The perfect day for Moran's - sun shining, sitting outside while the thatchers worked on the roof. Idyllic! The food was fab - lots of fresh crab and prawns. Dishes aren't cheap but they certainly don't scrimp on the expensive ingredients. We had a lovely afternoon and will definitely be back for more.

Service was good and the house wine was pleasant, but the portions were tiny and not good. Pan con tomate was one piece of toasted baguette with cold, overly garlic mush on top. The black pudding and egg dish was unpleasant. The calamari and aioli portion was minute. This was a first visit and a last, I'm afraid.

The Malt House
Old Malt Mall, High Street, Galway City, Galway

Had a very enjoyable meal here last Saturday night. Arrived as a party of 6 with no booking into a very busy restaurant, however they immediately arranged a table for us. Crab toasties were lovely, as was my main of Scallops and Pork Belly - yum! Service was a bit slow but restaurant was very busy and staff were pleasant. We would definitely return.

Park House Restaurant (Galway)
Park House Hotel & Restaurant, Forster Street, Eyre Square, Galway City, Galway

Very old fashioned hotel restaurant, from the decor to the food. Each dish is decorated with 'carved' salad vegetables. However, the prices are not so old-fashioned. EU26 for a very average portion of scampi? Ouch! Crab claws were tasty but the side orders of veg were well past their prime. Overall, your parents will probably feel very at home here but not so great for a younger diner.

The lunch menu is great value. I had the crab croquettes served with salad, rice and fresh lemonade. The croquettes were lovely - crisp shells with soft, well-flavoured filling. Fab salad - fresh herbs, chicory, baby spinach, tangy dressing - so refreshing to see a salad with some thought put into it. The miso soup was one of the best I've had in Dublin as it had plenty of benito, infinitely better than the boiling water with spring onions that Yo Shushi serves! Definitely recommended.

Bellagio
92 Terenure Road North, Dublin 6W, Terenure, Dublin

Definitely a case of price over quality. We ate there Friday lunchtime, when the menu was 9.50 for a starter and main. My starter of crostini with mushrooms was poor - heavy and tasteless. The sulpi was slightly better but again lacked flavour. My main of rigatoni with sage butter was slightly better - nicely cooked pasta but again light on flavour with very little sage. The penne with aubergine and peas was a much better bet, with a good creamy tomato sauce. The side salad was uninspired with no dressing. Service also needs improvement - not rude but certainly not attentive or pleasant. Overall, the cheap price did not make this good value. We won't be back.
