparagus drizzled with lemon juice' which was almost palatable. For main course 2 of us had the baked chicken breast on sliced aubergines which was basic to say the least. 2 of my goup had the 'pollock on mixed veg base' which one barely touched and the other ate to save drawing attention to her full plate of food when the waitress came over. Another friend had the duck which she really enjoyed. The desserts were nice and as most of our group had picked through the mains, we devoured the pecan tart and ice cream selection. Overall I think this restaurant has lost it's WOW factor. The menu needs to loose it's poetic discriptions & return to it's roots. 3 or 4 years ago this was a fantastic place to eat but sadly I won't be wasting my money here again.
