Hamptons Grill restaurant
Henry Street, Limerick City, Limerick
Reviewed 03rd June 2011 ( visited 01st June 2011 )My first visit to The Hamptons - and I wasn't disappointed! Ate here at lunchtime and I must say the service was top class - brilliant for someone with time constraints! I chose from the lunch special - chargrilled sausages, crispy bacon with whipped potato & caramelised onion gravy - yum! I think it's very difficult to get nice mashed potatoes in restaurants but this was really lovely! The sausages were very flavoursome and good quality and the gravy was just as I think onion gravy should be - sweet & sticky and very flavoursome! Lovely to get complimentary sparkling/still water. The dining room & toilets were spotless and what a nice change to get a lovely white, crisp napkin! They go the extra mile here but at no extra cost! A great find!!! Result!
The Wild Geese restaurant
Rose Cottage, Adare, Adare, Limerick
Reviewed 15th January 2010 ( visited 04th December 2009 )lovely restaurant - FREEZING waiting area! While the service was faultless, i thought the food was mediocre. The chef here is obviously trying to impress with flavours but my, what a quantity and odd combination of same!! I wouldn't return for that reason...it did not suit my palate at all (or my 4 friends!!) while each individual flavour was very nice they did not complement each other we felt. Most peculiar...
Market Place Brasserie
Unit 3, Carnegie Centre, Market Place, Newcastle West, Limerick
Absolutely lovely! My colleague and I get takeaway lunches here regularly and every single dish we've tried has been gorgeous! The fish-pie in particular is to die for, extremely flavousome. It's fantastic value for money and it's great to see they source their ingredients locally. Service is great and everyone is very pleasant and most helpful. Cant' wait to try their evening menu!
Tom Crean Fish & Wine
25 Main Street, Kenmare, Kerry
Not very appealing from the outside but what a gem it turned out to be!! Food was fab - super fresh and locally sourced. The calamari & prawn starter was gorgeous! Meltingly tender and served with 2 fabulous dips. The homemade brown bread was very tasty. The scallops were to die for! Served with a beautiful sauce and the accompanying veg and potatoes were just perfect. Service was brill also. Will definitely be back again...ASAP!!¬!
BRASS Bar & Grill
Talbot Hotel Stillorgan, Stillorgan Road, South Dublin, Stillorgan, Dublin
Had the set dinner menu here 2 nights in a row. It was very nice but dining room completely lacked atmosphere. The staff on the first night looked bored & totally disinterested as did the staff at breakfast on both mornings! On the second night, the waiting staff had changed & were much nicer, pleasant & sociable. It makes such a difference! on the 2nd night the set menu was very limited i.e. we only had a choice of 2 desserts etc as lots of things were off the menu. The food we got was really nice though & the food at breakfast each morning was lovely. Good selection & in no way greasy!!
The Huntsman Inn
College Road, Galway City, Galway
Food was nice but totally overpriced! E.g. almost €9 for a plain chicken wrap with a tiny salad on the side!! Chicken salad with mango was delicious. The open egg mayonnaise sandwich tasted really fishy...like of smoked salmon!!! Not nice!! Great parking, ery nice pub, very clean bathrooms but prices are ridiculous. Our waitress was quite surly from the off but maybe she was just having a bad day! Won't be in a hurry back.
The Pins Bar @ The Twelve Hotel
The Twelve, Bearna Village, Galway City, Galway
Stayed in the hotel & ended up eating in Pins Bistro everyday, sometimes twice a day!! the kids adored it & us adults really enjoyed it too. Service was excellent (especially our waiter). The food was lovely with a very diverse menu. Every meal we had was fantastic and very reasonably priced too. The goats cheese tartlet, sweet potato curry, battered fish, caesar salad were all fab! We will definitely return!
West Restaurant @ The Twelve Hotel
The Twelve, Bearna Village, Galway City, Galway
We were a party of 2 adults & 2 children. Wasn't sure about bringing the children aged 9 & 14 here but needn't have worried. The staff were very welcoming & most accommodating. The food was lovely - small portions but very tasty. The duck salad starter was tasty but with just a few tiny shreds of duck!!The duo of pork was fabulous-melt in the mouth meat with lovely vegetables to accompany. We had the 3 course taster menu which was good value. The waiting staff was just excellent without any of the pomp or pretentiousness often associated with a restaurant of this calibre. I will return!!
Spurs Family Restaurant
U42 Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, Liffey Valley, Liffey Valley, Dublin
Wasn't very impressed! Service was painfully slow and waiters were indifferent. My friend & I both got 'well done' steak - flavousome but totally burnt! The baked potatoes were lovely but the coleslaw was awful - tasted totally synthetic as did the barbecue sauce - like an overpowering flavour of cinnamon??! The crispy onions tasted as if they had been cooked in much used oil - Not nice...to our palates anyway!! I have eaten here before but I think it has gone rapidly downhill Won't be rushing back! sorry
The Carlton Hotel
Dan Spring Road, Tralee, Kerry
Four of us had a snack in the bar - each of us had just a plain sandwich and 1 portion of fries between us + 1 tea, 1 coffee & 2 Fanta & the bill came to almost €37!!! totally overpriced! Service was good and it was a nice airy place with spotless restrooms but far too expensive for what we got. Doubt I'll return! sorry!!!

Imperial Hotel (Kerry)
Denny Street, Tralee, Kerry
Ate here with a friend-bar was very busy. The chairs are ridiculously low! Looked like something out of Alice in Wonderland!! The food was so-so...The Fajitas while very plentiful were bland without even a hint of spice or heat! No accompanying salsa, gaucamole or anything...weir!. My scampi was okay but again, tasteless and soggy. The staff were very pleasant indeed but sorry...the food we received was not! Won't rush back!!
Main Street, Killarney, Kerry
My nephew and I ate here on a miserable, wet evening. The staff were lovely and welcoming and the place looked spotless with plenty of space between tables which is nice. The pizzas were lovely and light and really flavoursome! The offer of parmesan and chilli oil was welcome. Service was excellent with very pleasant staff. We will definitely be back!
Main Street, Abbeyfeale, Abbeyfeale, Limerick
10 us had lunch here and everyone was pleased! The food was very nice but I don't think the description on the menu does it justice at all! Service was excellent and most pleasant. We have all been back since and it has been lovely again. Their cajun pork chops are delicious and their vegetables are very tasty. Red cabbage was gorgeous as were the roasted veg that accompanied the roast of the day...but why not mention these on the menu!! The only down side we all agreed on was that the chairs are small and very uncomfortable!! I will return!
O'Riordan's Bar & Restaurant
Main Street, Abbeyfeale, Abbeyfeale, Limerick
Had lunch here with a friend. Service was extremely slow considering there were only 8 other people in the restaurant! The food was okay...ish. The place was very shabby with tables not cleaned etc and the seats looked really dirty. I would not be in a hurry back! Sorry!
Kate Browne's Pub
Main Street, Ardfert, Ardfert, Kerry
we had a very nice meal here! It's plain, homey type of food. The steak was one of the nicest i've ever eaten - juicy and flavousome. I thought the accompanying onions etc were greasy though. it was fantastic value for money and service was excellent. I wish they still had boiled potatoes as an option 'cos they were the best potatoes ever but now it seems to be only mash or chips! Pity...so many restaurants serve only small watery ones but here they used to be fab!!
Danú Restaurant at The Brehon
The Brehon Hotel Muckross Rd Killarney Kerry, Killarney, Kerry
My sister and I had lunch in the bar yesterday. The place was very plush and we had to wait to be seated in the bar where there were loads of free tables! The lunch itself was a disaster from start to finish. We waited AGES (and I mean ages!) to get the food and we both had ordered the Turkey & Ham (roast of the day) so we thought we'd have no delay. When the food eventually arrived it was stone cold and congealed on the plate!! The butter was actually solid on the vegetables! It was taken back by a lovely, pleasant waitress and once again we waited... It still wasn't anything like hot and the meat had completely dried out and there was still a 'skin' on the gravy. It was awful. Worst €26 we spent!! Maybe they were just having a bad day in the kitchen? I felt sorry for the really nice waitresses who had to serve this food. We certainly won't be back.
Adare Manor Golf Club
Limerick Road, Adare, Limerick
My friend and I ate in the bar here. It was very noisy. When a rather dour waitress took our order and asked us about drinks to accompany our food, she seemed to have great difficulty providing us with tap water! I got the chicken Caesar salad which was ok...ish. Very little dressing and huge chunks of bland-tasting chicken. My friend just had the Bailey's bread & butter pudding which was delicious. Just as we finished eating, a waiter insisted on moving us to another table...saying "you must find the group next to you very annoying." We said it was fine but he insisted we move. The moment we got up, he moved our table over to the 'noisy group'...it was painfully obvious he just need the table for more golfers to join them. Incredibly rude. Even other diners noticed and mentioned to us how rude it was. Won't be in a hurry back.
Manor West Bar & Bistro Hotel
Killarney Road, Tralee, Kerry
Was treating my friend to lunch here. A treat? NOT! The service was appalling and the food was cold. We both had the pork which although flavoursome was cold and covered in a synthetic tasting, congealed gravy, accompanied by gloopy, cold mashed potato. It was served by a surly waiter who unceremoniously plonked our plates in front of us without even a word. We ordered fries and didn't get them until we had finished our meal, despite trying to get the attention of several serving staff. Even the coffee was cold! I fetl most embarrassed in front of my friend who always commends my choice of restaurant AND it was totally overpriced for what we got. Sorry, but I will not return. It was disgraceful
The Orchid House
The Square Abbeyfeale, Abbeyfeale, Limerick
I often get Take-aways here and they are always very tasty. Sweet & sour chicken very nice and also sweet chilli chicken. The staff here are just lovely! they are so welcoming and appreciative of gratuities which they ALWAYS acknowledge. Service is brilliant and the waiters/waitresses could not be more accommodating. fantastic value for money too.
Moll's Gap, Kenmare, Kerry
Had lunch here. Fabulous day so the view from the café dining area was stunning. the salads and homemade desserts are very tasty and the staff are most pleasant. Service is excellent and tables are served and cleared speedily despite having an eternal queue!! They have a really nice selection of food here. Pity the chairs are so uncomfortable and light...they would not entice you to linger over your coffee...!!!
Goldens Cove, Sneem, Kerry
Stayed here and had dinner 2 nights. Lovely dining room and staff were very polite, if somewhat subdued. Starters were delicious - seafood tian, prawns, goat's cheese in filo pastry. the leaves they came on had a fantastic dressing each night. Main course of pork...Not good - the pork was really pink and in the thicker medallions, some of it was practically raw!!! while some of the scampi was lovely, some of the prawns were not de-veined and some were almost raw, honestly!!! What's with the almost raw meat??!! Desserts of coconut & malibu gateau & white chocolate & raspberry cheesecake were scrumptious! The carafe of water offered each night was totally musty and undrinkable!! Breakfast each morning was so-so... I wouldn't rush back to eat there.
Stonechat Cafe and Restaurant
8 Flemings Lane, High Street, Killarney, Kerry
Had a light lunch here. My friend had the stir-fried vegetables with rice which she said was delicious - very light and very nicely flavoured. I chose the Chicken Caesar Salad. This was also very tasty...until I got to the bottom of the bowl where there was a rib of hair. NOT nice. However, the waitress was most apologetic and nice about it and didn't want to charge for the salad. At least she acknowledged the problem!! I will return sometime...
26 High Street, Killarney, Kerry
Had a very nice evening meal here. the staff are absloutely lovely! We had no booking but were immediately shown to a table. The deep fried Camembert for starter was very oilyand unpleasant really. However the main course of apricot stuffed pork was delicious as were the stir-fried vegetables and spring onion mash which accompanied it. The sauce however was tasteless unforutnately!! The meal was very good value though! Glad to see they've changed their chairs to a more comfortable type!!
The Lime Tree Restaurant (Kerry)
Shelbourne Street, Kenmare, Kerry
Had a very nice dinner here. We got a very nice basket of bread with butter and a fabulous tapenade. The starter of Brie & the seafood tian was absolutely lovely with beautifully dressed leaves. The roast fillet of Hake was very nice also but the skin was a bit flabby so not very appetising and also quite a lot of bones in one of the fillets. The vegetable and mashed potato accompaniments were very tasty...very nicely flavoured. Dessert of pear and almond tart was too hot and rather bland in flavour. Service was excellent and the staff was most pleasant. Tables too close together to have any sort of private conversation and the food was overpriced in my opinion.
Gallagher's Seafood Restaurant
JP Clarkes Country Pub, Bunratty, Clare
2 adults & 2 children-we ate here last night and what a lovely meal we had! Both the children & ourselves loved it. The staff were lovely and very efficient. We were made to feel so welcome even though we hadn't booked and arrived quite late. The meal was scrumptious - particularly the baked fillet of hake with the goat's cheese & beetroot crust. The homemade burger and sirloin steak that the children got were both lovely and so were the desserts. The apple & blackberry crumble was delicious and so were the profiteroles - chocolate sauce was dreamy!!! The meal was fantastic value and we will definitely be back!
Daly's Restaurant @ The Connemara Coast Hotel
Connemara Coast Hotel, Furbo, Galway, Furbo, Galway
We were a party of 2 adults+2 children. The food in this restaurant was very good. Salad starters and soup for the children was very good indeed. The trio of pork was delicious as were the accompaniments-potatoes & veg were very flavousome especially the summer squash. The fillet of cod on buttered leeks was melt in the mouth and the desserts were very tasty also. Service was very slow-even though we had a reservation. We waited at least 40 minutes before any food was served and nothing (not even bread!) was proffered. Hungry children are not impressed by this!!! The meal was very pricey. Well worth a visit but don't have any time constraints!!! Breakfast next morning was lovely and service was much better and more organised!!!
Restaurant @ Renvyle House Hotel
Renvyle, Connemara, Galway
We were a party of 2 adults & 2 children and had dinner here on Friday night. The food was delicious, particularly the scallops! They were beautifully cooked and came with lovely accompaniments. The fishcake starter was very tasty as was the children's soup. Desserts were thoroughly enjoyed by all of us. Service was very good but little if no interaction from the waiting staff which is a pity as it's so family orientated. They came across as being indifferent but efficient in carrying out their duties. The manager however did visit each table and was most pleasant and welcoming.
a, Ballycastle, Antrim
Ate here last night with my friend. Service was excellent, both the waiter & waitress were most pleasant & efficient-attentive but not intrusive. Loved the fact that water was served in a covered bottle! We chose from the Table d'Hote. The mushroom starter was delilcious as was the paté. The Italian salad was most disappointing though-rubbery mozzarelle, tasteless tomatoes, lifeless leaves and it arrived without the balsamic dressing!! The steak for main course was fantastic - tender & flavousome. I had the brill which was also fantastic and served with a scrumptious sauce. All accompaniments were very tasty also. Desserts were very nice too. Deifintely worth a visit.
6/7 Carey's Lane, Cork City, Cork
Had lunch here with my friend. Service was very good and the waitresses were very pleasant. I ordered the warm chicken salad for starter. NOT nice! It was bascially a few shreds of chicken and slices of potato on lettuce but instead of dressing it was served with a thick, piping hot pasta sauce poured over!!! NOT a salad. The Pollo Parmesana I had for mains had the exact same tasting sauce on the pasta as I had on my 'salad' but with extra chilli, which I found searingly hot. Sorry, but I would not be in a rush back!!
Old Market Lane, Killarney, Kerry
visited here with my sister for lunch. She had the roasted cod, which she said was delicious. Ii had the prawn stir-fry with noodles, which was also lovely-while not very appealing looking, it had a lovely delicate flavour. the only complaint we both had was that the food was REALLY salty (and I am a salt fiend!!) and we had to wait a long time. However our server was very pleasant indeed.
The Glenquin Restaurant @ The Devon Inn Hotel
Templeglantine Village, Templeglantine, Limerick
visited here for a Confirmation lunch. service was faultless - pleasant and efficient. the food was very nice if somewhat plain and everything was hot and served promptly. the pork in particular was very nice. however I was surprised to see the 'set lunch' was without a vegetarian option. overall very nice though
Ballyseedy Home & Outdoor Living, Ballyseedy, Tralee, Kerry
I've often eaten here and while the menu never changes, it's usually ok..ish taste-wise. however when I visited with 2 kids on this occasion we were all very disappointed! The kids who usually love salads, couldn't eat the pasta salad, it was far too garlicky - it had the 'garlic burn' factor! The noodle salad tasted of nothing but sesame oil and the chicken was absolutely tasteless! None of us ate much. Service was very good and pleasant. No soap in the toilets and i brought it to their attention - nothing done about it and i happened to visit 3 more times that week (not the café) and STILL no soap in the toilets! Wouldn't rush back!!!
109, O'Connell St, Limerick City, Limerick
Had lunch here during the week. I ordered Singapore Noodles with chicken & prawns. It was delicious. The chicken on skewers was gorgeous and the noodles etc were very nicely flavoured. The noodles were cut into about 5cm strands, which I thought was a bit odd!! However, service was excellent and food was excellent and in a very pleasant atmosphere. What more could you ask for?! Oh yeah, brilliant value also at €9.50!! I will definitely return...next week!
The Brasserie @ Newlands Cross
Bewleys Hotel Newlands Cross, Clondalkin, Dublin
had breakfast here while staying in the hotel. A very good selection of hot and cold food and FRESH orange juice! A very nice variety of breads and pastries also. it was really busy but service was fast and the service ladies were very pleasant. Cooked food was a bit greasy though but tasty nonetheless. Very convenient for parking etc.
The Birdcage Cafe
Avoca Rathcoole, Naas Road, Rathcoole, Dublin
Had lunch here. a great selection particularly of salads but sadly they were either pretty bland (tomato salad comprised of utterly tasteless tomatoes and a bland dressing) or tasted of cumin. Most disappointing and rather pricey. nice ambience & counter staff were most pleasant but I'm afraid the same can't be said of the two ladies cleaning the tables! Wouldn't rush back!
Sinergie (Liffey Valley)
The Clarion Hotel, West Dublin, Liffey Valley, Dublin
Very nice restaurant and we availed of 4-course Valentine's dinner for €70 for 2 people. service was quite slow but the food was very tasty. Smoked chicken salad wasn't so great but the goat's cheese starter was lovely. we both had steak for main course - my partner's steak was quite tough but mine was perfect and we both enjoyed the accompaniments. Desserts were okish.
Russells Select Bar
Fr. Russell Road, Dooradoyle, Limerick
Best carvery food in town. Great selection and very tasty. They really cater for everyone's taste and provide a fast, efficient service. Badly need to do something about the toilets though!!! Not very clean!!!
Lord Kenmare's Restaurant
18 College Street, Killarney, Killarney, Kerry
My sister and I ate here last evening. It was fabulous. We both had herb-crusted scallops to start with - sublime!! Tender, succulent sweet scallops in a delicately flavoured crust. My sister had steak with bearnaise sauce - fantastic and I had the duck. Vegetables, gratin potatoes & chips were all lovely and service (as usual) was top class. I find it to be a consistently great restaurant and everyone should find something fabulous to eat...no matter how fussy an eater they are!!!
The Wild Geese
Rose Cottage, Adare, Adare, Limerick
lovely restaurant - FREEZING waiting area! While the service was faultless, i thought the food was mediocre. The chef here is obviously trying to impress with flavours but my, what a quantity and odd combination of same!! 40 New Street, Killarney, Killarney, Kerry
We hadn't booked but were immediately shown to a table by a very pleasant gentleman. My colleague shared a tapas starter which was scrumptious. My colleague had the seafood platter which she enjoyed, however portions were very small and it was served completely devoid of any sauce, which we felt it needed. I had the duck which was delicious and everything served with it was fantastically flavoursome and seasoned to perfection. My only (little) gripe was that the duck skin wasn't even a little bit crispy...shame!!! our bill came to €70 which we thought was a bit pricey for 1 starter + 2 mains and only tap water to drink. even so I would love to make a return visit. the early bird menu was very good value.
