Restaurant Reviews from TravelBabies
Fallons Cafe and Bar restaurant
Main Street, Kilcullen, Kildare
Reviewed 08th December 2007 ( visited 01st December 2007 )Restaurant has a very nice atmosphere - drinks can be had in the bar/sitting area at the front while looking over the menu and ordering; when appetizers are ready you are escorted into the lovely dining room - stone walls, nicely dressed and set tables with covered chairs - romantic for two or perfect for nice nights out with groups. Food was very good, however, deep fried brie starters were cold in the middle (or else not fully cooked). Wait staff could be more attentive and friendly; however the manager/maitre d' was extremely professional and friendly. Will definitely be returning for another night out this Christmas time.
Jaipore Indian Restaurant
Lower Eyre Street, Newbridge, Kildare
Reviewed 08th December 2007 ( visited 08th December 2007 )My husband and I are frequent visitors to the restaurant - especially takeaways and deliveries. Management/owners are extremely friendly. They run restaurant very well and ensure that everyone is happy with their meals. Restaurant atmosphere is minimalistic/contemporary and very clean looking. Food is consistently good and staff ensure that this is the case. Have tried loads here - so am pretty sure whatever you get will be good! Got a delivery from here today and it was spot on!
Basilico Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria
Oranmore, Main Street, Coach House Hotel, Oranmore, Galway
Ate hear for a family function and, as a large group, we enjoyed our meal. Wine was especially good, which is not often remarked upon. Group tried several different dishes and all were eaten up - good sign. Would definitely visit restaurant again when visiting the area.
Stir Restaurant @ Maldron Hotel Oranmore
Maldron Hotel Oranmore, Oranmore, Oranmore, Galway
We stayed at this hotel overnight as we were attending a family function in the area. Hotel is definitely child-friendly. We only had breakfast in this restaurant - which wasn't included in our rate - and, in my opinion, no where near worth the charge for a 'carvery style' breakfast. Why do hotels feel the need to charge astronomical amounts for a breakfast of an egg, sausage, rasher (barely cooked) and a horrible black or white pudding??? The continental breakfast of cereal, toast and juice is much better. No atmosphere whatsoever in this 'get 'em in, get 'em out' place. That said, if I was staying in the area again, I'd probably stay in the hotel as I was happy with the service elsewhere. Not sure if this will be of help to anyone, but it might tell someone to venture into the village for their breakkie.
Seagrass of Portobello Bridge
30 South Richmond Street, Dublin 8, Portobello, Dublin
I eat here regularly as it's only up the road from my office. Food is consistently great as a group of us usually go for the E15 two course lunch special--try the wine & roasted garlic sausages or their salmon dishes. Have been to dinner only once, but can definitely state the same for it as it's great value for money (E20 for two courses) - food good, atomsphere is good, decor is simple but elegant, and staff are extremely professional and friendly. They also do tapas in the evening. Small bar area and seating downstairs would be perfect for a private function. Check out their website for more info.

I had written a review for this restaurant back in March 2008 and I still have the same comments--pizzas and pastas are good and the lunch menu deal is good value. The major criticism I have is regarding the owner - could be a lot friendlier towards customers--I get the feeling sometimes that they aren't happy when you walk through the door, although I'm sure this isn't the case. It's not the first time I've had that feeling, it's every time, they are quite stand-offish and doesn't say much or anything. It doesn't cost a thing to smile at your customers. I actually hesitate to write this given the replies to some of the other posters comments here. That said, I'm not sure they've ever heard the saying, 'the customer is always right' - as a previous poster here advised that they had too much oil in their meal, then I wouldn't be so defensive about it, just take it on board. Kids should be catered for more also and possibly offered a lower priced kids menu. And I did notice that someone who asked for a highchair was given one that was dirty and had to clean it themselves. All in all, it's a good restaurant, good value for money and consistently tasty food which is why we go back from time to time. I think that if the attitude and atomsphere was changed I would frequent the restaurant more.

We've eaten here quite a number of times since it opened and it has been great every time. Staff are nice and the food quality is great. This is the only place I'll go for Chinese/Thai in Newbridge anymore. They've finally gotten their delivery license so they can deliver, but they still don't have permission to do take-aways. Had two deliveries - and both were as good as eating in the restaurant and delivery was the quickest we've had from any restaurant in the town. There set meals are great if you're undecided on what to order. Or try - the Deep Fried Black Sole with Salt, sweet and sour king prawns, Chicken with Green Curry.
Kelly's Resort Hotel - La Marine Bistro & Bar
Rosslare Strand, Rosslare, Wexford
It was our first time to Rosslare and we were surprised at the lack of restaurants (and we drove around looking for them). We came across La Marine Bistro and just from the look of it, we hoped we get a table at short notice - we did and were delighted as we had an enjoyable meal. Since we were by the sea we opted for the seafood meals, of course! I had scallops and they were divine. Restaurant is casual and decorated very nicely. It is a bit noisy, but that's just the relaxed atomsphere and everyone conversing - which is great when children are dining with you - you don't have to try and keep them quiet for the entire meal. We would definitely return if in the area - and would probably even stay at Kelly's Resort if we did go back as it seems like a great place.
Langton Cross, Newbridge, Newbridge, Kildare
We visit this restaurant often and have had many takeaways. Food is consistently excellent and staff are friendly and professional. When we visited with our toddlers they have often given them a main course suitable for children (usually butter chicken) on the house. The mixed starter is great; and I usually go for the chef's specialty - prawn maldi curry - great! Lots of locals visit on a regular basis. Definitely a thumb's up!
26-28 Clarendon Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
Beautiful restaurant, very nice staff and great food. Went with 7 other colleagues for a work lunch and service was great - fast, but not rushed. All enjoyed their meals, bar one - who thought her noodles were too spicy and the meat dull; however, I had the same meal as did one other and we both enjoyed it. Having eaten at many Thai restaurants have to say that this one was very good and I will definitely return for an evening meal as the bar area also seemed interesting. Definitely recommend it if you like Thai!
Zaytoon (Lower Camden Street)
44-55 Lower Camden Street, Dublin 2, Camden Street, Dublin
This place is great - especially for lunch or to grab something cheap and delicious on way home or to the pub - even better after the pub!!! Chicken Shish-kebab to die for. Loads of office workers at lunch - please is very clean; staff could be a bit more friendly - but you can't beat this place.

Harrigans Bar & Restaurant
Main Street, Newbridge, Kildare
Menu has changed to include some European style dishes. Still has some of the old thai style favourites though. Atmosphere is usually good here; restaurant area is at the back overlooking the front (up two/three steps) but I don't think you have people from the bar staring over at you as another poster mentioned. Age group for restaurant/bar is over 30's/40's and upwards - nice crowd. Staff are very nice.
La Tavola D'Oro
Edward Street, Newbridge, Kildare
This is one restaurant that my husband and I have eaten in that we will not be returning to. The restaurant, food and staff didn't do anything for us that would make us return. The food is actually very mediocre and not worth it. With several other very good restaurants within walking distance I would definitely say go elsewhere. Pasta, pizza, etc. is nowhere near authentic and I just think it's a hokey place and cannot believe it's stayed in business as long as it has.

Donatellos Italian Restaurant (Newbridge) - Closed
Eyre Street Lower, Newbridge, Kildare
Donatello's is a nice restaurant with excellent food in nice, intimate surroundings. It's a happening restaurant in Newbridge and reservations are usually required at the weekends. The restaurant is consistently good - we've never had a bad meal there -going there for over 5 or 6 years now. Things I think could be changed/improved are - they seem to do only two seatings at the weekend--7 and 9pm - 7pm is sometimes too early for people (with kids especially) and 9pm can be too late - think they should be able to take staggered reservations rather than just two seatings; they don't cater for kids really - no highchair; and occasionally I think the maitre d' and wait staff could be a little friendlier than they are....however, food is always good - which is why we always return.
