The Blue Fin Seafood Grill in Wicklow Town is fast becoming our favourite restaurant. The Valentines Special included a three-course dinner and a bottle of wine per couple for €50.00. At this price, we were impressed with the choice available. I had the smoked salmon and herby potato salad and my partner had the cheese stuffed muchrooms for starters. For the mains I had lemon sole wrapped around spinach mousse with an impressive array of colourful vegetables. Not only was it a work of art to look at, but it tasted amazing! My partner had the steak and mushrooms. He reported that it was the best steak he had in years. For dessert I had the poached pear in shiraz, while my partner had the chocolate truffle gateaux. All food was delicious, the staff were attentive to our every need and the diningroom was very comfortable with candles and plenty of space between tables.

We enjoyed a lovely meal at Synott's Restaurant shortly after Christmas. The early bird menu is excellent value for money (€19.95) and is served until 7:00. There was a choice of three starters, three mains and three desserts all of which were very well-presented and tasty. The dining room is modern and very pleasant, but unfortunately we were the only diners on this particular evening. It would be an ideal venue for large groups or staff nights out.

D'angelo's Italian Restaurant
Main Street, Newcastle, Wicklow

D'Angelo's has a lovely quaint atmosphere which feels very Italian. We had a large group here, which probably stretched their resources to the limits. (ie. some of the food had gone cold by the time the side dishes arrived, no toilet rolls, etc) The couple's menu is very good value with a starter, main, desert, tea/coffee and a bottle of wine for €50. Most of the mains were pasta, but guaranteed that no one went away hungry!

Al Mondo
Abbey Street, Wicklow Town, Wicklow

We had been meaning to have dinner at Al Mondo for quite some time and finally had the opportunity on Saturday night. The atmosphere was fantastic with a roaring fire and live music. It was a family night out and we all had a different chicken dish. I had the Pollo Marsala and it was one of the tastiest dishes I have had in a long time. I think the big difference is that fresh herbs are used. We also had two desserts, which were huge! We will be back again soon.

Christie's
38 Main Street, Arklow, Arklow, Wicklow

The food in Christy's is very good - top marks to the chef. Two in my party had the set dinner - 3 courses for €20. The starters ordered were garlic mushrooms and caesar salad. Both were very tasty and large portions. I had the seafood linguinne, which was excellent! There are two negative comments I have to make though. One is that my friend ordered a coke with no ice. She was given a glass only half full of coke and it was €2.40! Also the seating was not very comfortable, as most were barstools with no backrest.

Mao Restaurant (Chatham Row)
2-3 Chatham Row, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

This is my first time at Mao and I have to say that it was a pleasant experience. I ordered the Malaysian Chicken, which had coconut, chicken, fresh tarragon and a little dish of sour cream - in addition to jasmine rice. The main course was more than enough and the glass of wine was acceptable. They have an extensive list of herbal teas, but I thought they were very bad value at €2.50 to 3.00. Otherwise Mao offers very good value for money.

The Martello (Bray)
Strand Road, Bray, Wicklow

The Martello has an early bird menu, which is very good value - if you are hungry enough for four courses! For €20 there is a selection of about seven starters including mussells! There is also a wide variety of main courses to choose from including steak, lamb, salmon, free range chicken and two vegetarien dishes. On a lovely summer's evening every table was occupied, so it is important to book in advance. The waiting staff could have been more attentive as we had to 'wait' quite a long time for our beverage orders.

Gotham Cafe
8 South Anne Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Gotham Cafe was recommended by my daughter and I wasn't disappointed. I had the Potato and Leek Soup with warm fresh bread. It was extemely tasty and good value at €4.50. My daughter had the Goats Cheese Crostini and she will most definitely be returning just for that! Although I am not vegetarian, I opted for the vegetarian option as I love butternut squash and pumpkin seeds. This was a very well made dish and unlike so many vegetarian options, no tomatoes or onions! The atmosphere is young and trendy and the location central to Grafton Street.

Thai Spice
3A Talbot Place, Dublin 1 , City Centre North, Dublin

Thai Spice is a wonderful combination of excellent food, a warm cosy atmosphere and good value for money. I had the Mussamum Curry and cannot say enough for this exquisite dish of meat, coconut milk, potatoes and peanuts. I have had Thai food before and it was too hot to eat, but the staff are very helpful to ensure you get something you will enjoy. I strongly recommend that you book in advance.

La Dolce Vita (Wexford)
6-7 Trimmers Lane, Wexford, Wexford Town, Wexford

I went to La Dolce Vita with friends on a very busy Saturday afternoon. We arrived slightly after the lunch hour and tables were fast emptying, but they still seated the three of us at a tiny table meant for two 'in case' they needed the bigger table for four. Other than that, the food was perfect for lunch and the Pinot Grigio was great! The prices were very reasonable for what we ordered.

Yamamori Noodles
71-72 South Great Georges Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and selection of food in Yamamori especially for the price. I would not be a great lover of Sushi, but they had plenty of hot food and the Chicken Teriyaki was wonderful! There was great buzz about the place and I would strongly recommend that you book in advance especially on the weekend. The only real complaint I would have is that the tables are quite close together.

The Tribes Restaurant
John Glynn's Clayton Hotel, Galway City, Galway City, Galway

My highest praise for the Tribes Restaurant certainly has to go to the waiting staff. Our waiter was very professional and couldn't do enough to make our evening enjoyable. The basket of homemade breads were wonderful! The food was just okay; we were expecting a higher standard considering the cost. The dining room is pleasant, but dark in places and they could really use some candles.

Cafe Bar Deli (Bray)
51 Main Street, opposite Town Hall, Bray, Wicklow

I went here for an evening meal with a large group of friends. Cafe Bar Deli has a pleasant atmosphere, but I feel that it is not ideal for groups of more than twelve. The menu was rather limited with pizzas, salads and pastas - but what they did do they did very well.

Pinocchio Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar
Luas Kiosk, Ranelagh Village, Dublin 6, Ranelagh, Dublin

After reading the reviews for this restaurant, we were expecting a really nice evening out. The dining area was tiny with no atmosphere at all. Most chairs did not even have a backrest and the cushions were torn and dirty. The food was of a reasonable quality and price, but not a place you want to linger for very long.

Wynne's Café Bar @ The Grand Hotel
Abbey Street, Wicklow Town, Wicklow Town, Wicklow

This is my favourite restaurant in Wicklow Town. It costs a fraction of what other restaurants are charging meaning we can justify going out more often. All main courses are €9.00 and my three favourites are chicken kiev, beer battered cod and the chicken sweet thai curry. Wine by the glass is the most generous I have seen anywhere!
