Restaurant Reviews from calero
Sabor Brazil restaurant
71a Camden Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin, Area Code:
Reviewed 25th October 2011 ( visited 16th October 2011 )This place is a hidden gem .... perfect for special occasions, romantic meal. The service is welcoming and efficient and you are made to feel like you are the only diners there - with 10 covers and interesting decor, it is very intimate indeed. The selection of dishes on offer is varied and good and there are nice little "surprises" from the chef - very nice touch. You will leave feeling well fed, enchanted and not too broke. Price reasonable for what yopu get. We need more restaurants like this in Dublin.
Elephant & Castle restaurant
18/19 Temple Bar, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin, Area Code: Dublin 2
Reviewed 31st January 2010 ( visited 12th December 2009 )An old favourite ... I go there for the chicken wings .. they are the best in town .. and huge portion so ideal to share as starter. Great atmosphere and always busy which is a bit of a pain because of the fact that a table can not be reserved so you may have to wait espewcially weekends when Temple Bar is so overwhelmed with visitors. The food is steady eddy consistent rather than special. Good friendly service. But not cheap.
Chez Max (Baggot Street)
133 Lower Baggot Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre South, Dublin
Been here 4 - 5 times for lunch. Efficient and friendly service .. mostly French staff. Interesting menu but a little limited at lunchtime (I've never been for dinner). The boeuf bourguignon and the sea bass are both good. The service is quick enough for a lunch. Coffee & dessert and the bill soon adds up to a little more than a lunch is worth. All in all, quite nice, but I find Chez Max in Palace St a little more charming.
Ryan's of Ratoath Bar & Restaurant
Main Street, Ratoath, Meath
Table for two ... we were sat at a cosy booth just off the main bar.Did not look at the menu - went straight for the special on the chalkboard - 2 sirloins and a bottle of wine for €50. Order taken and wine brought out efficiently. The steaks came quickly - mine medium and hers medium/well - both cooked to perfection. Very good steaks with fried onions, mushrooms and a little salad garnish. Then came a mountain of chips and jug of pepper sauce. Simple cooking and lots of it. Ideal place to meet for pre/post dinner in the traditional style pub.
Chez Max (Palace Street)

Pleased to get a late booking here for 6 on a very busy Saturday night in Dublin. Nice welcome and seated quickly - and efficient service taking orders and bringing a very nice, well priced bottle of red. We all went for 3 courses and there were no complaints form anyone ... onion soup was particularly good with the cheese and croutons on the side. Steak, duck, fish and french beef stew all very tasty. Pleasant relaxed atmosphere and good service and not too hard on the pocket. A charming little place.

The Olde Post Inn
Cloverhill, Cavan Town, Cavan
Table for two at short notice on Sat - sign of the times?? Well received and we opted for aperitifs in the front lounge & ordered there. We went for the set meal at €56 each - pricey enough for what we got. My starter was the special of the night - scallops. Would have liked more than 2 scallops and less of the puree. Partner had prawn duo which were delicious. A rocket leave salad and sorbet was served before mains.I had John Dory (the special) and it was a little tough, tasteless and dry. Partner really enjoyed her monkfish. Desserts were tasty and not too big!! Followed by lovely coffee. All washed down with an excellent Paulliac well worth €48. Nice old world atmosphere and solid service throughout. Enjoyable, but at €169 (excluding SC) I wont be rushing back.
Corballis Demesne, Ratoath, Meath
2 for quick lunch. Something about the seating/table layout that's not quite right, especially for a business lunch. Service was quick enough and the food came piping hot - lamb casserole was the lunch special and chowder for my friend. Both tasty and adequate portions. Limited menu and no home made brown bread. Looked tempting enough to crack open a bottle of the special offer spanish red ... but back to work !! Good parking.
The Chop House Gastro Pub
2 Shelbourne Road, City Centre South, Dublin
6 of us dined here earlier - as we wanted to watch a match on tv. Last minute decision. Lovely atmosphere and very efficient friendly service. Limited menu but something for every taste. Didn't bother with starters as it was late. The Beef Pies went down well and I really enjoyed the baked hake. Nice wine and all reasonably priced. This seems a nice local bar/restaurant with an owner hands on feel to it. Would visit again if in the area.
Okra Green Howth
1 Island View, Harbour Road, Dublin 13, Howth, Dublin
We arrived early and it looked like it would be a quiet night but it slowly filled up. Very friendly welcome, orders taken efficiently and food served very timely. Jumbo jingha prawns very good for starters and the deep fried cheese parcel dish so so. Mains were nice - lamb jalfresi which they spiced up a little for me. Overall pleasant enough but at over €100, I thought a bit pricey for Indian/Pakistani - which included wine @ €33. Overall pleasant enough but would not rush back especially as Howth is a haven of seafood restaurants which we both love. Food and service both good
Andersons Foodhall & Café
3 The Rise, Glasnevin, Glasnevin, Dublin
Pleasantly surprised they could take 3 of us at short notice on Mothers Day in this little hidden gem. Bread/olive/tapenade starter to share was good. Fish pie, chicken cajun wrap and my Platter of Ireland was all very good. Generous portions including the glass of red!!. Service a little slow but friendly and helpful. Wholesome food in nice simple surroundings. Excellent wine menu. Will return.
Millstone, A Dublin Restaurant
39 Dame Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
The Welsh were in town for Rugby - 4 of us were lucky to squeeze a table in this popular Dublin central restraurant. Friendly welcome and efficiently seated upstairs on the mezzanine - open fire downstairs and as heat rises, it was very hot indeed!! Excellent table service. Had beef skewers for starters and they were really nicely presented with lovely sauce -delicious. We ordered the sharing bread/olive dip dish - very good. Monk fish mains with chorizo also very good. Finished with tiramisu cheesecake! very creamy. Live music in the background added to a great atmosphere. Will return.
Copper & Spices Restaurant & Wine Bar
Ludlow Street, Navan, Meath
We have been back here a few times this year - they have really upped the ante. Special early bird offers, surprises from the chef (nice touch), well thought out menu and lovely food. Service good - they want you back. Keep it up Copper & Spice and you will come through this downturn. Navan has become a graveyard of failed restaurants .. shame.
The Russell Restaurant
15 Ludlow Street Navan, Navan, Meath
Probably the best Restaurant in Navan (great atmosphere) which is why you generally need to reserve well in advance. Extensive menu although some of the dishes are a little rich for my liking and on the expensive side, as are the wines. I had pork mains and it was nice enough and my other half enjoyed the fish dish. We shared a dessert - generous portion. Service reasonably efficient given how busy they were. However, they would need to reduce their prices by about 30% to tempt me back !!
Diwali Indian Restaurant
Unit 1, Castle House, South Great Georges Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
I love this restaurant. Genuine friendly welcome to this cheery restaurant - fresh clean interior. Went for the special set 25€ menu which was reasonable for Valentines. (Normally cheaper set deals) and a lovely Rioja for €22. Very pleasant and efficient service from the Nepalese staff. Set meal included good choice but if you dont find what you want they are happy to let you mix & match. Generous portions of starters, mains rice & naan dessert coffee & the complimentary sambuca went down very well indeed. The madras was not the normal indian style but absolutely delicious. Only criticism is the tables are slightly small. This Indian restaurant is a cut above the norm & the staff are particulary attentive and friendly - I'll be back

Unit 2&3, Ground Floor, Main Street, Dublin 15, Clonee, Dublin
Great service and food. This is a must for fussy foodies. They are so attentive when taking the order explaining the dishes and making sure they understand what you like - and they take pride cooking exactly to your liking. If you like it spicy then Flames is the place to go. Relaxing place with friendly service and reasonable prices. Good selection of wines. I am not a fan of Chinese but will return here.
45 South William Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
A favourite of ours ... great atmosphere and calming decor. Friendly efficient service. Interesting menu .. skipped starters and was well satisfied with the house speciality .. Tajine. Washed down with a nice wine. The Moroccan coffee can be slow coming but well worth the wait. Prices reasonable but competition is hotting up in the area !!! Will def be back
Farm Restaurant (Dawson Street)
3 Dawson Street, Dublin 2, Dawson Street, Dublin
Early bird here this evening .. service was friendly and very attentive. Went for the 2 course early bird €19.95. Reasonable value. Good selection of well priced wines and nice aperitiv menu. The fresh decor is in keeping with the lovely crispy salads. Decent portions. Will be back.
Khan Tandoori (Navan)
19 Watergate Street, Navan, Navan, Meath
Our favourites in Navan were full last night so hit Khans for a change. Not much atmosphere - only one other table occupied. Service was very efficient and friendly.Food was very average and my jumbo prawn starter was disappointing. No wine list - red or white? Wont be rushing back.
Venice Restaurant - Dunshaughlin
Unit 9 Dunshaughlin Town Centre, Off Main St, Dunshaughlin, Meath
Last night was our 3rd visit - it gets better & better. Friendly welcome. Special menu and for €16 it was really good value. Calamari & chicken wings starters both delicious followed by tasty grilled steaks cooked to order. How do they do it at that price? Quietly tucked away at the end of cul de sac they have managed to created a warm atmosphere. Great for parties. great value, generous portions and nice red wines. Will definitely be back.
