Restaurant Reviews from Lumiukko
Farmer Browns restaurant
25a Bath Avenue, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin, Area Code:
Reviewed 29th August 2016 ( visited 06th July 2016 )Once again, simply excellent. My wife and myself have visited Farmer browns at least a dozen times, and we have never left disappointed. We have been their as part of group, with friends and family, and on our own.. Every time, and including everybody in our group, always leaving with a big smile. My favorites are the burgers, which I have with sweet potato fries, and any of the desserts, which are always freshly made and generous in size. This is my second review for this awesome spot in Bath avenue, and I happily reconfirm my strongest recommendation for it.
Al Vesuvio restaurant

The Chelsea Drugstore
25 South Great Georges Street, City Centre South, Dublin
Chelsea Drugstore is an excellent spot for a private event. They take bookings for downstairs, and serve sharing platters / various options of pretty nice things, that will get even larger group sorted. Great cocktails, which are priced on same level as in any place in Dublin, that is of this quality. It is not cheap, but it is reasonably good value for money you pay. Excellent service and very nicely decorated place. I happily give my recommendation to it.
The Old Spot
14 Bath Avenue, Sandymount, Sandymount, Dublin
This is a very nice relatively new dining spot in Dublin 4. Decor is great, service is excellent, and food is very tasty. My favorites from the menu. Starter: Tuna Tartare; Main: Pressed Lamb Shoulder; Dessert: Chocolate cake. Been there 2 times, and will be back. Do I need to say more..
Taste at Rustic
17 South Great George St., City Centre South, Dublin
I was trying to think, but could not come up with anything to complain.. Taste is decorated with good taste.. It is welcoming, and somehow different, but in a very positive way. We took good while to decide what we wanted, but that was in fact part of the experience, with some delicious cocktails to start our night. We had quite a few things to eat, and all was really nice. Pot's and grilled meat is prepared by yourself at the table, which is good fun. Overall great experience, and will definitely go back.
Avenue by Nick Munier
1 Crow Street, City Centre South, Dublin
We visited Avenue by Nick Munier with my wife, redeeming TheTaste.ie voucher for 3 course dinner including a bottle of wine. Decor is nice. The place looks modern, and is very welcoming, and gives you a good feeling. We started by ordering aperitifs, which in fact never arrived. We later got an apology, as they had issues with printer in the bar, and did not pick up our order. We started with Salmon Tartar, which were nice. The main courses, the hake and the steak were ok, but not really special. The desserts were awesome, and especially cheese plate was very generous, and without supplement (surprisingly). Savignon Blanc was included for the package, and it was nice. Overall the price was very reasonable, that we paid for the voucher. We had to wait for our bill for some time, as they picked up the voucher on our arrival, and were about to make us pay the whole amount. It took them some time to find the voucher, and finally we were able to leave. Possibly some "growth pain" of recently opened restaurant, but still we kind of expected more.
36 Wexford St, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
Really simple menu, with only a few items on it, but hey, you go to Bunsen for great burgers, fries, and milkshakes, and those they excel with. Mouthwatering good..
22 Ely Place, (Just off St. Stephen’s Green), Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
They certainly know their wines, and have a VERY nice selection of them, and how to make a perfect stake. I have had a stake in many places in Dublin, but this is one if the best, every time. We Will be back..
Mulberry Lane, (directly behind the Bang & Olufsen Store), Dublin 4, Donnybrook, Dublin
Be early to enjoy a drink in the garden with live fire. Weekly changing menu makes you want to go back soon. Everything is simply great. Very good value for money. Strong recommendation!
25a Bath Avenue, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin
What a find, and right next to our doorstep.. Farmer Browns is an intimate, nicely decorated restaurant, that serves brilliant food, which is very reasonably priced. What more can you wish for? We had a Burger and Mussels as mains, which both were really generous, and mouth watering good - yet best was still to come in heavenly good Apple tart. Applet tart was heated, and served with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and fresh berries. What a fantastic combination, and even though it was very generous in size, we were left grieving for more, as it was sooooo goood.. Book a table to secure getting in, as this is not a big restaurant. When you get in, go for anything in the menu, I am sure you will love what you will be served. We will definitely be going back.
Chez Max (Baggot Street)
133 Lower Baggot Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre South, Dublin
We were looking forward to this dinner, as we had heard and read so much good about Chez Max. I admit, this may have something to do with the food falling short, as we had allowed our expectations to rise really high.. Chez Max really has some unique decor, and the interior is great. It looks and feels nice to arrive, and that also builds up on getting a really nice meal.. We started with Goat's Cheese salad, and Onion soup. Both ok, but nothing special. We had Boeuf Bourguignon and Moules Frites as mains. Boeuf was again reasonably ok, but it did not impress too much. Mussels were nice, and with plenty to eat. Mussels were definitely the best course of the ones we had. We had Apple Tart and Panna Cotta as desserts, and they were ok when combined, but as their own they were not really good at all. Apple tart was served cold, and with some whipped cream on side. The texture was not too nice, and you got a feeling like it was pulled from fridge, added some cream and thrown to table.. Panna Cotta again was not right with the texture of it, and there was way too much jam on it. We ended up mixing a bit from both, and in that way we managed to get something somewhat tasty out of the two, but this is not one should be forced to do.. 5 Stars well deserved for decor, athmosphere, and really attentive service. Unfortunately the main thing, which is food, fell really short..
13 Merrion Row , City Centre South, Dublin
We visited Marcel's with the voucher for 5 course dinner and bottle of wine. It was actually 3 proper courses and 2 small appeticers in between, but there was plenty to eat. Everything was really really good, and we were really looked after. This is a kind of funky place as decor, and it is great to see something new coming up on this high level from the start. We will definitely be back, and would recommend this for romantic dinner.
1 Victoria House, Haddington Road, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin
We visited Asador on a very busy night before Christmas. Restaurant was buzzing with people. It is almost like eating in a bar in one end, with exceptional drinks served. Food is great, and I would recommend to go and eat beef here. It is fab!! Great place for dinner and few drinks with friends.
15 Stephen Lane, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
Visited Dobbins with my wife for Friday dinner. Nice decor, great service, and everything we ate, was delicious. Not the cheapest place to eat in Dublin, but you will get what you paid for. We had Goat Cheese salad and Dublin Bay Prawns to start with. Generous portions, and mouth watering good. We both had the fish of the day, which was cod, as main, and with the potatos and veggies as sides, these were very good size poertions as well. We shared chocolate mud cake as dessert, and had class of muscat each to wash it down. Delicious.. Strong recommendation.
Fade Street Social - The GastroBar
4-6 Fade Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre South, Dublin
Fade Street Social is simply very, very good place to go and enjoy night out with someone special, or with a group of friends. I have visited twice, and both times on the Gastro Bar side, enjoying selection of tapas dishes. While you can't really go wrong with anything, there are some dishes, I want to pick up as my strong recommendations: Crispy Air Bags, Crispy Free-range Chicken cooked in tapioca flour, rolled in sumac with truffle popcorn, and Truffle Pasta charred artichokes and parmesan. I will definitely be back..
Marco Pierre White Steakhouse & Grill
51 Dawson Street, Dublin 2, Dawson Street, Dublin
This is very nicely decorated restaurant with some great food, but prices are definitely on high side. I would have also expected a bit more attention from the staff on our group of 8 people, since they add 12,5% Service charge automatically on groups of 6 and more. That adds up to reasonable amount of tip in this restaurant. I will likely go back for the early bird, and I can recommend this place, if your wallet can take some damage. The food is very tasty, but there are very many options around, with more moderate prices. Just as an example, the sides priced on €4,95 are simply too expensive, when considering what you get for that money.
47 Shelbourne Road, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin
This is a lovely lunch/brunch restaurant and sandwich/juice/coffee bar. It is family driven, which shows in service and atmosphere of the place. It is like being home, and eating very tasty food. My favorite is the burger with one of freshly made juices. Worth trying out..
O'Connells Restaurant Donnybrook
135 Morehampton Road, Donnybrook, D04 HX46, Donnybrook, Dublin
We redeemed a voucher for 3 course dinner, prosecco cocktail for two with a bottle of wine. We were least to say impressed. The starters were served from buffet, and it was great, since we had a chance to taste a bit of everything. I had lamb as main and rhubarb crumble poe as dessert, and both were excellent. Great valie for money.
Rock Lobster (Inactive)
Above Kiely’s Pub, 22-24 Donnybrook Rd, Donnybrook, Dublin
We had a voucher for either two lobsters or Porterhaouse steak to share, and we went with the higher value option, which was the stake. That was an excellent choice, since there was plenty to eat, and the meat was simply amazing. We saw other vistors eating lobsters, and based on what we saw, we definitely want to back for lobster..
Bridge Bar and Bistro
The Malting Tower,, Grand Canal Quay, Dublin, Grand Canal Dock, Dublin
Great ambience, interesting decor, very tasty food. We had scallops with black pudding as starters, and they were simply amazing. I had beef fillet as main, and that was also really noce, and perfectly medium, as ordered. Both home made ice creams and chocolate fondant again were really nice. Must go back..
Bella Cuba Restaurant
11 Ballsbridge Terrace, Ballsbridge, Dublin
We visited Bella Cuba with a Menupages voucher for 5 course dinner and a glass of vine each. There was soup to start with, and then as real starters we had home made guacamole and batatas bravas. Mains were pork and coconut key style hake fillet. Hake especially was delicious. Both desserts were again excellent. House red was very good company for the dinner, which was a pleasant surprise. House vines sometimes are from cheaper side, but in Bella Cuba you can happily go with their choice.. We will definitely go back.
73 Mespil Road, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin
Very generous portions, especially starters. Good pizza, and fairly ok priced. Good service. Ok value for money.
The Pig's Ear
4 Nassau Street, Dublin, City Centre South, Dublin
Excellent food, and very generous portions. I was actually half expecting the portions to be smaller, since the restaurant comes through as a bit higher end, what comes to initial feeling and environment. Food was excellent, and as said, there was plenty to eat. Good service as well. Will go back, and bring some visiting friends as well..
73 Mespil Road, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin
We visited Al Vesuvio with Menupages voucher for 2 course dinner with a class of wine each, for 2 persons. We had tomato mozzarella salad and checken wings as starters and pizzas as mains, and everything was delicious. The starters were very generous in size, and the pizzas were exactly, what you can expect them to be, coming from real pizza oven, they have in restaurant. Service was very attentive and polite. Not the cheapest option in town, but definitely worth the money spent.
2 Bath Avenue, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin
Visited Juniors for lunch. We shared two different sandwich portions, and they were both very generous and tasty. Juniors is definitely a place to visit for lunch!
Mitsuba Japanese Restaurant
154 Parnell Street, City Centre North, Dublin
I wanted to refresh my review of Mitsuba, since apparently there has been some changes with the personnel, including chef. I have to say, the quality of Sushi is still high. This came almost as a surprise, after some controversial feedback I have lately heard, but I am definitely happy, we went back. The menu is slightly different, which is actually refreshing. Service was attentive, and the only thing maybe needing a bit improvement was still the place itself, but I always put the food first, so I was very pleased. We had 5 different portions of food (Miso soup and 4 different sushi) with beer, and all this was under 40€. This place is definitely good value for money. We will be back!
The Winding Stair Restaurant
40 Lower Ormond Quay, Dublin 1 , City Centre North, Dublin
We decided to give Winding Stair a try on Friday night while walking around the city center, and were lucky to get in without a reservation. Winding Stair is quite small, and very nicely decorated restaurant, with very attentive service. They have very nice selection of wines and the menu includes good variation with meat, game, fish and fowl, so you have plenty to choose from. Overall very nice experience. The early bird is quite affordable. I recommend you book beforehand, since this was the first time we actually made it in without booking, and this was our third try.
47 Shelbourne Road, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin
We visited Maia on a lazy Sunday afternoon, and we quite liked the place. It is very relaxed, and the staff is really friendly. We had Piccante sandwich and a Burger, and both were very generous portions and really tasty. Each of us had also a freshly made juice from the juice bar, and these were nice and refreshing. Maia is a nice place to visit for breakfast, lunch or brunch. We will definitely be back.
7 Ballsbridge Terrace, Dublin, Ballsbridge, Dublin
We visiter Roly's with Menupages voucher, and will definitely be back. Our starters were Gorgonzola Cheese Salad and Prawn Bisque, which both were very nice. As mains we both had salmon, which was really interesting portion in the best possible way. The desserts were very generous and heavenly good. Restaurant was very busy, but on the other hand they had plenty of people taking care of their customers. Couple of times I had to make an effort to get attention, but nothing major. The atmosphere and decor of the restaurant is very nice, and overall we can easily recommend Roly's to everybody. Food is very good, and you will not leave hungry. Interior design gives possibility to have a little privacy, so it is also good place for romantic dinner..
80 Aungier Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
Visited Darwins with voucher on pretty busy Friday night. First impression was great. Decor is nice, and we were warmly welcomed by the waitress, but then something happened with the service. Our voucher included 3 courses and a glass of wine each, and we were simply asked, if we want red or white, no question if we would like to have a glass of sparkling to start the nigh or something. It continued the same way. We needed to ask for water, we were not "disturbed " during starters, mains or desserts by someone paying any attention to us, and we were not asked, if we wanted coffee or any other drinks in the end. Food was great and tasty and beef was absolutely delicious. Only thing with the main was, that the beef was served with plain mash, and again we were not really offered any sides. So, decor, atmosphere and food were great, but non-existing service left us with mixed feelings. This could be one of the very best Steak restaurants in Dublin, but the service needs some serious attention.
Toscana City Centre
3 Cork Hill, Dame Street (opposite Dublin Castle), Dublin City Centre, Dublin 2, Temple Bar, Dublin
Pleasant surprise.. Toscana City Centre was a nice, and lively restaurant, and the quality of food was also very good. We had Bruschetta and Fish Balls as starter, Pasta as main, and Gelato and Tiramisu as dessert, and everything was very nice and tasty. Service was attentive, and we felt being looked after. Simply said, very well worth visiting. Early bird menu is also available.
2 Lower Kevin, South Circular, Dublin
What a disappointment.. We had the Groupon voucher, and had received the message, that explained the extended validity of the voucher due to the renovation work taking place, but were very rudely turned away. We were not the only ones, either. No apologies, they simply told the voucher has no value, and asked us to turn to Groupon. Groupon handled the after work very well, where as Faties really fell short in their service. I have no idea of the quality of the food, and I have no intention to go and find out either. Dublin is very good place to live in that sense, that there are plenty of choices on dining and even on these niche players.
The Chop House Gastro Pub
2 Shelbourne Road, City Centre South, Dublin
Ate here in June, followed my friend's recommendation, and tried 28 Day Dry-Aged Hereford Beef 10oz Rib-Eye, which was absolutely delicious. Chop house is a very nice place to eat, but I would not call it Gastro Pub. It is a quite highly priced restaurant. Rib-Eye was very good, but it also was one of the most expensive dishes, I have had in Ireland. We were party of 8, and they were really struggling to get our orders right. Overall an ok experience, but there are other very good options to choose from, matching easily these prices.
3 South Anne Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
Visited Kitchen with my wife, redeeming a voucher with two course meal and a class of wine, each. We shared the spicy chicken wings as starter, and it was delicious. I had Fresh Prawn Linguine, Tossed with a Light Cream & Herb Sauce as main, and it was one of the best pasta dishes, I have had in a long time. My wife had Prawns, Pea & Pancetta Risotto with Rocket & Fresh Parmesan, which was also very good, but a bit too much peas, which made it a bit sweet. We finished our dinner by sharing Handmade Chocolate Brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream, which also was very good. Attentive service, and very nice and happy waitress, took very good care of us. We had a window table upstairs, which was very nice, and overall experience was very positive. We will definitely go back!
Mitsuba Japanese Restaurant
154 Parnell Street, City Centre North, Dublin
I have to say, this was probably the best sushi I have so far had, and I have had some. It really came as a surprise, really. The way the portions were set up, was a bit different. The spicy versions, were also nice little touch. Service was attentive, and the only thing maybe needing a bit improvement was the place, itself, but I always put the food first, so I was very pleased. I am definitely going back.
Bloom Brasserie & Wine Bar
11 Upper Baggot Street, Dublin 4, City Centre South, Dublin
Redeemed a voucher here on Friday, and really enjoyed our visit. It is a nice place, and food is very tasty. I had carpaccio as starter, and beef as main, and both were very good, indeed. Only thing, that would need some attention, is service. We had to ask for everything: more drinks, dessert menus.. Other than that, very nice place and definitely worth a visit.
22 Donnybrook Road, Dublin 4, Donnybrook, Dublin
We enjoyed our dinner here last night redeeming our voucher, and really enjoyed our visit. The decoration of the restaurant was very nice, and airy, meaning the tables are not "piled up over each other". We did not use the bar services, but it sure looked very inviting, as well. Then to the best part of the visit: excellent food. I had a platter, which had prawn, lamb, chicken and vegetarian teaser, and everything was delicious. My wife had prawns, and that was a set of three huge juicy, flavoursome prawns. As mains we had seabass and lamb, and both were some best Indian dishes we have ever had. As side dish, we had long rolled up pancake-thin bread called dosa, which was absolutely delicious! Friendly, attentive staff, excellent food, and very pleasant atmosphere. We can strongly recommend Dakshin to anyone.
20 Mountjoy Square East, Dublin 1, City Centre North, Dublin
Very pleasant visit. We had sea bass and fillet stake as mains, chips and house salad as sides, and Apple & Custard Tart with home made Strawberry Ice Cream as a dessert, and everything was absolutely delicious. The service was very good and attentive, as well. We can definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a reasonably priced and enjoyable dinner. We would not have found the place without CityDeal voucher, so that really worked for us.
The Eagle House
18 Glasthule Road, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin
We redeemed our Groupon voucher in Eagle House, and were quite pleased with our visit. The place was nice, service was good, and the food was quite tasty, indeed. We had Indian cuisine, and it was pretty good value for money. Garlic naan was quite different than one usually gets, but it was very good as well.
6 Merrion Row, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
We were 2 couples, and one child, and really enjoyed our dinner in Hugos. We had 3 course pre-theatre menu, and everything we had, was delicious. Hugos is bigger, than it first looks, but has enough personnel to take care of the tables. We had very good service, very nice food, and the place was nicely decorated. Easy to recommend, and will most likely go back.
Indie Spice (Sandymount)
23-24 Sandymount Green, Dublin 4, Sandymount, Dublin
The visiting day is an estimate.. We went for a takeaway, and were pleasantly surprised by the decor of the place. The bar upstairs, seemed very nice, and the place overall gave a very good first impression. We ordered to mains to go, and asked one Naan bread as a side. We were very disappointed, when we got home, and realized, there were no other sides with the meals. We had 2 times the "sauce" (one lamb and one chicken), but only one Naan bread to share on the side. We could not really understand, why we were not even asked, if that really is all we want. Food itself was ok, but a bit expensive. It is a new place, so hopefully they will pick up with the service..
58 Grand Canal Street, Dublin 4, City Centre South, Dublin
We found this place quite soon, after we moved to Ballsbridge. It is very small, so you may want to book a table in advance, even though they seem to be very good in squeezing people in. It is always busy, but you never need to wait for service. Starters, mains, and desserts, are all delicious, but we have found our favorites: Mussels and Antipasta plate, Hero and Quattro Formaggi are simply amazing, and finally Homemade Tiramisu is just to die for. This is clearly our favorite restaurant in Dublin, and we will keep on going back.
174 Pembroke Road, Ballsbridge, Ballsbridge, Dublin
We pick takeaway from here regularly. The food is delicious, and you get free poppadoms and dips with your takeaway. Everything we have tried, has been very good, indeed. Very good value for money, and we will surely eat in, one day, too. I can recommend this restaurant to anyone, who is looking for authentic Indian food.
