Visited here Thursday evening, dropped in without a reservation and got a table no problem... was given the choice to sit inside or out so sat outside at it was a nice evening and most tables were occupied. The service was friendly (almost overly) knowledgeable and efficient. The food though....fantastic. A bit of a mix up on our order but was overcome easily...starter of melted Cheese, sublime, the steaks.. as should be in a steak restaurant , perfection, dessert... very good, overall a magnificent meal, just a bit pricey but well worth the expense. A must for steak lovers....

Gotham South
4 Kilmacud Road Lower, Stillorgan, Dublin

3:00 pm on a Friday for a late lunch, so unfortunately no atmosphere whatsoever. We were given a table right beside a table of 6, even though restaurant was empty and there nicer tables and booths empty. Very much felt as we were a bit of a nuisance rather than customers. Food was ok, lamb burger a bit dry, kids pizzas were ok, buffalo wings were good, overall ... wouldn't induce me back.

Fallon and Byrne
11-17 Exchequer Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Had a nice meal here last night... unfortunately I was hoping for better. Service was really too quick... plates whisked away the moment you're finished, which leaves you feeling rushed.. had to ask for the main to be held for a few minutes because it was all happening too fast... this with a 9:30 sitting was unnecessary. The starter was tasty, but my mackerel starter was let down by the miniscule amount of mackerel on the plate, not exactly an expensive ingredient to be so miserly with. Plenty of leaves though, for all they're worth. Mains were good, dessert ok, espresso terrible. Overall ok, but nothing to write home about. Can't see myself going back.

Cleaver East By Oliver Dunne
6-8 East Essex Street, , Temple Bar, Dublin 2 , Temple Bar, Dublin

Visited here last night and have very mixed thoughts about the restaurant. Food was excellent, couldn't manage a dessert between us..! as we shared the Cote De Boeuf for mains, which was fantastic, if undercooked. I like medium rare, my wife like medium to well so easy peasy, we asked for medium and got what was very definitely Medium Rare (on the rare side). I was happy, wife not so much, but the ouutside sections were ok for her and the flavour was amazing so we were ok with it, but should have been a bit better. The starters, excellent. The service was also excellent with a very friendly, knowledgeable waitress and when I had an issue with a beer being served warm, the manager sorted this out before i had time to think about it.... I think value for money is on the ball, really good food, really good service so why the low score.?.. atmosphere... there was none, nada, zip. Music was odd, trying to be a bit clubby or upbeat, but not quite getting there.. it's neither one thing or another. It was quiet for a Saturday night and so I fear for this restaurant lasting the year... It deserves to on quality of food and service alone, but really does need a shake up and figure itself out. I think this might be a great brunch venue, so will try that hopefully before the inevitable...

Firepit
40 Aungier Street, City Centre South, Dublin

Great value menupages deal!!!! Not much atmosphere, small burger joint, milk shakes appalling.. actually just strawberry milk...wings and falafel starters great, burgers good, wrap tasty, service very good. Let down was presentation of the main meals, but a minor gripe, would recommend for a tasty alternative.

Carrolls Gastro pub
1-2 Demense View, Main Street, Lucan, Dublin

2nd Review for this gastropub. Visited here on Thursday night (payday!!). Was a bit apprehensive as last time was abit of a disaster. This time however much better..service was good, food was good, nothing spectacular, but good gastropub fayre. Value was quite good at €20 for a steak on a stone and a pint of guinness! I chose the fillet option and this was ok..sirloin may have been a better option. A little bit pushy on the drinks but it is a bar so to be expected. A bit of slip on the bill at the ned when tried to charge me for the free pint! but was quickly sorted..no hard feelings : ). A big improvement on last time and will be back again...

Unicorn
12b Merrion Court, Merrion Row, Dublin, City Centre South, Dublin

What a great meal, thank you Menupages for the deal! We used a menupages mealdeal which the Unicorn gladly accepted for a Friday night and treated us the same as "regular" diners, something I've noticed is not always the case with other restaurants. NO limitation on the A La Carte menu, with only two exceptions, which were subject to a surcharge. The food was excellent, fresh, unique and filling! I can only rave about the seabass with prawns and mussels...heaven on a plate. Starters superb, desserts good. With the voucher definitely the best value meal we had in quite a while, on full price would have been a bit steep running to probably €150. Service was ok, but no better. Atmosphere was a bit rowdy as there was a group of guys in who liked to shout and very audible with the swearing which was a bit of a pain, but calmed down after the maitre'd had a word. Overall a big thumbs up.

Lakeside Restaurant at Harvey's Point
Lough Eske, Donegal Town , Donegal Town, Donegal

Dinner for 4 here on a quiet Thursday evening and was very impressed. Service was friendly but efficient, food was superb, and I have to mention the spit roasted sirloin beef. I never had this before and can highly recommend as flavour, texture and taste was delightful. A really high quality meal in one of the best settings I've every been in. Should be a destination for any foodie visiting (or living in) Donegal.

Avenue Cafe & Restaurant
Main Street, Maynooth, Kildare

We booked the Avenue for a family dinner, looking for casual dining with 3 children and 5 adults. We were put in a small room to ourselves, which was great, with only one problem. As there were no soft furnishings of any kind, it was really noisy even with just our own party in there. Add to that that the same song played on a loop for at least half and hour before we asked them to change it!. But thats really a minor quibble. We were in time for the early bird so we all took advantage of that. The food was great, we had wings to share along side the starters, deep fried brie, caesar salad, etc. everyone was happy! The wings are good! The mains were really tasty, smoked haddock and chips being voted the best choice. The burgers were good but very heavy handed with the chips! No-one had dessert as all were well fed and happy. Would recommend as a casual, friendly and well priced restaurant. We'll be back for a go at the evening menu which looked inviting.

Mao Restaurant (Dundrum)
Dundrum Town Centre, Dublin 14, Dundrum, Dublin

Went for a meal here on a warm(ish) Thursday evening. Just dropped in and got a table upstairs. We weren't so hungry but just went for mains and were very pleasantly surprised. Food was really tasty, fresh and flavoursome. I got the daily special of Surf and Turf (Beef and Prawn on noodles), great value at €10.50. My wife had the beef with Black pepper and this was excellent. Beers were good, service was ok, atmos was a bit poor but heyho, I would recommend for a quick and tasty treat.

Carrolls Gastro pub
1-2 Demense View, Main Street, Lucan, Dublin

Went here with the family for Sunday lunch. Very disappointing. There was a match on so almost all the tables were taken with people watching the match, so it was never going to be a good atmosphere for a sunday pub lunch. We were ignored by the waiting staff and I had to go and get the menus myself from the bar. We managed to get a table behind the big screen before our food arrived at the kitchen pass. Things were looking up. Then the food arrived. Steak ans eggs looked good but the steak was actually cold. Don'y know how they could do this as it must have been cooked to order. My wifes Roast Beef,... very tough unfortunately. Kids goujons were good and home fries were nice. Didn't make up for poor steak, poor beef, poor service. Won't be back.

ely gastro bar
Grand Canal Square, (Next to the Bord Gais Energy Theatre), Dublin 2, Grand Canal Dock, Dublin

My wife and I took the opportunity to try out the Ely Gasto bar when going to see a show in the Bord Gais Theatre. When we turned up were told it was fully booked even though when trying to book previously online that they only accepted walk-ins between 4:30 and 7:30. However they showed us to a high table with high stools, which were actually very comfortable. We took the pre-theatre menu which was great value at 27.50 for three courses. My starter of Smoked Salmon was passable... nothing spectacular but my wifes Goats cheese salad was superb. Crunchy sweet potato crisps giving a great texture balance. My Rib eye was good, a good bit under med rare as requested, but the flavour was great and the meat was good enough to carry off the undercooking for me. May need to consider rare steak from now on.... hmm, food for thought. My wifes Chicken was very good, succulent, etc.. We took the option to have dessert after the show, which was a nice finish to a great evening. The only gripe was the waiter offering the most expensive wines only as accompaniment to my steak. When I went for a more reasoanable priced wine, he seemed to get a right grump on him and we hardly saw him again. Not everbody can afford €9 for a glass of wine on a Wednesday! But overall a really nice experience, casual dining done very well, unlike my steak : )

Chez Max (Baggot Street)
133 Lower Baggot Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre South, Dublin

We ate here on a quiet Wednesday night and whilst the restaurant was quite busy, there was no real atmosphere. We were on a menupages voucher, which was fine in so much as the voucher menu was ok if rather limited when compared to the normal menu. What was not so good was the way the menu was presented. It felt like you were really in the cheap seats. Add to that that there was no bread to accompany the onion soup, whilst those around us on normal menus got bread with their soup.... would it have cost that much for a few inches of baguette? The mains were good, one steak and frites and one bouruignon... a bit on the small side but very tasty. The desserts were very limited, but our waitress allowed us to swap in a creme brulee. A nice offer but really the tarte aux pommes had to cost way more than a bit of custard, so why leave it off the voucher menu? Overall a very nice meal, good food and very good value, but was made feel a bit of a cheapskate when on the voucher. Would recommend the restaurant

Pichet
14/15 Trinity Street, Dublin , City Centre South, Dublin

Visited here for lunch having no booking. Unfortunately could not seat us for an hour but it was worth every minute of the wait. We had the most fantastic lunch, superb fish, great egg dish (the specialty of the house), relaxed atmosphere, good service (its getting better everywhere but this place raises the bar at this price). Can't wait to go for dinner and am going to book my birthday dinner there.

The Pig's Ear
4 Nassau Street, Dublin, City Centre South, Dublin

My wife an I had the earlybird here on Monday 20/07/09. Earlybird is right from 5:30 to 6:30!!They could do with extending this even a half an hour. Anyway to the food. The choices were limited on the earlybird menu but the food was fabulous, if a little bit on the small side. I started with a great terrine of ham with pistachio nuts. My wife had a nice but simple chorizo salad. Mains were quite small but full of flavour. My roast chicken on roasted hazelnuts was lovely and my wife had a beautiful smoked haddock. For desserts we shared an unashamedly calorific delight, cheesecake , homemade jam and hobnobs. I challenge anybody to finish this by themselves. The best part of the meal was a fantastic house white of verdelho. Service was good but the restaurant was almost empty so no atmosphere to speak of, but the room is nice and a window seat is a plus. Earlybird definitely great value and would recommend. I look forward to visiting again for the full on experience.

Marco Pierre White Steakhouse & Grill
51 Dawson Street, Dublin 2, Dawson Street, Dublin

Visited two weeks ago, just two of us. Got a great seat by the window. Very noisy but for some reason not really annoying. Great atmosphere. Service good but not brilliant, had to wait a long time to get something to drink, but the food.... very very nice and well worth the noise, wait etc.. Kipper pate was full of flavour, goats cheese salad great, my wifes fillet was cooked to perfection (med to well) as was my rib-eye (med rare). The flavour was awesome. Whilst we had a chuckle at the four (4) !!!! chips supplied with the meal. they were as good as anything on a good day elsewhere. In fact we were surprised as we could not attempt a dessert as the meal was so satisfying and filling. Highly recommend and we will be back. As regards value for money.. one of the best in town.

Chapter One Restaurant
18/19 Parnell Square, Dublin 1, City Centre North, Dublin

We visited this restaurant for our Mothers Birthday and were a part of eight. From the moment we arrived until we left (last out) we were treated like royalty. The unfussy, unobtrusive but excellent service we received was matched only by the food itself. The attention to detail was evident both on the plate and in the service. I honesty believe you will get no better food and no better service in this country. I do not feel it necessary to discuss the food. It is better than everywhere else. Whilst it is not cheap and I could not afford this every week, I would strongly recommend everyone to try this restaurant at least once a year. It is that special. I had the oppourtunity to visit a similar restaurant a week prior to Chapter One and there is no comparison - Chapter One wins on every level, service, atmosphere, quality and value for money. A truly wonderful place.
