Love this place! Have been coming here for about 20 years and it's so consistently good. It used to be way more casual, no waiter service, fab pizzas. When it moved, (quite a few years ago), it only got better. What's great is that they retained their value over the years. Sometimes hard to get a table here at short notice, so worth booking. Busy whenever Croke Park has an event. Service is usually efficient and polite, although not overly friendly. Food is fabulous; although an over-used term, the pizzas are definitely "gourmet". Potato wedges starter has authentic large fresh home-made chunks of spuds. Favourite pizza is the "Texas Chicken" which has a spicy sauce, marinated chicken, and creme fraiche (yum). I don't think they have a bad dish here. Desserts are simple but really good. Coffee is possibly the one thing they could improve. Ordered a double-espresso before - it had a burnt crema and they served it in a large coffee cup, so it was almost cold. Overall though, still love it!

Booked here for a group meal before Christmas. We should have realised when we heard there were two sittings that it was a "pack em + stack em" ethos. Atmosphere was nice, but probably helped by Christmas decor etc. Minds were probably more on the social occasion than on the food but hardly anyone said they enjoyed their meal. I had duck with plum sauce - although I know duck is often fatty, this was extremely so, and I had a hard time finding any decent meat on it; sauce was awful. The service was a bit frantic, probably due to the pressure of getting us served and out before the next sitting (which we were)! 10% service charge was added to our bill, which meant no-one wanted to add any extra. (We had all agreed beforehand, for convenience, to round up the tip, but to be honest it wasn't deserved). Overall, we were all disappointed with our choice of location and a bit put off going again, even on a quieter night.

Castello Bruno
Main Street, Castleknock Village, Dublin 15, Castleknock, Dublin

We came here a little while ago, can't remember exact date, looking for a casual bite to eat with some wine. Hadn't been here since it was re-branded from Trentuno, so was hoping it had improved. Decor is fresher and layout is more intimate, lots of booths now. After waiting for a couple of minutes at the door, whilst staff busily ignored us, a waitress, who was about to go home, showed us to a table. It was a booth by the window - the place was fairly empty and no-one else was seated near us. They proceeded to forget about us... eventually we went in search of a waiter. When a waitress came over, about ten minutes later, there was no comment about our long wait, so we prompted her... "we've been sitting here a long time... did you not know we were here?" No reaction, a shrug of the shoulders; great start. Anyhow, we got a bottle of wine, fine. Food was average to mediocre. No-one came to our table to see if everything was okay (probably knew it wasn't)! No sign of management supervision that we could see. Ordered a double espresso coffee afterwards, which was so badly served... burnt crema, poor coffee, and not even in a proper (large) espresso cup. It just rounded off a bad experience appropriately. Overall, bad service, bad value.

Da Vincis Restaurant (Leixlip)
Main Street, Leixlip, Kildare

Home late from work and decided to have dinner out instead of cooking. We had a nice meal, if a bit expensive overall, (considering it was midweek). Restaurant was quiet at the time and service was good. We got the "Italian Bread" starter... it's described as "focacia topped with garlic and herb oil". However, it's actually just some pizza dough baked with a few herbs and any oil was now dried in. The oil on the table wasn't very good quality but the waiter did bring a better one when we asked. They look after children well here, which is a pleasant change from many other Irish restaurants. Our kids got some pizza dough to play with (and big balloons going home). Kids' menu has a good selection and is ok value - pasta/pizza was good. I had Rigatoni alla Toscana which was tasty but the "hint of chilli and mascarpone" mentioned on the menu was a very tiny hint! Partner had Fettuccine al Gamberetti which was good (although don't think the prawns were tiger prawns). Coffee was not good quality, bitter and burnt, which was disappointing for an Italian restaurant. Overall, a nice meal, but for 2 adults + 2 kids... + with wine - wouldn't do it too often!

The Orient
Main Street, Maynooth, Kildare

Relatively new restaurant, doing a lunch-time special for only €8.80. It’s done buffet style, “all you can eat”. I was sceptical about it before I went, but I have to say it was good - tasty food and genuinely good value. Good range of dishes to choose from – “usual suspects” for Chinese food. Some of the dishes were empty, but were replaced during our meal, so we could still return if we missed something. Decor is nice, if a bit dark during the day. Friendly staff, and good if you want to make the most of a lunch-hour. Worth a visit.

Douglas and Kaldi Restaurant
1 Ashtown Square, Rathborne Village, Ashtown, Dublin

My most recent visit to this place was with my kids. Have been here before for coffee and it was ok, if a bit untidy. This time, we ordered some food and it was awful. Two of us had the french toast made with brioche, which was nice, but Menu said "with crispy bacon"... it was definitely not crispy - more rubbery. Also, they served "back bacon" when "streaky" would really suit this type of dish better. One of the kids ordered the "Pizza Bagel" which was supposed to have marinara sauce and cheddar cheese. They made it with KETCHUP and cheese! Speaks volumes about this place. What were they thinking? When we called the waitress to send it back, she couldn't even deny it. She couldn't even ask if "everything was okay" when we were finished. Overall, this place is lacking management supervision. It looks the part from a distance, but it is not kept clean. Even in the toilets, the mop obviously can't reach any corners. Menu sounds good but doesn't translate through to the plate. Food standard is poor and the coffee is their saving grace. Won't be back in a hurry.

Riverside Bistro
Manor Mills, Maynooth, Kildare

Had lunch here with some colleagues recently. Although part of the Mill Shopping Centre, it is alongside the river, so nice setting. Decor is nice, warm. I reckon it might be nice for an evening meal(?) We were looking for a quick lunch as we had to be back to work. Menu had selection of various sandwiches that sounded nice and prices seemed reasonable. However, the waitress seemed unfamiliar with the menu herself and struggled taking our order. A few minutes later, she came back to re-check our order, so when it arrived we were surprised to find one of the sandwiches was bacon instead of chicken and another order was missing the chips...? It was rectified, but slowed things up a lot. Place has potential, but service needs to be MUCH better.

Dante (Blanchardstown)
Blanchardstown Shopping Centre, Dublin 15, Blanchardstown, Dublin

Went to this restaurant before going to the movies at Blanchardstown last weekend. As name suggests, menu is "Italian style", average prices. They usually have a movie + meal offer. The restaurant lacks atmosphere, is sparsley decorated with rough bare concrete ceiling, and feels cold. The waitress was very friendly and efficient and our kids enjoyed their food, especially the garlic dough-balls. Pizza was fine, but could probably be better, given that this is their "speciality". Have to say though, their coffee was excellent; best I've had around Blanchardstown Centre, for sure. If you just order from the "a la carte", without availing of any special offer, it's a bit dear for what they serve. Could be a lot better if they work on the decor/ atmosphere.

O'Neill's Bar Maynooth
Main Street, Maynooth, Kildare

Like this pub for its trad atmosphere but recent lunch here wasn't as good as usual. Spaghetti Carbonara was very disappointing (€11). Pasta is such a cheap dish to put together this really should have tasted better - bland sauce with bits of bacon rashers - sorry, but not worth the price. To be fair, my friend enjoyed her "American fried chicken" with a tasty mash and said it was quite filling. Surroundings here are nice and service is generally good, so won't put me off trying again - will just try to choose a better dish!

Oskars Bar and Grill
Ballinakill S.C., Dunmore Road, Waterford City, Waterford

Had lunch here with our two children one Saturday, driving from Waterford to Wexford. Place looks nice but was not as welcoming inside. Had to seek out a waiter after sitting in the lounge for ten minutes and no attention. The food was as poor as the service. I would reckon frozen burgers, chicken etc. Could not see any management supervision in the place at the time. Over-priced poorly presented food - we won't be back in a hurry.

Ravellos Restaurant
Clonsilla Village, Dublin 15, Clonsilla, Dublin

We've been here a couple of times, always with our two kids. We had thought the menu was on the dear side for the a la carte, so when we heard about the "Early Bird", we said we'd give it another go. It's a real case of "you get what you pay for": little choice, small portions, poor taste. After a tiny starter, I had pasta carbonara, and can honestly say Dolmio does better! One of our kids had a pizza which was good, the other had bolognaise, which was just passable, but a let-down for a supposedly authentic Italian restaurant. I usually like to get a good coffee in an Italian restaurant, but the quality was not there - acidic coffee with a burnt after-taste. The waiters are friendly and attentive and the place has potential. Please improve your food and coffee as the service and surroundings are quite good!

Wongs of Castleknock
Ashleigh Centre, Main Street, Dublin 15, Castleknock, Dublin

Dined here with a group of friends (8 of us) and were seated at a large round table with the lazy-suzy. Tables are quite cramped with very little space to move in or out. Restaurant was full and busy, and very hard to get any waiter's attention. It seems, if you see a staff member, grab your chance as you won't get one very often! We sat for easily ten/fifteen minutes before being able to order a drink, let alone food! Food was just about passable for most of us, but overall disappointing. I had a favourite: duck in plum sauce: duck was fine but the sauce was a real let-down, bland. Nothing authentic about the offering here. They definitely lost out on drinks sales with us, as it was so hard to get a waiter's attention to re-order wine or beer. Perhaps it was just that it was so busy - however we had booked three weeks in advance - and they must have known that they would be busy. I would give them credit, however, for not rushing us from the table when we were finished (how could they when the service had been so slow)! We made our own evening enjoyable socially but, considering we spent €55 per head here, it was not good. Restaurant needs to improve dramatically, especially service.

Thai Garden Restaurant
Church Avenue, Blanchardstown Village, Dublin 15, Blanchardstown, Dublin

Reliably good food at this restaurant and fairly consistent. Decor is a bit twee: overly-done mock thai but they make up for that with the good food and attentive staff. When we visit with our kids, we usually get allocated a table on the 2nd floor (and try not to be offended)! They do some tasty flambe dishes - recommended.

Herbstreet
Hanover Quay, Dublin 2 , Grand Canal Dock, Dublin

Love the food here and the reliable service means I've brought clients here on occasion too. The corned beef dish (when it's on) is a treat for those who love proper tasty Irish beef! One of the few places that can present a proper espresso too. Please keep it up.

Avenue Cafe & Restaurant
Main Street, Maynooth, Kildare

Had a lovely lunch here recently. We were seated + served quickly (which is what you need on a lunch break). Lunch specials are really good value - I had a yummy wrap with stir-fried veg in a sweet chilli sauce (gorgeous) and a good serving of tasty soup. My friend had an omelette with goat's cheese and said it was lovely. The coffee was on the bitter side, but lunch for a tenner was hard to beat. Great for lunch - will be back!

The Bradaun Restaurant @ Leixlip House Hotel
Leixlip, Leixlip, Kildare

Had the "Dine Out" menu here (only on Wednesday evenings) - very good value at only €20 for two courses incl a glass of wine. Atmosphere is really down to the company you bring, as the restaurant is fairly quiet otherwise. The staff were fine but did get an order wrong. The menu is short but tasty - however one of the main courses (Caesar Salad with Tiger Prawns) was tiny - should really only be a starter. My friend was sorry she ordered it! Overall though, quite good and they are definitely making an effort to give value here. The surroundings are warm and comfortable. Would try again another evening.

Strand Tavern
Duncannon, New Ross, Wexford

We've been here a few times and have found it to be warm and welcoming with good quality food. Unfussy and no frills but consistent in quality - pub has better atmosphere than restaurant area. Service is very good, really friendly. Food standard is great if a little dear for the surroundings...? We like it and will be back.

Ho Wun Chinese Takeaway & Restaurant
2 Main Street, Dunboyne, Meath

Warm and friendly restaurant with nice atmosphere. Very family friendly with good food. Staff were friendly and service was really good. We had delicious food followed up with lovely coffee and the kids were well looked after. Fairly good value for what we got. They also have karaoke on certain nights we believe (not sure when).
