Fenns Quay Restaurant
Sheares Street, Cork City, Cork
Reviewed 17th November 2008 ( visited 14th November 2008 )We got this restaurant through MenuPages and it turned out to be really lovely, food, place, staff etc - all excellent, could not fault it at all. We had the Antipasto plate between 3 of us and there was plenty in it, then we had fish and steak as main - all super! Would definitely return.
Harrys Kitchen Restaurant
22, Dawson Street, Dublin, Area Code: Dublin 2
Reviewed 26th November 2007 ( visited 23rd November 2007 )We went here last Friday after work - we had booked a table for 5 and were lucky the 5th person didn't come along as it would have been a tight squeeze. Anyway we were given the value menu along with the A La Carte - the value menu has some really good choices and was very good value. We went for the 3 course for Euro 24 and really enjoyed it. Food, service and atmosphere were very good and we would definitely return.
Little Jerusalem - Swords
Unit 5, Castle Shopping Centre , Bridge St, Swords, Dublin
Decided to try some takeaway food from this restaurant before maybe going there for a meal....just as well....based on my experience will not be going back! Ordered a falafel
Il Fornaio Restaurant (IFSC)
1B Valenta House, Custom House Square, Dublin 1, City Centre, IFSC, Dublin
We had a lovely meal in this restaurant all the food we had was fresh and tasty....we will be back!
Beresford Hotel, 21 Store Street, City Centre North, IFSC, Dublin
You will return to a restaurant where you get bad service if the food is very good....on this occasion neither the food or the service was very good. There were approx. 13 people in total in the restaurant during the few hours we were there - so not particularly busy. Nice decor, not much atmosphere....there were 2 waiting staff on (one senior and one only just started). Twice during the meal they tried to take our plates away even though we were clearly not finished eating. The food was ok. We had the set menu - 3 courses for Euro 20 - not bad value I guess.... When the bill arrived we had been charged for 3 courses and were only charged for 1 bottle of wine - we called the more senior person who we ordered the wine and the desserts from and told her about the mistake. It was fixed - 3 of us paid by card and 1 by cash. As we were leaving the new person came and said we had left the bill short by 40 euro.....the 40 euro they were short was the cash inside the wallet they had given us the bill in but they had not checked! So, an ok night went from bad to worse. Would not return to this restaurant.
10 South William Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
Disappointed….. We had been looking forward to going to Alfie’s after reading the reviews, however, I should have read more and I would have been forearmed. We arrived at 6:40pm and were shown to our table. There was an A La Carte menu and a Cocktail list on every table. I had been on their website earlier in the day and seen they had an “After Work” menu (on the website it said Euro 14:95 on the actual menu it was Euro 19:95) which finished at 7pm – so this menu should have been on each table until 7pm, now I know why it wasn’t. I asked our waitress if there was another menu – big mistake – we should have gone with the A La Carte….. Although you would expect the food quality should be the same coming from the same kitchen – if they had told us we would have paid the extra? The deal was a glass of “house wine” which was vile so it was just as well they removed the larger glasses from the table and gave us small glasses (a blessing in disguise). You had to pick 1 dish from 3 categories…..what you were not told was that all three came together on one wooden board, small portions are good if the food is tasty and good quality (you can excuse anything if the food is good). My prawns were overcooked and were rubbery and the steak well “tough as boots” springs to mind and flavourless…. We decided to have dessert and coffees – can’t go far wrong here. I know you should give a second chance but I didn’t like this restaurant and will not be returning as there are many other nicer places to go…..
No 1 Fade Street, Off Georges's Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
From the moment we arrived the staff and atmosphere were excellent. We were not rushed or did not feel that we had to hurry up and leave.....I like this in a restaurant and it's hard to find these days! The food was fabulous and we had a great time. We had a variety of food from black pudding, a sharing platter of antipasto, fish, steak, sausage & mash, we also indulged in some deserts which were also excellent. It was perfect for the night we were looking as we were entertaining friends from Canada. Will definitely be back.... The restaurant doesn't take bookings so might not be great for big groups depending on the time you want to eat.
Millstone, A Dublin Restaurant
39 Dame Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
We had a lovely meal here last nite - we went for the set menu which had a very good choice and was good value. Very nice quirky place it was a bit cold by the window so we moved. The staff were very nice, friendly and helpful. Would go again.....
Lagoona Bar & Restaurant
Mayor Square, IFSC, City Centre North, Dublin
We went to Lagoona tonight in order to avoid the traffic at peak time.....we would have been better off braving the traffic and going to Mc Donalds.... We ordered from the menu sausages and mash for him and beer battered cod, chips and mushy peas for me - it was all mush if you ask me! His sausages and mash were only OK, my beer battered cod was served to me with the server saying "the chef must have breaded the cod instead of beer battering it - sorry"...if that was the only problem with it you wouldn't mind! It wasn't even cod.....it was breaded plaice which was confirmed by the waitress when questioned - once again I was told "sorry, would you like something else from the menu"? Not likely I just wanted to get out of there - now not only was the meal awful we had to pay for the sausages and mash and the two soft drinks we had.....Customer Service how are you!!! Never again...
Smyths Cock Tavern Swords
31 Main Street, Swords, Dublin
We haven't been in a while so decided to go to the Cock for a nice steak.....the problem with this is it changes every time....yesterday our steak was served covered in dried herbs (rosemary) and it wasn't very nice. A good steak does not need dried herbs! Each time you go the steak is served differently - sometimes on a hot plate sometimes not sometimes with salad sometimes not - it needs to be more consistent so that you know what you are going to get.....and it's not exactly cheap either!
Oyster Lane Restaurant
Talbot Hotel, Wexford City, Wexford Town, Wexford
We only ate here as it was part of a package we booked. Normally I don't like "hotel" food. The service was not great for a 4 star hotel. The food was ok but again not great. My husband had the beef cappachio to start and the steak so you couldn't go to far wrong. I had the mackeral spring rolls which were ok and the oven baked sea bass. I thought this would be a safe bet as it was recommended but it was completely overdone and lacked flavour and in fact was like rubber. The desert plate was nice. I would not return to this restaurant or recommend it to anyone.
12 Commercial Quay., Wexford Town, Wexford
We went here on Saturday nite based on the reviews posted on menupages. We went for the early bird - 3 courses at 25 Euro. My husband had the wings and the sizzling steak/prawns and I had the mushrooms and the rib eye steak. The wings were bland and the sauce on the sizzling plate was awful. The mushrooms and the rib eye steak were ok at best. The chips that accompanied the meal were not eaten. Desert was probably the best part of the meal. I was very disappointed and could not recommend it.
Cape Greko (Malahide)
Unit 1 First Floor, New Street, Malahide, Malahide, Dublin
We went to Cape Greko before and really enjoyed it, however, on Saturday nite the experience felt very rushed and the food was only ok. Our booking was at 6pm and we were told that we had to be out by 8pm which wouldn't have been a problem - but I came out at 7:45pm with indigestion. We picked from the early bird menu but all the items we choose were on the A La Carte menu too and I would have been very upset if I had to pay A La Carte prices for what we got. Based on this experience I would not return to this restaurant.
Le Bon Crubeen
81-82 Talbot Street, Dublin 1, City Centre North, Dublin
I visited this restaurant in December with my husband and we really enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere so much so I decided to bring some girl friends there. I booked 4 days in advance to ensure we got a table. When we arrived, however, we were put into a room completely away from everything, one I suspect they use when they overbook the tables. There was absolutely no atmosphere where we were and it really ruined the night. If I had been told this when booking I would have gone elsewhere. The food and service were very good but the location of our table was less than satisfactory. I would think twice about returning and probably would not book and instead walk in on spec and if there were no tables go elsewhere. I was very disappointed.
Orchids Restaurant (Cork)
Perrott Avenue College Road, Cork City, Cork
We have been visiting the Hayfield Manor for 7 years now and the food used to be second to none, however, in recent times this has changed. We decided to give it another chance but, unfortunately, our opinion has not changed. Apart from the food which was awful they charged a supplement for the cheese plate on top of the Euro 65 for the meal. The only part of the meal which was enjoyable was the desert - so it was an expensive desert! We will not be dining in either the Orchids or Perrotts restaurant if/when we return to Hayfield.
Masterson's Steakhouse & Wine Bar
17 Main Street, Swords, Dublin
We went here on Saturday nite and it was very busy. The sizzling prawns for starter are delicious as are the stuffed mushrooms. We all had the steak on hot stones - 3 x filet and 1 x rib eye - they were absolutely gorgeous. No complaints at all if you like steak and you don't mind it cooking in front of you....this adds to it....this is the place to go. We had the cheese plate to finish off and all in all we had a fabulous nite. We will definitely be back.
19 Lower Camden Street, Dublin 2, Camden Street, Dublin
We were here on Friday evening - very busy restaurant - great atmosphere, food very good and reasonably priced. Menu a bit limited but what we had was very good. Will definitely return.

9 James Terrace, Malahide, Dublin, Malahide, Dublin
We returned to Cafe Bon after a previous bad experience when it opened first and were pleasantly surprised. The service, food and atmosphere were excellent. I cannot recommend one meal over another as they were all very good depending on your taste. We will return again soon.
27 Exchequer Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre South, Dublin
We were here on Friday evening after work and from the moment we arrived until the time we left we were pestered by the waitress. Every few minutes she was over reaching in over the table filling up our glasses with water, wine etc - we were trying to have a conversation and enjoy our meal however this made us feel very uncomfortable and we really weren't sure whether she was trying to be helpful or trying to get us to finish up and leave. The food was ok nothing special - we had bruschetta and pate to start, no taste off the tomatoes and bread was soggy. For mains we had pizza's and chicken dishes - which were ok but again nothing special. Dessert again only ok. I will not be returning to this restaurant as I don't like being rushed when out for a relaxing meal with friends.
8 South Anne Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
We were in this restaurant on Friday night - it was very busy as usual and the tables all around us turned over several times while we were there. We have been here before on numerous occasions but I felt that this time the restaurant has gone downhill and I was not impressed with any of the dishes we ordered - the antipasto starter was stale looking and was only ok, the main courses again only ok. I would not be rushing back and it felt like production line food and service.
The Cedar Tree
11a St Andrews Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
A group of 5 went here on Saturday night and had a very nice meal. We had 6 starters and they were all lovely - especially the hummus. We had main courses which again were delicious if a little too much for us after our starters....but we did manage to take away a doggy bag :) It was a very busy restaurant and we had a lovely meal. Could take or leave the belly dancer. Would definitely return. Staff were very friendly and nice.
3 South Anne Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
We went here last Friday night after work it was a very busy place with most of the tables turning over 3 or 4 times, except ours. We had starters which were simple but very nice, main courses, dessert, wine and coffee and it came to €45 a head - there were 5 of us. The main courses were very generous and the medallions of beef were very big for medallions but tasty all the same. On the whole we had an enjoyable evening even if when the door opened it was quite cold even though we were in the back. We would definitely return.
Perrotts Garden Bistro
Hayfield Manor Hotel, Perrott Avenue, College Road, Cork City, Cork
We have been regulars to the Hayfield Manor now for some 6 or 7 years and have been in both restaurants in the hotel. In the past the food was 2nd to none in both restaurants, however, this year we were very disappointed in the food. In Perrotts the normal dishes i.e., burger and steak are fine but our starters were very bland, ordinary in fact. I'm not sure what the chef is trying to do but his mixing of flavours and sauces just didn't work - trying too hard I think. It turns out the chef has changed and there is a new head chef over both restaurants - this explains the decline of the food, in my opinion.
Siam Thai (Malahide)
1 The Green, North Dublin, Malahide, Dublin
We went here last Saturday night after 4 years' - it hasn't changed, apart from location. Food was ok but too expensive for what you get, lacking in atmosphere but there was an abundance of staff waiting in line to swipe away your plate and move you along the production line as quickly as possible. The manager wasn't phased by our comments... We won't be back.

Wrights Cafe Bar
The Plaza, Swords, Swords, Dublin
We have eaten here a number of times recently and the food and service were very good. However, we went there today to be told that there was at least a half an hour wait for food (we didn't mind if the quality remained the same) - it didn't and the service was very bad. After waiting approx, 50 mins we got warm mash with our food which was microwave hot and NOT freshly cooked. We told the waitress who didn't seem bothered. When we were asked if everything was OK we told them in no uncertain terms that it was not even OK and we wouldn't be back we were offered a coffee - on the house I don't even know if it was but I certainly wasn't staying any longer than I had to...NOT going back in a hurry!
Cactus Jacks (Middle Abbey St)
Millennium Walkway, Middle Abbey Street, City Centre North, Italian Quarter, Dublin
We went for a meal here last Saturday night it was a pleasant place with a nice atmosphere. Our waiter on the whole was attentive and helpful. The food was only ok - I had the calamari and they were not very good, someone else had the wings and were happy with them. For the main 3 of us had either steak or medallions of beef and again these were only ok - my steak although tasty was not very hot. The fajitas were ok. So overall we had a good night but would not go back to this restaurant.
SALE e PEPE
The Diamond, Main Street, North Co. Dublin, Malahide, Dublin
We went here with a small group of people on Friday nite and we had a very good night, despite the fact that some of the group were late arriving the staff were very nice, food was very good and the atmosphere relaxed and comfortable. Would definitely return.
