Popped in here recently on the way home from Dublin. We decided to dine in the Bar as we were in a hurry. What a great menu...a huge selection and very reasonably priced! I opted for the breaded chicken goujons and my friend ordered the minute steak. The food was only delicious...the goujons were homemade we were assured when we ordered and after eating every last one, I certainly know they were - succulent pieces of chicken breast! Our food was plentiful and very tasty and the service was efficient....what more could you ask for! Our waitress was so friendly and the barman recommended a really good wine so we were well impressed! I am definitely coming back here again to try out their restaurant menu...if the standards are anything to go by in tha bar, the restaurant must be a real treat! I think people have forgotten about Moate since the new M6, but there are no traffic jams anymore, plenty of on-street parking (free!) and definitely the yummiest bar-food between Dublin & Galway...well I think so anyway!

Pizza Mama
Pearse Street, Athlone, Westmeath

Myself and my boyfriend have dined here in the past, usually with a groups of friends. We decided to pop in for dinner Fri, July 30th.My boyfriend ordered a starter of Garlic Mushrooms, which was delicious. He ordered pizza, which was bland in taste, but as he was hungry he seasoned it with salt, black pepper and parmesan and tucked into it.I ordered a main course, which was a baked vegetable pasta dish. When I received it, all the veg was raw (the veg seemed to be pizza toppings) I spoke to the waitress, who was very polite (it was her first night, she told us!) and it was returned. I ordered the spinach & ricotta cheese pancakes with a side order of chips. The food arrived promptly, with a side salad, no chips. I mentioned this and the side salad was taken away. The pancakes were soggy with no ricotta cheese whatsoever and overcooked smelly spinach - totally inedible. The chips arrived another 15 minutes later and were never touched At that point, I was still hungry but too disappointed to complain again and my boyfriend had completed his meal. Upon leaving we asked to speak to the manager, who we noticed was present throughout our meal. A waitress at the till asked why and we explained. She went off to the kitchen and came back to say the manager had just left. My boyfriend stated that we were not happy to pay for my meal. She replied that I had eaten my meal and brought out my dish from the kitchen which had only a forkful consumed. She stated if we did not pay for my meal, she would 'have to call the gardai' as that is what the manager had told her!! As we both work in the hotel industry we were horrified at this reaction and told her to go ahead as we were only making a complaint.Eventually, she waived the the cost of my meal, we paid the bill and left. Driving past the restaurant on our way home, we noticed the manager talking to the waitress at the till!! A word of advice to the owners - new management/customer service training is urgently needed! Never again!!
