We had an exceptional meal in Weirs last Friday night (December 19, 2014). I have eaten there many times before and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had black pudding, bacon & blue cheese salad for starter which was delicious followed by Hake and then my all time favourite Weirs desert. The entire meal was lovely. I cannot recommend it enough :)

Weirs Bar and Restaurant
Main Street, Multyfarnham, Westmeath

I've eaten in Weirs countless times but friends of mine recently recommended their chicken wings which I had never had before. I have a deep love of chicken wings but only in a specific restaurant which is in Dublin (it shall remain nameless for this review!) so I was eager to try Weirs dish. I have to say they are amazing, the best chicken wings for miles around. The atmosphere is great and the owners are always very friendly. I can also recommend it for a few scoops of an evening! Try a Friday night when you might find the owner & friends playing a few tunes.

L'Officina by Dunne & Crescenzi (Kildare)
Kildare Chic Outlet Shopping Village, Kildare, Kildare Town, Kildare

I will try and keep this as short as possible as I am shocked that such a place still exists. It is outrageously over priced. For example Lasagne (on it's own with no trimmings whatsoever) is €13.00 and believe it or not a bowl of minestrone soup is €6.00! Unbelievable! I don't know where the above menu came from but it is not the same as the one in the restaurant. My friends ordered salads - the menu states that bread is provided with each salad. The size of the piece of bread they got was ridiculously small. Note when reading the menu you may find yourself looking for the main courses - you will be looking for some time as there are not too many listed. Don't get me started on the service. While the waitresses were nice (and they weren't overly nice) they were pretty useless. On many occasions they reached across the table over each of us instead of going to the other side of the table to serve each person - everyone knows that's a big NO NO! After all those complaints I have to say we had Tiramisu which was delicious and a reasonably good sized portion. My friend asked me to mention that the pots of tea are great - plenty in them and they don't dribble! Honestly I will never go to this place again. I would rather drive a million miles elsewhere so that's saying a hell of a lot! I hope you experience better if you do go (let's be honest you haven't much choice if you are spending the day at Kildare Village!).

Roma Cafe (Mullingar)
Mount Street, Mullingar, Westmeath

The Roma is a fine take away and cafe. I have eaten there several times over the years and not once have I had a bad meal or take away. The menu in the cafe is pretty big. I usually find I want everything on the menu but once your choice is made be prepared to wait as it does take some time. It is worth the wait though :) It is a chipper so do expect to smell like one when you leave, it's not all that bad and does ware off so don't worry. Their milkshakes are the finest - just like when you were a kid delicious and almost impossible to suck through a straw! The only complaint I would have is that they only have one cubicle in the toilets for ladies and it is tiny. Other than that it gets a big thumbs up from me for a decent feed of chips etc. Especially good if you are hungover! I've knocked off points for service, the staff are grand but they are not the friendliest, if you're local and they know you then you're laughing! The prices are pretty high too, but if it's only a treat then what the harm!

Mr Wong
Dublin Road, Manlinstown, Mullingar, Westmeath

Mr Wong is a fine restaurant. The staff are very kind and helpful. Most importantly they are now serving a buffet meal which is priced as follows; €18.50 for Adults and €7.50 for Children. I think this is great value and you can eat as much as you like. The great thing about this buffet is that you can eat from the hot section of the baine marie or you can select various raw ingredients for the Chef to cook in your choice of sauce in front of your very own eyes. It is also possible to order from the a la carte menu. This is an all round great restaurant, I cannot fault it in any way.
