Once again I had the freebie quick lunch on the menupages voucher. Although I arrived very late and lunch was essentially over, they had no problem about seating me. I didn't even look at the menu; I knew I was having the delicious sausages which are full of flavour and come with truly yummy mashed potatoes, gravy and onions...a real warmer upper on a freezing day. I had sparkling water with this which I should have been charged for, but was waved away with a 'sure the voucher covers everything' when I tried to pay. A lovely lunch which cost nothing!

Bay Restaurant
369 Clontarf Road, Dublin 3, Clontarf, Dublin

I love Bay and have been there many times; in fact this week I had a lovely lunch there, but I was a little disappointed with the food at dinner last night. Now first let me say it is fantastic value at 22 euro for 2 courses and you can order anything off the menu. My starter was lovely...pate...but my main course was a let down. I had ordered a goats cheese salad as I usually love goats cheese but this was extremely salty; it was also a very small dish...basically the goats cheese, a heap of rocket leaves, a tiny bit of beetroot and 2 pecan nuts. Not half as good as other meals I have eaten here.... Service and atmosphere were as usual very good.

A really buzzy, busy place where we had a great night out. Good value and the food was terrific.

Octopussy Seafood Tapas
7 West Pier, Dublin 13, Howth, Dublin

Octopussy is a tiny room but this makes it atmospheric. It was thronged the night we were there. We got a bit of a bad vibe at the start as we were left standing for quite some time before we were acknowledged...however once we got our seat everything warmed up and the waitress was very helpful. People should be advised that there are very few regular tables and chances are you will be sitting on a high stool. This didn't bother us and we loved the view we had from the window of the fishing boats just outside and further away the lights of the marina. We shared 4 tapas which was more than enough and the food was delicious. We had a massive bowl of mussels, a trio of fish (which included chips), patatas bravas and smoked chorizo. We just had coffee to finish. We also shared a lovely Chilean Sauvignon which we were told was just as nice as a Marlborough but about 10 euros cheaper....I wish I had got the exact name because it was delicious and very like the more expensive New Zealand wine. I will definitely be back to Octopussy.

Soulful Bistro
46 Manor Street, North Dublin , Stoneybatter, Dublin

Went for brunch here using a voucher yesterday. There was a very pleasant relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant...not buzzing, but I don't want buzzing at brunchtime anyway. The room is gorgeous, really attractive and appealing and the service was great...a nice attentive waitress. The food was good too but this greedy lady could have done with more of it. My guest had poached eggs with smoked salmon and I had pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Would have loved more....but in fairness we were using a 14 euro voucher and we got 2 fresh orange juices, 2 coffees and the hot plates for that...so no complaints really. I will visit again definitely.

Very nice lunch once again...and all the nicer for the fact it was free with the menupages points. Highly recommended.

Zaragoza
South William St., Dublin , South William Street, Dublin

Visited on a quiet Monday night so I the atmosphere was slightly muted. However I have no difficulty in believing that this room would be hopping on a Friday or Saturday night; it is a beautiful space. We had a voucher and with it I felt the value was fantastic and the food is delicious. We had 4 tapas...albondigas, prawn and monkfish casserole, pork and chorizo casserole and a goats cheese and spinach concoction wrapped in fillo pastry...all of them gorgeous. We also had 2 sides...chips (they were too big and chunky for my taste) and some tostados with a dipping sauce which were very nice. Service was very friendly and attentive. A good experience...my second visit...and it will be followed by more.

Went in for Sunday lunch using the menupages voucher which allowed for 2 tapas and a side each. The portions were huge and each one was more delicious than the one before. The very friendly waiter even allowed us to order another regular sized tapa each instead of a side. Will definitely be heading back asap.

Earth & Vine Restaurant at Castleknock Hotel
Castleknock Hotel, Porterstown Road, West Dublin, Castleknock, Dublin

The food and the service were excellent. But as we visited on a Saturday afternoon the hotel itself was thronged with families and the foyer and reception area was very noisy...this didn't seem quite the atmosphere for afternoon tea. However the specific place where the food was served was lovely and quiet. Another small complaint was the parking as you have to get a code to leave the parking area...very easy to forget and a bit of a pain to have to go back inside and get it. Nevertheless I enjoyed my visit and would return again.

Very nice afternoon tea. Service excellent...food very good. Perhaps not quite the atmosphere or sense of occasion as there would be in the Shelbourne but a good afternoon out, especially at the price.

Brasserie Sixty6
66/67 Great South Georges Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre South, Dublin

I had the menupages voucher for the swift lunch which has to be the best value in town costing precisely nothing! The voucher includes a main course and a cup of coffee. There are 5 choices (I think) of main courses, but I didn't pay much attention to them as I knew I was going to have the herby sausages on a bed of mashed potatoes with a red wine gravy and french fried onions. I can't even begin to tell you how delicious this is. As it was the start of my holiday after a tough year, I decided to treat myself to a glass of prosecco. When the very attentive waitress brought it, she said it was complimentary as there were some workmen in and they might disturb me! (They used a drill for about 2 minutes of the hour and a half I was there.) Had a dessert, seeing as I hadn't spent any money (and I always feel that giving a free lunch the restaurant are owed a little spend) but I was a bit disappointed in this....Eton mess...it was actually too messy and sweet and chocolatey for me...but in truth I didn't really want it. The atmosphere was a little muted but it was a Monday lunchtime...I was quite late for lunch really so no fault with the atmosphere really.

Restaurant Ten Fourteen
324 Clontarf Road, Clontarf, Dublin

Went for a late lunch and so it was probably understandable that my choice of main course was no longer available. I had ordered a vegetable curry but went for chicken and chorizo pasta as an alternative. It was very tasty but being quite creamy, I couldn't finish it. As I had begun with a huge helping of calamari, this was not surprising. My lunch companion started with a mezze platter which I thought was a little bit mean looking but she said it was plenty and it was certainly delicious. She followed up with trout, mashed potato and green vegetables and it looked so healthy and inviting, I found myself wishing I had ordered that. Even though it was only Wednesday (and lunchtime) we decided to treat ourselves to a bottle of house wine; a Chilean sauvignon at 22.95. This went down nicely with even enough to spare for a glass for a friend who joined us later for coffee. She had a scone too. Despite the fact that we lingered till after 5 pm at no point did we feel we had to leave. In fact service was very friendly and attentive throughout. The bill came to 68 euro, to which we added another 7 as a tip. I would definitely return.

Brasserie Sixty6

Had a lovely weekday lunch in here for a very reasonable price. A lovely plateful of food and a really nice coffee for a tenner. You certainly could not cook it yourself at that price. I had chicken and my son had sausages, both accompanied by a really tasty mash. The service was pleasant and attentive and I would definitely go back again.

Brasserie Sixty6
66/67 Great South Georges Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre South, Dublin

I used the speedy lunch voucher from menupages and it was a fantastic deal. I was able to choose from about 5 different main courses...this deal was FREE. It also included coffee and (I think) a soft drink. I can't confirm the soft drink part as I decided to treat myself to a glass of wine as the lunch itself was costing me nothing. I have marked the restaurant down slightly for atmosphere which isn't really fair as I had a very late lunch and was on my own in the place. The service was very friendly, despite the fact that it was probably a pain to have to look after me when they could have been really taking it easy. And the food? 2 beautiful flavoursome sausages on a bed of delicious mash and smothered in onion gravy. Yum!

Il Fornaio (Raheny)
55 Kilbarrack Road, Dublin 5, Raheny, Dublin

I love this little local restaurant and the experience last night was no exception. First of all the waiter was attentive and pleasant and very good humoured. The meal was gorgeous. I had bruschetta for starters which was lovely but my cousin had a platter of cured meats, marinated vegetables and some cheeses, which was a meal in itself. we both had pasta dishes for mains and they were really tasty. Although we were full we felt we had to sample a dessert so we had a tangy lemon meringue pie between us, with 2 coffees. The deal included a bottle of wine.....incredible value. Luckily I live just across the road!!

Il Fornaio (Raheny)
55 Kilbarrack Road, Dublin 5, Raheny, Dublin

Great value deal I felt. Very nice bottle of red wine, delicious mussels and bruschetta for starters and then the tastiest pasta dish I have ever had....with tuscan sausage and mushroom sauce. My companion had pork belly...a huge portion which came with a side dish of rosemary potatoes. no room for the desserts which I know are delicious but 2 tasty cappuchinos to finish. A lovely evening.

Rolys Bistro
7 Ballsbridge Terrace, Dublin, Ballsbridge, Dublin

Used a groupon voucher which cost 35.99. Unbelievable value. A delicious 3 course meal with the highest quality ingredients, beautifully cooked. Not surprising that the room was packed, even on a Wednesday night. Service very attentive and great atmosphere. Yummy bread too!

Dax Cafe Bar

Went with a voucher, sat up at the bar and had a great night. Truly delicious tapas....the pork belly melted in the mouth and the tortilla was SO tasty and a great big glass of wine to go along with it! You just couldn't beat it.

Salamanca
1 St Andrews Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

This was my fourth visit to Salamanca and it has become a firm favourite. The price for the set lunch is incredible....12 euro; you just can't go wrong. Today 3 of us visited and all of the dishes we sampled were fresh and delicious. One of us had a smoked salmon and russian salad starter which was really tasty and 2 of us had caprese....mozzarrela, basil and tomatoes...small portions but for the price no complaints at all. Main courses were even nicer....2 cod and chips...the cod comes in a little steel fryer which makes the dish really attractive looking and the third person had chicken and she said it was lovely and moist and tasty. We shared a bottle of Savignon Blanc and a dessert of profiteroles and chocolate sauce. With one Americano the total bill....between 3 remember, came to 63 euro. The service was friendly and unobtrusive and we sat for about 3 hours. Excellent!!

Brownes Deli and Cafe
18 Sandymount Green, Dublin 4, Sandymount, Dublin

Went here for my second visit on a miserable Sunday evening at the end of November. Arrived half an hour early just as they were making the transition from day time deli to night time bistro. There was no problem; we were shown to a table as the work went on all round us; we didn't mind a bit getting stuck into a cup of coffee and a glass of wine as we waited. The 20 euro special offers extraordinary value...starter, main course and a glass of house wine for that price. Portions are generous and the food is very tasty, good homecooked, wholesome offerings. I enjoyed it enormously and our waiter was great. Recommended.

101 Talbot
Talbot Street, Dublin 1, City Centre North, Dublin

While I enjoyed my night in the 101 Talbot I was a little disappointed as I didn't think the food was as good as I remembered it....I hadn't been there for a couple of years. There were just two of us and my friend ordered garlic bread for starters and it was too big....made on huge chunky slices of bruschetta. My starter was nicer, hummous which came with vegatable crudites and pitta bread. Again I did better on the main course with stuffed peppers, really spicyand tangy, quite successful. My friend had ordered chicked and the portion that came was so big it looked off putting to me, though she said it tasted nice. I must say that for a Tuesday night it was pretty busy so they are obviously doing something right.

Itsa4
6a Sandymount Green, Sandymount, Dublin

Met here on Thursday night to discuss our summer at 7.30 and we didn't leave till midnight! There was no problem with that and we certainly didn't feel pressurized to leave by the staff whose service was excellent. Value was pretty good too with a form of earlybird menu available all night. You can have a starter and a main course for 20 euro, choosing from the regular menu but only those options with a star beside them. Obviously they are the cheaper dishes but there is a good selection nonetheless and the food is delicious. We were a little bit disappointed with the way the wine worked out but maybe I'm nitpicking. Along with the 20 euro menu a glass of lovely pino grigio is 5 euro (30 euro) for the bottle.Only 2 of us were drinking and we had 2 glasses each....but only the first 2 glasses were 5 euro; the 2nd 2 were 7.50. Felt that as 4 of us were dining they could have given the 2 drinkers the 2nd glass for the fiver. Didn't matter for us (an extra fiver) but if there was more wine drunk it could add up!! But overall a great night and good value.
