Wow, this was by far the best meal I have had in a long, long time. The Cellar Restaurant is a really nice setting. The menu is simple and had plenty on it. The bread that comes to the table is a meal in itself, mini loaves that are fresh and gorgeous. Firstly we were brought a taster, pork cheek in a cube of asian spices, with pickled vegetables - I'd have loved more! I had the spring salad with feta to start - it was fresh and light. Others had the prawn ravioli and goats cheese mouse, I think mine was the winner. I had lamb for my main, and wow, wow, wow - it was a treat to eat it. The goats cheese mash was lovely and fluffy and the meat was tender and tasty. The fillet steak looked impressive, as did the duck and sea bass. We didn't have desert, but I was tempted, there was a great choice. I will definitely be going back. The early bird menu looks great, and good value. I can see why President Obama choose the Merrion!!

Black 'n Blue Grill - Closed
Church Street, Wicklow Town, Wicklow

I was really disappointed with our meal. There was plenty on the menu but nothing that stood out. The sirloin steaks were full of grizzle. I wouldn't normally order desert but wanting something to be good that evening we did thinking it would be good. It wasn't. The meal was expensive and certainly did not reflect the food we had been served. Pity, it's a great location. Won't be hurrying back.

Donelli's
Market Square, Wicklow Town, Wicklow

It really good. We decided to go to Donellis for our anniversary dinner. It was absolutely gorgeous. And great value. It was full to capacity which was great to see. It's a lovely venue and the staff are very pleasant. Well done Donellis! We had brie and the duck spring roll to start. For main we had fillet steak - it was really, really tasty!!! Honestly the best meal we have had in a long time. I'm looking forward to going back.

The Courtyard Ferns
Main Street, Ferns, Enniscorthy , Ferns, Wexford

We recently had a family function at The Courtyard and I would like to say the staff and catering were fantastic. They catered for 100 people to a very good quality. The staff pre event and on the day were great. We called in 2 days later and had lunch in the front bar and again the food was lovely. The food is good quality, the vegetables were crisp and fresh (not mush!) - reminded me what food used to taste like before supermarkets!!

Penang garden
South Quay, Wicklow Town, Wicklow Town, Wicklow

We went one Friday evening, got a babysitter and looked forward to a night out. The first thing I noticed was a little girl behind the counter, it was almost 9:00pm, she was the daughter of one of the ladies who works there. Not that I'm super sensitive but I found it hard to enough my meal when there was a 3 year old in a car seat behind the counter watching dvds. We had gone to the effort to get a babysitter and that little girl should have been in her bed. Sorry, but it ruined my evening, I didn't taste the food and couldn't wait to get out of there. I went back for a take-away one Saturday evening snce adn she was there again. It's off putting!

Leitrim Bar & Lounge
15 Leitrim place, Wicklow Town, Wicklow

We had lunch here Bank Holiday Monday and we really didn't like it. It was carvery although they did have food coming directly from the kitchen too. We ordered lasange and fish & chips. The quality of the meat in the lasange was poor. The quality of the fish was not great either. The plate was overflowing with chips. For 2 dinners and drinks it came to €29, it was expensive for poor quality food. I wouldn't go again.

L'Officina by Dunne & Crescenzi (Kildare)
Kildare Chic Outlet Shopping Village, Kildare, Kildare Town, Kildare

On a day out shopping we popped in. I didn't now what to expect. It's a busy place! We had tuna salad, goats cheese salad, minestrone soup and our daughter had pasta. It was all really good, and surprisingly how tasty and good quality it was. Will be going again!

Mao Restaurant (Dun Laoghaire)
The Pavillion, South Co, Dublin, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

We went on friday evening with our 3 yr old. This is 2nd time we have been in the last 2 weeks and it won't be the last. It's a great location and the food is very good. We had the pumpkin spring rolls and chicken satay to start - yum. I had the lemon sole (even though I'm onto a fish eater it looked lovely when I saw someone else having it and I'm glad I did), and my partner had the malaysian chicken and he loved it. The service is quick, they looked after our daughter by putting us beside the fish tank on both ocassions. It's good quality food, not terribly expensive yet a treat.

Bates Restaurant
Main Street, Rathdrum, Rathdrum, Wicklow

Myself and a friend went to Bates yesterday evening and it was really good. We had the set menu, starter and main, there was plenty of choice. the breads were lovely, too nice as we probably filled up on them. We had the char grilled chicken salad and goats cheese starters. Both were simple and tasty. For main we both had the lamb shanks. The mash was so yummy, but while the shanks were lovely they were a bit strong in taste for us. The veg was really fresh and so sweet. We will definitely be back again - get location too!

Diep le Shaker
55 Pembroke Lane, (Off Pembroke Street), Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

We went for a treat last Saturday night, and we were not disappointed. The meal was just a great experience. We had chicken satay and spring rolls for starter. For main we had yellow chicken curry - yum!!! And sirloin steak which I assumed would be stir fried and served with veg and a sauce, it wasn't but the waitress was quick to sort it out and it was back on the table within minutes in a fab sauce. The food was amazing. The service was attentive. It was a lovely experience, will be going again soon!!!

Silken Thomas
The Square, Kildare Town, Kildare Town, Kildare

We had carvey here, good choice of menu. Unfortunately it was cold, they took it back and microwaved it. It was ok. I got turkey and my companion got beef. His was definitely nicer. We have been here before and it was much nicer. We probably got it on a bad day. Will try again.

McDaniels Tavern
Brittas Bay, Brittas Bay, Wicklow

We popped in on the way back from Brittas Bay. It was a quick bit to eat, that turned out to be a real treat. It was very nice food, reasonably priced. It was quite empty, such a pity as it's a lovely place. I'll be going again.

Ristorante Morsiani - Closed
1 Fitzwilliam Square, Wicklow Town, Wicklow

We went on Friday night for a birthday treat. We all had heard good reviews. It's a lovely looking restaurant. The menu is complex and too long - It's hard to read, you have to stop conversation and study the menu. The food was VERY DISAPPOINTING. It was not good at all. The starters were bland. The mains were bland too, and 2 of the 3 mains were cold. I don't like packet lettuce that is literally taken from the bag to the plate with no dressing - that's what we got. The deserts were ok. I won't be going back. It's expensive. They did knock off 2 of the mains as it was very clear we hadn't touch them. During the current economic climate a meal out is a treat, I have to say I was so looking forward to getting out, it was a total let down. The two staff were very professional.

The Fern House Cafe at Avoca Kilmacanogue
Avoca, Kilmacanogue, Wicklow

The Fern House would be a forthnightly treat. It's a lovely venue. The menu has changes, while the burger and fish pie are a regular. I miss the goats cheese starter - it was yum!! The chunky chips are addictive, and I just can't go there without ordering them. The staff are good and very pleasant. I haven't been at night. But, the day trips are fab and somewhere to recommend.

Square Steakhouse
Market Square, Wicklow Town, Wicklow

If you fancy a good fillet steak go here. It's good, no frills, just simple good food. Although it is expensive - so you'd be more inclined to go there as a treat rather than a regular.

Christie's
38 Main Street, Arklow, Arklow, Wicklow

We had a pub lunch in Christies and it was really, really good. We got 2 portions of fish & chips. I'm not a huge fish eater, but it was really good. We shared a cheesecake for desert and it was yummy! Definitely going back.

The Purty Kitchen (Dun Laoghaire)
3-5 Old Dun Laoghaire Road, Co. Dublin, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

I had eaten here several times but on Sunday it just didn't live up to past meals. The menu had changed and it's not great. Out of 5 of us only 2 enjoyed their food. And it was expensive. A main of pork didn't come with a side of spuds or chips - it just came with some mixed veg. The stuffed pepper dish, well the pepper wasn't stuffed! The burger, the bun was not toasted. And the salads which garnished the plates were just thrown there out of a packet, no dressing, just leaves. It was not great. There are too many good restaurants around, offering great valued, good food. Won't be going back.
