As this restaurant is small they have to turn over the tables as much as possible so don't be surprised when booking that they need the table back by a certain time - you'll have more than enough time to order a 3 course meal if your stomach can fit in the ample sized portions. Once again we went for the chef specials which constantly change and never disappoint. And I tried the homemade Tiramisu which was one of the best I've had.

Good service with decent food which can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace but I think it's a tad over priced. I need more than one potato fondant and a small spoon of ratatouille with my steak or rack of lamb and not have to order sides of veg/chips etc when I'm paying nearly €30 a plate. On the major plus side...we booked the table for 7.30 and weren't rushed out of the place for a later sitting. If you're not ordering a starter you will have to wait a good 20 or 30 mins for your main depending on what you order and how when done you want it - they give you bread while you wait.

Silver Cafe

BYOB, decent food, large portions and very reasonably priced - wish they were closer to me as it would be a handy place for a last minute decision to eat out or meet someone for coffee - also do takeaway and deliver.

Manifesto
208 Lower Rathmines Road, Dublin 6, Rathmines, Dublin

Busy place so definitely book if possible. Had the veal - very nice but roast potatoes were disappointing - seemed reheated. Friend happy with lamb shank - comes off the bone. And pizza went down really well - thin base and tasty. A Diavolo with a glass of Diavolo would be just the ticket before you pop into the cinema next door. But it was desserts that were enjoyed the most. Freshly made in house the panna cotta was delicious and beautiful presented. Same goes for the Tiramisu.

Oh dear, they've changed everything. One of my favourite casual eateries has turned into a dark cavern and my 'go-to' meal is off the menu. No more pork hock!! However, the food is still good even if the menu has changed, it's a bit more limited and the price has gone up a bit. Early bird is still the best value if you fancy fillet medallions with mash and a dessert. My friend had the beef cheeks which was delicious and 'melted in the mouth' apparently. Beware: the salted caramel parfait was poisoned (and I mean poisoned) with salt and had to be sent back. Taken off our bill but no acknowledgement or apology til we were litterally going out the door. That was the only disappointing thing food wise. I'll miss the old decor and the atmosphere that went with it but that's life. Suggest booking ahead as it was busy enough for a Wednesday @ 6/6.30pm.

Delahunt

Great food, service and nice surroundings. The menu is limited to 4 to 5 starters and mains but they change so make sure you look at their website for updates. It was busy for a Wednesday so it's popular and I'd recommend booking ahead. We needed to add sides to make a real meal. I think it's a little pricey at €32 for a two course and €4 per side but lovely food in a nice restaurant at the end of the day.

My husband thinks I'm being harsh by saying that I thought this restaurant was all window dressing - linen table clothes etc and truly lovely staff. They served an amuse-bouche which increased my expectations as it was yummy but everything after that was nothing to write home about unfortunately. It's reasonably priced but the menu is a little limited and the wine selection even more so. That aside there was something for everyone i.e. vegetarian, steak, burger etc. Everything was beautifully presented but the flavours were a bit of a let down e.g. I wasn't impressed by my fall of the bone lamb shank being drowned in a sea of soupy and not so tasty gravy. FYI: It's upstairs so not wheelchair accessible

Brambles Café Bistro

Ok food but a bit pricey if not for the early bird and the early bird is a bit lacking on choice. Otherwise spacious restaurant and comfortable with nice staff.

Farmer Browns

I've eaten here a couple of times and it has some of the tastiest burgers around. Big portions so good value - I haven't left here without a doggie bag yet. Plenty of gluten free options. Love the Blondie dessert (recommend if you like nuts). Seating is a little tight for parties bigger than four so book in advance to get good seating.

RIBA Cafe Restaurant Stillorgan

A bit hit and miss here. Seafood Skillet was a big hit but Burgers and desserts not so much. FYI: The menus and prices on here are out of date but Riba website is good.

Union Café

I'm afraid I have to concur with most of the previous reviews for this restaurant/café/bar. The staff were pleasant but useless, bless them. The food (burgers & fries) were below average for the prices they charge - definitely over priced. Everything was slow to arrive and lukewarm. We had given up on dessert when finally it arrived with an apology and an offer to knock it off the bill - which they did. Both the food and wine menus were limited and over priced - considering there wasn't many choices you would imagine that getting those few options right would be easy. I've come to the conclusion that they don't want to be known for their food but really are just a bar that serve expensive food as an after thought.

Milano (Dun Laoghaire)
1 Harbour Square, Crofton Road, South Co. Dublin, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

7pm Friday - busy but less than a 5 min wait on a table for 2 (suggest booking if more). Very quick and pleasant service. Tasty thin & crispy pizza. Nice coffee. Dessert was a bit expensive for the small portions but that's not what we went for.

Yamamori Noodles

Expensive but big portions. Busy city centre restaurant that's handy if you want to eat early without booking any other time I'd book in advance. Nice staff.

Gleesons

Lovely lunch with plenty of options. Had a delicious Caeser Salad which I'd go back for again. Plenty of tables available in either the bar or restaurant. Service is a little slow so if you're in a rush get the bill when you order. Otherwise it's a great place for a long lunch in a relaxed atmosphere.

Gourmet Food Parlour Dun Laoghaire

Nice restaurant and staff but not the most extensive of menus for a tapas restaurant. Nevertheless the food was tasty and I'd go back just for the sweet potato fries.

Used a Christmas present of a menupages voucher for a 3 course meal from the set menu in the café so good value for us. I wasn't impressed with the selection of mains but it tasted good anyway. Never liked the desserts in the café and nothing has changed - restaurant upstairs is much better. By the by...I had lunch here a few weeks ago and was impressed with their options - hot beef baguette was my choice and I recommend it if you're hungry as it's big and delicious.

Want a great steak? This is the place for you. Fabulous starter of the mixed platter and main course of steak for everyone which was cooked to perfection and tasted great. Staff were a little pushed on the night so hard to get their attention but that's managements fault not theirs.

Acapulco Restaurant
7 South Great Georges Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre South, Dublin

The staff were lovely and the service quick. Atmosphere was lacking but then it was early on a Wednesday night. We had booked but there wasn't a need at that hour. The early bird was lacking so we ordered al a carte and were a bit disappointed tbh. I'm not a Mexican food aficionado but I've certainly had better. Handy spot in town for a quick bite in pleasant surrounding though.

Las Tapas
Old Bray Road,, Cabinteely Village, South Dublin, Cabinteely, Dublin

No problem getting a table with no booking as it was midweek so handy place for a last minute decision to eat out. Lovely staff, pleasant surroundings and reasonable prices. The menu was extensive and, as with most tapas restaurants, you can be torn about what to order. We went with something from each section of the menu. It was very tasty and some of the portions were bigger than expected like the beef casserole/Estofado Vasco and the tortilla. I was sorry I ordered the calamari but it wouldn't stop me going back and ordering something else in the future.

Rolys Cafe
7 Ballsbridge Terrace, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin

All in all it was an ok meal and the service was swift and courteous. I wasn't as impressed by the café as I have been in the past by the bistro upstairs. Besides being a little on the loud side the Cafe's food just doesn't compare in both quality and portion size. This was an evening meal for 4. You can order a la carte or they do a 2 and 3 course set menu - I wouldn't bother with the 3 if you like your desserts as I think you'll be disappointed. The food was 'grand' but nothing special. Out of 4 different starters, main courses and desserts nothing truly stood out as a 'must have again' dish. If you're not too hungry go for the Duck Spring Rolls as they were tasty but very small and if you want something more substantial as a starter I'd suggest the Caesar Salad. All our mains came with potato or fries except for the fish (hake) which came with nothing. The steak I had was nice but I ordered medium rare and got very rare. Who wants to send their meal back to be cooked a bit more? It's the little things that can disappoint and yet are easily avoided.

FXB Monkstown

I generally go for the great Early Bird menu here but this time I went just for a quick main course at the bar. When in a hurry this is a great place to get quick service and the bill comes promptly when asked for. I had the Lamb Shank and my partner had a Burger. Both were tasty and well presented although my husband would prefer a bun rather than a bap for his burger - nit picker! Thank you FXBs for being reliable, as usual.

We had a wild night - Wood Pigeon followed by Venison. The Wood Pigeon was a little tough but still very tasty with Black Pudding. The Venison was, melt in your mouth, delicious. I would definitely return for the Venison. The Crème Brulee was the perfect ending to a fabulous meal.

Beaufield Mews Restaurant
Woodlands Avenue, Dublin 18 , Stillorgan, Dublin

Overall good value in very nice surroundings. There was 16 of us for lunch - 3 course set menu @ €25 +10% service. There was something for everyone including coeliac and children options. Everyone enjoyed their meal - most felt it was standard but decent food. I personally loved my seared duck and would go back again for it in a heartbeat. A big 'thank you' goes to Paddy, our waiter, who was a sweetheart and kept everyone happy while under pressure.

Diep le Shaker
55 Pembroke Lane, (Off Pembroke Street), Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Friendly staff and nice surroundings. There were 4 of us and everyone enjoyed their meal but thought it was nothing special either. I've nothing bad to say about this restaurant but at the same time I won't be going back as I think I there's cheaper options that are just as nice out there. It's in a handy location for walking into town afterwards for a drink somewhere. This is a busy restaurant so I'd suggest booking in advance.

The Real Gourmet Burger - Dun Laoghaire
The Pavilion, South Dublin, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

Great burgers and chips at a reasonable price. Perfect for nights you don't fancy cooking, don't want to break the bank and don't want to dress up. There's plenty of different types of burger to choose from and you can invent your own - the Azzurri burger's my favourite . But why they insist on putting rosemary on the fries is beyond me but you can ask for plain. This restaurant is not designed for comfort - bony asses be warned.

The Port House Ibericos
5/6 Pembroke Cottage, Pembroke District, Dundrum Town Centre, Dublin 14, Dundrum, Dublin

Great Spanish tapas with wonderful flavours. I've been here a few times over the years for quick bites and for long lingering meals. My favourite is with lots of people so you can try lots of different dishes. I haven't found one I don't like yet so that has to say something about the food. The only negative thing I have to say is that the lighting is terrible and it's hard to read the menu in such low light. With this in mind I actually brought a torch with me on this visit and everyone (8 of us) laughed but in the end they were glad I did.

Gotham Cafe
8 South Anne Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Went here for a quick lunch while Christmas shopping. Thankfully we arrived at 12.30 because by 1pm there was a queue out the door. The service was slow but they weren't understaffed so it had to be a problem with the kitchen. I had the pulled pork sandwich and my partner had the steak sandwich - both came with fries included. The steak sandwich was run of the mill but I'll be going back someday for the pork. It was delicious but messy - just how I like it . They could do with finger bowls or wet wipes for sandwiches like this and people like me.

That's Amore - Monkstown
107 Monkstown Road, South Dublin, Monkstown, Dublin

Fast becoming one of my favourite restaurants. Once again the food was truly delicious and worth the trouble of trying to get a table at this very busy restaurant. For pizza lovers...the pizzas are very thin and crispy here but enormous and delicious. I always order from the specials menu as the chef comes up with new delights to try every time. I can't even tell you the name of the last meal I had as I couldn't pronounce it but it was pasta with a delicious sausage and pecorino cheese - truly authentic Italian yumminess. I recommend the Italian Raudii Corvina Merlot - not cheap but worth it if you like a really, really nice Italian red wine.

Rolys Bistro
7 Ballsbridge Terrace, Dublin, Ballsbridge, Dublin

4 courses @ €49 for 2 off the set menu was a fab deal for such good food even with €5 supplement on the steaks. The wine was great and the atmosphere was pleasant. The staff were a bit intense in their attention which led to a discussions at the table as to how much attention is too much? The final decision was... it's a good complaint but let us pour our own wine please as some of us are pacing ourselves or trying to keep track of what we're drinking. A great evening overall. Food: Duck Wontons, Mozzarella Salad, 10oz steaks, Pear Tart and White Chocolate Cheesecake. Wine: Rothschild Merlot

Fade Street Social - The Restaurant
Drury Street , City Centre South, Dublin

Nice enough food but very pricey. They do good steaks and the salmon was perfect but the lamb was a letdown. The sides were some of the nicest things on the menu - the baby potatoes and the cauliflower, yum. I wouldn't bother with dessert - of the 4 we tried they were all disappointing.

Delicious authentic Italian food and fabulous staff. This is a very small restaurant so try to book as early as possible. I had the special (veal) the night I was there which was a little bit more expensive but worth every penny. Great wine menu too.

O'Connells Restaurant Donnybrook
135 Morehampton Road, Donnybrook, D04 HX46, Donnybrook, Dublin

I've eaten here a few times with both large and small groups and the service and food is always great. Their early birds and set menus are good value. I used a menupages voucher last night and completely overate but it was worth it.

FXB Monkstown
3a The Crescent Monkstown, South Co. Dublin, Monkstown, Dublin

I regularly eat here with family and friends and have never been disappointed. We generally eat in the bar downstairs but, depending on the time and the occasion, we also eat in the restaurant upstairs. They're famous for their steaks which are always delicious but my favourite is the pork hock - I love crackling and it's hard to find these days. The early bird is good value and runs all evening during the week so I tend to take advantage of that but so do a lot of people and it can get very busy. The staff are friendly and helpful and are always happy to get me a doggy bag for my pork hock - it's too big for one sitting, for me, on top of a starter. It's also the little things that I love, like newspapers to read if you're on your own and a nice fire in winter.

The Brasserie at The Clayton Ballsbridge
Bewley's Hotel Ballsbridge, Merrion Road, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin

Food was ok and staff were lovely. There was 4 of us - all using a menupages voucher so it was half price which means I can't really complain about value for money but I wouldn't eat here again unless they changed the menu and some of their prices. Please, Bewleys, call your Lamb Shank an Irish Stew as that is what it is and at €19.50 it's overpriced imo. It was a waste of a good lamb shank - use a cheaper cut because it's a stew and it all tastes the same given long enough. Can you tell I had the Lamb Shank? lol. Anyway, my friends had the Hake which was lovely and good size portion. Another had the Pasta Bake which was nice - watch out for the nuclear hot plate. And the other had the Pork which was nice but nothing special. The starters were ok, the best was the Duck - a meal in itself. Heat the plums, add some plum sauce and you have a main course here. Only one of us had dessert - the Sticky Toffee Pudding and it was scrumptious. Maybe this is all tmi but btw you get 90 mins free parking when you eat in Bewleys which would come in handy at busy times in Ballsbridge.
