Went here last weekend with the missus and we both really liked it. The place is small but nicely decorated and is nice and bright. The staff were smiley and friendly and that always creates a nice atmpshere. I had the Vietnamese chicken sandwhich as id heard it was their signature dish, It really was fantastic - Ill definitly have it again. I would have loved a little bit of Siracha or some other chily sauce on the side but thats just me. The missus had eggs benedict which were also very nice. We then shared a very pleasant slice of bakewell and leftvery happy and will certainly be back.

Smokin Bones
34 Dame St, Dame Street, Dublin

Went here on a voucher with the missus last night. The place looks pretty cool and had some excellent Americana music (Doors, Johnny Cash Simon &Garfunkel; etc) playing which was a nice touch. The waiting staff were friendly and helpful and were happy to accept the voucher code from the phone as i had forgot the printed Voucher. We had two BBQ plates. The results were generally good. With regard to the sides - the beans were fantastic - the best in Dublin - and the chips were very nice if a little small. The Mac and cheese however was dreadful -soooooooo over booked it was embarrassing. The Coleslaw was really cold - clearly straight of the fridge - and a bit boring. As for the meat, well the sausage was nice and flavourful and the chicken was tasty. I really like both the brisket and the pulled pork - both were full of flavour. However the accompanying sauces were disappointing. BBQ relies on the combination of tender smoky meat with the hit from the sauces. While the 'mustard' wasnt bad, the "spicy" was just bland, and the "BBQ" was strangely dull in flavour. This is a real shame as when the meat is this nice, it is disappointing for them to mess it up by relying on poor saucing. Overall i liked the place. There is nothing major wrong with the food, the meats and the beans are really good but they do really need to address the sauces as that is what Pitt Bros and especially Bison have over it.

Wagamama Dundrum
Unit G1, Building 12, Pembroke District, Dundrum Town Centre, Dublin 14, Dundrum, Dublin

Went here last friday before the cinema. I have eaten in the chain before but not in Dundrum. I have to say i like the decor and the staff were very friendly. The food however..... We ordered the dumplings (fried) and the duck as a starter and then i had a chilli ramen and the Blonde had a beef salad. The starters were nice, though quite expensive for what they were. My main wasnt great. It was verry mild and a bit underwhelming. The noodles also lacked any 'bite' and i would have sent them back only we were in a rush. Her salad wasnt bad, but again it lacked any punch and the beef was alittle over done for our taste. Overall, its not a bad place to eat but when i got the bill (60 quid before tip -1 beer 1 wine) i had to admit that it didnt represent good value for money. Next time i'll pay the extra for Anadar or save some money and go to Counter!

Bella Cuba Restaurant
11 Ballsbridge Terrace, Ballsbridge, Dublin

Went with a voucher of some sort. The menu they gave us so poor. There was about 4 or 5 options for starters and mains only 2 or, at max 3 of each looked in any way appealing. I had chicken crouquettes for starter and the herself had pork skewers. The pork was very nice, simple but well done. My chicken was awful. Think over done frozen chicken twizzer and you are close. For mains, she had the 'drunken chicken' this was a mound of horrid, bland, overcooked rice with some tough chicken and a few veg inside. Seriously dreadful. My main was 'Shredded beef' This sounded more like a stir fry to me but was actually a stew with an inordinate amount of olives- which is not stated on the menu. Anyway, this wasnt actually too bad. Overall the food was very disapointing. I would certianly never return here with a voucher as the menu they put up is a disgrace. I would also never return and pay full price but if someone did, they would probably be able to find something edible. With regards to the service, this was actually quite good. the ladies were friendly and efficent - an i was warned about the Olives as i ordered!

Chez Max (Palace Street)
1 Palace Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Went yesterday and had the early bird with the better half. The food was very average. I had the pork belly starte - which was very tender and well cooked, but very small. the missus had the goats cheese tart which was quite nice. Both were dressed with the same house salad which was very 'meh' and reminded me of a country pub. Our mains were poor. My beef berouginon was insiped. Bland, under seasoned, tough meat in a sauce which tasted of almost nothing. The potatoes were well cooke though. Her chicken was very dry and, i thought, quite small. The rice wa well cooked. Im not sure whether the food is alwasy this bad (iys been 5 years since my last visit) or whether the kitchen just had a bad day but i wont be rushing back to find out. In fairness though, the waittress and the resteraunt manager were both very nice so at least the service was good.

Brioche
51 Elmwood Avenue Lower, Dublin 6, Ranelagh, Dublin

We tried this place because A - it looks quaint and B there was a very good deal page offer on the tasting menu for 2. We booked for 9 but when we got in we were asked to come back in twenty minutes as it was so busy. We were happy to do so and the waiter was very nice so this wasn't a problem. What was a problem though was the view we got of the resteraunt. Its Tiny! Seriously, i have been in resteraunts with bigger coat rooms! Upon our return we were shown to our table by our very nice, and very busy waiter. As feared we were sat at a table between two others which was pretty much a communal bench. We were lucky that the people beside us were so nice. By the time our starters had arrived we were already on first names basis with them and discussing the merits of various holiday destinations. Everyone was so nice - Why ? Well because despite the obvious space related short comings, people were in a good mood because the food and service was so good. Who cares if you dont have as much elbow room as you like when the food you are eating is so good. This was one of the best value meals i have had in years and i would be happy to return and pay full price
