Good food, which is the main thing of course, and mostly good and friendly service and an all right list of wines, but they have a thriving take-away business and this seems to rule the roost. So, you can be playing second fiddle as they deal with all these orders in the middle of an ordinary restaurant situation. Also, up last visit, they did not take credit cards. A problem too is the draught coming from the door, as you literally walk in off the street. But an Indian is a welcome addition to this part of the world and these may be teething problems.

The Harbour Bar (Rush)
Lower Main Street, Rush, Co. Dublin., Rush, Dublin

Have been here a number of times and found it, on the whole, extremely pleasing. The roast of the day is usually excellent for content and value and there is a decent range beyond that plus a good selection of wines by the glass. It is comfortable and convivial, aside possibly from frantic Sunday afternoons, and the service is usually faultless and cheerful. Meat sources are listed which displays a commitment to good food and customer satisfaction. I would recommend it without hesitation.

Sopranos Ristorante Italiano
Main Street (Above Michael Collins Pub), Rush, Rush, Dublin

A good local in that it's big enough to accommodate at short notice although the prices have gone up and I would feel are a little steep now taking the overall standard into consideration. Staff friendly but can be prone to slack episodes, not lighting candles, not knowing what the house red is, or not putting out two finger bowls when there are two orders of chicken wings, that type of thing - these are issues you can bear (even if you shouldn’t have to!) but if their prices are going up you are entitled to expect a bit more too. Overall, though, I like the place (pizzas good, pasta solid) so long as it doesn't lose the run of itself price wise, as it seems to be doing.

The Man O'War Bar & Restaurant
Courtlough, Balbriggan, Balbriggan, Dublin

Visited this restaurant a few times in recent years and found it good, (nice atmosphere, large open fireplace, split level effect and so on), very good food, decent wines. I think it may have changed management last summer and our last visit seemed to coincide with the changing of the guard. That particular visit was a great disappointment - slow, heedless service, a side order of chips that had to be seen to be believed (spectacularly overcooked in oil), no knife, just a long list of complaints. It is possible that it has smartened its performance again because all the previous visits were totally at odds with the last one.

Pasta Pizza
54 Strand Street, Skerries, Dublin

My wife and I were frequent and happy visitors to this restaurant but had to - with great reluctance - take a vow of abstinence last year because of dreadful service. We had made a booking by phone for Friday night; the only slot available was 9.30 but we took it and agreed to take an earlier time if it emerged due to a cancellation. No call came through so we arrived about ten minutes after the appointed time to be met by this bizarre and flustered performance by the (I think) head waiter who seemed to be accusing us of bending the rules - the booking was off he was suggesting as we did not turn up earlier when a vacancy had arisen. It was hard to do this without any notice! My reading of the situation was that our arrival inconvenienced his, and possibly others', plans for the evening by our prolonging of the night for staff but his terrible manners and lack of any appreciation for previous custom took us aback. I didn't make a point then because I was totally surprised by his behaviour and actually felt it was so sort of attempt at a joke. Anyway, we put it to one side and had our meal which was good as usual but then one of the waitresses, also foreign, leaning over while collecting dishes, let a fork drop on to my friend's wine glass, breaking it in the process. We are not precious about these situations but she scarcely looked bothered and offered to replace the wine with some house red - the spilt wine was not a house red however but a more expensive label. There was no reduction in the bill later or a token gesture beyond the house red replacement. Previously I found staff, on the whole, to be very good. It put us completely off and we've only been back once. A shame but such appalling service should not be tolerated.
