I visited Little Jerusalem last week for a birthday celebration. There was a lovely relaxed atmosphere and very friendly helpful staff.I had vegetarian mezza and it had so many delicious choices on one plate-perfect!A few of the others had the fish dish and also seemed pleased. Many of us had the pancakes for dessert-they are so delicious with rose syrup. All of this was accompanied by homemade lemonade and BYOB wine which makes it a very affordable place to celebrate any occasion(the final bill coming to around E 165 for 7 people). What's not to like!!!

Little Jerusalem - Rathmines
3 Wynnefield Road, Dublin 6 , Rathmines, Dublin

I visited Little Jerusalem for a pre-theatre meal last weekend and had a real treat.I had the char-grilled chicken which had an accompanying Palestinian salad and humus. It really was a cornucopia of gorgeous flavours on one plate. This was followed by a lovely delicately flavoured semolina dessert-harissa -simple but delightful and all for the 'price of a song'.I'll be back in a heartbeat!

Damascus Gate
10 Upper Camden Street, Dublin 2, Camden Street, Dublin

I visited this restaurant recently on a Sunday afternoon when I had one of the 'menupages' lunches for 2 deals. We had some lovely hummus and baba ganoush to start, followed by a recommended lamb dish-arayess which was very delicious. The accompanying salad, liberally sprinkled with pomegranate was the perfect accompaniment along with cardamon tea.The decor was very evocative-even the light shades brought us to realm of eastern fantasy which was very welcome on a crisp February afternoon.I'll be back for the flavours and the value..There was so much food we had to bring some home with us which the staff willingly packed up and in fact we even enjoyed a complimentary dessert.A great way to treat yourself before the weekend finishes!

Rolys Bistro
7 Ballsbridge Terrace, Dublin, Ballsbridge, Dublin

We are still basking in the glow of a delightful meal in Roly's at the weekend. We were a party of 10 of varying ages right up to late 70's and everyone had a great time.I had the goats cheese and Mediterranean pie which was delicious and I got to sample my neighbour's beer battered haddock with mushy peas and chips which was also first class.Even though the restaurant was full and it was late when we got there, the staff could not have been more courteous and even entered into the fun and banter of a large party.I finished off with;the chocolate tasting plate' which was a chocolate-lovers dream come true! This was simply a perfect experience.

Sawadee Thai
94 Terenure Road East, Dublin 6, Dublin 6w, Terenure, Dublin

We visited Sawadee to celebrate a 21st birthday and had a lovely time. The menu is very extensive so some of us had Thai food and others Indian.I enjoyed a particularly good South Indian lamb dish while my younger son had sweet &sour; chicken with chips!Because we had a menupages voucher for 4 it was particularly good value with 4 starters, mains and sides for E60.I thought it had a lovely warm atmosphere and was very glad to have discovered this neighbourhood restaurant.

Alex Restaurant
Conrad Hotel, Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

We visited this restaurant for a pre concert meal as one of the menu pages deals and found it excellent. The service was professional, yet friendly. The orzo pasta dish stands out as a winner-it lt looked so simple and yet it was both filling and delicious. The desserts were also memorable and beautifully presented-I chose the chocolate tira misu while my friend had the lemon pot with macaroons. The performance we were attending was'Brief Encounter' and the meal in the Conrad set the scene perfectly for a romantic evening.

Seagrass of Portobello Bridge
30 South Richmond Street, Dublin 8, Portobello, Dublin

I went to 'Seagrass' for a birthday meal and thoroughly enjoyed it.The menu was very eclectic, the dish which we all raved about was the risotto.I had a very unusual but delightful vegetarian main course while the forest berry tiramisu was a winner all round.Because it was a Tuesday evening there was a very good value menu on all night and we brought our own wine so all in all it was a gteat way to start a new year-I'll definitely be back before long.

Little Jerusalem - Rathmines
3 Wynnefield Road, Dublin 6 , Rathmines, Dublin

I had been to Little Jerusalem a couple of times before and it represents great value for money with a menu which lends itself to sharing with friends. I'm not sure whether the novelty has worn off for me but I found it hard to choose the first 2 courses as everything seemed to be accompanied by hummus and Palestinian salad(both of which I like but just not twice over).I chose the meat on skewers in the end for main, some of which was lovely with that delicious char grilled taste but some was so tough I gave up on it.A very strange thing happened after our first course which I have never experienced anywhere else-the waitress stood over my friend ,holding her main course while my friend had to try to finish her starter as quickly as possible. The tables are so close together that the waitress managed to break a glass from the nearby table while serving us-shards of course went everywhere and in sandals we were lucky to escape unscathed. After our first 2 courses another waiter came over and told us we had to order dessert right away because they needed the table back. The fact that there was a time limit on the table had not been mentioned when I was booking so i was put out both by being told this and by his delivery of this request. We swiftly ordered desserts and I had the pancakes in a rose syrup which although delicious in flavour were so overcooked to the point of being tough and therefore I could really only eat the middle section. In spite of the above quibbles the meal with a menupages voucher and a BYOB was amazing value -it was just that some of the service was rather unsettling.

Viva
27 Richmond Street South, Portobello, City Centre South, Dublin

We had a lovely family meal in Viva on Mother's Day.There was an immediate friendly atmosphere with the waiters establishing a rapport with the grumpiest 15 year old!The food was amazing value with the patatas bravas a particular hit.The cheese and meat board with quince was a meal in itself.Somehow we managed to squeeze in a pastel de chocolate- a perfect indulgence for Mother's Day while the accompanying hot chocolate brought a whole new dimension to this day of treats.I look forward to returning and trying the rest of the menu.
